Acts 16

Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek:

Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.

Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek.

And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem.

And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.

Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia,

After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.

And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas.

And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.

10 And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.

11 Therefore loosing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis;

12 And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days.

13 And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.

14 And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.

15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.

16 And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:

17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.

18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.

19 And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers,

20 And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,

21 And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans.

22 And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.

23 And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:

24 Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.

25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.

26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.

27 And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.

28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.

29 Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,

30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.

33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.

34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.

35 And when it was day, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, Let those men go.

36 And the keeper of the prison told this saying to Paul, The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore depart, and go in peace.

37 But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans, and have cast us into prison; and now do they thrust us out privily? nay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out.

38 And the serjeants told these words unto the magistrates: and they feared, when they heard that they were Romans.

39 And they came and besought them, and brought them out, and desired them to depart out of the city.

40 And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.

  1. 25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.

The midnight hour found Paul and Silas praying and singing. Their joy was completely independent of all their singing was high in heaven above.
Any man can sing when the prison doors are open, and he is set free. The Christian soul sings in prison. I think that Paul would probably have sung a solo had I been Silas but I nevertheless see the glory and grandeur of the Spirit that rises superior to all the things of difficulty and limitation.

  2. “And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers,”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭16:19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

These masters wanted nothing to do Paul and Silas. These men preferred to worship the ‘money god’ or as they would say in Spanish la ‘santa muérete ‘ than serving The true living GOD.
We will come across people like this in outreach or wherever we go. Because they are so blinded and caught up in tradition that they know not what they worship.
As Christians being full of the Holy Ghost we must be like Paul and Silas and continue to preach the truth.

“Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece. And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart. And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them. And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where.”
    ‭‭Luke‬ ‭9:1-6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  3. [5] So the churches were strengthened in their faith and grew larger every day.

I see revival and harvest building that is greater than anything I have ever seen coming to the POFW

[23]They were severely beaten, and then they were thrown into prison. The jailer was ordered to make sure they didn’t escape.
[24]So the jailer put them into the inner dungeon and clamped their feet in the stocks.
[25]Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening.

Through the trials of life and in good times sing praise, pray and thank God. He will bring you through.

    Isaiah 43:2
When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.

    Isaiah 61:3
To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair.
In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the lord has planted for his own glory.

  4. 4 And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem.

5 And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.

Likewise on Sunday our Pastor gave examples of government in our home. Thusly we see here that the Church has order just as creation has order, in which we have procedures to our services. Having goals is a motivator to wittness, which we see in verse 5 the Church grew every day with new believers.

  5. 25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.

26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.

    My Praise Is Greater
As Pastor had preached unto us this message Sunday morning When we praise Jesus He will knock down the problem that has arisen in our life. Our Praise Is Greater than any problem of this world!
    Hallelujah!
    Thank You Jesus!

  6. 25. And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.

    26. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.

Praise brings freedom – not only for ourselves, but often for those around us, as well.

    Freedom reigns in this place
    Showers of mercy and grace
    Falling on EVERY face
    There is freedom
    – Jesus Culture

  7. Verses 13-14 MSG “On the Sabbath, we left the city and went down along the river where we had heard there was to be a prayer meeting. We took our place with the women who had gathered there and talked with them. One woman, Lydia, was from Thyatira and a dealer in expensive textiles, known to be a God-fearing woman. As she listened with intensity to what was being said, the Master gave her a trusting heart—and she believed!” What has the Master given you? Romans 11:29 AMP says “For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable [for He does not withdraw what He has given, nor does He change His mind about those to whom He gives His grace or to whom He sends His call].” 2 Peter 1:3-4 MSG “Everything that goes into a life of pleasing God has been miraculously given to us by getting to know, personally and intimately, the One who invited us to God. The best invitation we ever received! We were also given absolutely terrific promises to pass on to you—your tickets to participation in the life of God after you turned your back on a world corrupted by lust.” Be GREATER!

  8. Acts 16: 14-15 And a certain women named Lydia a seller of purple of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us, whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.
    (15) And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us,saying, if ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.
It was her worship and prayer that the Lord heard and open her ears and heart so that she got baptized.
She wanted her household to be saved.
Lord I pray that you would open up ears, hearts, and minds of the Hurting people so that can receive your Word of Truth in Jesus name.

