Zechariah 4

And the angel that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep.

And said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof:

And two olive trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof.

So I answered and spake to the angel that talked with me, saying, What are these, my lord?

Then the angel that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord.

Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.

Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.

Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me unto you.

10 For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the Lord, which run to and fro through the whole earth.

11 Then answered I, and said unto him, What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof?

12 And I answered again, and said unto him, What be these two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out of themselves?

13 And he answered me and said, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord.

14 Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.

  1. Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.” (The seven lamps represent the eyes of the Lord that search all around the world.)
    Zechariah 4:10 NLT

Our God rejoices at just the thought of being reconciled with His people. He rejoiced with anticipation when the work of rebuilding the temple was still in the conception phase. He didn’t rejoice over judging the wayward; He did what His Holiness demanded, but He got excited when judgement was complete and restoration could begin. In fact, there is joy in all of Heaven when just one sinner repents. All of Heaven anticipates the completion of that sinner’s journey back to communion with God.

Our God also delights in mercy. Thus, we see that He has emotions, and they are affected by our relationship with Him. We can give God joy by being in right relationship with and by fellowshipping Him. We can make His day by entering into His presence and becoming one with Him. As the man rejoices with anticipation when the apple of his eye says “Yes” to his marriage proposal, so God receives great joy when we begin our journey to intimacy with Him.

When You set aside a place in your house for prayer, God gets excited. When you enter into that place and close the door, He becomes delighted. Who are we, that He should be so mindful of us? We are His peculiar treasure, those on whom He has set His affection; and we can bless His day by turning our affection wholeheartedly unto Him. He anxiously awaits us in our place of prayer. Shall we make His day today?

  2. 13 Then he answered me and said, do you not know what these are?” And I said no my Lord, So he said, these are the two anointed ones who stand beside the Lord of the whole earth.

  3. 6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.
7 Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.

By our strength nor by our power but by the very Spirit of the Living God that spoke to this man is also speaking to us telling us that he will make every mountain in our way flat. There is such a power in being determined to do the will of God. When we are and at the same mine I’m doing the same thing why the will of God there’s nothing that can stand in our way and stop us or over come us! I believe we have so much more inside of us than what we think. The spirit of the same God that was with these man is inside of us directing us to do his will, and has given us the ability to do it without failing.

  4. 7 lamps with 7 pipes, and 7 eyes that look to and fro. Do you think is a coinsidence that there is 7 days in a week? 7 continents? My dad used to say there are no coincidences with God!!!! I am happy He lights our way and watches over us at all times.

6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.

For He is MIGHTY!!!’ And He gave us POWER through the Holy Ghost!! His Spirit lives in us and through His Spirit and His Power we have the VICTORY!!!

  5. 6 …The Eternal, Commander of heavenly armies, has said this to Zerubbabel: “Your strength and prowess will not be enough to finish My temple, but My Spirit will be… Voice

There are so many things that we can’t do on our own, but the good news is God doesn’t ask us to; He gave us His Spirit to help us.

    Acts 1:8
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. KJV

  6. 6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith theLord of hosts.

If we are to accomplish anything, if we are to achieve anything it will be by the power and might of God. We need not trust in our ability, might or intellect but in God’s spirit.

  7. Zechariah 4:10 (English Amp) Who [ with reason] despises the day of small things ? For these seven shall rejoice when they see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel . [ These seven] are the eyes of the Lord which run to and fro thoughtout the whole earth. God forgives us 70 times 7= 490 times a day. There are seven Spirits of God . There are 7 seals that were break open. There was a Lamb standing as of it was slain, with seven horns.and seven eyes, which are seven Spirits of God, The seven fold Holy Spirit. Thank you Jesus for being my saviour.

  8. Zechariah 4:3-5
3 And two olive trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof.
4 So I answered and spake to the angel that talked with me, saying, What are these, my lord?
5 Then the angel that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord.

  9. “Don’t you know?”

the angel asked. “No, my Lord,” I replied. Then he said to me, “This is what the Lord says to Zerubbabel: It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.
    Zechariah 4:5‭-‬6 NLT

    Mercy

Without His Spirit dwelling in me, i am nothing…spiritually dead!

  10. 6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.

10 For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the Lord, which run to and fro through the whole earth.

  11. I was curious after reading this scripture

“Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.”
    ‭‭Zechariah‬ ‭4:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Zerubbabel was the head of the tribe of Judah during the time of the return from the Babylon exile. He was the prime builder of the second Temple, which was later re-constructed by King Herod. He led the first group of captives back to Jerusalem and began rebuilding the Temple on the old site. For some 20 years he was closely associated with prophets, priests, and kings until the new Temple was dedicated and the Jewish sacrificial system was re-established.

