Isaiah 38

In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live.

Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed unto the Lord,

And said, Remember now, O Lord, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.

Then came the word of the Lord to Isaiah, saying,

Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.

And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria: and I will defend this city.

And this shall be a sign unto thee from the Lord, that the Lord will do this thing that he hath spoken;

Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down in the sun dial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward. So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down.

The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick, and was recovered of his sickness:

10 I said in the cutting off of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave: I am deprived of the residue of my years.

11 I said, I shall not see the Lord, even the Lord, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.

12 Mine age is departed, and is removed from me as a shepherd’s tent: I have cut off like a weaver my life: he will cut me off with pining sickness: from day even to night wilt thou make an end of me.

13 I reckoned till morning, that, as a lion, so will he break all my bones: from day even to night wilt thou make an end of me.

14 Like a crane or a swallow, so did I chatter: I did mourn as a dove: mine eyes fail with looking upward: O Lord, I am oppressed; undertake for me.

15 What shall I say? he hath both spoken unto me, and himself hath done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul.

16 O Lord, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit: so wilt thou recover me, and make me to live.

17 Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.

18 For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.

19 The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth.

20 The Lord was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the Lord.

21 For Isaiah had said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it for a plaister upon the boil, and he shall recover.

22 Hezekiah also had said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the Lord?

  1. Verses 4-6 CEV “Then the Lord sent me with this message for Hezekiah: I am the Lord God, who was worshiped by your ancestor David. I heard you pray, and I saw you cry. I will let you live fifteen years more, while I protect you and your city from the king of Assyria.:”.

1 Samuel 2:6 CEV says “You take away life, and you give life. You send people down to the world of the dead and bring them back again.”

Job 1:21 CEV “and said: “We bring nothing at birth; we take nothing with us at death. The Lord alone gives and takes. Praise the name of the Lord!””

  2. 22. Hezekiah: When will I know that I am well enough to go to the Eternal’s house? Is there a sign I should look for? Voice

He could have asked when he could return to his throne, where he would be welcomed with royal fanfare; instead, he was more interested in going to worship God.

    Psalm 122:1
I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord. KJV

  3. 19 The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth.

Oh what a great responsibility we have! It is vital that we pray but it is equally important that we include our children. When our prayers are answered tell them how God answered. Rejoice together and thank God together.

  4. “Think of it—the Lord is ready to heal me! I will sing his praises with instruments every day of my life in the Temple of the Lord. Isaiah had said to Hezekiah’s servants, “Make an ointment from figs and spread it over the boil, and Hezekiah will recover.” And Hezekiah had asked, “What sign will prove that I will go to the Temple of the Lord?””
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭38:20-22‬ ‭NLT‬‬

In those days no one was allowed in the temple with sickness or disease. Hezekiah desired to GO to the Lord’s temple, but he needed to know when he was able to GO. Today, we have a great opportunity because we can come to the house as we are and leave complete and whole. There’s nothing too hard for God.

I will live, I will not die
I will declare and lift You high
Christ revealed and I am healed
    In Jesus’ Name

  5. 17 Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.

In love He has brought me peace for my brokenness. He has born all my sickness and sorrow. Though my sins were as scarlet He has washed me.
In Him there is fullness of Joy.

  6. 16 Lord, by such things men live; and my spirit finds life in them too. You restored me to health and let me live.
17 surely it was for my benefit that I suffered such anguish. In your love you kept me from the pit of destruction; you have put all my sins behind your back.

  7. But what could I say? For he himself sent this sickness.
Now I will walk humbly throughout my years because
of this anguish I have felt. Isaiah 38:15 NLT

From an article on the internet about sundials
A sundial is a device that tells the time of day by the apparent position of the Sun in the sky. In the narrowest sense of the word, it consists of a flat plate (the dial) and a gnomon, which casts a shadow onto the dial. As the Sun appears to move across the sky, the shadow aligns with different hour-lines, which are marked on the dial to indicate the time of day. The style is the time-telling edge of the gnomon, though a single point or nodus may be used. The gnomon casts a broad shadow; the shadow of the style shows the time. The gnomon may be a rod, wire, or elaborately decorated metal casting. The style must be parallel to the axis of the Earth’s rotation for the sundial to be accurate throughout the year. The style’s angle from horizontal is equal to the sundial’s geographical latitude.

