Acts 6

1 And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.

2 Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.

3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

6 Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

9 Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.

10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

11 Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.

12 And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,

13 And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:

14 For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.

15 And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

  1. No matter what you do people in and even outside the church will throw everything at you to see your down fall. Just to say “told you he was gonna mess up” they sit and wait for you watching your every move.
But God knows the hearts of his servants. God knows the heart of mine and what my intentions are. We should keep our hearts pure and full of the Holy Ghost. So when they point their false lies at us. Our hands are clean and innocent.

Even a man of God like Stephen being lied about just so people can get rid of him cause they didn’t like him. But God was watching over him.

Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God. And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council, (‭Acts‬ ‭6‬:‭11-12‬ KJV)

    JESUS help us!

And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law: (‭Acts‬ ‭6‬:‭13‬ KJV)

  2. The beginning of this chapter speaks about how the Word of God prospered. When things are done in prayer and in order, prosperity comes as the end of verse 6 and the beginning of verse 7 MSG say “….Then they presented them to the apostles. Praying, the apostles laid on hands and commissioned them for their task. The Word of God prospered. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased dramatically…….”.

The beginning of verse 8 MSG says “Stephen, brimming with God’s grace and energy, was doing wonderful things among the people, unmistakable signs that God was among them.” When your heart is right before God (which is all that matters), no ones lies, or false accusations can take away your light within. As verse 15 MSG says “As all those who sat on the High Council looked at Stephen, they found they couldn’t take their eyes off him—his face was like the face of an angel!”

  3. 1 And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.

In those days the word of God prospered, even with the word prospering they were those that complained about the widows being neglected. People will always find something to complain about. The Apostles did try to find someone to help in the matter where people would not have reason to complain.
It has never been and still is not a custom in the churches of God that the teaching of the word should be neglected to do other things. Yes we are concerned and others have always been concerned about the move of God in our churches, which is to be first. We will not neglect our widows and orphans because the Lord himself even taught us to care for them. We do need people who are filled with the Holy Ghost to see after this task.

  4. And Stephen…..

And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake. (‭Acts‬ ‭6‬:‭8, 10‬ KJV)

A man full of faith and power! Not his own power, but full of the Holy Ghost. The enemy will always want to show up and make himself known when the power of GOD is moving in a mighty way. Lucy will try and use people to speak evil against you, accuse you of doing wrong when you’re working, praying, giving, reaching, etc. In GOD’s kingdom!!! I’ve been falsely accused plenty of times after a great move of the Holy Ghost at church. But I’ve made up in my mind ‘devil…. You will not take me down’ for greater is HE that is in me, than he that is in the world.
We are the church, filled with the Holy Ghost, we must proclaim the gospel of Christ in our city. For The Lord has given us boldness. Don’t fear, but speak the truth to all people, don’t be concerned about what they speak of you. God will make your enemies His footstool!! No weapon formed against you shall prosper.

We are in the army of Christ, we shall rise!!

And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel. (‭Acts‬ ‭6‬:‭15‬ KJV)

So what can they speak against a man like that?!

  5. 7. And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

When we allow the Word of God to increase, it multiplies the number of souls added to His Kingdom.

  6. 15 And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

Even when adversity and false witnesses come against us, we need to continue to be CHRIST to those around us. This world is full of lost and hurting people who need JESUS.

  7. Wicked men

Acts 6:11 Then they secretly talked some men into saying, “We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and  God.”

They violated their own law: “you shall not commit false witness against your neighbor.” They show the condition of their hearts. It is rather ironic that they accuse a just man to being against the law of Moses when they themselves violate it in order to accuse him. An evil heart is just in its own eye’s, so is the wicked in his mind.

  8. Snooty and high minded or wise men of God?

I don’t believe these men were being snooty at the request to tend to the poor. Had there been no help I am sure they would have went and ministered to the widows. However, through delegation the work of the Lord was able to expand further than ever before. These men used the principle of MORE. When Pastor asks us to do more, be more and give more he is not asking us individually; rather collectively. By enlarging our reach by the use of others we are able to do, be and give more.

