Read Proverbs Chapter 2

James 4

From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?

But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:

14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

16 But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.

17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

  1. James 4:5
Do you think the Scriptures have no meaning? They say that God is passionate that the spirit he has placed within us should be faithful to him.

The scripture is God’s word which we should be faithful to read and obey. We should hide his word in our hearts. Thank you God for your word and faithfulness.

  2. “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.”
    ‭‭James‬ ‭4:17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

As being a Christian is to be like Christ. We no longer think as the ways of the world, we now have the mind of Christ as we daily put on Christ. Meaning that daily we crucify our flesh and the lusts of it. (Romans 12:13.
As a Christian I must stop turning a blind eye, ignoring what is going on around me. I must speak truth at all times. My voice and my way of living must be louder than the voices of this world.
… When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required.”
    ‭‭Luke‬ ‭12:48‬ ‭NLT‬‬

  3. 14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

In the backdrop of eternity life is short. Even though as we live it may seem like many things take a long time to accomplish, what we do in this life has eternal consequences.

  4. 11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

The biggest challenge that the church has is dealing with its own issues. There is more scripture regarding how people of faith should treat each other then on a lot of other topics. The issue is still rampant today unfortunately. We are told to greet one another and holiness and to be kind to one another, we have been called to be the body of Christ and there’s nothing more damaging then being harmful from within.

  5. Verses 7-8 ERV says “So give yourselves to God. Stand against the devil, and he will run away from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. You are sinners, so clean sin out of your lives.[c] You are trying to follow God and the world at the same time. Make your thinking pure.” There comes a time when you have to grow up and make a mature decision. Verse 17 ERV says “If you fail to do what you know is right, you are sinning.” Joshua 24:15 ERV says “But maybe you don’t want to serve the Lord. You must choose for yourselves today. Today you must decide who you will serve. Will you serve the gods that your ancestors worshiped when they lived on the other side of the Euphrates River? Or will you serve the gods of the Amorites who lived in this land? You must choose for yourselves. But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.” Be GREATER and choose wisely. Our Proverb for today says in verses 20-22 ERV “Wisdom will help you follow the example of good people and stay on the right path. Honest people will live in the land, and those who do right will remain there. But the wicked will be forced to leave. Those who lie and cheat will be thrown out of the land.”

  6. 6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

We must humble ourselves in real close to God and ask him to purify our hearts that we may come boldly before him.

  7. 4 NKJV “Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.”
    ‭‭
When you turn away from GOD you begin to view sin as acceptable. You get temporary pleasure from it that leads to death. Why true to temporary pleasures when you can have JESUS?

  8. 6. But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

    10. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

When we exalt ourselves, it doesn’t end well; but when we humble ourselves, God will give us grace.

    Matthew 23:12
And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

  9. 14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

We decide we are doing this or going there…when scripture says we should be saying “if the Lord will” we will go or do. Is humbling ourselves to him when we submit in this way.

  10. I love POFW LIVE JESUS GIVE JESUS2 GREATER!
17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. Thank you Jesus for your word!

  11. ‘Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. ‘

    James 4:11
There’s only one judge, and it aint any of us. Jesus is the only judge seated high upon the throne. From chapter to chapter James tells us how powerful the tongue is then tells us not to speak evil against one another. Love your neighbor as you would yourself its simple as that. Watch your tongue and don’t let your flesh get the best of you. I got one for ya, when you feel yourself about to say something bad just say I bless this person in Jesus name.

  12. “Don’t speak evil against each other, dear brothers and sisters. If you criticize and judge each other, then you are criticizing and judging God’s law. But your job is to obey the law, not to judge whether it applies to you. God alone, who gave the law, is the Judge. He alone has the power to save or to destroy. So what right do you have to judge your neighbor?”
    ‭‭James‬ ‭4:11-12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

There’s power in our tongue. Our words can give life or death. It can cause unity or division. We must speak life, peace and unity.

  13. The Kingdom of God is GREATER!

Powerful! This is the soul reason for fighting and bickering. Pride. If we are going to get along in this crazy world we must humble ourselves and get the favor of the Lord in our corner!

  14. This chapter in James is very instructive about what we as Christian’s should and should not do. Read it and apply it to our lives

  15. This chapter of James tells us how we should and should not be as Christians. Let us take heed to the words in James.

  16. 2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

We have to have a pure heart and our motives have to be good, we cannot ask God to give us something when we are not right in our walk with God.

  17. GREATER
    DANGEROUS FRIENDSHIP

4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

JESUS considers it a violation of covenant with HIM to be “friends” with the world.

    AMP
4 You adulteresses [disloyal sinners—flirting with the world and breaking your vow to God]! Do you not know that being the world’s friend [that is, loving the things of the world] is being God’s enemy? So whoever chooses to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

Loving the things of the world is friendship with the world. When we prefer to have things, do things, or be loyal to things of this world (life) instead of, greater than things of JESUS and HIS Kingdom. JESUS considers those attitudes and actions to be disloyal sin toward HIM.

We should naturally demonstrate a longing for, desire for and hunger for the things of JESUS eternal Kingdom than the temporal things of this life.

