Colossians 2

For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh;

That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;

In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.

For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ.

As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:

Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

18 Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,

19 And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.

20 Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,

21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not;

22 Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?

23 Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body: not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.

  1. 9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

I have found that without God all things are impossible. Without him we are lost and doomed to eternity filled with torment. I find that the scripture Paul is writing to the church so much more relates to the church today. In Him dwells the fullness of the Godhead. He was man yet he was God. He wanGod but clothed himself in flesh to come down off the throne of grace to circumcise the flesh to save a wretched souls such as I. Through the infilling of the Holy Ghost he has given the power over the spiritual wickedness and principalities of this world. He has given us grace and mercy to be overcomers by being buried in his name through baptism and becoming dead to the old man. Being raised from the death of sin as we are covered by the blood.

I am thankful today that I can give him my faith, I can give him my praise, I can give him my all in all, and I can give him my everything no matter what.

    I give you glory (hey!)
    I give you praise (hey!)
‘Cause my enemy (did not triumph)

I am thankful for a Church that still believes in taking it to the enemy while preaching the gospel of Jesus.

    Seek first the Kingdom!

    I love the Kingdom!

  2. In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

4 And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.

6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:

7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

Verse 3 looks like an awesome scripture to take into 2019 with our theme seek ye first the kingdom of God and we will find the treasures of wisdom and knowledge and become rooted and build up in him to be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that shall not be moved in the last days

  3. Colossians 2:13 (amp)
As I was praying this morning, a thought came to mind, and I said, “LORD, you can take anything that’s “dead” and make it “alive” again.”
Then I read this beautiful scripture this morning, “When you were “dead” in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh (worldliness, manner of life), God made you “alive” together with Christ, having (freely) forgiven us all our sins.

Thank You JESUS that when I was “dead” in my sins, YOU forgave me of all my sins and made me “alive” in YOU!!

  4. Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

It’s so easy to get swept away with Words! I need to be swept away with the Word Of God, The truth! Not mans perception of truth, what they think the truth is! WHAT I KNOW TRUTH IS! I trust My Pastor, to tell it straight. that he understands that hes responsible to WATCH for my soul, But it’s my responsibility to read. and study so I am responsible for my salvation! It’s my responsibility to pray, seek and build a relationship with God, Pastor teaches us how! If I have Christ In my Life. then I have Everything I need. be ause He is Everything , God, HolyGhost,Jesus! He is Everything!

  6. ““Don’t handle! Don’t taste! Don’t touch!”?”
    ‭‭Colossians‬ ‭2:21‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I had something completely different in mind until I seen this scripture.
In the chapter it’s talking about worldly rules, but I’m thinking we take these and make them a spiritual rule for the Kingdom.
Sin for instance. You don’t want to handle sin, you don’t even wanna taste sin, and you definitely don’t wanna touch sin.
Temptation will always come and go, and I’ve also learned if you keep overcoming temptation you’re more than likely gonna be Tempted by your second stronghold, if thy one don’t make you fall you’re more than likely gonna be hit with the 3rd so on and so on.
When I say strongholds I’m talking about things that adversary tries to use against you to make you fall.
The first time you do any of these 3 rules…congratulations you’ve just entertained probably one of the worst things you could have. Now your whole family is praying for ya, and ya pastor, and ya pastors wife, and so on and so on.
The highway of sin has many exits, but every time you choose to fall in to sin the faster your car goes and the harder these exits are to take.

So don’t handle, don’t taste, and don’t touch!

  7. You must be careful who you listen so that you are not deceived. Everything that sounds and looks good is not of God. We must have our feet planted on solid ground. Don’t allow the things of this world to move you.

  8. 9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

In grammar this is know as a double negative. All the Fulness!

Grammatically the all is not needed to complete the sentence.

Theologically, is make a positive, and reinforces the writers point. This is also a special self-explained verse, that debunks the false doctrine of the trinity. Without the writer mentioning it, he basically said, In Jesus dwells physically All of the complete Godhead.

  9. 3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
4 And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.

