Joshua 10

1Now it came to pass, when Adonizedec king of Jerusalem had heard how Joshua had taken Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them;

2That they feared greatly, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all the men thereof were mighty.

3Wherefore Adonizedec king of Jerusalem, sent unto Hoham king of Hebron, and unto Piram king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia king of Lachish, and unto Debir king of Eglon, saying,

4Come up unto me, and help me, that we may smite Gibeon: for it hath made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.

5Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their hosts, and encamped before Gibeon, and made war against it.

6And the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, Slack not thy hand from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the mountains are gathered together against us.

7So Joshua ascended from Gilgal, he, and all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valour.

8And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee.

9Joshua therefore came unto them suddenly, and went up from Gilgal all night.

10And the LORD discomfited them before Israel, and slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them along the way that goeth up to Bethhoron, and smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah.

11And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Bethhoron, that the LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.

12Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.

13And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

14And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.

15And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.

16But these five kings fled, and hid themselves in a cave at Makkedah.

17And it was told Joshua, saying, The five kings are found hid in a cave at Makkedah.

18And Joshua said, Roll great stones upon the mouth of the cave, and set men by it for to keep them:

19And stay ye not, but pursue after your enemies, and smite the hindmost of them; suffer them not to enter into their cities: for the LORD your God hath delivered them into your hand.

20And it came to pass, when Joshua and the children of Israel had made an end of slaying them with a very great slaughter, till they were consumed, that the rest which remained of them entered into fenced cities.

21And all the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace: none moved his tongue against any of the children of Israel.

22Then said Joshua, Open the mouth of the cave, and bring out those five kings unto me out of the cave.

23And they did so, and brought forth those five kings unto him out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon.

24And it came to pass, when they brought out those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the captains of the men of war which went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them.

25And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for thus shall the LORD do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.

26And afterward Joshua smote them, and slew them, and hanged them on five trees: and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening.

27And it came to pass at the time of the going down of the sun, that Joshua commanded, and they took them down off the trees, and cast them into the cave wherein they had been hid, and laid great stones in the cave’s mouth, which remain until this very day.

28And that day Joshua took Makkedah, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof he utterly destroyed, them, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain: and he did to the king of Makkedah as he did unto the king of Jericho.

29Then Joshua passed from Makkedah, and all Israel with him, unto Libnah, and fought against Libnah:

30And the LORD delivered it also, and the king thereof, into the hand of Israel; and he smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain in it; but did unto the king thereof as he did unto the king of Jericho.

31And Joshua passed from Libnah, and all Israel with him, unto Lachish, and encamped against it, and fought against it:

32And the LORD delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel, which took it on the second day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein, according to all that he had done to Libnah.

33Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish; and Joshua smote him and his people, until he had left him none remaining.

34And from Lachish Joshua passed unto Eglon, and all Israel with him; and they encamped against it, and fought against it:

35And they took it on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish.

36And Joshua went up from Eglon, and all Israel with him, unto Hebron; and they fought against it:

37And they took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining, according to all that he had done to Eglon; but destroyed it utterly, and all the souls that were therein.

38And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to Debir; and fought against it:

39And he took it, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof; and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining: as he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to the king thereof; as he had done also to Libnah, and to her king.

40So Joshua smote all the country of the hills, and of the south, and of the vale, and of the springs, and all their kings: he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD God of Israel commanded.

41And Joshua smote them from Kadeshbarnea even unto Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, even unto Gibeon.

42And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel.

43And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.

Joahuas relationship with God is a great example of what we should strive for daily. That we would be able to speak things and God would honor our words.

  2. v13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher ? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and basted not to go down about a whole day.

Aren’t you glad you believe in miracles!

” Come here” and put your feet on the necks of these kings.

Behold I give you power to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Lk.10:19
The enemy is under our feet.

***These are the same people who used deceit to gain access into the covenant of God…and now they’re begging for help…

Because of the oath with Joshua, they were covered…

Some people in church are covered today because of the leadership of our pastor… as long as they remain and serve they are going to be covered, but as soon as they leave, the protection will be removed.

  6. 8. And the LORD said
unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee.

    10. And the LORD discomfited them
before Israel, and slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them along the way that goeth up to Bethhoron, and smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah.

    11. And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Bethhoron, that
the LORD cast down great stones from heaven
upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.

    14. And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man:
for the LORD fought for Israel.

    30. And the LORD delivered
it also, and the king thereof, into the hand of Israel; and he smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain in it; but did unto the king thereof as he did unto the king of Jericho.

    32. And the LORD delivered
Lachish into the hand of Israel, which took it on the second day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein, according to all that he had done to Libnah.

    42. And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because
the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel.

I see a common theme here…when we first hear from God; then let Him fight our battles, we win every time!!

