Jonah 2
1 Then Jonah prayed unto the Lord his God out of the fish’s belly,
2 And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.
3 For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.
4 Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.
5 The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.
6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O Lord my God.
7 When my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.
8 They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.
9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.
10 And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

It’s often when we are at our lowest and most desperate time that we cry out to God. It’s also at these times that God hears our cries! We must never take for granted the privilege of prayer and how to get them answered!!!
Then Jonah prayed unto the Lord his God out of the fish’s belly, And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord , and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

I praise God that He is faithful to hear us when we cry by reason of our affliction, but how much better would it have been if Jonah had prayed about his reluctance to do the will of God in the first place? He could have prevented all the loss of the first chapter and the experience of this second one if he had just been honest with God and received the strength and burden to do the job he was told to do.
We don’t know the whole reason Jonah ran, but it would appear from later chapters that he was more concerned about his reputation than the lost souls of Nineveh. He didn’t want to put his reputation on the line by saying Nineveh would be destroyed when he knew God was merciful and would forgive. Perhaps he also felt that Ninevah deserved judgment because of their sin.
It’s amazing how we can be so quick to see and judge the sins of others and be so blind to our own. Apparently, it was okay in Jonah’s mind to say ‘no’ to God and to go stubbornly in the opposite direction from His will. Moreover, he had no problem asking for the same mercy he felt Nineveh didn’t deserve.
Jonah finally realized his thoughts were lying vanities. We would also benefit to realize that any justifications we give ourselves to rebel against God’s will or Word are lies, and any judgmental attitude we have toward others is vanity. Unless God’s faithful love leads us into affliction so that we repent, we will not know His mercy. However, we can save ourselves and those around us a lot of hurt if we learn to repent of all hardness of heart, rebellion, and judgmentalism as soon as we feel it rise up within us.
May God reveal to us every lying vanity we are harboring in our thoughts, and may He grant us the wisdom and humility to quickly and thoroughly repent.
Verse 2 AMP “and said, “I called out of my trouble and distress to the Lord, And He answered me; Out of the belly of Sheol I cried for help, And You heard my voice.” Jonah remembered who he could cry out to for help. We must never forget that we have a God who loves us and we know who we can call upon in our time of need. We can shoot that prayer missile out from where ever we are and God will hear it. Psalm 66:16-20 MSG “All believers, come here and listen, let me tell you what God did for me. I called out to him with my mouth, my tongue shaped the sounds of music. If I had been cozy with evil, the Lord would never have listened. But he most surely did listen, he came on the double when he heard my prayer. Blessed be God: he didn’t turn a deaf ear, he stayed with me, loyal in his love.”

What are you going to do when you end up in the belly of a fish? Some may cry woe is me and accept their fate of doom. But I will choose to be like Jonah and call out to the God of my salvation. The MSG version says to come back to your first love.

Jonah had allowed his self will to get in the path of God’s will. He wasted precious time in his disobedience to God . Jonah finally in the midst of facing death realized he had believed a lie he had went after self serving idols instead of a full commitment to God. Thankfully Gods grace and extended mercy releases Jonah and Jonah gives a song of thanksgiving and a repented heart. Sin is like being in the belly of the whale; seed weed wrapped around Jonah’s head . Satan starts in our mind to wrap our thoughts as far away from God as he possibly can.
This is why we must guard our minds with the helmet of salvation remembering the unmerited favor of God’s love.
In the darkest place God is still there
Jonah had had to come face to face with death before he submitted completely to God’s will.
Lord help us to stay in your will knowing you have all in your hands m. In Jesus name.

God is quick to forgive to a repentant heart. Sometimes quick to remove an affliction in our life at the moment we turn. Some people see God as a vengeful angry God ready to strike down at a moment’s notice, when the truth couldn’t be farther from that. God has no desire to be angry with us, he doesn’t enjoy punishing his children, he is often waiting for them to turn away from doing those things just to pour out blessings. Thanks be to Jesus for his loving nature

After all is said and done my mom, dad, family, job, friends. Pastor. Cannot save me From going to hades. Only me myself and I can help make it to heaven . But at the end of time only the Lord Jesus Christ has the last say and I am OK with that That makes me try harder.

There is nowhere too far from God.
Even from the land of the dead, God’s ear heard Jonah’s prayer, and God’s voice reached the fish.