We need to be careful who and what we allowed to speak into our lives and remain guarded from anything that sounds enticing or too good. Keeping your mind on Christ at all times and standing firm in the gospel is essential that way whenever something enticing comes along we are able to resist the devil will flee.

  10. 14 He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. (NLT)

Glory! How could I do anything but worship Him? How could I choose anything over living for Him? “I’ll never know how much it cost to see my sin upon that cross.”

  11. Verses 6-7 MSG “My counsel for you is simple and straightforward: Just go ahead with what you’ve been given. You received Christ Jesus, the Master; now live him. You’re deeply rooted in him. You’re well constructed upon him. You know your way around the faith. Now do what you’ve been taught. School’s out; quit studying the subject and start living it! And let your living spill over into thanksgiving.” Same verses AMP “Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in [union with] Him [reflecting His character in the things you do and say—living lives that lead others away from sin], having been deeply rooted [in Him] and now being continually built up in Him and [becoming increasingly more] established [e]in your faith, just as you were taught, and overflowing in it with gratitude.” Same verses CEV “You have accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord. Now keep on following him. Plant your roots in Christ and let him be the foundation for your life. Be strong in your faith, just as you were taught. And be grateful.” Give Him your faith….we heard it last night. We must also stay deeply rooted by searching the scriptures in what we know is truth, so that we will not easily fall into deception. God honors those who search the scriptures as we learned yesterday in Sunday School.

  12. I want them to be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love. I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God’s mysterious plan, which is Christ himself. In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
    Colossians 2:2‭-‬3 NLT
Here we see Paul’s desire for the church to be:
    1. Encouraged or with courage because without courage you will not fight for yourself or others.
    2. Closely knit together with strong ties of love- love for God and each other. The church is unlike a business in this regard because its members are committed to each other and it’s not just a job. “This church is built on love on love, that’s what it’s all about!”
    3. Understand God’s plan which is Christ in you, the hope of glory!
Next, he says you can find all the wisdom and knowledge you need in Jesus Christ! You don’t have to look anywhere else but to Him.

  13. Colossians 2
8 Beware lest anyone [e]cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead [f]bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all [g]principality and power.

    Completed in Him
The world has religious traditions they follow sporadically. Inconsistent lifestyle of a religious belief. Empty traditions. It’s a inconsistent way of life because it was a traditional ceremonious part of their life growing up. When we become complete in Jesus Christ through the infilling of the Holy Ghost their is such a change that comes to your life. It’s no longer a ritual a traditional way of serving just a mere god. But it becomes about serving God. Complete in Him . How befitting the next scripture tells us that in Christ the fullness of the Godhead dwells. There it is a complete proclamation God is God in everything. He has all power. If I truly believe that He has saved me and scripture say I’m complete in Him where does that leave me right in the midst of His amazing grace and love . Paul was wanting the people to realize they could live in the power of the Holy Ghost. Back to the beginning scriptures don’t let anyone cheat you . This goes for us the church we must not allow anyone to sway us from truth. This world friends family and enemy will try to
fill your mind with philosophy and doubt but it is up to you to hold fast to your faith . Know what you believe hold it close to your heart. Don’t let anyone take it from you.

    Romans 15:13
13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

The answer to be not following after this world but after a God that fills us with so much more than this world . It has to go deeper than traditions it has to be deep rooted to last. I must be saved above anything else. Thank you for the Word thank you for truth and thank you for daily growth through Your Power Lord. Complete in You Lord.

  14. 6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:

7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

It’s not wise to follow great speakers and charismatic teachers unless they speak the truth in the word and that they rightly divide the word. There are preachers today that can expound the word, give definitions and completely not teach the truth nor salvation. Unfortunately they have huge followings and are televised, so we must get our heads in the Bible and read it, follow the messages Pastor teaches and look up the passages and get the word of truth deep in our hearts and minds so we are deceived and led away. There is only one Lord, one faith and one baptism, one God and Father of all…

  15. 5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ.

As a parent one thing that I try to teach my children is to be true to your character. The principles and boundaries that are setup in the Crockett home apply outside the Crockett home as well.

Others may do and others may say but Crocketts don’t do it that way. Paul is telling them I may not be physically with you but what I’ve taught you is. So, from time to time I check in on you and find joy in knowing your enduring and have anchored yourself in the faith.

