Acts 28

And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Melita.

And the barbarous people shewed us no little kindness: for they kindled a fire, and received us every one, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.

And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand.

And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.

And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm.

Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.

In the same quarters were possessions of the chief man of the island, whose name was Publius; who received us, and lodged us three days courteously.

And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.

So when this was done, others also, which had diseases in the island, came, and were healed:

10 Who also honoured us with many honours; and when we departed, they laded us with such things as were necessary.

11 And after three months we departed in a ship of Alexandria, which had wintered in the isle, whose sign was Castor and Pollux.

12 And landing at Syracuse, we tarried there three days.

13 And from thence we fetched a compass, and came to Rhegium: and after one day the south wind blew, and we came the next day to Puteoli:

14 Where we found brethren, and were desired to tarry with them seven days: and so we went toward Rome.

15 And from thence, when the brethren heard of us, they came to meet us as far as Appii forum, and The three taverns: whom when Paul saw, he thanked God, and took courage.

16 And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him.

17 And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together: and when they were come together, he said unto them, Men and brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.

18 Who, when they had examined me, would have let me go, because there was no cause of death in me.

19 But when the Jews spake against it, I was constrained to appeal unto Caesar; not that I had ought to accuse my nation of.

20 For this cause therefore have I called for you, to see you, and to speak with you: because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.

21 And they said unto him, We neither received letters out of Judaea concerning thee, neither any of the brethren that came shewed or spake any harm of thee.

22 But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against.

23 And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.

24 And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.

25 And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,

26 Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:

27 For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

28 Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.

29 And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves.

30 And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him,

31 Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.

  1. 26 Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:

The light of Christ is given to mankinds heart as a measure of faith. It is by a conscious effort, that the unbelieving heart has grown dull of hearing and questions the evidence of an almighty creator. The Lord has a plan of salvation, and the Jews rejection of Jesus provide a way for the Gentiles to receive the promises of God.

  2. 28. He enjoyed a considerable measure of liberty. Preaching the Kingdom of God and teaching the things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ with all confidence, no one forbidding him.

  3. The people of the island saw it hanging from his hand and said to each other, “A murderer, no doubt! Though he escaped the sea, justice will not permit him to live.”
Acts of the Apostles 28:4 NLT

Not everything that happens to us is for a reason, People are inclined to believe that everything is a sign or Or when something bad happens that it’s God’s judgment, whenever it’s just life.. Instead of being quick to judge a situation situation only gods but have common sense come on stand by and see. I am just as guilty of it at times But I have to learn how to take a step back and evaluate it . And just like the same when dealing with people who are quick to judge something, we need to we Don’t always need to be quick to defend ourselves but instead allow God oh God to feel otherwise

  4. 28 Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.

    Amen!
    Salvation is available to all!
    Hallelujah!
    Thank You Jesus!

  5. Verses 1-2 MSG “Once everyone was accounted for and we realized we had all made it, we learned that we were on the island of Malta. The natives went out of their way to be friendly to us. The day was rainy and cold and we were already soaked to the bone, but they built a huge bonfire and gathered us around it.” And also verses 7-9 MSG “The head man in that part of the island was Publius. He took us into his home as his guests, drying us out and putting us up in fine style for the next three days. Publius’s father was sick at the time, down with a high fever and dysentery. Paul went to the old man’s room, and when he laid hands on him and prayed, the man was healed. Word of the healing got around fast, and soon everyone on the island who was sick came and got healed.” These verses reminded me of what we heard Wednesday night, if we can prepare our house (ourselves/temple of God, our own heart/soul/mind) then we are ready and only then to receive others with the love of Jesus. These natives and Publius were ready to receive perfect strangers and actually invite them into their homes. What resulted were the blessings, the healings and the knowledge of who was behind it all….Jesus! Be GREATER and once again take care of your house; so your home can be blessed.

  6. 30 And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him,

31 Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him

  7. 4. And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.

