Lamentations 3

1 I Am the man that hath seen affliction by the rod of his wrath.

He hath led me, and brought me into darkness, but not into light.

Surely against me is he turned; he turneth his hand against me all the day.

My flesh and my skin hath he made old; he hath broken my bones.

He hath builded against me, and compassed me with gall and travail.

He hath set me in dark places, as they that be dead of old.

He hath hedged me about, that I cannot get out: he hath made my chain heavy.

Also when I cry and shout, he shutteth out my prayer.

He hath inclosed my ways with hewn stone, he hath made my paths crooked.

10 He was unto me as a bear lying in wait, and as a lion in secret places.

11 He hath turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces: he hath made me desolate.

12 He hath bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.

13 He hath caused the arrows of his quiver to enter into my reins.

14 I was a derision to all my people; and their song all the day.

15 He hath filled me with bitterness, he hath made me drunken with wormwood.

16 He hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones, he hath covered me with ashes.

17 And thou hast removed my soul far off from peace: I forgat prosperity.

18 And I said, My strength and my hope is perished from theLord:

19 Remembering mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall.

20 My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me.

21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.

22 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

24 The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

25 The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.

26 It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.

27 It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.

28 He sitteth alone and keepeth silence, because he hath borne it upon him.

29 He putteth his mouth in the dust; if so be there may be hope.

30 He giveth his cheek to him that smiteth him: he is filled full with reproach.

31 For the Lord will not cast off for ever:

32 But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies.

33 For he doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.

34 To crush under his feet all the prisoners of the earth.

35 To turn aside the right of a man before the face of the most High,

36 To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approveth not.

37 Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not?

38 Out of the mouth of the most High proceedeth not evil and good?

39 Wherefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?

40 Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to theLord.

41 Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.

42 We have transgressed and have rebelled: thou hast not pardoned.

43 Thou hast covered with anger, and persecuted us: thou hast slain, thou hast not pitied.

44 Thou hast covered thyself with a cloud, that our prayer should not pass through.

45 Thou hast made us as the offscouring and refuse in the midst of the people.

46 All our enemies have opened their mouths against us.

47 Fear and a snare is come upon us, desolation and destruction.

48 Mine eye runneth down with rivers of water for the destruction of the daughter of my people.

49 Mine eye trickleth down, and ceaseth not, without any intermission.

50 Till the Lord look down, and behold from heaven.

51 Mine eye affecteth mine heart because of all the daughters of my city.

52 Mine enemies chased me sore, like a bird, without cause.

53 They have cut off my life in the dungeon, and cast a stone upon me.

54 Waters flowed over mine head; then I said, I am cut off.

55 I called upon thy name, O Lord, out of the low dungeon.

56 Thou hast heard my voice: hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry.

57 Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee: thou saidst, Fear not.

58 O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.

59 O Lord, thou hast seen my wrong: judge thou my cause.

60 Thou hast seen all their vengeance and all their imaginations against me.

61 Thou hast heard their reproach, O Lord, and all their imaginations against me;

62 The lips of those that rose up against me, and their device against me all the day.

63 Behold their sitting down, and their rising up; I am their musick.

64 Render unto them a recompence, O Lord, according to the work of their hands.

65 Give them sorrow of heart, thy curse unto them.

66 Persecute and destroy them in anger from under the heavens of the Lord.

  1. 55 I called upon thy name, O Lord, out of the low dungeon.

ALWAYS CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD

Even though Jeremiah was in a low dungeon, how bad can it get, He always found time to call upon God. If we will always call upon the Lord he will come to our rescue. Many times we think we can work things out on our own and are not willing to allow God to work out our lives.
Life will always bring things our way that trouble us. We should not Fear.
Pastor Watts made it clear last night that we should allow fear to stop us from moving forward. Fear has a way of holding us back from our potential!!
God heard Jeremiah’s cry and prayer even in a low dungeon where there was no cell phone service and God will hear you when you are at your lowest.
He drew near in the day I called upon him. why don’t we call upon him today and allow him to bless us. He pleaded the causes of my soul, even redeemed our lives. Yes when we are wrong he Judges our cause.