This is a tremendous miracle, but to God it is easy. I would imagine it caused great chaos in the world when it happened as well. The fact of the matter is, the earth spins on it’s axis and this causes the sundial to move. What happened here for a brief moment is the sundial started moving backwards meaning the earth started spinning the other direction. BOOM! What an Awesome God!

  9. 5 Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.

The Lord heard his prayers and tears! Prayer is something so powerful that we might not see it happen right away but the Lord hears every single prayer and tears! I have seen many miracles because of prayer! Prayer is just so powerful!!! No prayer or tear is in vain because the Lord see it all!!! Through prayer, souls are going to give their life to Jesus, repent, receive the HG, get baptized, get delivered, send them here!! There is power in prayer!!

  10. Hezekiah was ill. notice the bible says deafly ill. Which means he was going 2 die. A prophet told him you are not going to recover. Hezekiah turned around prayed . and wept he wept bitterly. Then a message was sent to him . fifteen years will be added to his life . now Hezekiah wrote a poem of praise . sometimes God brings you into situations , you may fall ill. But just know you need 2 get your praise on . because when you walk out that situation or that sickness you are a walking testimony. Are you gonna believe the negative report or are you gonna believe the positive report.

  11. 7 And this shall be a sign unto thee from the Lord, that the Lord will do this thing that he hath spoken;

8 Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down in the sun dial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward. So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down.

    GOD has Mercy on Hezekiah
Even though Hezekiah sin GOD had Mercy on him cry of repentance
GoD promise Hezekiah 15 more years
And so Hezekiah that he is a promise keeper he show Hezekiah a sign
Our GOD always keep his promises

  12. Isaiah 38
What an awesome chapter today on…
    1) God hearing our prayers and seeing our tears. (vs. 5)
    2) Miracles taking place. (Hezekiah was sick and going to die, but God granted him 15 more years of life (vs.1 & 5), and the sun returning 10 degrees (vs.8).)
    3) On love, deliverance, and forgiveness. (vs.17)

Thank You JESUS! You’re an Awesome God!!

  13. 16 Lord, your discipline is good, for it leads to life and health. You restore my health and allow me to live!
17 Yes, this anguish was good for me, for you have rescued me from death and forgiven all my sins. (NLT)

Everything as a purpose, everything happens to the glory of God. We have the choice to obey and in that obedience we have the opportunity to work in power – Hezekiah demonstrates that for us. Thank You Jesus for saving me, for leading me through discipline, for restoring and redeeming me, for a new day to live my life pleasing unto You!

  14. 20 The Lord was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the Lord.

The Lord is always ready to save anyone who will turn to him. Salvation is for whosoever will. Hezekiah turned to the Lord in prayer and his prayer was heard and answered. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

  15. MSG 16-19 O Master, these are the conditions in which people live,
and yes, in these very conditions my spirit is still alive—
fully recovered with a fresh infusion of life!
It seems it was good for me
to go through all those troubles.
Throughout them all you held tight to my lifeline.
You never let me tumble over the edge into nothing.
But my sins you let go of,
threw them over your shoulder—good riddance!
    The dead don’t thank you,
and choirs don’t sing praises from the morgue.
    Those buried six feet under
don’t witness to your faithful ways.
It’s the living—live men, live women—who thank you,
just as I’m doing right now.
    Parents give their children
full reports on your faithful ways.

Throughout our lives we go through testings of our faith. God never leaves us during that time. They are test to build us, to strengthen our relationship with Him. They help us see things in a different light. Many of us have cried just like Hezekiah for God to deliver us because we couldn’t see the light at the end. However, God is faithful, and when the test has accomplished what it was sent to do, He brings it to end. Just like Hezekiah, if we can muster up praise regardless of what the test is, we will find the end faster. Praise will bring us through.

