Acts 5

1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.

6 And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.

7 And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.

8 And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.

9 Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.

10 Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

11 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch.

13 And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them.

14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)

15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.

16 There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

17 Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,

18 And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.

19 But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,

20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

21 And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.

22 But when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned and told,

23 Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.

24 Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.

25 Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.

26 Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.

27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,

28 Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.

29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.

31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

33 When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.

34 Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;

35 And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.

36 For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.

37 After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.

38 And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:

39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

40 And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

  1. 12. And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch.

    14. And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)

    15. Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.

    16. There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

    36. For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.

When we boast ourselves to be somebody, it always comes to nought, but when we boast about Jesus; who He is and what He can do, He shows up and proves it.

  2. 37 After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.

These people were trying to stop the work of God, an soon learned this message will not be easy to stop. The Jews did not want to be blamed for crucifying the Lord, but they did not remember saying his blood be on us and our children.
Judas was the smartest of them all, if this is from God, we will not be able to stop.
The truth of the matter is, you can’t stop what God is doing but if this is of man it will run it;s course.
The church of God is moving forward today, alive and well.

  3. The beginning of this chapter spoke to me about Truth. Do not allow yourself to get so far away from that you begin to not only lie to others; but, to yourself (in other words you begin to believe your own lie). The end of verse 4 MSG gives us something to remember where it says “……You weren’t lying to us, but to God.”

The second part of this chapter spoke to me about boldness and obedience. Even though the apostles had been jailed, their boldness and obedience could not be contained. Verse 21 and the beginning of verse 22 MSG reveal this “Go over to the Temple and preach about this Life!” They arrived at the Temple about daybreak and immediately began preaching!……..” No hesitation, no excuses….just “Yes, Lord, to Your Will and to Your Way”! For we must be ready to answer as Peter and the apostles in verse 29 MSG “But Peter and the apostles replied, “We must obey God rather than men.”

  4. 42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

This is what we were called to do, if not obeyed we have missed the mark. Everything and everyone else is second!!! Thank you JESUS!!!

  5. 29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

In today’s world, we are continually told not to talk about JESUS, because it’s offensive. With millions of people around us, we have to be obedient and talk about JESUS everywhere. Some will be pricked in the heart, some will be full of haterade, the HOLY GHOST WILL LEAD US.

  6. Counted worthy

41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

Do we consider ourselves worthy when we receive ridicule for being Pentecostal? Ladies, when asked about your hair and skirts do you proudly proclaim the love of Jesus or brush it off and try not to draw attention to yourselves. I have always found it a bit disheartening that Pentecostal ladies have such a public and obvious declaration to be Holy through their hair, skirts and modest wardrobe. Men do not have these immediate distinctions. It is not that I want to wear a dress or have long hair – no one wants to see that – it is simply it takes the Lord to reveal us or through conversation that Holy men are discovered.

In any downtown building there are men dressed in every level of attire; from suites to uniforms. From the CEO to the elevator repair man, either or both could be holy men, one would not know unless led by the Spirit or through conversation with them. However, simply spotting a long dress and long hair quickly identifies Pentecostal women. Of course, that does not always relate to Holy women of God. So men, how do we stand out?

  7. 27, “And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,”
28, “Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.”
42, “And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.”

Everyday, we need to be a witness for Jesus. We need to FILL the city of Fort Worth with the DOCTRINE of JESUS CHRIST!

    MORE Teaching!
    MORE Preaching!
    MORE Witnessing!

  8. and when they had called in the apostles, they beat them and charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name. And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and preaching that the Christ is Jesus. (‭Acts‬ ‭5‬:‭40-42‬ ESV)

Even through all the trials and the severe beating they still had joy. I’m so thankful for my source -Christ.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. (‭Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭22-23‬ ESV)

  9. MORE REVIVAL

14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)

The choice belonged to the couple. They chose the confessed price, however GOD knew the REAL price. GOD loves us so much that he grants us the opportuntiy to make decisions for ourselves. We must realize that every decision we make GOD knows the choices and the motive behind our decisions.

