Genesis 12
1Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
2And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
3And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
4So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.
5And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.
6And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.
7And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.
8And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.
9And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the south.
10And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was grievous in the land.
11And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon:
12Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.
13Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.
14And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair.
15The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s house.
16And he entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels.
17And the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram’s wife.
18And Pharaoh called Abram and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?
19Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way.
20And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him: and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had.

You want to build an altar to God, where you are at and where you are going. After He speaks to you, and whenever you need a word from Him. You definately need God on your journey with you. Make an alter of worship and sacrifice.

God protects His own,even when they act foolishly. Sometimes we, too, make fear based decisions rather than faith-based ones. But God takes care of us, sometimes going to extraordinary lenghts to assure that his plans are not disrupted. Which won’t happen on his watch. In this case, God directs circustances to protect the future mother of Isreal (Sarai) and to preserve his promise to create a great nation through Abram.
13Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.
17And the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram’s wife.
V.2 And I will make the a great Nation,and I will bless the, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing. V.3And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all the families of the earth shall be blessed. I am amazed by how we can forget what the LORD has spoken into our lives, that when we go through a trial, that we so quickly look to see what the world has to offer to please the desires of our flesh. God had already blessed Abraham’s life. I believe it is true that we can hinder and stop God’s prophecy,plan, and purpose for our lives. I thank God for wanting to fulfill his plan in Abraham’s life.
V1 NIV The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you.”
v4 So Abram left as the Lord had told him:
Faith put to the test!
No questions asked!!
Obedience !!!
Vs 2-3 The Lord promised to bless Abram, but notice so that he could be a blessing. We should remember this at a time when the Lord blesses us. We should bless his kingdom.
God promised to bless Abram and make him great, but God had one condition. Abram had to do what God wanted him to do. This meant leaving his family and friends and traveling to a new land where God promised to build a great nation from Abram’s family. Abram obeyed, walking away from his home for God’s promise of even greater blessings in the future. God may be trying to lead us to a place of greater service and usefulness for him. Don’t let the comfort and security of our position make us miss God’s plan for us.
When God promises something ;He will not forsake His promise. As He told Abram that he would be the father of many nations. God would not allow anything to happen to his wife. So many times we forget Gods’ promises for our lives. This is when we can get into some trouble,because we forget what God promised us. We need to remember who is in control!

This reminds me of the scripture Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding.
What trust Abraham had to have to completely trust in God and know that He was going to take him into a place better than where he was already.
Not only Abraham but everyone that followed him as well. God said go and they went. They were being led to a place where they did not know and trusted that God would have his hand on them through it all.
BUILDING AN ALTAR
8 And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.
Abram like many of us stopped and pitched a tent or resided in a place between Bethel and Hai. In this place he 1. Built an ALTAR 2. Called on the NAME of the LORD. The significance of this verse is found in the place where it happened.
1. BETHEL – “house of God”
2. HAI – “heap of ruins”
Most of our lives are lived somewhere between BETHEL – The house of GOD and HAI – the heap of ruins. What we do in that place is so important to GOD. We need to build an altar and call on the name of the LORD; regardless of our surroundings; somewhere between BLESSED and RUIN.
Worship is always in order.
BE Church
After God made a promise, Abraham lied about his wife, the mother of many nations but when he was scared, he denied her. How many times has a promise come from God and we deny it. If Abraham would not have lied about Sarai, maybe his child of promise would have come sooner.
Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

How much are you willing to leave behind for HIS kingdom? All I can say are His promises are worth it. Thank you Jesus for you know what is best for us.

God made Abram a blessing to all the people of the earth and if we bless this people we will be blessed but if not God also lets us know we could be cursed. If we look at the faith and odeience of Abram and strive to be like him, we cannot help but be blessed ourselves.

Instead of relying on God to protect him,Abram lied and deceived Pharaoh. Even though Abram made this vast mistake he still had the promise of God on him.
If God has promised us something we first must move toward the promise and allow God to fulfill it. If we make a mistake we cannot throw our hands up and give up. We must repent and get back on track toward God’s promise.

How many will be ready to go at the voice of God. God is talking to some people today and telling them it’s time to move. Who will open their ears and their hearts to receive what thus saith the Lord?
v 1 ” Now the Lord had said unto Abram”
Jesus said,” Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of GOD.
Have faith in GOD don’t accept substitutes for what GOD has promised you.
HE is the Master of every situation.
So thankful for the promises and blessings of GOD
The promise of the comforter.

God gave Abraham instruction to get thee out of the land and go a land that he would “shew” him. He had not even yet been given the promise that the land would be his, but he was willing to follow the instructions given by God. It appears that with each step taken more direction was given.
We are so guilty of wanting to know the answer in detail and entirely before we will even step out to begin a journey. We must learn to trust the Lord and allow Him to lead us at His pace, not ours. If we willingly will follow what He intends to show us, mighty just become “ours”
Just Go
In the 1st few verses God tells Moses to go… Too often we question God’s plan and timing. This is not God’s way, His way is obedience. We wouldn’t know the promises and blessings of Abraham if he did not simply… Go. The greatest thing Abe did was GO!
What are you waiting on?
Abram was rather weak as a man of God. Thank God we are saved by grace. One woners how long it took abram before God changed his name to Abraham. Was he really worthy or did God change his name to fullfill His own plans for Divine providence. Not all of these old testament “Men of God ” were worthy according to our standards.But God will be the final judge!
Where was Lot’s submission to the authorative figure in his life, his uncle Abraham? He was selfish in his choices. The bible speaks of sensual wisdom, wisdom that comes through what is seen. He should have been seeking God and used the wisdom that comes from above. James 3:15 15This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
16For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
17But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. 18And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace
Had Lot used Godly wisdom, he would have preferred his uncle Abraham, and never chosen the “well watered” plains toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and perhaps his family would not have suffered the loss of Mrs. Lot (pillar of salt) and the degregation of becoming drunk and fathering his own grand children.
This chapter illustrates God’s promises. God told Abram he would bless him; “And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed”. We simply need to learn to trust the Lord and his Word. And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Abram showed great faith by taking everything he had and going where God told him to go. It says that they took all their substance and souls that they had gathered and took them with them. This was so that they would have nothing to go back too. when God brings us out of a situation we need to make sure there is nothing to go back too.