Zerubbabel was over the tribe of Judah, we know that Judah means praise. The scripture says not by might not by power but by GODS spirit.
When we praise God what is it doing? It’s turning the situation into a God situation.
When we worship God what are we doing? It’s getting the presence of God moving.
So when we Praise Gods spirit is in the area we are praising and thy is what CONQUERS all.

There was a reason that was shared with Zerubbabel considering he was over Judah(praise).

We could dig some more on this stuff either way there’s a little bit of history there.

The Eyes of the Lord Run
10 For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the Lord, which run to and fro through the whole earth.

According to the scripture the Lord has seven eyes and they run throughout the whole earth. Now I know this sounds strange to some, but there is actually great understanding in the Word to explain the context of this scripture.

    Isaiah 11:2  And the (1)spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the (2)spirit of wisdom and (3)understanding, the (4)spirit of counsel and (5)might, the (6)spirit of knowledge and of the (7)fear of the LORD;

In the above scripture I have numbered the 7 eyes of the Lord. These are not literal eyes, but the eye lets light into the body. We are the body of Christ and we need to allow the 7 eyes of the Lord to come upon us and give us “revelation” into the deep things of God.

  13. Zachariah 4
6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.

    RUACH.
A Hebrew word meaning “wind” or “spirit”. In its prophetic form as Ruach HaKodesh it is derived from the Talmud equating Divine Inspiration (Ruach haKodesh), and a Divine Voice [1] as the word used to refer to the Spirit of God, or Holy Spirit,

When we are at some of our weakest moments in life God ‘s reassurance is that it is by His Spirit .
He breathes life into you. His Holy Inspiration that will intervene will sweep through you .
Arrogance , self righteousness, and idolatry come in submission when we realize our strength comes only from the Spirit of God.

    Acts 1:8
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

    I Samuel 17:45
Then said David to the Philistine, “Thou comest to me with a sword and with a spear and with a shield; but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.

  14. 4:6,7 MSG this is God’s Messege to Zerubbabel:
“ You cant force these things, they only come about
Through my Spirit says God-of-the angel armies., so big
Mountain , who do you think you are? Next to Zerubbabel you are nothing but a molehill,. He’ll proceed to set the Cornerstone in place, acompany by cheers

  15. Do not despise those Small Beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand”….
    Zechariah 4:10 NLT

This is something the are younger Generations has not understand. There’s a beginning and a process that has to happen before we obtain a goal.
The microwave mentality as our pastor has mentioned.

  16. 6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.

They key words are “by My Spirit”. It is not by our hands, but by God’s Spirit that anything is accomplished. When living for God and working in His kingdom, we must determine in our minds to not trust in our own strengths and abilities, but to put our hope in Him and work in the power of His Spirit!

    Not by might
    Not by power
    By your spirit God
    Send your spirit God
    You are the fire
    We are the temple
    Your are the voice
    We are your song
    You are our God
    We are your people
    You are the light
    We stand in awe
We stand in awe of you
We stand in awe of you
Not by might (not by might)
    Not by power
    By your spirit God
    Send your spirit God

    Not by might
    Not by power
    By your spirit God
    Send your spirit God
    You called us out
    Out of the darkness
    Into your love
    Into your light
    Grace upon grace
    Beauty for ashes
    You come to us
    We come alive
We stand in awe of you
We stand in awe of you
Not by might (not by might)
Not by power (not by power)
By your spirit God (by your spirit God)

  17. 1 And the angel that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep.
2 And said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof:
3 And two olive trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof.
4 So I answered and spake to the angel that talked with me, saying, What are these, my lord?
5 Then the angel that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord.

I love the humility in this chapter, but also the depth. The Lord our God sends a message angel that is equipped with His Revelation and gives Zechariah vision of His great joy- rebuilding the temple. The Lord keeps His prophet humble. The angel continues to ask him “Don’t you know?” This is a constant reminder of our feebleness and our need for Him. We can have so much going good but that can only get us so far. Might and power can only get us so far, but by HIS SPIRIT we are carried through and great things are done.
And I love how this Revelation was so profound and yet so sweetly given. God had the angel give Zechariah the vision and asked him what he saw. And then asked don’t you know what this means? Like a child in a new world. New images, many questions. He didn’t know what this meant. His frail human condition. He was graciously reminded he is just the servant. First the vision was cast and then through communion (prayer and seeking) was the revelation and understanding given. This happened twice where he was taken by the hand into a deeper understanding of what God had planned. He was atuned to the Lord and so the Lord was able to share the things on His heart. Lord, help us to seek you everyday and have our hearts tuned with Yours. In Jesus name. THY KINGDOM COME.