We are witness to a recurrence of FAITH and PRAYER. Hezekiah in chapters 37 and 38 has received discouraging reports. The first from an adversary and the second from GOD. In both instances, Hezekiah didn’t post it on social media, didn’t call all his family and friends. Hezekiah PRAYED.

GOD heard his plea for life and granted him 15 years. In chapter 37 GOD heard his plea for VICTORY and sent an angel to destroy his enemies.

Whatever you are facing today, call out to GOD in PRAYER. Seek ye FIRST the Kingdom of GOD. Answers will come from supernatural encounters.

    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭38:18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

In proverbs you see how Sin is death, in this verse we see how death cannot celebrate thee! Then the rest of the verse says they that Go down to the PIT cannot hope for thy truth…

Thy truth is thy word. Thy word is the Lord.
Give someone a revelation on sin today.
That once they’re gone and in the pit there is no turning back.
    Let them know the truth
    Let them know the word

20 The Lord was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the Lord.

21 For Isaiah had said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it for a plaister upon the boil, and he shall recover.

22 Hezekiah also had said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the Lord?

We have here Hezekiah’s thanksgiving. It is well for us to remember the mercies we receive in sickness. Hezekiah records the condition he was in. He dwells upon this; I shall no more see the Lord. A good man wishes not to live for any other end than that he may serve God, and have communion with him. Our present residence is like that of a shepherd in his hut, a poor, mean, and cold lodging, and with a trust committed to our charge, as the shepherd has. Our days are compared to the weaver’s shuttle, Job 7:6, passing and repassing very swiftly, every throw leaving a thread behind it; and when finished, the piece is cut off, taken out of the loom, and showed to our Master to be judged of. A good man, when his life is cut off, his cares and fatigues are cut off with it, and he rests from his labours. But our times are in God’s hand; he has appointed what shall be the length of the piece. When sick, we are very apt to calculate our time, but are still at uncertainty. It should be more our care how we shall get safe to another world. And the more we taste of the loving-kindness of God, the more will our hearts love him, and live to him. It was in love to our poor perishing souls that Christ delivered them. The pardon does not make the sin not to have been sin, but not to be punished as it deserves. It is pleasant to think of our recoveries from sickness, when we see them flowing from the pardon of sin. Hezekiah’s opportunity to glorify God in this world, he made the business, and pleasure, and end of life. Being recovered, he resolves to abound in praising and serving God. God’s promises are not to do away, but to quicken and encourage the use of means. Life and health are given that we may glorify God and do good.

  19. For the dead cannot praise you;
they cannot raise their voices in praise.
Those who go down to the grave
can no longer hope in your faithfulness.
Only the living can praise you as I do today.
Each generation tells of your faithfulness to the next. 18 – 19 NLT

YOLO is an acronym for “You Only Live Once”

Fall 2011 the slang word “YOLO” was completely absent, by spring of 2012 YOLO had become the most frequently mentioned slang term. Now, YOLO is present on apparel, media, and present on social media. It has spread throughout generations from the youngest to the oldest.

YOLO encourages to be adventurous, test the limits, because “You Only Live Once”.

VS 18 states the dead cannot praise you, I couldn’t help but mumble #yolo as I continued reading. Yet, I had to come back and truly think about the sincerity of the statement.

We are blessed with time on this earth, once it’s gone that’s it.
Only the living can praise Him.

How are we spending our time? Are we telling everyone we meet about God’s Love? Are we spending time with Him in Prayer and Reading His Word?

If we took the acronym to heart #YOLO how much more would we do for The Kingdom of God?

  20. d, Remember now, O Lord, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.

4 Then came the word of the Lord to Isaiah, saying,

5 Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.