We learn repeatedly throughout the WORD of GOD that HE blesses HONESTY and SUBMISSION.

What was wrong with the decision of Ananias and Sapphira his wife?

I believe the deadly portion of their decision was the fact that they did not believe.

    1. Chapter 4 ends with the testimony of the disciples selling land and giving the proceeds to the Kingdom of GOD. (37 Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.) This couple were playing “CHURCH”. They were going through the motions of WORSHIP but not really worshipping. They pretended to sacrifice like the rest of the people, however GOD knew better and revealed it to HIS Minister.

    2. The couple was dishonest collectively and individually. Once a commitment is made verbally the next step is to act it out physically. The season or time between the commitment and the action is still room for repentance.

    3. The couple trusted MORE in what they could do with the money than what GOD could do with their money. ( NO FAITH)

While the choices of this couple made for a tragic end to their half hearted, carnal christian life. We see that GOD used HIS own judgment to make believers of others.

Mutitudes came to the Kingdom as the result of GOD judging Ananias and Sapphire.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  10. iLove to eat More Word

But no one else dared to join them, even though all the people had high regard for them. Yet more and more people believed and were brought to the Lord—crowds of both men and women. (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭5‬:‭13-14‬ NLT)

I have always read this portion of scripture and in my mind it is always been confusing. It says that no one joined the church, and then it says many were added. Today I received a little understanding. Becoming a believer is a whole lot different than joining a country club church. It appears that before this incident happened, there were many people coming in among the Christians to just check things out. Once this great judgment Fell upon the church , There were not many wanting to come just to see what was going on. There were however, many who became believers, rooted and grounded in Christ.

  11. 4 But one member, a Pharisee named Gamaliel, who was an expert in religious law and respected by all the people, stood up and ordered that the men be sent outside the council chamber for a while. 35 Then he said to his colleagues, “Men of Israel, take care what you are planning to do to these men! 36 Some time ago there was that fellow Theudas, who pretended to be someone great. About 400 others joined him, but he was killed, and all his followers went their various ways. The whole movement came to nothing. 37 After him, at the time of the census, there was Judas of Galilee. He got people to follow him, but he was killed, too, and all his followers were scattered.

The difference between my God and the false god discussed in verse 35 – 37, they all died but only Jesus Christ had the power to rise from the dead! That same power is avaliable today as well!

  12. 29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

Who do we chose to obey? When you are at work or school and you either read your Bible or get excited and praise God a little, and someone comes by and says, “Hey calm down,” or “Knock it off,” or this one, “Stop you might offend others.” How do you respond? Do you apologize for being a servant of the most high God? I would pray not; we should gladly proclaim we are His Holy Ghost filled Pentecostal children of God!

  13. 29 Peter and the apostles answered, “It’s necessary to obey God rather than men.
Why do we want to please and obey men when men can’t do nothing for us. I’d rather obey God and let God help me when I am in need. So if you are listening to men its time to stop and listen to God!

  14. Act 5:18-20
18 they arrested the apostles and put them in the public prison. 19 But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and brought them out, and said, 20 “Go and stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words of this Life.”
    (ESV)

When life locks us up in prisons of hate, hurt, depression, drugs, alcohol, anger, bitterness, adultery, fornication, financial debts, and we find ourselves alone with no way out and no answers. Remember that God is always there just waiting for us to call on Him. He will bring us out of that situation not so we can say that we were lucky, luck has nothing to do with, it’s because of His BLOOD and MERCY and for His Glory. We must not keep it to ourselves but let everyone know what God has done.

  15. from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:

39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

You cannot stop the hand of God. Whatever thing may raise against, the work and the will of God shall be done. When the work is of the Lord, it shall prevail. Hell shall not prevail against the church. We are more than overcomers. This is why it is extremely important to stay in the boat and under the covering.