  18. Then he said to me, “This is what the Lord says to Zerubbabel: It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.
    Zechariah 4:6 NLT
It’s not by military might or the force of many or by individual strength or abilities that gets the job done in the kingdom but we must rely totally upon the Spirit of God! Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
    Psalms 127:1 KJV
We are laborers together with God but He is in charge! He is the Head of the body of Christ! If we ever think that we have done it, we risk getting a haughty spirit and then taking a fall. God gives the increase to all our labors wether it be planting or watering or harvesting or birthing. Therefore to God be the glory! We are just instruments in His hands and when we are used, we must be sure to give him the praise! No wonder the psalmist said,
Not unto us, O Lord , not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth’s sake.
    Psalms 115:1 KJV

  19. THY KINGDOM COME
    SUPERNATURAL

6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.

Our feeble human efforts often leave us frustrated and disappointed. However when we pray, we often hear this response from the LORD. It is not by our own intellect, education or conditioning.

For the SUPERnatural we need HIS Spirit. Seeking the Kingdom of GOD first we find our most effective efforts are evidenced when we PRAY in the SPIRIT.

Praying in the Holy Ghost (praying in other tongues) is Kingdom praying. Praying in the SPIRIT transforms us from the Natural to the Supernatural and thrusts us into HIS Kingdom.

When we PRAY we should not spend our time “telling” JESUS what we want, but we should invest our time in praying HIS will.

  20. 6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.

There are many circumstances in life that we overcome by the spirit of the Lord. Some things we can’t just do by ourselves. God heals when the Dr says there’s no hope, he delivers those bound by Satan’s strongholds, he liberates the captive that is trapped and he saves when we give ourselves to him through obedience to his word. So turn it over to Him and praise Him no matter the situation of life and watch our God work it out.

  21. 11 Then I asked the angel, “What are these two olive trees on each side of the lampstand, 12 and what are the two olive branches that pour out golden oil through two gold tubes?”

13 “Don’t you know?” he asked.

“No, my lord,” I replied. NLT

We read this scenario a couple times through the chapter.
    “What is this?”
    “Don’t you know?”
    “No, my lord.”

We do not have to have it all figured out or know it all to be used in the Kingdom.
We can read that he humble asked and than admitted he didn’t know.

Don’t be deceived into thinking that once you get to a certain level you’ll have it all figured out and won’t need help cause in vs 6 we read its not by might but by His Spirit.

    Proverbs 3:5-6
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

  22. 1 And the angel that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep.

Zechariah said “as a man that is wakened” which hints to me, he may not have actually been sleeping. Maybe he was spiritually dozing off, getting comfy; maybe he was getting a little tired; maybe he was getting weak – who knows! Regardless, we all need spiritual awakening!! “My soul is longing, my heart is searching. I’m desperate for You to move. Give me a hunger, pull me closer
I’m cryin’ out to You! Awaken my heart, awaken my soul, awaken Your power and take control awaken the passion to live for You Lord. Awaken me!!”

6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.

We don’t need physical might or power to carry on, what we need is the Spirit of God. By Your Spirit God awaken us and stir us up and give us strength. God let Your Spirit breathe on us! Lord “I want to be lost in Your presence. I want to be closer to Your heart. I want to be consumed by Your Spirit!!” If we are daily walking in the Spirit, that means God is always with us and no matter the might or power we have or that’s against us, all we need is the Spirit of God. Let Your Spirit be our daily, number one desire; let Your Spirit daily awaken us and lead us Lord!!

  23. Zechariah 4:6, “Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.”

It’s the Spirit of God (the Holy Ghost living in us) that gives us the strength and power to Do and Accomplish things for HIS KINGDOM.

  24. Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.

  25. 4 Then I asked the angel, “What are these, my lord? What do they mean?” 5“Don’t you know?” the angel asked. “No, my lord,” I replied.

What a sad picture it will be. When God will ask each person, “Don’t you know who I am”. Many will reply “No, I don’t”.

Many will realize there is a God whose name is Jesus. They will realize the mistake they had made. God in return will probably say, “I don’t know you either”. Make sure you know God, and he will know you.

  26. AMP –

    Zechariah 4 Amplified Bible (AMP)

The Golden Lampstand and Olive Trees

4 And the angel who was speaking with me came back and awakened me, like a man who is awakened out of his sleep. 2 He said to me, “What do you see?” I said, “I see, and behold, a [a]lampstand all of gold, with its bowl [for oil] on the top of it and its seven lamps on it with seven spouts belonging to each of the lamps which are on the top of it. 3 And there are two olive trees by it, one on the right side of the bowl and the other on its left side [supplying it continuously with oil].” 4 So I asked the angel who was speaking with me, “What are these, my lord?” 5 Then the angel who was speaking with me answered me, “Do you not know what these are?” And I said, “No, my lord.” 6 Then he said to me, “This [continuous supply of oil] is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel [prince of Judah], saying, ‘Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit [of whom the oil is a symbol],’ says the Lord of hosts. 7 ‘What are you, O great mountain [of obstacles]? Before Zerubbabel [who will rebuild the temple] you will become a plain (insignificant)! And he will bring out the capstone [of the new temple] with loud shouts of “Grace, grace to it!”’”

