1 Peter 5

1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:

2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;

3 Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being examples to the flock.

4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.

5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

12 By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand.

13 The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son.

14 Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all that are in Christ Jesus. Amen.

  1. 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Sober: quiet or sedate in demeanor, as persons, marked by seriousness, gravity, solemnity, etc., as of demeanor, speech, etc. a sober occasion, subdued in tone, as color; not gay or showy, as clothes, free from excess, extravagance, or exaggeration, sober facts, showing self-control, sober restraint.

We must remain consistent in our attitude and actions so that the enemy, the devourer of our soul does not get a strong hold on our life in any manner. If we stay submitted, and possess a meek and quiet spirit, always on guard, vigilant in spirit, watching and praying, the Lord will guard us and keep us.

  2. 5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder.

Humility is the way to the top, but many people have the idea that submitting to someone is a sign of weakness. The only sign of weakness is the weakness of the flesh, we need to be weak in flesh and strong in Spirit. To be strong in the Spirit we need to be humble to God and his authority and allow ourselves to submit.
When we do these things God will give us grace to face anything in our lives. These verses goes on to talk about being sober and vigilant, because we have an enemy, we never need to forget that we have an enemy. The enemy that would love to destroy our walk with God, seeking whatever he can to tempt us. I don’t want to make the devil to be any bigger than he is, but he will work on our weaknesses.
We need to be strong in God and never allow the devil to move into our lives at his own will. Resist the devil and he will flee from you!!

  3. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

Too many people try to get the exaltation before the humbling. That kind of thinking is backwards. When we submit to the mighty hand of God, he will lift us up. We don’t have to force our rise, let God do the work. In order to be exalted in the kingdom of God, we’ve got to move in the other direction by humbling ourselves. God will bless those who are submitted to his word.

  4. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Submission = the mention of this word makes people angry, defensive, they try to say that is no longer needed, that was for different times, old time, so on, and so on.

To them I will like to remind them of Hebrew 13:8 Hebrews 13:8 King James Version (KJV)
8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
IS THERE IS SOMETHING GOD IS: THAT IS CONSISTENT
Malachi 3:6 For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.
Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
And if there is any doubt on your mind this should clear it up Psalm 100:5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

So why do we shy away from submission when God glorifies in it. He find joy, love, and stability in those who submit to their God, Pastor, husband, boss, etc.
The definition of Consistency is simple = CONSISTENCY: Doing what pleases God each time, every time, for a long time. When we love God all we desire is to please Him to Love Him with all we have.

    Mark 12:28-34King James Version (KJV)

28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?
29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:
33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.

So we have established 2 very important things:

    1 GOD NEVER CHANGES
2 GOD AND HIS WORD IS CONSTANT

    Which then re-establish the fact that SUBMISSION (even if you do not like it) is mandatory, a command, not a choice, and one of the most pleasing things to GOD. Now, a lot of woman that are in a domestic violence situation feel that they need a way out of this. Ephesians 5: 25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

I love the fact that God does EVERYTHING IN A COVENANT, CONTRACT, COMMITMENT STYLE. What does that mean???? Legally that when one break the covenant then the contract becomes null and void. This is not a get out of jail free card. Because our God Changes NOT AND BECAUSE HE IS CONSTANT AND DOES NOT LIE. We have a responsibility to make sure we as wives have submitted, have respected, have not neglect our home, etc. I AM NOT CONDONING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE FAR FROM IT. For a man that loves his own body will not harm his own body nor his wives for they are one. What I am saying is that in everything there are 3 sides of the story his, hers, and the truth.

I pray my blog helps people understand that submission is the must beautiful thing and that it is not antiquated in any way for GOD NEVER CHANGES.

  5. THE GREAT EXCHANGE

We are tempted to become proud and arrogant over the situations that we have no control over. In full surrender to GOD we often are stretched in our FAITH. This STRETCH usually shows up when we think or feel like we deserve something from GOD or someone else.