    10. Who also honoured us with many honours; and when we departed, they laded us with such things as were necessary.

    From Accusations to Accolades…
When we allow God to work in our lives, he can take us from people thinking terrible things about us to a place of honor among those same people.

  8. Acts 28: 30-31 And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house ,and received all that came in unto him.
    31) Preaching the kingdom of God ,and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.
Paul was technically a prisoner, but lived in his own hired house, and preached concerning the kingdom of God.
Bless the Lord, O my soul ,and forget not all his benefits.
    In Jesus name.

  9. Acts of the Apostles 28:31
Boldly proclaiming the Kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ. And no one tried to stop him.

We need to talk to people about Jesus and all the wonderful things he has done. He is our hope and strength.

  10. The Romans tried me and wanted to release me, because they found no cause for the death sentence. But when the Jewish leaders protested the decision, I felt it necessary to appeal to Caesar, even though I had no desire to press charges against my own people. I asked you to come here today so we could get acquainted and so I could explain to you that I am bound with this chain because I believe that the hope of Israel—the Messiah—has already come.” They replied, “We have had no letters from Judea or reports against you from anyone who has come here. But we want to hear what you believe, for the only thing we know about this movement is that it is denounced everywhere.””

    Romans 8:28 KJV
[28] And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

God worked for Paul’s good and I can trust Him to do the same for me. He may not make the path smooth, but He will provide the opportunity to do His work.

  11. I love POFW live Jesus give Jesus 2 Greater! 5 And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm. Now that’s a miracle in itself! Since when does a snake bite you and you have no pain? Only Jesus can do that!

  12. 10 NLT “As a result we were showered with honors, and when the time came to sail, people supplied us with everything we would need for the trip.”

They may have list everything including their ship, however GOD’s will be done. Paul was to go to Rome. GOD provided all their needs to complete their journey including a ship.

When the Jews didn’t respond, Paul didn’t shut down, he kept going. Remember it’s not you the people reject – keep teaching, keep reaching, keep loving, keep sharing, and watch God draw in the harvest through you!

  18. Acts 28:3-6 (NLT)
    3) As Paul gathered an armful of sticks and was laying them on the fire, a poisonous snake, driven out by the heat, bit him on the hand.
    4) The people of the island saw it hanging from his hand and said to each other, A murder, no doubt! Though he escaped the sea, justice will not permit him to live.
    5) But Paul shook off the snake into the fire and was unharmed.
    6) The people waited for him to swell up or suddenly drop dead. But when they had waited a long time and saw that he wasn’t harmed, they changed their minds and decided he was a god.

Isn’t it just like that old “snake” – the devil, serpent – that when we are laying More Wood – Sticks on the FIRE, he’s going to raise up his ugly old head and bite us and try to hang onto us until we die spiritually. (And the sad thing is, there are people out there just setting there watching and waiting for us to die spiritual too).
So let’s be like Paul. SHAKE OFF that old “snake” -the devil, and put him back in the FIRE where he belongs, and leaved Unharmed by his attack.
Because when we do, we will see More Miracles, Signs, and Wonders, and Honor to God’s people. (vs. 7-10).

    Be GREATER!!

  19. ‘So a time was set, and on that day a large number of people came to Paul’s lodging. He explained and testified about the Kingdom of God and tried to persuade them about Jesus from the Scriptures. Using the law of Moses and the books of the prophets, he spoke to them from morning until evening. Some were persuaded by the things he said, but others did not believe. ‘

    Acts of the Apostles 28:23-24
when the momentum dies down JUST KEEP PREACHING.
keep preaching the gospel keep preaching the good ness of Jesus
when the ship wrecks keep testifying the great things Jesus is STILL doing

  20. The Kingdom of God is GREATER
Wow, when I read this I thought, “Paul didn’t panic, the Word doesn’t say he fell on his knees and cry out to God, he doesn’t go to someone for prayer, he doesn’t seek help, he just keeps going on like everything is normal.” Paul had complete dominion over the circumstance and his lack of panic proved it.