There is no god like our God!!!
Seek him while he may be found and call upon him early!!!!
I truly love the story of Joseph that Pastor preached about last night. Thank you Pastor Watts for a great message from God. I always Weep when I think of Joseph’s words You meant for evil God meant it for Good.
This proves it pays to hold your vision and seek the Lord!!!

  2. 21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.

22 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

57 Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee: thou saidst, Fear not.

Sometimes you just have to talk yourself into having hope. Take control of your mind and remind yourself of the times that His mercies have kept you from being consumed. He is faithful; what He has done, He will do again. Now is not the time to have fear, now is the time to call upon Him for He cannot fail!

  3. Talk yourself out of the dungeon

Sometimes we need to remind ourselves about God’s Mercies and Grace. Sometimes we need to be our own cheerleaders, and tell ourselves that our God is GOOD ALL the time and ALL the time HE IS GOOD. Sometimes we need to come to a point when we recognize that our situations and circumstances will hold us captive only if we let it. As Job 13:15 Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.
Make up your mind to say “NO MATTER WHAT THE WEAPON IS I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT I WIN”

  4. You-Turn

    Lamentations 3:21
This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.

Jeremiah describes feelings of abandonment, suffering, sorrow, and pain. He has literally watched as everything he knew was turned upside down. The people who refused to listen are now in the midst of God’s judgement, and furious anger. There are no words to describe the hurt of the man of God for the people he preached too.

    So now what?

    Praise break!

This is the key to living victorious. Some things happen that are out of our control, yet God is still God, and he is still worthy of the praise. Jeremiah instantly felt better, a weight lifted, the tears dried up, and the presence of The Lord surrounded him!

    THE WAGONS ARE COMING!

Until they get here, when it gets rough, make a You-Turn. Release Fear, and begin to praise! Let God arise, and his enemies be scattered! Turn that frown upside down by lifting your hands, and stomping the devil on the ground!

He is still God, still worthy, and he definitely knows what he is doing!

    HOSANNA IN THE HIGHEST!

  5. iLove to eat the Word

Jeremiah had personally done nothing to have to go through this hardship through and all the pain and all the suffering. He personally had listened to the voice of God, but I believe that he loved Gods people so much that he subjected himself to the cup of Suffering, and through the pain we get this famous line of scripture..

22 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

God will Always come through for us

  6. Verses 55-57 NLT reminded me of the message from last night, “But I called on your name, Lord, from deep within the pit. You heard me when I cried, “Listen to my pleading! Hear my cry for help!” Yes, you came when I called; you told me, “Do not fear.”” Release it……just do it. Proverbs 28:14 AMP says “Blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) is the man who reverently and worshipfully fears [the Lord] at all times [regardless of circumstances], but he who hardens his heart will fall into calamity.”

  7. 22-24 God’s loyal love couldn’t have run out,
his merciful love couldn’t have dried up.
    They’re created new every morning.
    How great your faithfulness!
I’m sticking with God (I say it over and over).
    He’s all I’ve got left.MSG
Who are you sticking with? I’m so thankful for God’s grace which is new everyday. This chapter reminds me of the song “How Great is Our God”
Without the grace of God where would we be today?

    The splendor of a king
    Clothed in majesty
    Let all the earth rejoice
    All the earth rejoice

    He wraps Himself in light,
    And darkness tries to hide
    And trembles at His voice
    Trembles at His voice

How great is our God – sing with me
How great is our God – and all will see
How great, how great is our God

    Age to age He stands
And time is in His hands
    Beginning and the end
    Beginning and the end

    The Godhead Three in One
    Father, Spirit and Son
    Lion and the Lamb
    Lion and the Lamb

How great is our God – sing with me
How great is our God – and all will see
How great, how great is our God

