2 Chronicles 35
1 Moreover Josiah kept a passover unto the Lord in Jerusalem: and they killed the passover on the fourteenth day of the first month.
2 And he set the priests in their charges, and encouraged them to the service of the house of the Lord,
3 And said unto the Levites that taught all Israel, which were holy unto the Lord, Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel did build; it shall not be a burden upon your shoulders: serve now the Lord your God, and his people Israel,
4 And prepare yourselves by the houses of your fathers, after your courses, according to the writing of David king of Israel, and according to the writing of Solomon his son.
5 And stand in the holy place according to the divisions of the families of the fathers of your brethren the people, and after the division of the families of the Levites.
6 So kill the passover, and sanctify yourselves, and prepare your brethren, that they may do according to the word of the Lord by the hand of Moses.
7 And Josiah gave to the people, of the flock, lambs and kids, all for the passover offerings, for all that were present, to the number of thirty thousand, and three thousand bullocks: these were of the king’s substance.
8 And his princes gave willingly unto the people, to the priests, and to the Levites: Hilkiah and Zechariah and Jehiel, rulers of the house of God, gave unto the priests for the passover offerings two thousand and six hundred small cattle and three hundred oxen.
9 Conaniah also, and Shemaiah and Nethaneel, his brethren, and Hashabiah and Jeiel and Jozabad, chief of the Levites, gave unto the Levites for passover offerings five thousand small cattle, and five hundred oxen.
10 So the service was prepared, and the priests stood in their place, and the Levites in their courses, according to the king’s commandment.
11 And they killed the passover, and the priests sprinkled the blood from their hands, and the Levites flayed them.
12 And they removed the burnt offerings, that they might give according to the divisions of the families of the people, to offer unto the Lord, as it is written in the book of Moses. And so did they with the oxen.
13 And they roasted the passover with fire according to the ordinance: but the other holy offerings sod they in pots, and in caldrons, and in pans, and divided them speedily among all the people.
14 And afterward they made ready for themselves, and for the priests: because the priests the sons of Aaron were busied in offering of burnt offerings and the fat until night; therefore the Levites prepared for themselves, and for the priests the sons of Aaron.
15 And the singers the sons of Asaph were in their place, according to the commandment of David, and Asaph, and Heman, and Jeduthun the king’s seer; and the porters waited at every gate; they might not depart from their service; for their brethren the Levites prepared for them.
16 So all the service of the Lord was prepared the same day, to keep the passover, and to offer burnt offerings upon the altar of the Lord, according to the commandment of king Josiah.
17 And the children of Israel that were present kept the passover at that time, and the feast of unleavened bread seven days.
18 And there was no passover like to that kept in Israel from the days of Samuel the prophet; neither did all the kings of Israel keep such a passover as Josiah kept, and the priests, and the Levites, and all Judah and Israel that were present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
19 In the eighteenth year of the reign of Josiah was this passover kept.
20 After all this, when Josiah had prepared the temple, Necho king of Egypt came up to fight against Charchemish by Euphrates: and Josiah went out against him.
21 But he sent ambassadors to him, saying, What have I to do with thee, thou king of Judah? I come not against thee this day, but against the house wherewith I have war: for God commanded me to make haste: forbear thee from meddling with God, who is with me, that he destroy thee not.
22 Nevertheless Josiah would not turn his face from him, but disguised himself, that he might fight with him, and hearkened not unto the words of Necho from the mouth of God, and came to fight in the valley of Megiddo.
23 And the archers shot at king Josiah; and the king said to his servants, Have me away; for I am sore wounded.
24 His servants therefore took him out of that chariot, and put him in the second chariot that he had; and they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died, and was buried in one of the sepulchres of his fathers. And all Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah.
25 And Jeremiah lamented for Josiah: and all the singing men and the singing women spake of Josiah in their lamentations to this day, and made them an ordinance in Israel: and, behold, they are written in the lamentations.
26 Now the rest of the acts of Josiah, and his goodness, according to that which was written in the law of the Lord,
27 And his deeds, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.
The POFW Daily Bible Reading