This principle worked wonders; 7 The Word of God prospered. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased dramatically. Not least, a great many priests submitted themselves to the faith. MSG.

  9. And the word of God continued to increase, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests became obedient to the faith. (‭Acts‬ ‭6‬:‭7‬ ESV)

I’ve always heard this scripture read. And it seems that most stop quoting the scripture after the disciples multiplied greatly. I noticed today that word “and”. It also says that priest became obedient to the fee. Priest in those days where in charge of the animal sacrifices and the tabernacle duties. The priest finally received revelation that the Lamb of God paid the ultimate sacrifice for sin.

The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! (‭John‬ ‭1‬:‭29‬ ESV)

  10. MORE LEADERS NEEDED

For thousands of years there has been a call for the church to rise to the occasion to meet the needs of the people. This call necessitates the rise of christian leaders globally to meet the requirements of Leadership.

    1. Honesty
    2. Full of the Holy Ghost
    3. Wisdom
    4. Accountable

These are the apostlic principals that leaders must possess to be counted worthy of this great call. As believers it is our responsibility to prepare and condition ourselves with these biblical principals in mind. As we recognize the last day approaching we must be about out fathers business and that is MORE LEADERS NEEDED.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iPrepare
    iWork
    iGIve
    iReap

  11. iLove to eat More Word
So the Twelve called a meeting of all the believers. They said, “We apostles should spend our time teaching the word of God, not running a food program. (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭6‬:‭2‬ NLT)

Pastor should be able to look to the young ministers in the church to be the ones that reach out and do the programs at the church. He should be able to dedicate more of his time to studying and teaching the word of God. We need some Young men of God to step up to the plate and become great leaders in this in time church.

  12. 7 So God’s message continued to spread. The number of believers greatly increased in Jerusalem, and many of the Jewish priests were converted, too. (NLT)

Can you imagine if they hadn’t done what they were told what would this verse say then? “So God’s message was stopped, paused, put on hold. The number of believers increased by a few in Jerusalem, and one or two of the Jewish priests were converted too.”

No Sir/Ma’am! Often when we are commanded or asked to do something we don’t see the bigger picture, we don’t see all that is at stake. If these men had disobeyed and held a grudge that they had to do the “easy, dirty, unnoticed” job rather than being in the spot light, who knows, the scripture could’ve read the opposite of what it does and “many” souls would have been lost. Don’t be so selfish to disobey what elders and authorities ask of you; you could be putting many, many souls in eternal danger!

  13. 11 Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.
12 And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,
13 And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:
Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

If someone say something about you don’t let it sit a ferment your heart with garbage, for that is exactly what it is and what will happened. Sad part is that if we don’t get guidance right away with Pastor for a small miss understanding you destroy a life time of friendship.

  14. 10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

There are people who do not want anything to do with the word of God, but even they can not resist the word of God and His spirit!

  15. 7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

When we decrease our own selves and begin to allow the word of God to increase in our lives, he will bless us and use us to draw souls into his kingdom!!

  16. 1 But as the believers rapidly multiplied, there were rumblings of discontent. The Greek-speaking believers complained about the Hebrew-speaking believers, saying that their widows were being discriminated against in the daily distribution of food.

When discontent starts occurring this is a sign of ‘lack of leadership’. Every place needs good leaders to be effective. A good leader brings unity to their team, good communication, guidance and vision for the future.

  17. Acts 6:11 Then they secretly persuaded some men to say. We have heard Stephen speak blasphemous words against Moses and against God. So they stirred up the people and the elders and teachers of the law. They seized Stephen and brought him before the Sanhedrin. They produced false witnesses whotestfie. This fellow never stops speaking against this holy place and against the law. Fr we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and change the customs Moseshanded down to us. All who were sitting in the Sanhedrinlooked intently at Stephen and they saw that his face was like the face of an angel.

  18. Act 6:7
7 And the word of God continued to increase, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests became obedient to the faith.
    (ESV)

When we begin to get into His Word it will change the way we live our lives. Our personal goals that we have will be changed to heavenly goals. Why? Because the Word of God gives us a road map to eternity and we can’t but help to share it to every one we know and encounter, and God takes care of the rest. God will increase the number of believers when we share His Word. MORE!