  16. How would you like to have this very same anointing in your life. Just by having your shadow fall upon someone, and they be made whole. “Wow”, we need that kind of miracles, signs, and wonder, only “IF” it gives God the glory and him alone. “Not Self”……………………………………………………..

    ______________________________________________
Boy, they sure don’t like it when we say that…Glorious, Wonderful, Powerful, Holy, Awesome, Beautiful, Magnificent, Saving, “NAME”. I’m saying that name “JESUS CHRIST”, I’m not ashamed…….JESUS….JESUS….JESUS….JESUS………

28 Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.
    _______________________________________________
There stood up a man named Gamaliel, who utilized great wisdom, by the study of past history of individuals and there movements. He concluded that if these men were doing the work of God, who could fight against it. And, if these works were not of God, it would come to nothing. So, he “Gamaliel, possibly without knowing it, he stood in the gap for these men. He used good sound wisdom not to fight against God, and observing past history. “CAN’T STOP THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST”, kicking against the pricks can get painful……….

38 And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:

39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

“I want to be in love with Jesus Christ, and obey him, serve him, witness him, sing for him, save souls for him, lay hands for him, share him, acknowledge him, grow in him, him in me.”

FOOTNOTE: But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it..AMEN.

  17. 3Then Peter said, “Ananias, why have you let Satan fill your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit, and you kept some of the money for yourself.

In my last bible study with Juan I covered this story with him even though it’s not in the lesson plan. He found this story really good how a simple little sin can come back and hurt you deeply. But to God there is no little sin they are all equal.

  18. The best way we can reach people is to show off our God, people must see Jesus in us. We are obeying God and reaching out to enlarge the kingdom.

  19. 1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

Ananias and sapphira were judged by God for lying, being selfish, and holding back Gods money. Ananias and Sapphire faith wasn’t were it needs to be even if its the last you have to your name, still give it because it belongs to the Lord. We were brought with a price we aren’t our own persons. Everything that we have its because of God and his mercy. We ought to give willingly and joyfully to God and his kingdom. Its more blessed to GIVE than too RECEIVE!!

  20. 40 And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

Some body say, “All things work together for good”
“For to you it has been granted for Christ’s sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake,” Phil. 1:29
“You will be hated by all because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved. Matt. 10:22

Let us be like the apostoles when the time comes, and rejoice in our suffering for Christ, but not just rejoice but rejoice to be counted worthy to suffer for his sake.

Jesus, me I be found worthy to suffer for your sake.

  21. 29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

We must learn to hear the voice of God. Being under submission will allow us to hear him. Thank you Jesus for a relationship with you.

  22. 9 Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.

I was so arrogant before thinking that I could get away from certain things because “nobody” would look at me doing them but I wouldn’t keep in mind that my God sees and knows it all!!! He knows my heart, my intentions, my situations, etc. I know now to never play with the things of God because their very sacred. The last thing I want to do to is play with the thins of God. My God is a victorious God that has give us that power when we shall recieve the Holy Spirit. Keep your head up in high and always know that God is by our side 🙂

  23. Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him. When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.

And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name. And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ. (‭Acts‬ ‭5‬:‭25, 31-33, 38-39, 41-42‬ KJV)

