5And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.

6And Seth lived an hundred and five years, and begat Enos:

7And Seth lived after he begat Enos eight hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters:

8And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died.

9And Enos lived ninety years, and begat Cainan:

10And Enos lived after he begat Cainan eight hundred and fifteen years, and begat sons and daughters:

11And all the days of Enos were nine hundred and five years: and he died.

12And Cainan lived seventy years and begat Mahalaleel:

13And Cainan lived after he begat Mahalaleel eight hundred and forty years, and begat sons and daughters:

14And all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years: and he died.

15And Mahalaleel lived sixty and five years, and begat Jared:

16And Mahalaleel lived after he begat Jared eight hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters:

17And all the days of Mahalaleel were eight hundred ninety and five years: and he died.

18And Jared lived an hundred sixty and two years, and he begat Enoch:

19And Jared lived after he begat Enoch eight hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:

20And all the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty and two years: and he died.

21And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah:

22And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:

23And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:

24And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

25And Methuselah lived an hundred eighty and seven years, and begat Lamech.

26And Methuselah lived after he begat Lamech seven hundred eighty and two years, and begat sons and daughters:

27And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died.

28And Lamech lived an hundred eighty and two years, and begat a son:

29And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed.

30And Lamech lived after he begat Noah five hundred ninety and five years, and begat sons and daughters:

31And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy and seven years: and he died.

  1. God called Adam and Eve; Adam. Possibly where the tradition of the wife taking the man’s name in marriage was started (by God himself ordaining marriage and family).

  2. V.24 And Enoch walked with GOD: and he was not; for GOD took him. What a beautiful relationship between God and Enoch, that Enoch found favor with GOD!!!!

  3. Out of all the generations listed her, Enoch is the only one mentioned that walked with God. What significant thing are we doing for the Kingdom of God that in the memoirs of heaven is going to be written that we walked with God or did such and such for God that stands out against everyone else?

  4. THE SON OF COMFORT

29 And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed.

NOAH means rest. It is obvious that GOD as all knowing creator and savior that he had already initiated the plans to drown all of mankind for their sinful lifestyle. However bound by his WORD which was in the beginning; he must make a way of escape for humanity, an opportunity to be saved from the destruction and spared from death.

Noah’s faithful commitment and obedience to the word of GOD provided a comfort first and foremost to his family, secondly to his peers; though they may have ridiculed Noah they had to respect his commitment and obedience, thirdly the animals found comfort in Noah’s obedience and commitment.

We today should take comfort in Noah in the fact that Noah’s obedience provided a way of saving those that would believe; in like manner the voice of a Preacher of righteousness today.

Do not be deceived in these last days; God destroyed everyone that did not obey Noah and we have had over 2000 years warning that again he will destroy all who obey not the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

    Seek the LORD today!

  5. As we daily walk with God the closer we become, and our faith grows stronger.
We stand on HIS promise, ” Because I live, ye shall live also” John 14:19
So thankful that GOD intervened , and save us from death .
As HE did for Enoch and Noah.

  6. In chapters 2 and 5 of Genesis God establishes the order of marriage. Genesis 2:20-22 there was no help meet for Adam so God caused Adam to sleep and took a rib from Adam and made woman.

Genesis 5:2 “Man and female created he them…”

God never intended for man to change the order of things. In the NT Paul speaks to the Romans in the first chapter of Romans about men being unrighteous, ungodly, having vain imaginations, and in Romans 1:24 “Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves.” In verse 25 it talks about who changed the truth of God into a lie, it sure wasn’t God it was the people who where so far into sin. We have scriptures in the OT and NT that marriage is between a man and woman, NOT any other way!

  7. We take it as an exemplary life to live for the lord 25 or 30 years, it is agreat accomplishment but imagine, walking with God for 365 years. 365 days of a year is hard enough for some people. I belive that the years of his life, reflect the days of the year to us showing, that we should walk with God every day of every year of our life.

  8. The first five names is God’s plan for mankind.

ADAM “father” (by virtue of being the first) The Father
SETH “an appointed substitute” (Genesis 4:25) appointed a substitute
ENOSH “mortal; subject to death” to suffer death
KENAN “to buy back or redeem” to redeem (man).
MAHALALEL “Hallelujah!” or praise God Praise God!

The father sent an appointed substitute to suffer death to redeem man. Hallelujah!

