Genesis 24
1 And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things.
2 And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh:
3 And I will make thee swear by the Lord, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell:
4 But thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac.
5 And the servant said unto him, Peradventure the woman will not be willing to follow me unto this land: must I needs bring thy son again unto the land from whence thou camest?
6 And Abraham said unto him, Beware thou that thou bring not my son thither again.
7 The Lord God of heaven, which took me from my father’s house, and from the land of my kindred, and which spake unto me, and that sware unto me, saying, Unto thy seed will I give this land; he shall send his angel before thee, and thou shalt take a wife unto my son from thence.
8 And if the woman will not be willing to follow thee, then thou shalt be clear from this my oath: only bring not my son thither again.
9 And the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and sware to him concerning that matter.
10 And the servant took ten camels of the camels of his master, and departed; for all the goods of his master were in his hand: and he arose, and went to Mesopotamia, unto the city of Nahor.
11 And he made his camels to kneel down without the city by a well of water at the time of the evening, even the time that women go out to draw water.
12 And he said O Lord God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and shew kindness unto my master Abraham.
13 Behold, I stand here by the well of water; and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water:
14 And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master.
15 And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.
16 And the damsel was very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her: and she went down to the well, and filled her pitcher, and came up.
17 And the servant ran to meet her, and said, Let me, I pray thee, drink a little water of thy pitcher.
18 And she said, Drink, my lord: and she hasted, and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink.
19 And when she had done giving him drink, she said, I will draw water for thy camels also, until they have done drinking.
20 And she hasted, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again unto the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels.
21 And the man wondering at her held his peace, to wit whether the Lord had made his journey prosperous or not.
22 And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden earring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold;
23 And said, Whose daughter art thou? tell me, I pray thee: is there room in thy father’s house for us to lodge in?
24 And she said unto him, I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, which she bare unto Nahor.
25 She said moreover unto him, We have both straw and provender enough, and room to lodge in.
26 And the man bowed down his head, and worshipped the Lord.
27 And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of my master Abraham, who hath not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth: I being in the way, the Lord led me to the house of my master’s brethren.
28 And the damsel ran, and told them of her mother’s house these things.
29 And Rebekah had a brother, and his name was Laban: and Laban ran out unto the man, unto the well.
30 And it came to pass, when he saw the earring and bracelets upon his sister’s hands, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister, saying, Thus spake the man unto me; that he came unto the man; and, behold, he stood by the camels at the well.
31 And he said, Come in, thou blessed of the Lord; wherefore standest thou without? for I have prepared the house, and room for the camels.
32 And the man came into the house: and he ungirded his camels, and gave straw and provender for the camels, and water to wash his feet, and the men’s feet that were with him.
33 And there was set meat before him to eat: but he said, I will not eat, until I have told mine errand. And he said, Speak on.
34 And he said, I am Abraham’s servant.
35 And the Lord hath blessed my master greatly; and he is become great: and he hath given him flocks, and herds, and silver, and gold, and menservants, and maidservants, and camels, and asses.
36 And Sarah my master’s wife bare a son to my master when she was old: and unto him hath he given all that he hath.
37 And my master made me swear, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife to my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell:
38 But thou shalt go unto my father’s house, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son.
39 And I said unto my master, Peradventure the woman will not follow me.
40 And he said unto me, The Lord, before whom I walk, will send his angel with thee, and prosper thy way; and thou shalt take a wife for my son of my kindred, and of my father’s house:
41 Then shalt thou be clear from this my oath, when thou comest to my kindred; and if they give not thee one, thou shalt be clear from my oath.
42 And I came this day unto the well, and said, O Lord God of my master Abraham, if now thou do prosper my way which I go:
43 Behold, I stand by the well of water; and it shall come to pass, that when the virgin cometh forth to draw water, and I say to her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water of thy pitcher to drink;
44 And she say to me, Both drink thou, and I will also draw for thy camels: let the same be the woman whom the Lord hath appointed out for my master’s son.
45 And before I had done speaking in mine heart, behold, Rebekah came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she went down unto the well, and drew water: and I said unto her, Let me drink, I pray thee.
46 And she made haste, and let down her pitcher from her shoulder, and said, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: so I drank, and she made the camels drink also.
47 And I asked her, and said, Whose daughter art thou? And she said, the daughter of Bethuel, Nahor’s son, whom Milcah bare unto him: and I put the earring upon her face, and the bracelets upon her hands.