  9. So the churches were strengthened in their faith and grew larger every day.
Acts of the Apostles 16:5 NLT

One of the most encouraging things to read as I woke up this morning, is that the churches, plural form, or strengthened in their faith and grew larger every day. Church growth is 100% biblical. Are Faith needs to continue to increase and God will continue to add to us

  10. So the jailer put them into the inner dungeon and clamped their feet in the stocks. Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening. Suddenly, there was a massive earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations. All the doors immediately flew open, and the chains of every prisoner fell off!

The jailer called for lights and ran to the dungeon and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. Then he brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
Acts of the Apostles 16:24‭-‬26‭, ‬29‭-‬30 NLT

    https://bible.com/bible/116/act.16.24-30.NLT

Paul and Silas were witnessing to the jailer before they said a word to him, merely by their attitude toward their circumstance. The jailer could see they were not aggressive and how they praised and sang to God.
What people see when they first meet and observe will sometimes be the ticket to whether or not they will be open to the hope that lives within us!

  11. 25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.
26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed

It doesn’t matter the predicament you may find yourself in, when you have a relationship with JESUS , His praises should continually be in your mouth. Praise the LORD at all times. You never know who is listening.

  12. “Then coming to the borders of Mysia, they headed north for the province of Bithynia, but again the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them to go there.”
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭16:7‬ ‭NLT‬‬

There is protection in being set apart. We should allow the boundaries placed in our life to comfort us in knowing, that the Holy Ghost in us has us separated and set apart for a Purpose.

  13. Greater
The Leading Of The Holy Ghost

v6 Paul’s team ministered in Galatia, but the Holy Ghost , forbade them to travel into Asia at the time.

The Holy Ghost will lead us , and comfort us.
It’s the Lord living inside of us.

  14. 14 and a certain woman named Lydia’s seller of people of the city of tyatira which worship God heard us and the Lord opened her understanding.
    — it takes one person, one person to be in tune with God.
One person to want to serve the Lord and live for him… one person who would desired the Lord and his ways..
    We know the rest… 🙌
God is merciful, and he is looking those who worship Him

  15. I love POFW LIVE JESUS GIVE JESUS2 GREATER! 26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed. Only God can dothis!

  16. 28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.

Paul and Silas prayed and the gates were open but they did could have left but they had prayed their answer was to stay and witness to the guards so that they could witness to them about Jesus salvation be saved not only themselves but also their families.

  17. 32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.

Paul’s setback was an opportunity for God to step in and do the miraculous. When God is for us who can stand against us? We may feel wrongly persecuted but if we keep the faith in the darkest of times, God will show up and it won’t be just for us-it will also be for others with us to be saved.

  18. 25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.
26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.

Not only did their praise get themselves out, but the praise of two men loosed the bands of EVERY prisoner in that place. Can you imagine the breakthrough and liberty we could experience at the POFW if we got beside ourselves in praise?! We break ourselves free AND break the bondage of captives around us. Every soul we call upon during praise, every backslider we know, every soul even surrounding us hearing our praise like the prisoners that night! Souls can be set free when we praise!

  19. ‘The jailer got a torch and ran inside. Badly shaken, he collapsed in front of Paul and Silas. He led them out of the jail and asked, “Sirs, what do I have to do to be saved, to really live?” They said, “Put your entire trust in the Master Jesus. Then you’ll live as you were meant to live—and everyone in your house included!”
    Acts 16:29-31

I believe we start out this way, but we reach a certain level of trust in Jesus and stop right there. The key to radical revival is to have radical faith and to be radical in every single way. Jesus wants to continue doing something mighty in your life but you gotta trust in him just as much as you did when you first started trusting in him.

  20. ESV 10 And when Paul[c] had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go on into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them

14 One who heard us was a woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple goods, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was said by Paul. 15 And after she was baptized, and her household as well, she urged us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay.” And she prevailed upon us.

Paul was given a vision of another place to go preach, and Lydia and her family were saved. Who will be saved because Jesus directs us to them? Had Paul not obeyed the vision, maybe she and her household would have never found truth. I believe there are people praying that are positioned all over this region, just waiting on someone to show them the truth. We must be attentive to what the Spirit of God is telling us, and then obedient to follow.

    Mark 4:9
And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

  21. The Kingdom of God is GREATER
6 Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia

I reckon there is a time a place for everything. The Holy Ghost forbade them from preaching the Word of God in this area at this time. We outta listen more carefully to the Spirit in order to avoid untimely issues

  22. 5 And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.
    *****************
One example of a church being established in faith, is the POFW. Even though we weren’t apart of the growth and building of a larger church. We are part of the increase. By faith this church has grown from a small group on Silver Saddle to a fairly large one on WestPoint. With this vision “I see revival and harvest building that is greater than anything I have ever seen coming to the POFW” this church will be greater and we will see a revival and we will increase. Our pastor had a vision and we are all apart of it. Praise God for a revival of Fort Worth. Praise God for a revival at POFW.