    Name above all names
    Worthy of all praise
    My heart will sing
    How great is our God

    Name above all names
    You’re worthy of all praise
    And my heart will sing
    How great is our God

    [3x]
How great is our God – sing with me
How great is our God – and all will see
How great, how great is our God

  8. Oh God thank you for your love. The message last night and this chapter go hand in hand. God thank you for allowing me to release fear and unbelief last night and picked up victory. God asked me last night am i ready, will i do the work that He has put before me and will i trust him with everything, every situation and everyone and my answer was yes last night and it is yes this morning. I serve an amazing God who picked me out of a crowd to love, save. Thank you Jesus

  9. 19 Remembering mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall.

Jesus is all I need. Why as believers do we forget where God brought us from? Is it that we get accustomed to the good life? Whoa , be unto anyone who forgets. The greatest testament to witness with ,is your testimony. Just as the children of Israel forgot where God brought them from. The same will happen to us if we forget. As the passage states though, it is His mercy that never fails. Man will fail, but God will never leave you or forsake you.

  10. WHEN HOPE IS LOST I HAVE HOPE

21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.
22 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
24 The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

In this heart wrenching testimony of the painful judgment of GOD upon his people we are still able to find a glimmer of HOPE for a better tomorrow. A HOPE for “Impacting our Future Together”

The Prophet had just confessed his painful state of loneliness and disappointment and in verse 18 he confesses “18 And I said, My strength and my hope is perished from theLord:” confessing his weakness and hopelessness. Then in the MIDDLE of hopelessness, HE “remembers”.

I am not consumed, I am still alive, I still have breath, there is a new day dawning loaded with new mercies, GOD is faithful! I have (POSSESS) HOPE!

Regardless of our current life state, situation or circumstance let it be said of our heart “I HAVE HOPE”. There is not a place dark enough, there is not a pit deep enough, there is not a trial long enough, there is not a test hard enough, there is not persecution harsh enough, there is not an infirmity painful enough, there is not a loneliness isolated enough to cause me to lose HOPE. I HAVE HOPE.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iHope
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  11. 22 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

24 The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

25 The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.

God is good!! No matter how bad we think our problem is, there is always HOPE when we turn it over to Jesus!
He sees the need before it ever happens, but He wants to see how we are going to deal with the situation , are we going to get bitter or have a bad attitude and think everything and everyone is against us or are we going to go to prayer and let God handle it.
God always does a much better job with taking care of our problems than we do. If we do not allow God’s will to be done in a situation , we usually make a bigger mess out of it!!
God I praise you for what you are doing in our lives and the GREAT things you have in store for us and all of POFW!!!
I love my church!! And thru God we are going to do GREAT things!!!!To God be the GLORY!!

  12. I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!” The Lord is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him. (Lamentations 3:24, 25 NLT)

Lord you are my reward!! You are my perfect love! I place my hope in You, depend on You and search for You.

  13. 24 The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

25 The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.

God is in control! When everything else seems to be falling apart we can have peace knowing that He is in control.

    2 Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

What a hope we have in Christ Jesus!

  14. 21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.

When things ate hardand nothing seems to go right no matter which way you turn, remember the Lord’s goodness.. No matter what we go through he is always there, he doesn’t have to be but he is. Watching over us, taking care of us being exactly what we need to keep going and when all seems lost just remember that he is faithful, merciful and just. Always being our hope when it sends we have none

  15. 21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.

As I look back over my life, I can see the handiwork and faithfulness of the Lord. Even when I was unloveable, He extended grace and mercy. He has never failed to answer when I call. Sometimes the answer would be held up, for my good, but the answer has always came on time, and in His time.

I am truly thankful! If it had not been for the Lord on my side, I don’t where I would be.