The next five names concern the finality of God’s plan.

JARED “descendents; generations” Generations from now
ENOCH “dedicated to the Lord” translated to heaven, did not die
METHUSELAH “man of the dart; destruction” tribulation & wrath of God
LAMECH “the whip; discipline” Kingdom of God on earth
NOAH “rest; God’s rest” New heaven & new earth

Going down through generations (or generations later) there will be those who are dedicated to the Lord, and they, like Enoch, will not see death but rather be translated by God directly to heaven. Then comes the judgment and destruction of the wicked as God pours out his wrath on the earth. Immediately thereafter the Kingdom of God is set up on the earth as Jesus Christ returns with his translated ones. During that time Christ will rule the world “with an iron rod,” and he will, for example, shut off rain from those nations who refuse to obey his leadership. It will be a time of discipline in which the whole world will be required to learn the things of God. After a 1000-year reign of Christ on the earth and as Satan is loosed from the bottomless pit, a final rebellion develops. At that time Christ will completely destroy his enemies and then God will make a New Heaven and a New Earth which will be world without end and finally we enter into God’s rest.

Even in lists of names there is great truth to be found!

  9. 1-2 This is the family tree of the human race: When God created the human race, he made it godlike, with a nature akin to God. He created both male and female and blessed them, the whole human race. MSG

    WE ARE BLESSED!

  10. v1 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him.

C3v5 the serpent said to Eve: For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.

Man was already the likeness of God!
How smooth Satan was with his words. He made Eve think she was missing something. Yet, in actuality, it was already hers.

  11. 24And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

What an example of a deeply commited relationship with God. The relationship that they shared caused God to desire for Enoch to be with Him on another level.

  12. What an epitaph: Walked with God.

If that is all we are remembered for than we have been the light, as commanded. Be the light!

  13. 22And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:

23And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:

24And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

    What a relationship, what a testimony !!!!

  14. Okay, why not?

    Concerning Enoch.

    Title: WALK IT OUT

Body: We know that Enoch walked with God and… Was Not For God Took Him. No record of the hardships, no record of the accomplishments of Enoch other than bearing a son. No accolades, no certificates, no medical history, no known allergies, no college transcripts… Just A Testimony! Enoch knew how to WALK! He didn’t sit down on God. He didn’t lay down at times of hardship. He didn’t stand still… Enoch understood this concept.

Sometimes you just have to WALK IT OUT! When life happens, and believe me if “life,” has happened in my short 24 years of life on earth, it happened in Enoch’s 365 years.

Don’t quit, don’t slow down, don’t sit down, don’t lay down… Just Walk It Out!

  15. Vs1This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;
2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.

God created mankind in His image. Originally just man, however woman was taken from adams rib. God named them adam. Woman didn’t receive a separate name till after the exile of the garden and the beginning of motherhood when adam called her eve.

I believe marriage between man and woman is a holy union before God, because its bringing both male and female back to one flesh as closely as the original creation before sin as can be. In the likeness of Him.

  16. V2 “Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.”

Another reason to BE the bride of Christ and receive the name of Jesus! Eternity will prove to every last soul that it’s not enough to be simply called “saved”, we must *be* saved.

Acts 4:12 “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

Revelation 3:12 “Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.”

Rev 22:1-5 “1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:

4 And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.

5 And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.”

    No other name but Jesus!

  17. Why are genealogies included in the Bible? The Hebrews passed on their beliefs through oral tradition. For many years in many places, writing was primitive or nonexistence. Stories were told to children who passed them on to their children. Genealogies gave a skeptical outline that helped people remember the stories. For centuries these genealogies were added to and passed down from family to family. Even more important than preserving family tradition, genealogies were included to confirm the Bible’s promise that the coming Messiah, Jesus Christ, would be born into the line of Abraham. Genealogies point out that people are important to God as individuals. Therefore God refers to people by name, mentioning their life span and descendants. The next time we feel overwhelmed in a vast crowd, we need to remember that the focus of God’s attention and love is on the individual and on us.

  18. This chapter is enlightening. We see where Adam all the way Noah had hundreds of years, were we are lucky if we make it to 100. We all need to look at where we are today (age) and subtract from 100. Whatever time is remaining is our choice to either Be-Church and serve God, or Be-Self and serve satan. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  19. 24And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

dont know that a whole lot more could be said about his life, other than WOW.