48 And I bowed down my head, and worshipped the Lord, and blessed the Lord God of my master Abraham, which had led me in the right way to take my master’s brother’s daughter unto his son.
49 And now if ye will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me: and if not, tell me; that I may turn to the right hand, or to the left.
50 Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, The thing proceedeth from the Lord: we cannot speak unto thee bad or good.
51 Behold, Rebekah is before thee, take her, and go, and let her be thy master’s son’s wife, as the Lord hath spoken.
52 And it came to pass, that, when Abraham’s servant heard their words, he worshipped the Lord, bowing himself to the earth.
53 And the servant brought forth jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment, and gave them to Rebekah: he gave also to her brother and to her mother precious things.
54 And they did eat and drink, he and the men that were with him, and tarried all night; and they rose up in the morning, and he said, Send me away unto my master.
55 And her brother and her mother said, Let the damsel abide with us a few days, at the least ten; after that she shall go.
56 And he said unto them, Hinder me not, seeing the Lord hath prospered my way; send me away that I may go to my master.
57 And they said, We will call the damsel, and enquire at her mouth.
58 And they called Rebekah, and said unto her, Wilt thou go with this man? And she said, I will go.
59 And they sent away Rebekah their sister, and her nurse, and Abraham’s servant, and his men.
60 And they blessed Rebekah, and said unto her, Thou art our sister, be thou the mother of thousands of millions, and let thy seed possess the gate of those which hate them.
61 And Rebekah arose, and her damsels, and they rode upon the camels, and followed the man: and the servant took Rebekah, and went his way.
62 And Isaac came from the way of the well Lahairoi; for he dwelt in the south country.
63 And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, the camels were coming.
64 And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she lighted off the camel.
65 For she had said unto the servant, What man is this that walketh in the field to meet us? And the servant had said, It is my master: therefore she took a vail, and covered herself.
66 And the servant told Isaac all things that he had done.
67 And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah’s tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.

A thirsty camel can drink as many as 30 gallons of water in about 13 minutes. Wow, Rebekah was a hard worker and was beautiful. Can you imagine how much water she drew for these camels. Young men, it is wise to choose a wife that will be a helpmate not an helpless mate.
10. And the servant took ten camels of the camels of his master, and departed; for all the goods of his master were in his hand: and he arose, and went to Mesopotamia, unto the city of Nahor.
We are servants of the Most High, and all His goods are available to us while we go about His business, if we would just ask.
32 And the man came into the house: and he ungirded his camels, and gave straw and provender for the camels, and water to wash his feet, and the men’s feet that were with him.
What a servant’s heart. Not only did he wash the messenger’s feet, but his men too. Often times we see people struggling to be in the spotlight, and we can tell that that is what they are pushing for because they are fighting to serve the Evangelist, but what about their family? Thank you Jesus we have the leadership that understands that a true servant serves regardless of the position of the ones they are serving.
50 Then Laban and Bethuel replied, “The Lord has obviously brought you here, so there is nothing we can say.
51 Here is Rebekah; take her and go. Yes, let her be the wife of your master’s son, as the Lord has directed.” (NLT)
Are we able to recognize the will of the Lord? Rebekah’s family did, and willfully allowed her to move onto Isaac, as did Rebekah herself agree to go. There is no denying the will of God, whether events happen unexpectedly or with expectation, we must be ready to say, “yes, I will go” just like Rebekah.
MORE SERVING
34 And he said, I am Abraham’s servant.
Pride is destructive in the fact that it destroys our future. Humbling ourselves in the sight of the LORD is the only Biblical way to be lifted by GOD. This “unnamed” servant, scholars suggest the servant is Eliezer, however he is not named.
A servant doesn’t seek recognition only fulfillment. A servant remains faithful until the ministry, opportunity or job is complete. Consider Rebekah:
19 And when she had done giving him drink, she said, I will draw water for thy camels also, until they have done drinking.
20 And she hasted, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again unto the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels.
She didn’t even know the servant, but she served him and his animals until they were full. Servants serve. Thats what servants do, not for recognition or position, not for fortune or fame, servants serve their LORD and Leader. iPray GOD give us the spirit of MORE SERVING.
Psalm 100:2 Serve the Lord with gladness:

63 And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, the camels were coming.
64 And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she lighted off the camel.
In order for Isaac and Rebekah to find each other they had to look up. The scripture states they lifted up their eyes.
Just as they looked up for their blessing, we must look up as well. Look to the Lord, allow him to supply you with all your needs!