  24. AMP – 34 But a certain Pharisee in the council (Sanhedrin) named Gamaliel, a teacher of the Law, highly esteemed by all the people, standing up, ordered that the apostles be taken outside for a little while.
35 Then he addressed them [the council, saying]: Men of Israel, take care in regard to what you propose to do concerning these men.
36 For before our time there arose Theudas, asserting himself to be a person of importance, with whom a number of men allied themselves, about 400; but he was killed and all who had listened to and adhered to him were scattered and brought to nothing.
37 And after this one rose up Judas the Galilean, [who led an uprising] during the time of the census, and drew away a popular following after him; he also perished and all his adherents were scattered.
    38 Now in the present case let me say to you, stand off (withdraw) from these men and let them alone. For if this doctrine or purpose or undertaking or movement is of human origin, it will fail (be overthrown and come to nothing);
39 But if it is of God, you will not be able to stop or overthrow or destroy them; you might even be found fighting against God!
40 So, convinced by him, they took his advice; and summoning the apostles, they flogged them and sternly forbade them to speak in or about the name of Jesus, and allowed them to go.
41 So they went out from the presence of the council (Sanhedrin), rejoicing that they were being counted worthy [dignified by the indignity] to suffer shame and be exposed to disgrace for [the sake of] His name.
42 Yet [in spite of the threats] they never ceased for a single day, both in the temple area and at home, to teach and to proclaim the good news (Gospel) of Jesus [as] the Christ (the Messiah).

The wise words of the certain Pharisee was listened to by those in the sanhedrin court. “For if this doctrine or purpose or undertaking or movement is of human origin, it will fail (be overthrown and come to nothing); But if it is of God, you will not be able to stop or overthrow or destroy them; you might even be found fighting against God!”

When God is placing on the hearts of individuals to do something for Him, we do not have to fear the results. If God be for us, who can be against us? We don’t want to be responsible for fighting against what God is doing, so just do what you feel and let the results speak for themselves.

  25. Worthy to suffer

Acts 5:41 So then they went rejoicing from the presence of the council, because they had been considered worthy to suffer indignity on behalf of the name.
Notice the difference in the view of persecution between them and present day Christians. If you read the letters of the early church, they praised the faith of those who were martyred and saw it as an honor. Today, we seem to be overwhelmed with pity. The difference is striking. While it is sad that people suffer for their faith, let us not forget the reward they obtain. Those who are killed bc of their faith are to be honored. They show their love for Christ with their lives. No greater love….

  26. The apostles left the high council rejoicing that God had counted them worthy to suffer disgrace for the name of Jesus. And every day, in the Temple and from house to house, they continued to teach and preach this message: “Jesus is the Messiah.” (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭5‬:‭41-42‬ NLT)

These men were grateful for the suffering they had to endure for Jesus. How often do we rejoice when we suffer? Most of us get upset and want to blame the devil. God allows things to happen in order to glorify Him. We should praise him through the good and the bad. Glory, hallelujah!!!

  27. “But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?” One should first consider the cost, for although man may not know, one should never doubt God (Judge) knows. Dear God, order my steps so that I may be more like you; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. In God we trust! What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  28. 28 Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.
    Mark 13:13
Everyone will hate you because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.

  29. 4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

You may be able to lie to man and get away with it while your hete on earth but you can never lie to God.

  30. 3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

Here we see satan at work. The enemy came to kill, steal, and destroy. Lies ensnare lives everyday. They destroy the lives of the people who tell them and those who are lied to. Lies are nasty, but to try to lie to the Holy Ghost is just plane old–not smart. God already knows everything. He gave you what you do have. It is in our best interests to just be truthful with God because he really does already know it anyway.

  31. 14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)

This is the type of revival we are looking for. We need believesrs added to the work of the ministry. Reaching out to the lost is not a one man show. It’s going to take a collective body to make this happen.

  32. Acts 5:41 (NASB Strong’s)
41 So they went on their way from the presence of the Council, rejoicing that they had been considered worthy to suffer shame for His name.

I am amazed at the way the apostle’s dealt with their situation. Rather than allow what happened to get them down they rejoiced and were praising God that they would be counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

Imagine the thought that they felt special, chosen, and precious to God. They were not only accepting of the suffering but realized how amazing it was for them to go through such things for the glory of God.

  33. Jesus I pray today, for if you can help me lord, for you know me better then I know myself, for you know my heart and my intentions and my situations and my thoughts in my mind and what I think about, for I just ask today is that it hurts me inside that I can’t live without you in my heart and my soul they both hunger, for your love and your word that my mind tells me that I need it more I need you desperately then anything more then whats in this world that try’s to pull me down but I want let this world take me because,I know that you want let anything happen to me God that I know your always there beside me for my toughest parts of my day and you always pull me out of them I thank you Jesus for everything that you’ve done for me in my life!!! In Jesus Name !!!