THE GREAT EXCHANGE is when we allow GOD to humble to accept HIS TIMING and process for promotion, that HE may promote us with HIS FAVOR.

Galatians 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

THE EXCHANGE is revealed when we allow HIS will to become our will and choose HIS timing over our timing. Don’t quit, don’t give up, don’t fall into the trap of pride that multitudes have fallen into in times past.

EXCHANGE resistance for favor through humility and not pride.

  6. Verses 6-7 MSG “So be content with who you are, and don’t put on airs. God’s strong hand is on you; he’ll promote you at the right time. Live carefree before God; he is most careful with you.”

Same verses AMP “Therefore humble yourselves [demote, lower yourselves in your own estimation] under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt you, Casting the [c]whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, [d]once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you [e]watchfully.” It is not about us…..it is all about Jesus. Trust in the Lord, doing His will and be blessed.

  7. iLove to eat More Word

Wow, this is right of time, what a great way to start The Pentecostals of Fort Worth 2015 Block Party featuring our first ever “Buns of the Run”! We cast all our care on God and trust the Lord to do great things today as we submit one to another in Unity.

  8. Feed the flock

    2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;

3 Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being examples to the flock.

There is this new saying of “I’m Not dieting I’m having a lifestyle change.” Meaning I am changing the way I think, eat, conduct myself around food. God is searching for people that will willingly change their mentality about His Word and not just read it so you know the information but live it. Just because you know it does not make you a teacher. It is not until you make a lifestyle change and live it that makes you a teacher.

We are to become living examples of Him!

  9. Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

Humility. When we are humble God can use us. Humility will allow God to direct us where he wants us to go. It’s not by our own thoughts that save us. But though the humbleness of Jesus that died on the cross. I have seen the blessings of humility in my life. My father was humble and at the unfortunate timing of his death. Many people came to his funeral and viewing. 100s. Yet I have been to a persons funeral where they were always prideful and they had but a few there. It’s not about how many people are at your funeral. But the level of impact in someone’s life.

    More humility.
    More revival

  10. AMP of 1 Peter 5:7-9
Casting the whole of your care (all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all) on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.
Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind) be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring (in fierce hunger), seeking someone to seize upon and devour.
Withstand him; be firm in faith (against his onset – rooted, established, strong, immovable, and determined), knowing that the same (identical) sufferings are appointed to your brotherhood ( the whole body of Christians) throughout the world.

There is a reason why God wants us to cast all our cares upon Him, because “The mind is a battlefield.”
The scripture tells us to be sober (keep our mental thoughts and emotional feelings in check, be well-balanced, be temperate) and to be vigilant (watchful) and cautious at all times, because if the devil knows that we are full cares, anxieties, worries, and concerns, which is doubt, disbelief, and distrust in God, this is when he can seize the moment and devour and destroy us.
So the only way we can overcome him is by resisting (withstanding) him and being firm in our Faith in God. Knowing that when we cast our cares, anxieties, worries, concerns on Him (God), that He loves us so much that He is going to take care of us just like He said He would.

Thank You JESUS that you Love and Care about us so much, that we can cast ALL of our cares upon you.

James 4:7 says, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

  11. 5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
Amen it’s a blessing to be part of a church that respects elders so much. I have never had the opportunity to be part of something like that and I give thanks or that. Elders are a blessing to have because they have wisdom that us younger ones don’t! Elders see things that we don’t! I praise and thank God for placing me at POFW EVERY single day because you can never do to much for the kingdom of God! Beig able to experience children recieve the HG, adults come to God, youth turn from their bad walk is something that only God can do. I will praise you always Jesus!!!! I will trust in you ALWAYS!!!

  12. 1peter 5:3
Neither as being lords over god’s heritage but being ensamples to the flock.