Many times I am the proudest of my children when they stay true to the rhythm and heartbeat of our home instead of going with the crowd.

I can only imagine how God feels when His children endure and walk by faith and not by sight.

  16. Colossians 2: 6-7 (Amp) As you have therefore received Christ, [ even] Jesus the Lord , [so] walk ( regulate your lives and conduct yourselves ) in union with and conduct yourselves in union with and conformity to him. [7] Have the roots [ of your being firmly and deeply planted [ in Him, fixed and founded in Him], being continually, build up in Him, becoming increasingly more confirmed and established in the faith, just as you were taught, and abounding and over flowing in it with thanksgiving. As Paul is teaching us to look up in our bible’s and get rooted deep into the word of truth increasing more knowledge and established more faith. Up up your mind and heart , rejoicing in his word. Faith cometh by hearing , And hearing comes by word of God. ” Wow what a message that we heard last night .’ Give him your faith”. Give it all to Jesus.Dont be deceived , Be your house on him.

  17. “Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.”
    ‭‭Colossians‬ ‭2:6-7‬ ‭ESV‬‬

we must remember the joy we had when we were first saved. The joy of our salvation is key to many things. We should enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise. Always be grateful and think upon the things that God has done for you.

  18. I want you to know how much I have agonized for you and for the church at Laodicea, and for many other believers who have never met me personally.
    Colossians 2:1 NLT

Because of this one verse, no one should ever be able to say that they can’t think of enough to say to fill an hour with prayer. Once we have prayed for our church, pastor, leadership, family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, city, nation, government, missionaries, backsliders, visitors, new converts, and the lost; if there be any time left, we can pray for (even agonize over) all the churches and believers we’ve never met. As such, an inability to enter into prolonged prayer is more a problem of burden and discipline than a problem with not having enough to say. Moreover, there are many prayer helps and lists that can aid us in knowing how to pray for others, and we have the Spirit within us to anoint and lead us into passionate intercessory prayer. As such, we can and should all be people of prayer; we just have to discipline ourselves to actually do so.

  19. AMP – 5 For even though I am absent [from you] in body, nevertheless I am with you in spirit, [d]delighted to see your good discipline [as you stand shoulder to shoulder and form a solid front] and to see the stability of your faith in Christ [your steadfast reliance on Him and your unwavering confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness].

When you see a group of Army men standing in formation, they are in sync, in line, not physically shoulder to shoulder, but in attitude and action shoulder to shoulder. This is how the body of Christ should be. United, in sync physically, spiritually and emotionally The synchronization of the team brings a synergy, unity that cannot be broken and could be heard if someone breaks the unity.

Our desire going into 2019 is that POFW would experience such synergy that it would draw all those on the sidelines into step with the entire body. Imagine what God could/would do through us when we all seek FIRST THE KINGDOM together!

  20. iLove the Kingdom

Col 2:3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Col 2:4 And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.

This scripture is extremely important when you really meditate on it. Think about it, in Jesus is “hid” all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. This treasure is found when we seek Him with all our hearts. The issue comes in when folks take others so called “revelations” and run with them. This is why Paul warns that we should not let any man “beguile” us with enticing words. We should dig into the Word for ourselves and receive the treasure for ourselves.

  21. “For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you and for those [believers] at Laodicea, and for all who [like yourselves] have never seen me face to face. [For my hope is] that their hearts may be encouraged as they are knit together in [unselfish] love, so that they may have all the riches that come from the full assurance of understanding [the joy of salvation], resulting in a true [and more intimate] knowledge of the mystery of God, that is, Christ,”
    ‭‭COLOSSIANS‬ ‭2:1-2‬ ‭AMP‬‬
    http://bible.com/1588/col.2.1-2.amp

This is my prayer for POFW! That we be knit together in unselfish love and have a full understanding of the joy of salvation and knowledge of the mystery of God! I pray for unity for our church.