Romans‬ ‭10‬:‭13‬ For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Romans‬ ‭10‬:‭9‬ That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Luke 22:32 But I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail.

  34. 38Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. 39But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.”

Gamaliel, a Pharisee, said the wisest thing in the presence of the Sanhedrin. Theudas and
Judas the Galilean both seemed to be “somebody”. Like all things that are not of God, they “dispersed” and their teachings will die with them. Buddah, Mohammed, Confucius all died and their graves can be found. Jesus, died, ressurrected, ascended into heaven, and gave us His Spirit, the Holy Ghost and we are his witnesses (v32). The angel of the Lord literally broke them out of jail, and told them to: “God, stand in the temple courts,” he said, “and tell the people all about this new life.” (v20). Against what the religious authorities the apostles recognize that they are merely men “human beings” (vs29). They respected religious authorities, however, they obeyed the Lord.

  35. 20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.
29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

Stand and speak about God and all the awesome things he has and will be doing. Don’t listen to other people because in the end God is the almighty and will judge us on our works for him! 🙂

  36. v29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

    We are obligated
” to obey GOD rather than men” regardless of who may deeply be offended , as were the Jewish leaders.

  37. 18 And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.

19 But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,

20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

Just as they were in jail in the natural sense, sometimes we feel like we have been put into a spiritual jail at some point in our lives, or even right now someone may be going through it. But we gotta remember that it is only temporary, it will last for a season, but if we tarry and wait, God will bring us out of it and bless his people for being faithful.

And when you’re stuck in a situation such as that, we take an example from this chapter. The angel told them to go to the temple after their escape. First of all we need to go a place where we know God lives ( like our church).

But I also believe we must also bring our temple to our prison! For the bible says our bodies our living temples and he lives inside of us.

And the bible gives us several examples of how to do this, one of them being in the book of Daniel and another, later in the book of Acts.

When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were brought before the king for not worshipping his idol, they stood firm, not moving from their stance of the God they served. For they knew God would protect, and I believe as they were thrown into the furnace, they probably praised God as Paul and Silas did in prison, because the fire did not touch them.

Daniel 3:23-25 And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednago fell bound into the burning fiery furnace. Then King Nebuchanezzar was astonished and rose up in haste. He declared to his counselors “Did we not cast three men bound in the fire?” They answered and said to the King “True O king.” He answered and said “But I see four men unbound walking in the midst of the fire and they are not hurt and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods.”

When you praise God, you bring Jesus into your situation and into your prison. And the prison does not feel like a prison anymore. Because it does not matter where you are at, God can bring you through it and on his timing deliver you from the situation that you are in!

  38. 11 great fear came upon all the church…
“Fear pervades every heart, both within and outside. In fact, the presence of God is a serious thing, however great its blessing. The effect of this manifestation of the power of a God present with those whom He acknowledged as His own was very great. Multitudes joined themselves by faith to the confession of the name of the Lord-at least from among the people, for the rest dared not. The more position we have in the world, the more we fear the world which gave it us. This miraculous testimony to the power of God was also displayed in a still more remarkable way, so that people came from far to profit by it.” Commentary by John Darby

  39. Anamias and his wife Sapphira !!!! 1. BUT a certain man named an-a-ni’-as, with Sap- phi’-ra his wife, sold a possession, 2. And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it ,and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3. But Pe’-ter said, An-a-ni’-as, why hath Sa’-tan filled thine heart to lie to the Ho’-ly Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? 5. And An- a-ni’-as hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. 6. And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him. John 19 : 40 9. Then Pe’-ter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spir’-it of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out. Matt. 4 : 7 10. Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband. They were liars and thieves they broke the Commandments.