Psalm 121:1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah’s tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.
The O T calls for God to marry within the family of faith. Paul says when people marry they must belong to the Lord. Both people must belong to the L ord if they are going to experience blessing. God intends to bring through marriage and if each is to be responsible to God’s will.
Pray for the leadership
12 And he said O Lord God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and shew kindness unto my master Abraham.
What a great concept. I cannot find the name of this servant; only his title/position; eldest servant. Here, this servant prays to God to help him with his task and bless Abraham. I have been tasked with things from our Pastor. I have prayed for God’s help to accomplish these tasks. I have not prayed in this manner before. That is not to say that I do not pray for God’s blessings, protection and guidance for our Pastor. I have never prayed in this manner before.
I believe the principle here is to ask the Lord to guide and assist me in the responsibility that was assigned to me and to bless my leadership who entrusted me with this task. The pray to shew kindness unto Abraham was not a direct prayer for Abraham but an indirect blessing on Abrahams directed task this servant is performing.

Abraham knew the importance of choosing a mate for Isaac from his homeland. Someone who would have been raised with same values, same principles, someone to love the Lord, follow His commandments, so he sent his trusted servant in search of that someone.
Singles today do not recognize or place importance on the principle of being equally yoked. It is of utmost importance that two walk together as husband and wife. Otherwise it just opens up families for confusion and turmoil.
The heart of a servant!
31 And he said, Come in, thou blessed of the Lord; wherefore standest thou without? for I have prepared the house, and room for the camels.
32 And the man came into the house: and he ungirded his camels, and gave straw and provender for the camels, and water to wash his feet, and the men’s feet that were with him.
In the house of God we must have the attitude of the willingness to serve others just as this man did. We cannot expect to impact Fort Worth without serving Fort Worth. To be a true Christian and to serve the Lord we must serve others! At POFW we are blessed with a Pastor that has a vision to serve!! Lord help us to have a heart of sevranthood, to give without complaining, and to serve wherever we are told to with gladdness!!
67 And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah’s tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.
Gen. 24:7
” The Lord God of heaven, which took me from my father’s house, and from the land of my kindred, and which spake unto me, and that sware unto me, saying, Unto thy seed will I give this land; he shall send his angel before thee, and thou shalt take a wife unto my son from thence.”
Abraham had faith, confidence, and trust in God that He would “make a way” for his son to have a wife from his country and kindred.
We must have this same kind of Faith, Confidence, and Trust in God that He will “make a way” for us in our time of need.
v58 And they called Rebekah, and said unto her, Wilt thou go with this man ?
And she said, I will go.
The same goes with GOD HE DESIRES every willing individual to come to HIM. GOD will never force HIMSELF on no one.
We have never seen the LORD, yet we heard of HIS GREATNESS.
Never having been where HE dwells, we still believe that HE waits for us and will welcome us to HIS home.
What esteem and honor will be upon JESUS CHRIST’S bride when HE comes!!!
This bride shall see her BRIDEGROOM face to face!!!!
MORE RELATIONSHIP ETERNALLY
7 The Lord God of heaven, which took me from my father’s house, and from the land of my kindred, and which spake unto me, and that sware unto me, saying, Unto thy seed will I give this land; he shall send his angel before thee, and thou shalt take a wife unto my son from thence.
This chapter tells the story of how Isaac and Rebekah met and married. It was a divine appointment from the Lord.
Genesis 24:12
And he said, O Lord God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and shew kindness unto my master Abraham.
If we are willing to listen God is speaking. He will lead us and guide us but we have to be willing to go in the direction he leads us in. The servant was submitted to Abraham and then went. His obedience to Abraham soon turned into his faith in the word of the Lord. God answered the prayer and history was made.
“The servant took ten of his master’s camels and, loaded with gifts from his master, traveled to Aram Naharaim and the city of Nahor. Outside the city, he made the camels kneel at a well. It was evening, the time when the women came to draw water. He prayed, “O GOD, God of my master Abraham, make things go smoothly this day; treat my master Abraham well! As I stand here by the spring while the young women of the town come out to get water, let the girl to whom I say, ‘Lower your jug and give me a drink,’ and who answers, ‘Drink, and let me also water your camels’—let her be the woman you have picked out for your servant Isaac. Then I’ll know that you’re working graciously behind the scenes for my master.””