6 And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria: and I will defend this city.

God still answers prayer. There are scriptures like these that really prove that like this particular passage. When we pray we can expect God to answer our request if we ask in faith believing that he will answer. Let’s pray in faith!

  21. Isaiah 38:17 (English Amp) Behold, It was for my peace that I had intense bitterness; But You have loved back my life of from the pit of corruption and nothingness for You have cast all my sins behind Your back. We know that sin is death. But there is deliverance in Jesus Christ. Praise God! So why not go and be washed and Baptist in Jesus name. To be pure and holy for him. Make a change today in your life. You will feel about good that you did. For God is the truth forever. He loves you.

  22. “When Hezekiah heard this, he turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, “Remember, O Lord, how I have always been faithful to you and have served you single-mindedly, always doing what pleases you.” Then he broke down and wept bitterly. Then this message came to Isaiah from the Lord: “Go back to Hezekiah and tell him, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your ancestor David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will add fifteen years to your life,”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭38:2-5‬ ‭NLT‬‬

  23. 3. And said, Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hez-e-ki’-ah wept sore. 4. Then came the word of the LORD to I-sa’-iah, saying, 5. Go, and say to Hez-e-ki’-ah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of Da’-vid thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years. O LORD MY GOD !!!!

  24. 3 “Remember, O LORD, how I have always been faithful to you and have served you single-mindedly, always doing what pleases you.” Then he broke down and wept bitterly.

When we are before the Lord, I would have to say, we’ll be all crying. The uncertainty if God will allow us to enter into his Kingdom. Lets continue to be faithful to God, and serve to the best of our ability.

  25. 4 Then came the word of the Lord to Isaiah, saying,
5 Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.
6 And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria: and I will defend this city.
God added more years to Hezekiah’s life and delivered the city or if the of the earthly long of Assyria when it seemed as if all was to be lost. How much more does he and will do for his children that are purchased by the shedding of His precious blood. Just keep being faithful. God is watching and will reward his children. His ways are greater than our ways,His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. When it seems as if all is at an end.; he always answers and makes a way when there is no way!

  26. 1 For Isaiah had said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it for a plaister upon the boil, and he shall recover.
22 Hezekiah also had said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the Lord?

All too often, we get caught up on “signs”. We know that “these signs shall follow them…”, and we also know that Jesus rebuked people for seeking signs. While we are to have signs (fruit) of being spirit filled, apostolic, born again believers, we are to walk by faith and not by sight. When we look for signs so that we believe what Jesus tells us is truth, we throw faith out the window, and “without faith it is impossible to please God.”

  27. 5 Go and say to Hezekiah, thus saith the Lord, the God of David the father, I have heard they prayer, I have seen the tears, behold, I will add unto the days fifteen years. And I will deliver the and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria and I will defend this city.. Just when we think that it’s all over God answers our prayers, heals us and delivers us from sin and trouble. What a mighty God we serve.

  28. 6 And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria: and I will defend this city.
    7 And this shall be a sign unto thee from the Lord, that the Lord will do this thing that he hath spoken;

Because he prayed unto the LORD and because my GOD IS FAITHFUL!!!

  29. 5 Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.

6 And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria: and I will defend this city.

God has heard your cry, He has heard your prayers and He is faithful to answer!

  30. 16 O Lord, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit: so wilt thou recover me, and make me to live.

Don’t live for the things of this earth, but live for what God has for you. Through the bad and in the good , give thanks to God. For he is on the thrown.

  31. 20 The Lord was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life into the house of the Lord.

Have you ever wondered if the Lord is just waiting to step into our situation, just anticipating the prayer and the praise that are given to him for him to step in and rescue us from our trouble? Sometimes we don’t realize how close we are to our miracle, because we fall short by singing the songs of praise and crying out

  32. 19 The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth.

20 The Lord was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the Lord.

To the Lord that hears and answers prayer to Him be all praise. I praise you Lord and magnify your name for time and time you have heard my cry and attended my needs.