The continuous supply of oil to our lives is the WORD of God. Whatever we set our minds to we are able to achieve by the Spirit of the Lord. It is nothing within us, not our might, not our power, but the Lord. When we keep that in our thinking, it would save us so much time.

  27. 6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.

Everyday let me hear the things of the spirit and not the flesh let my mind and soul be all in one accord in full faith and power. Let all fear be gone when I go in outreach mode in Jesus name!

  28. Verse 6 AMP “Then he said to me, “This [continuous supply of oil] is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel [prince of Judah], saying, ‘Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit [of whom the oil is a symbol],’ says the Lord of hosts.”

Philippians 2:13 AMP “For it is [not your strength, but it is] [a]God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure.”

  29. 6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.

It is by His Spirit that we are saved. When He comes in and dwells inside of us. We are his children, his bride, his beloved. We are His and He is our God.

  30. Not by might , not by power . By your Spirit God send your Spirt . Come like a mighty rushing wind. Let us not despise the small beginning . But guide us . Thy Kingdom Come Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven .

  31. Zechariah 4:6

Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.

Every once and a while God has to remind us of this fact. As a read this passage, it reminds me of the story of David.

I have always wondered how hard he threw the stone. David was a master at the sling shot. But if we pay close attention, Goliath did t fall backwards, he fell face forward. This is God’s way of keep us humble. When we think we have the ability to do anything, God is knocking out our enemy.

No matter how able you are, God should always get the glory!

  32. 11 Then I asked the angel, “What are these two olive trees on the right and the left of the lampstand?”

Im order to have anointing we must stand on the Word.

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalms 119:105

We must always read His Word and listen to His voice! This goes back to obidience….if we obey His Word there is reward in our obidience.
    Obidience=Anointing

  33. Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.

Our investment in the Kingsom of God is just a test to see if he can trust us with His investment. We put our power and might in and he invests his spirit. It can be done with out us but it cannot be done without Him. As we grow and find success we have to alway remember this. By him All things consist.

  34. Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.” (The seven lamps represent the eyes of the Lord that search all around the world.)
    Zechariah 4:10 NLT

We should not take for granted the small beginnings. The key is that the Lord rejoices to see the work begin. And then by His Spirit. We cannot do a work without God. It takes a humble and small start with a Mighty God who empowers us by His Spirit to do great and mighty exploits in the Kingdom. Again the key is to start, to go, to do.

  35. 10 For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the Lord, which run to and fro through the whole earth.

God sees everything that happens around the entire world! The big and the small. He knows all things. Which is why we should follow His commandments and place His word in our hearts. It’s what is best for us.

  36. 6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.

    DADDY ALWAYS GETS THE GLORY!!!

  37. And the angel that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep.

The prophet’s spirit was willing to attend, but the flesh was weak. We should beg of God that, whenever he speaks to us, he would awaken us, and we should then stir up ourselves. The church is a golden candlestick, or lamp-bearer, set up for enlightening this dark world, and holding forth the light of Divine revelation. Two olive trees were seen, one on each side the candlestick, from which oil flowed into the bowl without ceasing. God brings to pass his gracious purposes concerning his church, without any art or labour of man; sometimes he makes use of his instruments, yet he needs them not. This represented the abundance of Divine grace, for the enlightening and making holy the ministers and members of the church, and which cannot be procured or prevented by any human power. The vision assures us that the good work of building the temple, should be brought to a happy end. The difficulty is represented as a great mountain. But all difficulties shall vanish, and all the objections be got over. Faith will remove mountains, and make them plains. Christ is our Zerubbabel; mountains of difficulty were in the way of his undertaking, but nothing is too hard for him. What comes from the grace of God, may, in faith, be committed to the grace of God, for he will not forsake the work of his own hands.

  38. 6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.

The Spirit of God will always be a force no thing like might no power can match with. Might and power were words invented to describe the God we serve. By His Spirit all things are in existence. Nothing is here that was not designed by his word. He spoke life and it existed lucifer invented sin, and rebellion but God knew it would come to pass before he even created him. The same way he knew Jesus would die for our sins way before Even bite the fruit of the garden. It’s like God’s doings have cried aloud to Zerubbabel that all these visions shall come to an end, not effected by human might nor in fleshly strength, but in power of the Holy Spirit and through His Will.