The showing of unity throughout all of Judah and Jerusalem, was so great!!! I’m sure they didn’t agree with every decision he made, but they sure did love and respect him!!!
We don’t have to agree with every decision that our leaders choose and make. BUT it is IMPERATIVE that we love each other as ourselves and respect each other as well, especially when it comes to our Leader!!! Looking at the bigger picture is usually what is very helpful for me…..
Verses 22-23 NLT “But Josiah refused to listen to Neco, to whom God had indeed spoken, and he would not turn back. Instead, he disguised himself and led his army into battle on the plain of Megiddo. But the enemy archers hit King Josiah with their arrows and wounded him. He cried out to his men, “Take me from the battle, for I am badly wounded!” Stopping and listening can make a huge difference in your outcome. Trying to move ahead with your own agenda and not listening can put you in the middle of something that you have no business in. Seek the Lord and His direction.
5 And stand in the holy place according to the divisions of the families of the fathers of your brethren the people, and after the division of the families of the Levites.
6 So kill the passover, and sanctify yourselves, and prepare your brethren, that they may do according to the word of the Lord by the hand of Moses.KJV
“Then stand in the sanctuary at the place appointed for your family division and help the families assigned to you as they bring their offerings to the Temple. Slaughter the Passover lambs, purify yourselves, and prepare to help those who come. Follow all the directions that the Lord gave through Moses.”
2 Chronicles 35:5-6 NLT
As the POFW continues to win this city for the Kingdom of God the people’s hearts will grow with passion and turn from their idolatry and come to bear offerings for the LORD. Whether it be with their time, talent, or treasure one thing is definite…They are coming. God has spoken of harvest in this region nd revival in the church. Don’t grow weary. Renew yourselves in HIM. The harvest is coming and we will need all of our church to help minister to this region as they pour through the doors with their sacrifices. They will be broken, hurting, and hungry. We must keep ourselves purified just as the Levites so that we can serve these souls to the potential that God sees in us. God has shown me that thousands of people will flood the doors of the POFW for refuge/shelter from this unstable world. They will pour through the doors. We have to keep ourselves sanctified. It’s about to happen! We can grow faint. We must be strengthened and unified! The Windows of heaven are about to burst open and this region will be turned. Gather up your sword and sickle, POFW. The LORD is getting us ready. It’s about to happen. Praise God! What does it say that we were chose to serve in these last days? I’m not being prideful, but that says how much God loves and trusts us to do what He has called us to do. He has shown favor upon us. We are a blessed people. He trusts us. That’s why we are here. We have been called. We have been chosen. Jesus, I thank you. I praise your name.

7) And Josiah gave to the people, of the flock, lambs and kids, all for the passover offerings, for all that were present, to the number of thirty thousand, and three thousand bullocks; these were of the king’s substance.

As is often the case, when one gives willingly and generously, it prompts others to give willingly and generously.
We have seen this happen many times at POFW.