  16. 31 For no one is abandoned by the Lord forever.
32 Though he brings grief, he also shows compassion because of the greatness of his unfailing love.
33 For he does not enjoy hurting people or causing them sorrow. (NLT)

I was reminded of a song I often hear on the radio that says “Your love never fails, never gives, never runs out on me. . . On, and on, and on, and on it goes, yes it overwhelms and satisfies my soul, and I never ever have to be afraid, this one thing remains.” I thank God for his all consuming never ending love that has loved me through the bright and rough times of my life. God is loving us all and so many times we don’t think about it, how often do we really give God the attention and love He deserves? Jesus, I love you!

  17. I can only imagine how you feel when your looking down at us and we do the things we do but you love us noatter what.. thank you for picking me up and putting me back were I belong and healing our broken hearts touching us with the word lord.i love you

  18. This chapter illustrates appreciation. His appreciation of God (Jesus) was his strength; “This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not”. One must be appreciative, for there is a purpose for everything. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  19. Vs.39, “Wherefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?”
Vs.40, “Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD.”
Vs.41, “Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.”

Why do we complain when we have sinned and God chastises us for it?
We should be thankful that God loves us enough (he’s compassionate towards us) to correct us. He could just let us die in our sins, but verse 22 says, “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.”

So, instead of Complaining about God’s correction, we should be Repenting of our sins. We need to search our hearts, ask God to forgive us, and live for him. Lift up your heart with your hands to God and give him the Praise for his Mercy endureth for ever.

Thank You JESUS for your Mercy and Compassion!

  20. HALELUJAH !!! HALELUJAH !!! HALELUJAH !!!
41 Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.
JESUS!!! I LOVE YOU!!! QUE MI VIDA SEA COMO OLOR GRATO ANTE TU PRESENCIA!!! ERES TAN DIGNO DE TODA ALABANZA Y DE TODA ADORACION!!! TE AMO O MI DIOS!!! NO AY NADIE COMO TU!!! GRANDE ERES!!! PRECIOSO ERES!!! GRACIAS TE DOY SEÑOR POR TU GRANDEZA Y DE FIDELIDAD!!! TE AMO O MI DIOS!!! HALELUJAH !!!

  21. What do you look at?

51 Mine eye affecteth mine heart because of all the daughters of my city.

The eyes are often referred to as the gateway to the soul. The look in peoples eyes can often insinuate what is on their mind. Whether it be love, anger, deceit, or etc there is usually a look that goes with the thought.

The lust of the eye is one of the ways sin enters us. Eve saw that the fruit was good to eat before she even ate it. The heart is exceedingly wicked (Jer 17:9), so it is important that we guard it. Paul said to put on the Breastplate of Righteousness (Eph 6:14). A breastplate is used to protect the core of the body-most notably, the heart.

The things we watch and see will at some effect influence us. We must be careful with what we entertain. A wicked heart is easily influenced. We must protect it with righteousness.

  22. 31 For the Lord will not cast off for ever:
32 But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies.
33 For he doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.

Though God is just & does punish it is not his first choice. His first choice us to warn & give time & chance to repent. Call on him regardless of the need.

  23. 22 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

He is a just God, which means that he judges with a fair hand. Many times what we think is fair and what really is are two different things. Fair is relative to the mind of the person receiving judgement.

Gods mercy is not something to rely on. Although we all need his mercy or we wouldnt have a chance to be with him, we must NOT count on his mercy to save us from a premeditated filthiness.

    James 4:17
Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

There is a difference in messing up unintentionally and repenting knowing that you will with stain from that mistake again and the other hand going to do something that you know is wrong and then asking for forgiveness.

The grace of God is understood to be unmerited favor…Something we didn’t earn, but how foolish would it be for a father to give his child a brand new car when he just totaled the last one acting like an idiot????

    Titus 1:16
They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

Where does he draw the line?

    No man knows……

  24. There won’t always be people to lean on or talk to which can be depressing. That’s when we stand up and take hold of our own lives and think ourselves happy! The mind is a powerful thing and can change your day in an instant!
Lord let me use my mind in the right way and be positive!