God wants us to be ensamples to the flock like going and pulling people into the church he dose not want us to be lords he wants us to be ensamples. MORE Faith,
MORE Prayers and MORE revival AMEN

  13. 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

I hear a lot of people justify how smoking is ok. “It’s in the bible” or “it legal there” but here in plain words is a command to stay sober with the explanation why. When we allow things to alter our natural state of mind it opens the door to the enemy to come in and have full reign in our thoughts. Subtle at first, it might be but the enemy only has one goal and that is to destroy us. We just make his job easier when we do things that alter our state of mind. The enemy never sleeps, he is always looking for ways to destroy us. Let’s not personally open the door for him to attack us by altering our state of mind in any way.

  14. 1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:

    2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;

3 Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being examples to the flock.

It’s a great responsibility to be an elder over the flock. It is not done for recognition or to be placed on a pedestal but it is to oversee your congregation as a Pastor or to assist him in watching over the people. The enemy devours and we need our elders to be the watchmen on the wall so to speak. Pray for them – they carry a great responsibility.

  15. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Humbling yourself is one of the hardest things to do, when society tells you not to let anybody take advantage of you, or to stand up to everybody that is trying to hurt you. When it is broadcast everyday that you are your own man and everything you do you can do on your own, all of that builds up pride in you and it hardens your heart to maybe ask for help, or forgiveness. Peter is telling us to do the opposite and render yourself to God meaning all the pride must come down and He will exalt you when the time is right because He loves us and cares for us.

  16. vs-10
After you have suffered a litle while our God who is full of kindness through Christ will give you his eternal glory. He will personally will come and pick you up and set you firmly in place and make you stronger than ever.
I thank this is a great vs to rember when you are going through a hard time. PRAISE GOD

  17. vs-5
    WHY BE HUMBLE
Not just because its right. We should be humble rather than ARROGANT in our relationships with oter church body people.
Reading this brings to my thoughts it would not hurt for the youth in the church to look at this vs

  18. 10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

After we have suffered a while……. We become perfect and settled. It doesn’t say that the suffering is over, but it says that we make it to perfection. We can reach a state of perfection, when we stay repentant and submitted.
    The Bakers =)

  19. “Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.” If the Creator (Jesus) himself showed himself to be humble and submitted, how much the more should not oneself be. Dear God, help me to be ever mindful and obedient to your example; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. In God we trust! What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  20. 1 Peter 5
    Be Subject One to Another

5:5 Likewise, you younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and give grace to the humble.

    Romans 12:10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;

  21. The lions target

1Pet. 5:8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Lions have a unique way of seeing. They are unable to see with detail. They won’t attack things larger than themselves either. When they look at a pack of gazelles, they see one solid thing that is much larger than them. They don’t attack, but when a gazelle lags behind the pack, the lion sees it. Those are the ones they attack. We must stay with the body of Christ. We become easy targets when we lag behind the body of Christ. We must stay together in unity. We can be divided amongst ourselves.

  22. 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Although I have studied the Greek definition of the word care in this scripture I like to read it a bit different.

Casting all your worry, doubt, concern, and care upon him and Let him do the caring for you!

I understand the second care means that he cares about us, but I like to remind myself that i don’t need to be the one to worry, fret, and be full of care.

Jesus said to be anxious for nothing. We need to let him have full control and “worry” about how things will turn out. Our lives our much better when we refuse to be ful of care and let him be God!

  23. 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

“Lions do not generally roar when they are on the hunt as this will warn their prey of their whereabouts. On a wind still night lions can be heard roaring 7 to 8km away. Roars are not only used to proclaim territory but also to rally straying members of the pride.”
Be careful when the lion roars in your life. He is trying to claim territory and calling for re-enforcements.
Thats a coward move, trying to intimidate because to a child of God, that is all he can do, is try to instill fear and dominion. He can only devour those who allow access to fear to creep in.
It’s really simple, resist the devil and he will flea. He has no other option but to submit. He has already been defeated.