21. But King Neco sent messengers to Josiah with this message: “What do you want with me, king of Judah? I have no quarrel with you today! I am on my way to fight another nation, and God has told me to hurry! Do not interfere with God, who is with me, or he will destroy you.” NLT
When God has a willing and obedient vessel to carry out His will, there is no stopping it. Don’t think that because you aren’t the one doing it, that it won’t get done. Good people with good intentions can get hurt because they were not sensitive or obedient enough to stay out of the way.
The last passover
11 And they killed the passover, and the priests sprinkled the blood from their hands, and the Levites flayed them.
Wow. The passover isn’t just the action buy the thing. The sacrifice to passover the death from sin for another year. Jesus was the last passover. The great lamb of God. He died so I could have my passover. He is the last and greatest passover of the world. Thank you Jesus for what you did on the cross, for a sinner like me.
Verses 22-23 NLT “But Josiah refused to listen to Neco, to whom God had indeed spoken, and he would not turn back. Instead, he disguised himself and led his army into battle on the plain of Megiddo. But the enemy archers hit King Josiah with their arrows and wounded him. He cried out to his men, “Take me from the battle, for I am badly wounded!”
We must open our ears and listen when given the opportunity. .. in Josiah case it could have saved his life. We must be receptive to the word of God wherever the source is from.
“After that, they got things ready for themselves and the priests. That’s because the priests, who were from the family line of Aaron, were busy until dark. They were sacrificing the burnt offerings and the fat parts. The Levites got things ready for themselves and for the priests, who belonged to Aaron’s family line.”
2 Chronicles 35:14 NIRV
The Levites and priests ministered to the people and to each other. Ministry is W. O. R. K. and Unity!
15 And the singers the sons of Asaph were in their place, according to the commandment of David, and Asaph, and Heman, and Jeduthun the king’s seer; and the porters waited at every gate; they might not depart from their service; for their brethren the Levites prepared for them
18 And there was no passover like to that kept in Israel from the days of Samuel the prophet; neither did all the kings of Israel keep such a passover as Josiah kept, and the priests, and the Levites, and all Judah and Israel that were present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
There is such a great power in unity. When everyone understands their position and place in things and its all for the same cause. When people are concerned with doing their job and not worried about how others are doing things, there is a great peace in the sacrifice. We must all be of the same mind, standing our place in the position we have been given. It is at that time, when we are all in agreement and focused on the calling God gave us through our pastor that the sacrifice is most accepted. God honors obedience.
This Chapter is saying in eighteen years there is going to be a Passover.
We never know when we will have a Passover so we need to be ready for the return of the Lord.
“Some time later, after Josiah’s reformation of The Temple, Neco king of Egypt marched out toward Carchemish on the Euphrates River on his way to war. Josiah went out to fight him. Neco sent messengers to Josiah saying, “What do we have against each other, O King of Judah? I haven’t come to fight against you but against the country with whom I’m at war. God commanded me to hurry, so don’t get in my way; you’ll only interfere with God, who is on my side in this, and he’ll destroy you.” But Josiah was spoiling for a fight and wouldn’t listen to a thing Neco said (in actuality it was God who said it). Though King Josiah disguised himself when they met on the plain of Megiddo, archers shot him anyway. The king said to his servants, “Get me out of here—I’m badly wounded.””

I am reminded of a quote from an old cowboy movie “…fights not with you Holiday…”
I do not personally have this issue but have seen it in others; the over zealousness to get involved in things they have no business being involved in. Josiah was so on fire for God and the things of God’s kingdom that at the appearance of an adversary he flew off the handle and wanted to fight. Nero warned him, the fight is not with you but Josiah would not hear it. As I stated, I do not generally struggle with this urge to start a fight that I am not directly involved in. However, I do poke my nose into things it does not belong poked into.
It never seems to work out in my favor when I get involved in something that has nothing to do with me. I can understand Josiah’s thinking that Nero may have been playing a trick on him to so he would lower his guard then Nero would attack. Either way, being involved in things one has no business being involved in rarely turns out for the good.
STUBBORNNESS LEADS TO DEATH
20 After all this, when Josiah had prepared the temple, Necho king of Egypt came up to fight against Charchemish by Euphrates: and Josiah went out against him.
21 But he sent ambassadors to him, saying, What have I to do with thee, thou king of Judah? I come not against thee this day, but against the house wherewith I have war: for God commanded me to make haste: forbear thee from meddling with God, who is with me, that he destroy thee not.
22 Nevertheless Josiah would not turn his face from him, but disguised himself, that he might fight with him, and hearkened not unto the words of Necho from the mouth of God, and came to fight in the valley of Megiddo.
23 And the archers shot at king Josiah; and the king said to his servants, Have me away; for I am sore wounded.
24 His servants therefore took him out of that chariot, and put him in the second chariot that he had; and they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died, and was buried in one of the sepulchres of his fathers. And all Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah.
Josiah no doubt encouraged and elevated by the incredible passover, was overzealous and missed his warning sign. Josiah and all that he had done RIGHT lost his life in what he did WRONG.
Most often Victories are short lived and fast fading into the next battle. Even more frustrating and tragic is when we engage in battles that we are not called to fight in.
The PRIDE in Josiahs heart led him to engage in the battle. Victory is lost hard and quick when we engage in battle to prove a point or make a statement. Josiah invited himself to battle that he was not called to and Josiah was uncovered or unprotected by the LORD. When we choose our own paths and select our own battles we take the risk of defeat and even spiritual death through deception.
Choose to be willing and not stubborn, don’t let 1 victory deceive you to believing you are invincible. GOD is still in control. Josiah was warned by GOD to not go fight in the battle, but he went anyway and that STUBBORNNESS LEADS TO DEATH for Josiah.
Choose today to wholly and completely follow the LORD. Fight the GOOD fight of FAITH and do not engage in battles that are for someone else to win.