  7. 37 And they took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining, according to all that he had done to Eglon; but destroyed it utterly, and all the souls that were therein. GOD WILL FIGHT YOUR BATTLES IF YOU WILL LET HIM! IPRAY

  8. LET GOD GATHER YOUR ENEMIES

8 And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee.
9 Joshua therefore came unto them suddenly, and went up from Gilgal all night.

What the enemy meant for evil, God turned it around on them. Do not fear or be dismayed or confused when people or things gang up on you. Place your confidence in the LORD and HE will driver you out of any and every circumstance if we are willing and obedient.

The result of Joshua’s obedience is found in 10 And the LORD discomfited them before Israel, and slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon… The LORD confused them with some sort of noise. Then GOD did this 11… that the LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.

Relationship is revealed in 12 Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon. 13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies.

The LORD caused time to stand still for HIS people to be VICTORIOUS! Oh how he LOVES us.

  9. 40 So Joshua smote all the country of the hills, and of the south, and of the vale, and of the springs, and all their kings: he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD God of Israel commanded.

41And Joshua smote them from Kadeshbarnea even unto Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, even unto Gibeon.

42And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel.

Every time God spoke to Joshua to overtake a land, he and and his men destroyed everything in the land, including the king. Many times God speaks to us to destroy things in our lives that have become a hinderance to us and we may stop doing that thing but we don’t destroy the root of it. If we will be obedient and destroy the yokes/distractions/sins in our lives down to the root, we can have the testimony of verse 42….. the Lord God of Israel fought for Israel.

I want the Lord to fight my battles, so I must be willing to be obedient to the instructions that He gives, in detail.

  10. 42And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel.

Many things could be said about this chapter, yet the one thing that popped out is “the LORD God of Isreal fought for Isreal. If I could change 3 words. This is how it reads in the TMV (Tim Martin Version) “the LORD God of FT. WORTH TX is fighting for you who live in that city and the region around this great city.”

  11. TRIUMPH
The image of the victors feet placed on the neck of the defeated enemys is also seen in Davids psalm of praise to Godwho armed me with strength for battle you made my adversaries bow at my feet.

  12. Sometimes God will have us destroy things in our life but we have to decide if we want to follow Gods will or go against and deal with the many trials that face you ahead.

  13. they got 5 arimes were scared of the one city and joined together to take over one city and then the city got scrared of them now…and ask for joshua…

WHAT DOES IT TAKE FOR THE SUN TO STAND STILL?

*** The rotation of the earth causes the appearance of the sun going up and down. God took his hand and caused the earth to stop spinning for 1 day because of the voice of Joshua.

  15. v 9 And Joshua therefore came unto them suddenly, and went up from Gigal all night.

When God tell us to do a thing for Him and we delay, Satan has a chance to whisper in our ear. We should never put off until tomorrow what needs to be done today. The opportunity make never come our way again.

Ps 119v60 I will hasten and not delay to obey your commands.

  16. when Joshua took the kings out of the caves the smote them slew them and then hanged them. thats what God wonts use to do with sin in our lives not only kill it but destory it three times so it doesnt show its ugly head ever agian

  17. Who are you hanging with?

The other kings decided to come against the Gibeonites because they joined up with Israel. They may not have all been the best of friends before, but apparently they weren’t such sworn enemies that they couldn’t join together during a time of need to face a common enemy. When the Gibeonites made the decision to try to join up with a people walking in the path of God, their peers turned against them. When we make decisions that go against the flow, we will often face opposition from others who had previously seemed content to exist along side us. These sorts of decisions will often reveal who our friends really are and the true colors of the people we have surrounded ourselves with.

  18. Joshua 10:13 (KJV)
13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

In the most amazing cosmic display to ever happen in the history of mankind, the Lord chose, at the prayer of Joshua, to halt his entire cosmic order of time for one man in an eartly battle.

    Genesis 1:14 (KJV)
14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

This event was so amazing because of how the days work. We know that the earth spins on it’s axis and rotates around the sun. For the sun to stop in the sky the earth would need to slow down. One explanation says that the earth slowed its orbit for 12 hours giving Joshua enough time to win the battle.

The even was so amazing that historians detail several accounts from cultures all over the world who witnessed this.

    The point:

God answered the prayer of Joshua, the man who a few chapters ago said they should turn around and go back, to slow or stop the universe. God wants to answer amazing earth stopping prayers for us. All we need to do is

    iPray

  19. It’s amazing how The Lord heard the voice of man, a man that love and obey God, because God fought for Israel. Praise the Lord!