  23. GREATER
    LEADERSHIP

    MSG
4-5 As they traveled from town to town, they presented the simple guidelines the Jerusalem apostles and leaders had come up with. That turned out to be most helpful. Day after day the congregations became stronger in faith and larger in size.

    BOOM!

Here we have it, eternal evidence that Apostolic Leadership is about making know the GOSPEL and the Guidelines of the Apostolic Church. Some call it a cult, some call it man made rules, (HELLO) some call it strict, some call it overreach.

    BUT

The BIBLE calls it LEADERSHIP. The guidelines of the church turned out to bemost helpful, faith building and GREATER for the Church.

    KJV
4 And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem.
5 And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.

Sounds like REVIVAL and HARVEST to me. I thank JESUS for the teaching of the WORD of GOD and the Guidelines presented by the Apostolic Pentecostal Church. JESUS blesses it, honors it and increases it. As we are disciplined, we are discipled.

I pray that we embrace our church guidelines decided by the Leaders of the Church for the GREATER outcome of the Gospel of JESUS.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iLive
    iGive
    iReap
    iGo
    iBlessYouInTheNameOfTheLordJESUS
iSee a REVIVAL and HARVEST building that is GREATER than anything I have ever seen coming to The POFW.

  24. 22 And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes and commanded to beat them.

23 And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:

Sometimes Christians are treated unfairly. Paul and Silas were Roman citizens, and it was not lawful to beat them being Un condemned. But they did it anyway. The wonderful result of them being jailed was that the jailer and his family were saved. Good and bad things can happen at the same time.

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

  25. “And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭16:25‬ ‭KJV‬‬

No matter how dark the situation maybe we must pray and sing praises onto God. This may be your midnight but just push through. This darkness is Temporary and not permanent.

“Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:”
    ‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭1:6-8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  26. The Living bible
    vs-(30-31)
He brought them out and begged them, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
They replied, Believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, and your entire household.

The jailers question reflects some knowledge of Paul and his preaching, not at all unlikely in a city the size of Philippi. Paul’s response one of the simplest, BELIEVE in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved.

  27. Acts 16:4-5 (MSG)
“As they traveled from town to town, they presented the simple guidelines the Jerusalem apostles and leaders had come up with. That turned out to be most helpful. Day after day the congregation became stronger in faith and larger in size.”

When the church obeys and lives by the guidelines (instructions, directions, rules, requirements, principles, standards, etc…) set up by Pastor, the Ministers, and Head Leaders, It will be Stronger in Faith, and It will Grow – become larger in size.

    GREATER Obedience
    GREATER Faith
    GREATER Growth

  28. 16 And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:

As the people of God, we must stay prayed up. We cannot afford not to pray. The enemy would love us to not do the will of God. God’s will is the only way to make it to heaven.

  29. 5 And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.

Growth is found in our faith. The growth of the church and our individual growth is founded upon our faith or the lack there of. It is vital for our lives to grow and exercise our faith that we may grow in God numerically and spiritually.

  30. 9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.

We have to pray that the Holy Spirit speaks to us where is the need and the people to be anxious to hear the Word. In Jesus name!

  31. And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.

  32. 17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.
18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.

Discernment is necessary to know who and what is not of GOD, this woman was saying the truth so what did he see or hear that grieved him………

  33. 17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.

When people lie on you, they lie on God.

  34. 3 Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek.

Some things we do, open doors, and some close doors. We cannot help what life deals us, or how others look at us, but we can do our best to eliminate any reasons that they might have to put walls up towards us.

  35. 25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.
26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.

We know that our prayers and our praises work to free us, but It’s our praise and prayers that will free those around us too.

  36. 26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.
27 And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.

God will supply a way when there is no way. No matter how crazy or impossible it may seem. He will provide.

  37. And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:

24 Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.

25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.

26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.

Let nothing steal your praise. There earth shaking miracle happens when in our darkest hours we keep our praise and our prayers going where the world around you can hear you. In the midst of your trouble or trail praise Him. In the darkest of times pray to Him. The miracle is in the shaking. It will shake your world and of those around you. And God will get the glory.

  38. 25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.