  19. 3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to

We see here the result of good leadership. There was a need at hand they gathered and resolved to appoint other member that would now serve as leaders of the task being given to them. So now these other men are also leaders in the ministry. When everyone does their job then the result is the church grows. It says the number of dusciples multiplied greatly! Everyone counts. No matter the job, it all counts. You could be cleaning the house of God and full of the Holy Ghost being used mightly of God. To God be the glory.

  20. 13 The lying witnesses said, “This man is always speaking against the holy Temple and against the law of Moses. 14 We have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth[c] will destroy the Temple and change the customs Moses handed down to us.”
15 At this point everyone in the high council stared at Stephen, because his face became as bright as an angel’s.

Just as we are learning in “Dreams” from Pastor on Wednesday nights, once a leader there will be others who become jealous and wish to tear you down. Yet don’t fear the Lord has your back!

  21. NLT of Acts 6:1-7
1: But as the believers rapidly multiplied, there were rumblings of discontent. The Greek-speaking believers complained about the Hebrew-speaking believers, saying that their widows were being discriminated against in the daily distribution of food.
2-4: So the Twelve called a meeting of all the believers. They said, “We apostles should spend our time teaching the word of God, not running a food program. And so, brothers, select seven men who are well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will give them this responsibility. Then we apostles can spend our time in prayer and teaching the word.
5-6: Everyone liked this idea, and they chose the following: Stephen (a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit), Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas of Antioch (an earlier convert to the Jewish faith). These seven were presented to the apostles, who prayed for them as they laid their hands on them.
7: So God’s message continued to spread. The number of believers greatly increased in Jerusalem, and many of the Jewish priests were converted, too.

If we, as God’s people, will get involved and take on responsibility and care for the different tasks at hand, this will allow Pastor/the ministers to have time to pray, study, and teach the Word of God. When this happens, the Word of God will spread and MORE souls will be saved and MORE souls will be added unto the church.
We have heard it said, “There’s a job for everyone at POFW.” That’s why we have a job fair. So that, people can get involved in the church.

  22. In this scripture you can clearly see that Stephen was doing the work of the Lord. He was truly a Godly man, and was performing miracles, signs, and wonders. “Looking like Jesus”, and was also persucuted like Jesus. Then the stoning……..although he was not crucified he died for sharing Jesus, and what he believed.

    Reference Verse: John 10:32

  23. 11 Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.

12 And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,

13 And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:

As you speak the word of God, people will rise up against, trying to put you down and bring false testimony against you and find ways to make your life more miserable. In the end, that’s what brought Stephen to be a martyr after all these false accusations against him. But out of every bad circumstance and situation, God can find a way to bring some good out of it. For one of the witnesses to this event was Saul who later became Paul, writer of the majority of the books in the new testament.

So remember in every bad situation, God has a way to turn it around for his glory.

  24. And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

This amazing revival took place after the disciples met a need and took care of business. Once these things were taken care of then the people were blessed.

We must never take for granted the “smaller” jobs in the church. Cleaning, serving, and helping are all necessary, not just for the church but also to open the door for God to do great things.

  25. 2 Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.
3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

We must give our selves daily to God and reach out to the people and be leaders this scripture gives us good examples of how to do that

  26. 3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

This is why it is good for the church to have a higherarcy. Accountability. To do the work of the kingdom. To keep it moving. This is the will of God

  27. “Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.” They were upset with them because they were full of sin. If one is doing what is right and has false accusers then one need not worry, for God (Judge) knows. Dear God, help me to do what is right in your sight; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. In God we trust! What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  28. v 8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

GOD still seeks for people full of faith and power .
Zealous for GOD , and GOD used him mighty.
Even though the people found false witnesses who testified against Stephen I was reminded of today’s study .Thank you Pastor ” The LORD was with Stephen unto the end as HE HAS PROMISED.
No matter what storm or flood we may be going through remember ” THE LORD IS WITH US”
    What comfort thank you JESUS!!!