  21. Acts 28:31 Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, With all confidence, no man forbidding him.

Ephesians 6:19 And for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery (hidden truth) of the gospel,

    Amen!

  22. 26 Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:

27 For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

28 Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it

After wintering in Melita, a ship came and brought Paul and the others to Rome. Paul called the Jews for a meeting. Paul explained what he was doing there. He preached the gospel of Jesus Christ to them. Some believed and some did not believe. He preached to the Gentiles and many of them believed. Some people are honest and will listen to truth, others will close their eyes and ears and not believe. Thank God for those who do believe.

  23. 27 For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

Not everyone will receive what they hear. The old saying “you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink” is very true. We can share Jesus with as many people as we come in contact with, but the ultimate decision is theirs. Some word falls on good ground, some on stoney. What they do with what they hear is between them and Jesus.

We must pray that Jesus would open the understanding of people that we are going to speak to each day, give them ears to hear and a heart to receive, and then do our part. Let Jesus and them work the rest out. We are free of their blood if they don’t hear.

  24. GREATER
    I BELIEVE

24 And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.

This scenario plays out every rime the WORD of GOD is spoken. As the Apostle Paul shared the Apostolic Doctrine with the Jews, some beleived and followed and some believed not and departed.

The spirit of the Jews is still active in the church today among the Gentiles.

People hear the TRUTH wheter by salvation or instruction in righteousness and do not understand. They can see the TRUTH and not perceive.

We can pray, teach, preach, warn and share illiustrations, but when a person does not believe it is a HEART issue. The prophet Jeremiah gave us great insight into this painful deception.

Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

    Lets look at

WAXED GROSS – 3975. pachynoœ; from a derivative of 4078 (meaning thick); to thicken, i.e. (by implication) to fatten (figuratively, stupefy or render callous): — wax gross.

Their HEART was so full of themselves they were resistant to the WORD of GOD and instructions of the Man of GOD.

1Corinthians 13:4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

The word PUFFED and PROUD are the same Greek word.

The PROUD feel like they know everything but:

1Timothy 6:4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,

In their HEART is questioning, strife, evil surmising or questions.

    The apostle Peter warned also:

1Peter 5:5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

GOD ordained that the younger submit to the elder, even if they think elder is wrong. This is humility and submission which with JESUS will WORK and MOVE.

  25. 2The people of the island were very kind to us. It was cold and rainy, so they built a fire on the shore to welcome us.

Be kind to those who you meet. Kindness brings trust, truth and obedience. They more kindness you show, the more you’ll be able to reach someone and bring them to God.

  26. 24 And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.
    *************
In our every day life we come across those who do not believe, some have never heard of Jesus and His way of salvation. We can tell them our testimony, we can tell them stories from the bible, we can tell them of Jesus, some will accept and some will just walk away, not knowing that they are headed straight for hell, because they won’t hear the truth, repent and be baptized in Jesus name and be filled with the Holy Spirit. Is it their pride? is it their past? or is it their family beliefs and the way they were raised? I don’t know. I have family members that won’t hear, won’t believe, Won’t accept. It is heartbreaking to know those you love will not even give it a chance. I pray for them, I find any opportunities I can to speak of Him. But I know in the end it is their decision. God will pull at their heart strings, but they have to hearken unto the pull and accept Him as their Savior, I can’t do it for them. I know I am not the only one that have family that don’t live for God. We must keep praying for them even if in our lifetime we don’t see it , it could happen and may even into generations after. Our grandchildren, or great grandchildren. Jesus hears our prayers and He will answer. Hallelujah

  27. And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,

26 Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:

29 And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves.

  28. “Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭28:28‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We ar living in times where hearts are waxed cold. People would rather stay in their ‘religious’ mindset than to believe and accept what truth is.
They’ve allowed themselves to be deceived by their own desires and satan.