The Bad Decision of a Good Leader.
22But Josiah refused to listen to Neco, to whom God had indeed spoken, and he would not turn back. Instead, he disguised himself and led his army into battle on the plain of Megiddo.
We see here that even though the king of Egypt was a pagan, that he really indeed had heard the voice of God. The bible says, “to whom God had indeed spoken”. What makes matters worse is that this pagan king warned Josiah to not enter a battle that was not his. Josiah refused to heed the warning and thereby was removed from the protection of God himself.
Sometimes Apostolics enter into battles that do not belong to them and expect that God will always deliver them. This is not the case as we learn from Josiah. God will allow good leaders to make bad decisions. Prayer is the key. We must pray Gods will be done in every decision we make.
21 But he sent ambassadors to him, saying, What have I to do with thee, thou king of Judah? I come not against thee this day, but against the house wherewith I have war: for God commanded me to make haste: forbear thee from meddling with God, who is with me, that he destroy thee not.
Josiah might have thought the king of Egypt was trying to deceive him, but before he made the decision to go to war, he did not inquire of the Lord to be assured it was His will. We may be successful in many things that we do for God and yet must still be willing to seek Him before each endeavor. We cannot allow past success or failure to hold us back from seeking Him.
On another thought, the Passover that is written of in this chapter shows great organization. It was not done without a lot of thought and planning ahead of time. Participants had to know their duty ahead of time for this to have been accomplished in one day! We cannot plan too much for our events here at POFW!

This isn’t your fight Josiah! I’m not sure what was going through Josiah’s head when he heard Neco’s message. Maybe he thought it was a trick, or if the message was truly from God, God Himself would have filled him in too – who knows! Regardless, Josiah shouldn’t have been in this fight, and if he wasn’t sure about the truth behind the message, he very well could have prayed (which I don’t see that he did in these verses). Josiah should not have gotten in the way of Neco’s fight, this fight was for Neco and his own victory with the Lord.
Don’t be an obstacle in someone’s path to victory!