  29. And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.

Just as pastor has stated, we cannot achieve a dream as one person. We must work with other people. God multipled this ministry because they worked together in one accord submitted to their authority.

  30. 4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

Amen! Praying without ceasing for the enemy is always trying to catch us of guard and come into our lives. Holy Ghost is what gives us that power and authority to defeat and RESIT the devil!!! I will give myself to ministry and be a servant to Gods will! Guide me Jesus everywhere I go Hallelujah!!!

  31. Whenever people are in fellowship with one another, there is potential for problems, complaints and conflicts. First century.. 21st century, time doesn’t matter. In the first century church their is a group of needy people being overlooked and neglected. The concern is clearly to the apostles, and the isdueis dealt with, quickly, fairly and effectively. They gather together and do some problem solving. Notice how these leaders of the early church do not feel themselves have to meet every need and work every job. They know their gifting and call from God is prayer and the ministry of the Word. Under the leading of the Spirit, they call out a new group gifted leaders to meet some of the physical needs that were being negected. The words “wait on” in vs2 translate t g e Greek word from which we derive the word Deacon. This appears to be the beining of the office of a deacon in the church. To wait on or serve others is literally ministry. The first deacon, a woman named Pheobe was mentioned by Paul in Romans 16 along with her character and qualifications.

  32. Tonight’s serman spoke about the accusations that come with leadership. Stephen was a leader. He was accused of many things that got him into great trouble because he was serving tables. The serman slso talked about leaders being servants.

–great way to tie together the new and old testaments.

  33. So the Twelve called a meeting of all the believers. They said, “We apostles should spend our time teaching the word of God, not running a food program. And so, brothers, select seven men who are well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will give them this responsibility. Then we apostles can spend our time in prayer and teaching the word.” Everyone liked this idea, and they chose the following: Stephen (a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit), Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas of Antioch (an earlier convert to the Jewish faith). These seven were presented to the apostles, who prayed for them as they laid their hands on them. So God’s message continued to spread. The number of believers greatly increased in Jerusalem, and many of the Jewish priests were converted, too. (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭6‬:‭2-7‬ NLT)
This is a great example of team work when a problem is presented. Instead of just complaining about what needed to be done, a solution was presented. You should never complain about a problem unless you have a solution to resolve it. There are too many complainers and not enough leaders. If we work as a team we all become leaders. This way we can lead others to Jesus. It’s time to do more, let’s impact this city POFW!

  34. None of them could stand against the wisdom and the Spirit with which Stephen spoke. (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭6‬:‭10‬ NLT)

Stephen tried to preach to the Jews and they were mad at him because they didn’t like him preaching the gospel to them so they killed him because they didn’t want to hear it but they couldn’t resist him because it was to hard for them to Denied Stephen !!!!!

  35. 5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

6 Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

MORE-with more men ministering and overseeing the daily duties of the ministry, the more the word of God increased. We have been encouraged to build teams in each ministry at POFW so we can do MORE! More hands on the plough creates more increase.

  36. 3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

    The power of delegation.

Pastor said it best, to be anything in Gods kingdom you must always be a servant. Servant leadership is powerful and a delegation is one of many powerful tools that can be used.
People are delegated according to there capacity. If you can be faithful in the small things, God can trust you over great things.

  37. Ministry of the Word !!!! 3. Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Ho’-ly Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. 4. But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. Acts 2 : 42 5. And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Ste’-phen, a man full of faith and of the Ho’-ly Ghost, and Phil’-ip, and Proch’-o-rus, and Nica’-nor, and Ti’-mon, and Par’-menas, and Nic’-o-las a proselyte of An’-ti-och: Acts : 8 : 5 6. Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them. Acts 1 : 24 7. And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Je-ru’-sa-lem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith. John 12 : 42 8. And Ste’-phen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people. 9. Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Lib’-er-tines, and Cy-re’-ni-ans, and Alex-an’-dri-ans, and of them of Ci-li’-ci-a and of A’-sia, disputing with Ste’-phen. I Praise you Jesus !!!! I Love you Jesus !!!! I Exalt you Jesus !!!!