  25. Today is a new day
22 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
God’s mercy and faithfulness are renewed each morning. That is good stuff right there. We tell children all the time that it isa new day when they walk in the school. The things of yesterday are gone and it is all new. We as children of God need to remember everyday that it is a new day and that God has new mercies just waiting for us to gather them.

–maybe that is why we are to read early too.

  26. Because…

47 Fear and a snare is come upon us, desolation and destruction.

The thing about fear is that it usually doesn’t get a stronghold by accident. Perhaps is was something that happened, or didn’t, that left us suddenly with a reason to fear. Fear likes to sneak in when we get “counter-evidence.”

“Well, I would believe and hope, but I can’t because…”

21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.

22 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

24 The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

25 The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.

26 It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.

Trusting God comes when that “because…” seems all too tangible.

10 He was unto me as a bear lying in wait, and as a lion in secret places.

Situations can come to us suddenly, but if we will release the Lion of the tribe of Judah… Our praise should spring forth quickly as situations arise, as our reflex to them. God is good at all times and enthroning Him in our praise submits our lives to His reign. We in our free will can struggle against God’s ways but surrendering to Him frees us to wait upon Him and take our hands off. We can faces fears and start saying “I will believe and hope, because… of Who my God is.”

    Hebrews 7:14
For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.

  27. Total Recall

There have been times in my life that I have wanted to remember something but couldn’t. It was like that one memory was no longer there. I have also had dreams that I know God was speaking to me but the next day I just couldn’t remember any details. It always upsets me that I can’t remember but I move on with my life. Then I find myself in a situation and all those memories come flooding back to me. It’s like that one memory was locked behind a door that could not be opened until an appointed time. It’s like Jeremiah experienced this same thing…

In the middle of Jeremiah’s situation he found one of those great doors of appointment in his memory bank and busted it open.

Sometimes life brings good days and sometimes it’s a day, or months, or years of challenge. In the challenging times search your memory find something positive to praise about and watch your attitude and situation change right before your eyes.

In my situation it was like God opened the door for me but Jeremiah pulled out his credit card and broke into his new season and praised his way to his new place.

    Hallelujah!

  28. Ineffective Prayer

Jeremiah writes about the pain of the Isrealites’ sin-produced destruction as if it were his own. Although he does not turn away from God as the people have, he identifies with their shame- for he in fact is one of them. The prophet’s dispair is genuine: He feels alienated from God. As the people’s intercessor, he understands the sad results of persisent disobedience. He after all was the one delivering God’s warnings. He knows that consistently neglecting God’s ways renders prayer ineffective.

Jeremiah watches as the wayward Israelites stop calling for God and then conclude God is impotent-or at least uninterested. He begs the people to repent and reestablish their connection to God. He knows the answer to connecting with God, for he is a prophet. But they still don’t obey. The people’s decisions lead them into isolation and despair. They need to pray, but their sin alienates them from God. Jeremiah expresses these sad results in this chapters lament. The further God’s children run away from Him, the louder God has to speak, speaking through prophets and men/women of God, and the harsher the punishment to grab our attention. When his backslid children pray to Him, they cannot and do not hear from Him, because their is sin creating a road block. Their prayers hit the ceiling, and they fall into despair. The enemy will feast off this isolation. Only God can break these chains, we become effective when we repent and turn to Him. When His Spirit is dwelling within us He is so much closer to be heard and felt.

  29. 22 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

24 The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

I am thankful for the blood, for the Lord’s salvation, for His mercy, grace and favor. Thankful for God’s unfailing love. That us being yet sinners, He loved us and offered Himself up as ransom and sacrifice.
    Thankful for his mercy.

Psalm 130:3-5 If thou, Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared. I wait for the Lord, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.

  30. 21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.
22 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
24 The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.
25 The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him

    Hope

Hope can bring a person through the worst of times. Hope can cause a person to imagine and achieve the impossible. Hope that one day, we will hear “Well done” from our Father, should compell us to never give up.

These few verses bring great hope to any “believer”, but as believers, it is our task to convey it to the lost and hurting around us….