KINGDOM PRAYER

As we witness here with Jonah so it is with so many people today. There is an attitude or spirit of man that will resort to prayer from disobedience instead of purpose to pray and obey.
Jonah in his choice of rebellion and running, realized he had found an opportunity to repent and cry out to GOD. May JESUS help us to recognize that JESUS loves us and seeks our soul to be eternally with HIM and that GOD has a plan for each of us and if and when we become stubborn, we fall in to horrible circumstances, created by our choices.
We must always remember, that regardless of how far we have fallen, we can still cry unto the LORD from the deepest, darkest place we have ever been.
KINGDOM PRAYER minimizes the rebellious choices that we make.
Kingdom Prayer = Pray, Listen, Obey.

Romans 8:39
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Nothing shall separate you from the love of Jesus. No matter how far you go, even if you are sallowed by a whale and taken deeper than you could ever go, nothing shall separate you from the love of Jesus. He will hear your cries and lift you up and place you on the rock to stay. And whatever affliction you are in, Jonah said he was in the belly of hell. Know that it is not the end. God could very well be using it to mold you and save you far worse tragedy that you would bring on yourself and others he loves. Be Still and know that he is God. Seek his face and turn form the wicked ways (repent) and God will hear your cries and heal your land, situation or problem.
When we feel like our steps just aren’t as solidly on the path as they should be, when the enemy feeds us thoughts of disillusions, when we feel like God just isn’t too be be found, Jonah’s response is a good example to follow. ‘Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.’ He knew he wasn’t in the will of God. He knew that he had made the choice to walk away himself. He recognized the dire plight he was in and made another choice: the choice to look again towards the things of God!
It requires more than just a passing thought however, it requires an action on our part, and Jonah’s action is also a good example to follow. ‘When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.’ Notice he didn’t have to be physically at the temple for his prayers to be heard. He understood the significance of the incense of prayer and knew that God would receive an earnest prayer regardless of where he was, just as if it were made in the temple itself. We have an even greater importunity today, for our God’s temple, where he ‘tabernacles’ is within us! When the temple needs some airing out, when those prayers need some renewal, the fire of repentance can provide an immediate opportunity for God’s grace and mercy to be reestablished upon our life!

Thanksgiving sacrifice
As it has been said before, it is through our thanksgiving and praises that get us through the hard times. The sacrifice is the when it hurts to give it. When we don’t want too, that’s when we must do it.
Let His Kingdom Come. Let His Will Be Done
Jonah2:9-10 But as for me, I will sacrifice to You with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that which have vowed. Salvation and deliverance belong to the Lord ! [10] And the Lord spoke to the fish, the dry land. We have all been in the pits of darkness where we think that God doesn’t hear our prayers But he hears all prayers. And He will answer them in his time. If would come to repentance and prayer. Salvation and prayer is what we need in our lives today. So what are we waiting for ? Lord help us stay in your will and don’t leave or give up.

PRAISE GOD! For his mercy endurethe forever.
4Then I said, ‘O LORD, you have driven me from your presence. Yet I will look once more toward your holy Temple.’
If you stop living for God, you won’t feel God in your presence. Even worse is if you slowly move away from and don’t realize God has left your presence. That’s when sin slowly comes back into your life. If you don’t feel God, it’s time to return to prayer and to the alter to seek him.
2 He prayed: “In trouble, deep trouble, I prayed to God. He answered me. From the belly of the grave I cried, ‘Help!’ You heard my cry.
Thank you God for hearing my cries of prayer to you. No matter the situation I know you anwser prayers. Thank you Lord for your love, comfort, and peace you give to us when you hear our cries. There is nothing my God can not do!

True Repentance brings Salvation and Deliverance.

Jonah cried because of his affliction however we may not have to go through as much affliction if we just listen in the first place. Jonah did not listen to God at first so God put him though this situation to do what God told him to do in the first place. It is easier and better to obey at first. So, let us GO IMMEDIATELY WHEN THE LORD CALLS US!

I’m glad Jonah was humbled. Some times we just need that time where we are disconnected from everything so we can reflect on where we are and where we lack. Sadly, even though Jonah is full of Thanksgiving because God saved him he still hasn’t fully repented. His heart is still hardened against Nineveh. What will it take for bitterness to be removed from us?

Wow, it takes some folks being eatten by a great fish in order to fulfill their commitments to the Lord. Sometimes the Lord has to take us to the place we cannot escape in order to get our attention and for us to understand that we need to pay our vows unto Him. Even in the intestines of this great fish, Jonah was able to praise and worship the Lord and he soon was determined to do what he was supposed to do.