When there is unity Gods work can be done in order. The will of God will be done anyways because there will always be a willing servant that wants to used in our place if necessary if were in unity. If there is confusion there is chaos. Follow your leader regardless if you agree or not.
2 Chronicles 35:20 After all this when Josiah had set the temple in order Necho king of Egypt when up to fight at Carchemish on the Euphrates and Josiah marched out to meet him in battle. But Necho send messengers to him saying. What quarrel is there king of Judah between you and me? It is not you I am attacking at this time but the house with which I am at war. God has told me to hurry so stop opposing God who is with me or he will destroy you. Josiah however would not turn away from him but disguised himself to engage in battle. He would not listen to what Necho has said that God’s command but when to fight him on the plain of Megiddo. Archers shot King Josiah and told his officers take me away I am badly wounded. So they took him out of his chariot put him in his other chariot and brought him to Jerusalem where he died. He was buried in the Tomb of his ancestors and all Judah and Jerusalem mourned for him.
15 And the singers the sons of Asaph were in their place, according to the commandment of David, and Asaph, and Heman, and Jeduthun the king’s seer; and the porters waited at every gate; they might not depart from their service; for their brethren the Levites prepared for them.
16 So all the service of the Lord was prepared the same day, to keep the passover, and to offer burnt offerings upon the altar of the Lord, according to the commandment of king Josiah.
“in their place” – what does that mean to us? To me it means being where I’m supposed to be, when I’m supposed to be and prepared for what I am supposed to do. Too many times we see people rushing in unprepared just approaching service like its the night shift at a job. We must prepare ourselves prior to arriving so that when we arrive, our focus is set, our hearts are prepared and we can be “in place” for that responsibility so that whatever way God may choose, He can use us.
Be there — Be in place — Be engaged!
He issued this order to the Levites, who were to teach all Israel and who had been set apart to serve the Lord : “Put the holy Ark in the Temple that was built by Solomon son of David, the king of Israel. You no longer need to carry it back and forth on your shoulders. Now spend your time serving the Lord your God and his people Israel.
2 Chronicles 35:3 NLT
What are we doing with are time are
16-19 Everything went without a hitch in the worship of God that day as they celebrated the Passover and the offering of the Whole-Burnt-Offering on the Altar of God. It went just as Josiah had ordered. The Israelites celebrated the Passover, also known as the Feast of Unraised Bread, for seven days. The Passover hadn’t been celebrated like this since the days of Samuel the prophet. None of the kings had done it. But Josiah, the priests, the Levites, all Judah and Israel who were there that week, plus the citizens of Jerusalem—they did it. In the eighteenth year of the rule of King Josiah, this Passover was celebrated. MSG
5 “Then stand in the sanctuary at the place appointed for your family division and help the families assigned to you as they bring their offerings to the Temple. NLT
Be Ready, Be at your appointed place and time!
21 But Necho sent messengers to him, saying, “What quarrel is there, king of Judah, between you and me? It is not you I am attacking at this time, but the house with which I am at war. God has told me to hurry; so stop opposing God, who is with me, or he will destroy you.”
God told him to hurry just like how God told us to Go….Don’t let anything or anyone try to stop us from what God has commanded us to do. Gods plans are better than our own plans. Give me the wisdom Lord to discern who or what wants to stop me from fulfilling your commands. Guide me daily Lord!!!!

Most times the best way to show people the Jesus we have is to not only lead by example but also to encourage them to commit and work with you. Talk is cheap. Anyone can point fingers and tell someone what to do, but a good leader has the ump in them to encourage and even join in the activities as they lead by example.
6 Your job is to kill the Passover lambs, then consecrate yourselves and prepare the lambs so that everyone will be able to keep the Passover exactly as God commanded through Moses.” 7 Josiah personally donated 30,000 sheep, lambs, and goats and 3,000 bulls –
Exactly as God has commanded . Amen!
“Nevertheless Josiah would not turn his face from him, but disguised himself, that he might fight with him, and hearkened not unto the words of Necho from the mouth of God, and came to fight in the valley of Megiddo.” The word of God (Jesus) identifies pride. One that is unwilling to hearken and simply wants one’s own way, may one day live in regret. Dear God, help us that we may not be lost. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!
“And his princes gave willingly unto the people, to the priests, and to the Levites: Hilkiah and Zechariah and Jehiel, rulers of the house of God, gave unto the priests for the passover offerings two thousand and six hundred small cattle and three hundred oxen.” They gave to those that were in need so that they could give an offering. Giving can be a blessing; however what the receiver does with it may not always be wise. God help us comprehend giving, in Jesus name.