    Jesus always wins!

  24. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. (‭1 Peter‬ ‭5‬:‭7‬ NLT)

We should never think that we are alone and no one cares. I know we’ve all done it…but there are numerous scriptures like this one that remind us that God loves to hear about our day, our problems, our worries, and even our victories, accomplishments, and praises. He wants to know you, and you should want to know Him. You should always have time for God!

  25. Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

Submit and humble yourselves before one another. God resist people that think too highly of themselves. Let God exalt you in due time .

  26. Be Alert!

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

The greatest tactic a lion has is surprise. Once its prey realizes there is a lion in the thicket, they will dart off to find saftey. Peter posts a warning sign right in fromt of every follower of Jesus. There is a lion in the thicket! His warning resounds throughout history. The enemy goes to and fro the earth, and Job caught his attention. He couldn’t accuse him of anything, but only say that if the Lord allowed him to bring trouble his way then Job would curse Him. The enemy turned Job’s life upside down and still Job maintained integrity before God. satan is still alive and active. His tactics have not changed, His intentions are still as evil and destructive as they have ever been. That’s the bad news. Here comes the good news. We have power to resist. We can stand strong against enemy and be victorious (1 Co 10:13). James puts it this way “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (Ja 4:7). John says it like this: “The one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world” (1Jn 4:4). There is a battle at hand -no question! There is also power of victory in Jesus. We have to be on alert because their is a lion seeking whom he may devour. Each brother and sister are enduring “the same kind of suffering” (vs 9). As Christians we are all fighting battles against the enemy. This is why we must be alert. There is a lion in the thicket!

  27. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.
    1 Peter‬ ‭5‬:‭7‬ NLT

How many other people and religions talk about their God caring for them? I am humbled at this very act. That the almighty God who created everything would find it to care for me. That is called relationship. He knows we cannot do it on our own. And in his pursue for love and relationship he says give it to me. Thank you Lord Jesus that you care for and love me.

  28. vss 8-9 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
Whom resist steadfast in faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your breathen that are in the world.

Paul warns us to be sober, be vigilant and to avoid a greater conflict we must take heed to Paul’s exhortation… ” Neither give place to the devil’.
We must choose obedience to do right and reject the wrong,by doing the right things, we have resolved our greatest conflict….. Conflict with GOD.

    MORE SUBMITION

  29. Ready mind !!!! 1. THE elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: Luke 24 : 48 2. Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 3. Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. 4. And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. 5. Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Isa. 57 : 15 6. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7. Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Ps. 37 : 5 I LOVE YOU JESUS !!!! That you careth for me !!!!

  30. 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

The devil, ole Luci has many tricks to use against us, we have to be careful to be vigilant to our spiritual surroundings so as to not fall for the tricks of the devil. Luckily God gives us an easy way to not be fooled by the devil’s tricks. If we remain faithful to God and his word, he will show us the way and we can see the light separated from the darkness.

For if we have concentrate on God and we focus on his things and his word, then there isn’t way we can stray from the path and be fooled from the devil. But when we take our eyes off him, it becomes easy for us to get distracted by the temptations he will throw our way. But if our eyes stay on him, we won’t notice the temptations that are there.

  31. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

God loves us, he has a plan for us. In his time you will see his plans come to pass. Be Humble and give God praise for all his good works .

  32. 1 peter 5:6 Humble yourself therefore under Gods mighty hand that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be alert and . of sober mind. Your enemy is the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him standing from in the faith because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of suffering.

  33. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
Jesus, King over all, cares so much about us that He chose to go through death in our place. He cherishes each one of us!!!

  34. Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: (‭1 Peter‬ ‭5‬:‭7-8‬ KJV)

Every time I read this I am reminded of Chester Wrights’ words of why a lion roars. Right before it talks about the lion it says to cast our cares on God. That is because if he has our cares then we don’t worry as much and there is not as much fear.