  18. James 4: 4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity of God
Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
Leaving God for the Temporary Pleasure, for a friendship with Jesus!
This world is not our Home!
Jesus is Our Best Friend that You will ever have.

  19. ESV – 4 You adulterous people![c] Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

The translation here states that if you are a friend of the world – given to worldly desires and worldy ways, you are an adulterous person. Spiritual adultery is far worse than fleshly adultery. Although sin is sin, one is sinning against the physical body, but the other is sinning again the soul.

God wants our desires and passions to be towards Him. He wants us to love Him first. He wants us to give Him our first fruits in everything.

    1 John 2:15
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

  20. 17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
    ***************
We often make up excuses for things we do or say that we know is wrong, but the flesh wants it. Sometimes it is a battle. A war between good and evil. I know that I should use kind words instead of hateful remarks. I know that I should attend church instead of going out with friends. I know I should pay my tithes, but I need it for something else, I know that a little white lie is a lie, I know, I know. It is sin when we reject doing good, even if what we think isn’t really bad, it can be sin if not done in the right spirit. We must stay in God’s will and remember the 10 Commandments. # 1 Love thy God with all thy heart. My thoughts as well can be sin if not done with the Spirit of God. Love thy neighbor as thy self. Yes, indeed sin can creep in without you even knowing it, be on guard of you thoughts, words, and actions. For who can be against us when God is with us. Praise the Lord.

  21. The Living bible
    vs-4
You are like an unfaithful wife who loves her husband’s enemies. Don’t you realize that making friends with God’s enemies -that evil pleasures of the world -makes you a enemy of God. I say again, that if your aim is to enjoy the evil pleasures of the unsaved world , you cannot also be a friend of God.

James looks at more problems for the person committed to living a life of faith. Faith’s lifestyle demands that the believer submit to God, despite the presence of warped desires (coming from our flesh) the world and the devil. The world is that complex interweaving of sinful desires that shapes the society of lost humanity. When we surrender to flesh we choose to become friends of the world and are unfaithful to God.

  22. James 4:6-10 (ESV)
    6) But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.
    7) Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
    8) Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, ye double-minded.
    9) Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.
    10) Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.

    “MORE Of GOD’S GRACE”
How do we receive “MORE Of GOD’s GRACE” in our life? by getting rid of the Pride in our life and Humbling ourselves before Him.
How do we Humble ourselves before God? by Submitting ourselves to Him; Resisting the devil; Drawing near to Him; Cleansing our hands and Purifying our hearts; and through Repentance (mourning and weeping).
When we Humble ourselves before God, He will exalt us.

    MORE Of GOD’s GRACE
    GREATER GRACE

  23. 6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded

It would be a sad thing to think that God was working against us because of our pride. When we submit to God, we are humbling ourselves and he is giving us grace. Resisting the devil and drawing nigh to God puts us close to God and far from the devil. Leaving sin behind and pursuing righteousness leads us to God.

  24. 6 But he giveth more grace.

9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

    GOD IS GOOD!
    All The Time!
    Hallelujah!
    Thank You Jesus!

  25. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Submission and resistance are two important weapons in a believers life. Submission offers us the backing of God. Resistance offers us power to speak to the mountain and it flee. Both require action on our part.

  26. 6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

God does not approve of a proud spirit. He is a God that likes a humble heart. If we want to see his my power working in us, we must have a humble spirit. Our God is still an awesome God.

  27. afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

  28. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

  29. 15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

God should be consulted in all our plans, and they should be made in His will. We should live and speak in the realization that our destinies are in His control. We should say, “ if the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.” Thus, in the book of Acts, we find the Apostle Paul saying, “ I will return again to you, God willing” ( 18:21), and in 1 Corinthians 4:19 he wrote, I will come to you shortly, if the Lord wills,”

    A.L.M.A.S.

  30. 9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

A simple yet important lesson that needs to be learned by so many, “. . . Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, . . .” So many times we want to demand of God certain thing see think we deserve. We don’t deserve a thing from Him! He has supplied and done so much for us, . . . Let us humble ourselves. Let us humble every part of ourselves to Him.

11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

    Another very important lesson.

  31. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

  32. 15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

If the Lord will. We are taught to speak in a manner that will acknowledge God in all we do. If the Lord wills. We are not the ones in control of it all. Surrendering your life to God is not that you will loose out on all things of life. On the contrary we will have life and have it more abundantly.

  33. Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” Otherwise you are boasting about your own pretentious plans, and all such boasting is evil.
    James 4:13‭-‬16 NLT

    https://bible.com/bible/116/jas.4.13-16.NLT

Yes! A great reminder we must put the LORD’S Will before our own plans. My business growth is a testament to allowing God to direct the course of my company!! I cannot say enough about the importance of this !!!

  34. 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Too often people will claim the devil is messing with them all the time. Two things: don’t give the devil so much credit and second, are you submitted and able to resist the devil? If we aren’t submitted, we aren’t covered. If we aren’t covered, we become vulnerable.

Stay submitted and bless the Lord for the greater things He is doing in your life!

  35. “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.”
    ‭‭James‬ ‭4:17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

God has given us wisdom, knowledge, and understanding we cannot ignore. Our convictions are our own and we must abide but what God has said.