You may live a succesful life and so great and mighty things for the Lord and please him….but one simple disobedience can cost your life.
2 And he set the priests in their charges, and encouraged them to the service of the house of the Lord,
Leaders encourage others to serve the house of God. It’s not time to be idle but put our hands to the plow and encourage others to do the same.
God has all in control. When you put your trust in him, you come out victorious.
The trouble with perception. Josiah judged the Pharoah by the reputation of a pagan. It didn’t matter what he said or that it was of God because Josiah wasn’t going to hear it. He made his decision prematurely and in haste. Josiah had already made up in his mind that he was doing the right thing. Leaders at times have terrible communication and worse don’t take enough time to listen to those below them. This may not have been Josiahs fight but he very well could have got all his facts straight first instead of drawing conclusion. He should have gone to the source before jumping into battle over something over simple as miscommunication. He was after all the king appointed by God, wouldnt he trust that God would answer. Jumping the gun the way he did lead to destruction. His decision effected his walk, the people and his family.
22 Nevertheless Josiah would not turn his face from him, but disguised himself, that he might fight with him, and hearkened not unto the words of Necho from the mouth of God, and came to fight in the valley of Megiddo.
23 And the archers shot at king Josiah; and the king said to his servants, Have me away; for I am sore wounded.
Josiah was a great king.
22 Nevertheless Josiah would not turn his face from him, but disguised himself, that he might fight with him, and hearkened not unto the words of Necho from the mouth of God, and came to fight in the valley of Megiddo.
23 And the archers shot at king Josiah; and the king said to his servants, Have me away; for I am sore wounded.
Deceit never produces anything positive. Lying is progressive, you say one and you have to spend a lot of time lying to keep that lie protected.
Tell a lie once all and all your truths become questionable.
There is a job for every person and a person for every job.
22 Nevertheless Josiah would not turn his face from him, but disguised himself, that he might fight with him, and hearkened not unto the words of Necho from the mouth of God, and came to fight in the valley of Megiddo.
23 And the archers shot at king Josiah; and the king said to his servants, Have me away; for I am sore wounded.
Deceit can not produce anything positive. When you tell a i.e., you and to keep lying just to protect that lie. It never ends.
Tell a lie once and all your truths become questionable.

22 But Josiah refused to listen to Neco, to whom God had indeed spoken, and he would not turn back. Instead, he disguised himself and led his army into battle on the plain of Megiddo.
This verse tells me to not get cocky. God is sovereign and he can speak to anyone. I must humble myself and seek God for his direction every day.
15 And the singers the sons of Asaph were in their place, according to the commandment of David, and Asaph, and Heman, and Jeduthun the king’s seer; and the porters waited at every gate; they might not depart from their service; for their brethren the Levites prepared for them.
16 So all the service of the Lord was prepared the same day, to keep the passover, and to offer burnt offerings upon the altar of the Lord, according to the commandment of king Josiah.
“and stand in the holy place” meant to me. waiting on God to direct moving forward or just not at all, according to his will john soliz.
“And Jeremiah lamented for Josiah: and all the singing men and the singing women spake of Josiah in their lamentations to this day, and made them an ordinance in Israel: and, behold, they are written in the lamentations.”
2 Chronicles 35:25
The man of God mourned for the king even though he did not heed the warning that was given to stay at home. When we are given warnings from the man of God in our life and we choose to ignore them we don’t always see the effects we cause. The men of God who are set to watch over us care so much that it grieves them and they mourn. Our. Voices don’t just touch us, but those around us as well.
Nevertheless Josiah would not turn his face from him, but disguised himself, that he might fight with him, and hearkened not unto the words of Neco from the mouth of God, and came to fight in the valley of Megiddo.(2 Chronicles 35:22 KJV)
This battle may have been between the children of God and Egypt. This wasnt his battle to fight. However, the end time battle will take place here in Megiddo (Rev 16:16). The battle is the Lords and not between to be in mans hands.
4 Report for duty according to the family divisions of your ancestors, following the directions of King David of Israel and the directions of his son Solomon.