Genesis 24:10-14 MSG
We forget that the Lord can very easily lead us to our answers if we will simply ask
“And before I had done speaking in mine heart, behold, Rebekah came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she went down unto the well, and drew water: and I said unto her, Let me drink, I pray thee.” The Lord (Jesus) was well aware of all, however Abraham’s servant was not. All that may be standing in the way is faith like Abraham or simply asking like his servant. Although one may not be aware of what is too come or when, one should never doubt the one true God and the way maker (Jesus) is well aware. Dear God, let me see as you see, and hear as you hear; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In GOD we trust”. “One Nation under GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”. What a mighty GOD we serve! Thank GOD for his word. GOD bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in JESUS name, Amen!
Unequally Yoked
2 And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh:
3 And I will make thee swear by the Lord, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell:
2 Corinthians 6:14
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
When I first heard 2 Cor 6:14 I was only 10 years old. All my life, when I am described something I create a picture in my mind. That summer like many other summers I went to the country to spend it with my sweet Aunt Carmen. She is a sweet and courageous Pentecostal Woman. She will walk all of us like little ducklings in a row up the mountain to go to service. That day Pastor was speaking about unequally yoked. When he said those words, the only picture I got in my mind was a huge Ox yoked with a small donkey. I laughed at loud, so at the end of the service Pastor asked me why was I laughing and if I understood what he was talking about. It did not sound like a correction, more like a curiosity. I explained to him and immediately he said. YOU GOT IT. At that time of my life I didn’t understand what I got but now I do. You see I spent many years unequally yoked to my husband and it is like that. If you marry an unbeliever or if you marry someone that is less mature than you are in the Lord that is exactly what it looks like. A big ox pushing a yoke trying so hard to get it done while the small donkey just hang in mid air or worse one animal taking one direction and the other another; the only thing you get is a constant battle. Abraham the Father of God’s Nation knew that. He did not want his son Isaac to be unequally yoked, so what is the symbol of an oath under the thigh? The thigh was considered the source of posterity in the ancient world. Or, more properly, the “loins”. The phrase “under the thigh” could be a euphemism for “on the loins.” There are two reasons why someone would take an oath in this manner: 1) Abraham had been promised a “seed” by God, and this covenantal blessing was passed on to his son and grandson. Abraham made his trusted servant swear “on the seed of Abraham” that he would find a wife for Isaac. 2) Abraham had received circumcision as the sign of the covenant. Jewish tradition also offers a different interpretation. According to Rabbi Ibn Ezra, the phrase “under the thigh” means literally that. For someone to allow his hand to be sat on was a sign of submission to authority. Abraham’s servant kept his oath. He not only obeyed Abraham’s instructions, but he also prayed to Abraham’s God for help. In the end, God miraculously provided Rebekah as the choice for Isaac’s wife. In the New Testament, believers are taught not to make oaths, but rather to let their “yes” mean “yes” and “no” mean “no” (James 5:12). That is, we should consider all our words to have the weight of an oath. Others should be able to trust our words without requiring an oath. Lord help us always keep our word, speak the truth, and may we be trusted by those around us. In Jesus Name AMEN.
45 And before I had done speaking in mine heart, behold, Rebekah came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she went down unto the well, and drew water: and I said unto her, Let me drink, I pray thee.
The Lord knows what we have need of even before we speak it. Do not hesitate to go to the Lord in prayer for anything. Wheter it be direction or blessing we can always go to Him in prayer. We have not be because we ask not.
I will answer them before they even call to me. While they are still talking about their needs, I will go ahead and answer their prayers!

The servant seemed surprised if what the Lord did. I remember my reaction to when the Lord would do something I asked for. I would worship as if I didn’t expect to be answered of him.
We tend to forget the Jesus is our Heavenly Father. What father would give his children a snake when they asked for food? I love my Father!
17 And the servant ran to meet her, and said, Let me, I pray thee, drink a little water of thy pitcher.
18 And she said, Drink, my lord: and she hasted, and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink.
19 And when she had done giving him drink, she said, I will draw water for thy camels also, until they have done drinking.
There are so many things to take from this chapter, from these verses I think a couple of them pop out. The First is that when people ask for help from us, we should not only be giving and willing to help, but also go above and beyond that and help someone else out in something that they didn’t even ask for. It goes beyond being kind and it goes to truly caring and loving someone like Jesus would.
And the second is to work hard, she didn’t need to pull up water for all his camels, but she did anyway. And watering camels takes A LOT of work because they drink many gallons of water. But she didn’t shy away from this work that she didn’t have to do and did it anyway. Don’t shy away from work, willing accept it and work hard in your life and for others.