God is Good all the time

Even when you think God can’t hear you cry out He can! God is all knowing and it might take a minute but God is an on time God. The fact Jonah was swallowed up may have been what it took to take him to the next level of his spiritual life. It’s said to say but maybe that trial is what it took for his relationship with God to strengthen.

I pray the Lord does not have to cast me into a desolate or desperate place so that I will cry out to him! I pray that through his strength that I will be willing and able to do his will. And through these scriptures I know that if or when my life gets crazy, I have a God that loves me and hears my cry and will answer prayer in the desperate times.

Observe when Jonah prayed. When he was in trouble, under the tokens of God’s displeasure against him for sin: when we are in affliction we must pray. Being kept alive by miracle, he prayed. A sense of God’s good-will to us, notwithstanding our offences, opens the lips in prayer, which were closed with the dread of wrath. Also, where he prayed; in the belly of the fish. No place is amiss for prayer. Men may shut us from communion with one another, but not from communion with God. To whom he prayed; to the Lord his God. This encourages even backsliders to return. What his prayer was. This seems to relate his experience and reflections, then and afterwards, rather than to be the form or substance of his prayer. Jonah reflects on the earnestness of his prayer, and God’s readiness to hear and answer. If we would get good by our troubles, we must notice the hand of God in them. He had wickedly fled from the presence of the Lord, who might justly take his Holy Spirit from him, never to visit him more. Those only are miserable, whom God will no longer own and favour. But though he was perplexed, yet not in despair. Jonah reflects on the favour of God to him, when he sought to God, and trusted in him in his distress. He warns others, and tells them to keep close to God. Those who forsake their own duty, forsake their own mercy; those who run away from the work of their place and day, run away from the comfort of it. As far as a believer copies those who observe lying vanities, he forsakes his own mercy, and lives below his privileges. But Jonah’s experience encourages others, in all ages, to trust in God, as the God of salvation.

The Lord has his unique way of dealing with us when we choose not to listen to his voice. He knows just how to humble us and make us remember. Oh that we may come to our senses and listen to the voice of the Lord. He is in control and had his way of accomplishing his will.
He prayed to the Lord. And he answered. Even though Jonah messed up he prayed to the Lord and he listened. There was a time I was in sin. I went to a place I shouldn’t have been and did a thing I shouldn’t have done . And I felt like I was too far from God . I don’t like being separated from God . So I cried and confess and I repented. God always has been merciful to me. And now I feel closer to him .

I need to be continually trusting in God so that when I come to a difficult situation in life my first instinct is to turn to God. Even in the difficult situations He can hear my cry! Even in the hard times I can still pray to Him! Praise the Lord for He is merciful for His hand co ti hally uplifts and guides me every day! Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!

Psalm 18:6 God’s Answer
In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him,even into his ears.

People keep running away from God until they’re in a deep situation only He can get them out of. Let’s not be like that. Let’s seek God at all times and let Him fulfill His purpose in our life.
Then I said, ‘O Lord , you have driven me from your presence. Yet I will look once more toward your holy Temple.’(Jonah 2:4 NLT)
In this verse Jonah cried out with a sincere heart to God explaining that even though God had driven Jonah away from his presence he was still with him. Jonah always reminded himself to look once more toward Gods holy temple for help. When we are in trouble we can always look to God for he is our waymaker.

Before the people of Nineveh could be brought to repentance, first he had to get Jonah to repent. Sometimes God has to take some things out of us first before he can use us. He spent 3 days in the belly of the fish because God had to get ahold of him. God could have let Jonah die after being thrown into the sea but out of his mercy caused Jonah to be swallowed up by the fish. Somtimes we just need a check up from the neck up to bring us to repentance. Before we can help others we need to evaluate ourselves first.

God knows what it takes to get our attention! What we call affliction, God calls chastising. A father that doesn’t care about his children will not try to hinder there walk towards hell.
We have a loving Father, always pulling and reaching and disturbing our comfort. Why?! Because he loves us and His will is for us to repent.
We have heard many times that if the only time we pray is when we find ourselves in trouble we have failed to build a relationship with God. If we compare a normal human relationship with what we should have with God; what kind of friend would we be if we only communicate with people when we are in trouble. What about all the small talk? Just checking in to see if you are having a good day. A non-solicited “I Love You” and “Thank You”. I understand that God is not our bestie but we should strive for a communication level with God that at least matches communications we have with other people in our lives.