  33. A declaration is made here that should always be true of the people of God. ‘The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth. The Lord was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the Lord.’ As long as we have breath within us we should continue to praise the Lord. It should be a natural part of who we are, not just a song that we sing. We praise the Lord in the beauty of holiness by how we live the entirety of our lives and just like is spoken here, it should be something that is passed down to our children. If we refuse to accept the torch of Truth from those who came before us, if we refuse to pass that torch unto our children, we have refused to praise and worship God. It is not liberty, it is rebellion, which is why we worship him in spirit and in truth! And when those join in a holy people, he desires to hear our praise all the days of our life! And beyond!

  34. 4 Then came the word of the Lord to Isaiah, saying,

Lord speak to me in my trials and tribulations I want wisdom and understanding for you are holy and great! I pray for your will in my life. Less of me lord more of you! Thank you Jesus!

  35. God looks after his people and will answer our prayers. Sometimes we may not feel like God is listening, but he is. We must continue to trust un the Lord. He will help us to overcome.

  36. 18 For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.

    Praise him while we can!

My father has a saying,”if you’re gonna bring roses when I’m dead or cry for me or visit my grave, why do t you by me flowers now and cry with me now or visit me now that I’m alive, I can’t enjoy any of it when I’m dead!”

Hes right, what’s the point of trying to do things when it’s too late, we need to pray right now when we can and are able too. I’m reminded of the Rich man and Lazarus story, how he wanted to serve God but when it was too late.

Like the saying goes, there are no atheist in hell!

  37. v1 In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of AmOz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live.

Oh LORD you are so good to give us premonitions and for warnings.
This thought came to mind when we come to Church we are not doing GOD nor the Pastor a favor with our presence.
It not what can I do for you but what can HE do for us,
We ought to thank GOD for our Pastor that preaches truth against sin and hell is still hot.Thank GOD for every sermon that sends us home with a heaviness .He does it because he loves us.

  38. Thank you Jesus for always being an on time God’
The Lord was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the

  39. 2 Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed unto the Lord,

3 And said, Remember now, O Lord, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight.

We have a God of second chances, that is merciful and graceful to us and has favor on us if we live the way He wants us to.

  40. 17 Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.

If we think God is going to be our genie in a bottle, and make everything good in our lives, we’re going to be mad at God when something bad happens. Having faith in God is not insurance against hardships. Believing He does have a reason for everything we go through helps us to trust that something bigger is going on here, even more than we can probably understand. A lot of our anger and frustration in life comes from thinking about ourselves too much – we think about the way things are and how different they are from how we wish they’d be.

  41. What shall I say? he hath both spoken unto me, and himself hath done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul.

  42. Now I will prove to you that I will keep my promise.
    Isaiah 38:7

God added 15 years to king Hezekiahs life, then delivers him from the hand of his enemy the king of Assyria. He declares to protect the city and gives a sign that he will keep his promise by changing the steps of the sun like he did once for king Ahaz . God will always keep his promises in the most mind blowing ways.

  43. Prayer changes things! This is proven here, where God relents after Hezekiah pleads for his life. When we pray we touch the heart of God. Overall, God’s will for humanity doesn’t change. He won’t back down from the decrees and promises that he’s made. But when we pray we pour out ourselves before him that may change or mold the course of our lives and nations within the limits of his will. He encourages us to pray continually (1Th 5:17) for his will, our desires, the needs and salvation or others. Jesus himself prays (Mt 14:23; Heb 7:25) and teaches his disciples to pray and not to give up (Luke 18:1).

  44. 3 And said, Remember now, O Lord, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.

It is never too late to cry out unto God for our needs because he doesn’t forget our actions meant to praise and magnify him. He always respond to our prayers, and he rewards those glorifies him.

  45. 1 In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live.

2 Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed unto the Lord,

3 And said, Remember now, O Lord, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight.

The prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Even saving from death and judgement. Adding years where there was none left. May I always remember to pray often and fervently that I might avail much.