  22. FIRST THE KINGDOM
    STRONG FINISH

6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

Life is filled with opportunities and options. We are blessed and cursed with many voices in our lives. But, a great value in as we Seek FIRST The Kingdom of GOD is that we have placed HIS voice FIRST in our lives. When HIS voice is FIRST then our will is subject to HIS will and we will judge all other voices by what HE has said. “The BIBLE”.

This chapter seems to repeat to me that importance of a STRONG FINISH. On Sunday our focus was to Finish 2018 STRONG. But let’s not stop there. Understanding the importance and value of a STRONG FINISH to each year, each month, each week, each day and even each opportunity.

    How?

Walk in Christ JESUS. Do everything HE says.
Keep JESUS your source (rooted) and continue building on your FAITH
    Maintain a teachable attitude
Demonstrate the attitude of Thanksgiving all days not just one on a calendar
    Don’t be spoiled… by others….
Evaluate traditions vs convictions traditions are from man and convictions are from the word of GOD.
KNOW the King of The KINGDOM. JESUS is the fulness of the Godhead in body form.
Accept and understand that we are COMPLETE in HIM. No surgery needed, no special effects needed, no special attention needed.

We FINISH STRONG with JESUS. HE is the HEAD or top of all principality and power. Meaning whatever we do for and or in HIM we will be STRONG in the LORD and the Power of HIS might.

  23. “When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh (worldliness, manner of life), God made you alive together with Christ, having [freely] forgiven us all our sins, having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of legal demands [which were in force] against us and which were hostile to us. And this certificate He has set aside and completely removed by nailing it to the cross.”
    ‭‭COLOSSIANS‬ ‭2:13-14‬ ‭AMP‬‬

It was through the cross that the door was opened for us to walk out of the kingdom of darkness and into the Kingdom of light.

He carved the way for all the lost when He died on that cross. And with His blood that was shed, we have been set free from sin.

“to open their [spiritual] eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness and release from their sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified (set apart, made holy) by faith in Me.’”
    ‭‭ACTS‬ ‭26:18‬ ‭AMP‬‬

  24. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.
    Colossians 2:7 NLT

I’m reminded of the power of seeds. The seed that was sown on good soil was able to take root, whereas the other circumstance the seed was stolen away or choked out. I see this as a double part that plays into each other. The Word of God needs fertile soil to take root in AND at the same time we need the solid foundation of God’s Word to be our anchor as we drive down deep roots so that we may flourish.

  25. 5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ

Thank you Jesus for being with us

  26. 7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

A tree with short and shallow roots can be easily blown over with a strong wind and uprooted. Once uprooted it will slowly die without the nutrients in the soil and access to water. But a tree with strong roots that are deep in the ground cannot be uprooted and will grow strong. That’s why reading God’s word and studying the word is so important for us. The more we know about the Word the less we will be swayed by people with fancy speech and ideas.

  27. Colossians 2
17b) but the body is of Christ
    19) ….the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.

  28. 6 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. 7 Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.

We have to grow downwards before we grow upward. We have to grow in Him first before we do the next step. We have to be rooted so we won’t let the storms of this life throw us down. When we are rooted it’s very hard for the enemy to knock us down. He will still attack us but not destroy us.

  29. “Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.”(Colossians‬ ‭2:7‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

We have to devote ourselves to him in order to have our roots grow down in him. We must build our lives on his word in order to have a strong foundation. If we devote everything about ourselves to our Savior our Faith in us will grow stronger in the truth that we been taught.

  30. 2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;
3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

    There’s buried Treasure.

Wisdom and knowledge. You have to be seeking for them. They dont just pop out of no where. You have to be actively seeking for knowledge and wisdom. How do we seek for it? We must read the Word of God, and we must pray for direction in where we can find it. For His Kingdom to be First we must seek for the wisdom and knowledge of how to grow the Kingdom of God.

  31. 8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Many people loose their way, because they have not studied the word, and built a relationship with Christ. We must study The Word, and teach others who He is.

  32. 8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ

Everything we hear we need to make sure it alings with the Word. The word of God must be what guides us in every area of our lives

  33. 3In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

This wisdom and knowledge is available to you. Through prayer God will give you wisdom to make right choices. He’ll give you an understanding and patience during trials.

  34. That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;