But today I am blessed and thankful that the salvation of GOD came to me in 1997. Couldn’t imagine my life without The LORD.
JESUS I pray that you will begin to prepare the hearts of your children for this weekend. That they will be ready to receive salvation from you. 🙌🙏👍
    In the Name of Jesus

  29. 31 He proclaimed the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ—with all boldness and without hindrance!
    NIV

God called us to preach about His Kingdom, with no shame and with all boldness, to those who may lack knowledge of His goodness!

  30. Even when people didn’t believe Paul he continued to preach truth! Even when people doubt you never give up on spreading the gospel to everyone.

  31. 23 And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.
24 And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.

We are not responsible for who believes and who doesn’t believe- we are responsible to teach/preach the word of God, praying it falls on the good ‘soil’ of the heart, as the parable of the sower states.

  32. And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.

9 So when this was done, others also, which had diseases in the island, came, and were healed:

There’s coming a time that people from all over are gonna come to this house to get prayed for and they will be healed! But it all starts with the burden and desire for outreach and Inreach. Where are the laborers

  34. Acts 28

3 As Paul gathered an armfull of sticks and was laying them on the fire, a poisonous snake driven out by the heat, bit him on the hand.
4 The people of the island saw it hanging from his hand and said to each other; a murderer no doubt! Though he escaped the sea, Justice will not permit him to live.
5 But Paul shook off the snake in the fire and was unharmed.
6 The people waited for him to swell up or suddenly drop dead. But when they had waited a long time and saw that he wasn’t harmed, they changed their minds and thought he was a God.

Paul had escaped the sea, and was placed with strangers. He was being blessed by God as Paul survived the poisinous snake and healed those who were sick. Paul kept trying to help others while not concerned for himself. We will be having many people on Sunday who may not know God at all. We need to try to help bring them to our Lord Jesus Christ.
Thank you Jesus for this day.

  35. 24 And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.

Not everybody will agree with the word. Just because they don’t believe that doesn’t mean God is not real. He is still the one true only God.

  36. 27 For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
28 Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.
29 And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves

Although we read, or hear The Word , often times we miss what Jesus is telling us.

  37. 23 And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.

24 And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.

There are always going to be some that believe and some that believe not, we must not get discouraged about the people that don’t believe. We must keep going forward and never stop telling people about Jesus and what he has done for all of us!

  38. 8 And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.

9 So when this was done, others also, which had diseases in the island, came, and were healed:

10 Who also honoured us with many honours; and when we departed, they laded us with such things as were necessary.

It doesn’t say that any were converted or believed on the Lord. It just says that many were healed. It’s interesting to note the power of God and how he works.

  39. “So I want you to know that this salvation from God has also been offered to the Gentiles, and they will accept it.””
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭28:28‬ ‭NLT‬‬

All in all just know – Jesus died and rose again for ALL of us. Paul was straightforward after talking with them all day about salvation. This reminds me that it is not our job to make someone receive a revelation – we leave that to God. All we need is to go and teach the Word, baptizing in Jesus name as we do and pray God will be faithful to His promises

  40. 14 Where we found brethren, and were desired to tarry with them seven days: and so we went toward Rome.

We don’t realize sometimes that Luke was on this journey with Paul.
As we approach friend day and we pray for our friends I will also pray that Kingdom Partnerships like Luke and Paul’s will be forged! In Jesus Name! Hallelujah

  41. “For the next two years, Paul lived in Rome at his own expense. He welcomed all who visited him, boldly proclaiming the Kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ. And no one tried to stop him.”
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭28:30-31‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Don’t give up. Everyone is not always going to receive the word of god when you witness to them. That doesn’t mean let it go. There are many souls out here who are willing and ready to receive what god has for them. Continue to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. Don’t go mute because the world needs to know about Jesus.