  20. If your in Gods will and harken unto his voice and direction, he will make even the battles that look grim to be easy. if he proceeds you in your battles there is no way to loose. I pray that I learn how to slow down and wait on the voice of God to direct me in battle . How quickly we move when our circumstances look grim. I trust in the Lord, the greatest man of war. He knows exactly how to handle all the opposition in our lives. We just have to make ourselves available to hear his will. Our circumstances get us so caught up that we forget that God is the author of all and he chooses what the end will be in every circumstance. I pray that i continue to grow and harken unto his voice of direction. In Jesus Name. iPray

  21. Joshua told the soldiers to put their feet upon the necks of the Kings before he smote them. he embarrassed the Kings in front of everyone. That was defiantly an “In your face devil” statement. God proved himself faithful to Israel once again. Just when the opposition looked too great God stepped in and fought with them. What a great testimony this is. What would all of us say if we were on that battlefield and saw those stones coming from heaven killing all the ones that we were just fighting. It amazes me how we forget how powerful God is. he is just waiting on us to let him do his work. I ask forgiveness today for letting my own will get in the way of Gods work.

  22. What a great victory joshua had over the enimies of God! One thing that this chapter emphisizes is the God fought the battle. You can never loose when God is on your side…

  23. 40So Joshua smote all the country of the hills, and of the south, and of the vale, and of the springs, and all their kings: he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD God of Israel commanded.

    Joshua obeyed God’s command!

The Authority God has Given Us

(Joshua 10:14 KJV) And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.

***God hears and answers the prayers of men.***

(James 5:16 KJV) Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

(James 5:17 KJV) Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.

(James 5:18 KJV) And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

SO MANY TIMES WE DONT REALIZE THE AUTHORITY AND POWER WE REALLY HAVE.

  25. Once again we see God taking care of his people. Every battle can be won with God on your side. It doesn’t matter how tough the battle seems, God always has it under control.

  26. Vs 28And that day Joshua took Makkedah, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof he utterly destroyed, them, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain: and he did to the king of Makkedah as he did unto the king of Jericho.

POFW will take the region of Fort Worth by prayer and the Word(sword) and we will destory the strongholds (kings) and set the captives free. I know in this scripture the men destoryed the souls but we will lead them out of pits of hell to begin a new life in Christ and destroy their sinful lives. The Lord has given us the Region of Fort Worth. Amen

3-6 The world is unprincipled. It’s dog-eat-dog out there! The world doesn’t fight fair. But we don’t live or fight our battles that way—never have and never will. The tools of our trade aren’t for marketing or manipulation, but they are for demolishing that entire massively corrupt culture. We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ. Our tools are ready at hand for clearing the ground of every obstruction and building lives of obedience into maturity. MSG

  27. Then,at the request of Joshua the sun and the moon “stood still”prolonging the hours of the day . How He did it is no question for us ‘It is not ours to try and soften down the miracles, but to glorify God in them

  28. 14And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.

Many people today have the vision of GOD as someone being kind and loving with no anger or blood. Joshua did GOD’s will and the people of Isreal were with him. GOD had them totally destroy people and places. All the souls that were in certian places were taken from the earth. Blood and gore, not as “sweet” and “nice” as some think of HIM. GOD is the one who can call judgement down on someone and when HE does whoa be to anyone who gets in the way of what HE wants done.

  29. vs 10-11 If we will be and do what we sould for the Lord, He will fight our enemies for us. He will cause them to be confused and dismayed.

  30. This chapter reminds us that no matter what comes against us, whether in singles or we get ganged up on, God takes care of his people.

Verse 13-14 in the MSG reads…”(You can find this written in the Book of Jashar.) The sun stopped in its tracks in mid sky; just sat there all day. There’s never been a day like that before or since—God took orders from a human voice! Truly, God fought for Israel. ).

  31. we should not fear battles or mountains that is in our way for God has given us the victory. And when the battle has come or the mountain is before us no one and nothing will stand in our way, our path will be flat and cleared.

  32. 8 “Do not be afraid of them,” the LORD said to Joshua, “for I have given you victory over them. Not a single one of them will be able to stand up to you.”

25 “Don’t ever be afraid or discouraged,” Joshua told his men. “Be strong and courageous, for the LORD is going to do this to all of your enemies.” (NLT)

We should not have fear or worry but have faith in God and trust His plans for us, because in His plans, He will take care of our enemies and will always bring us through victorious.

  33. This chapter illustrates deliverance. “And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee.” When God says it is delivered than it is done. May the good Lord bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  34. the day the earth stood still. Amazing that God would stop the world to finish this battle if God did what will he do for you.

  35. .I’ve got the victory I’ve got the victory…So stomp, stomp, stomp on the Devil is appropriate for this chapter. Especially how God went in and saved and protected Israel

  36. 12Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.
13And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

    CRAZY FAITH

Caleb had lots of work to do. He was fighting against giants who knew the terrain. They had their gods and Caleb had God. God had told caleb that he would win. Caleb knew that it would take lots of work, and was not scared. How many times do we back off when we see that something is going to take lots of work?

Who would have ever thought to tell the sun or the moon to stand still so that thay might be able to fight longer. We must have crazy faith as we work and fight in our lives so that others might be able to see how great our God is.
