Acts 19

1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.

4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

7 And all the men were about twelve.

8 And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.

9 But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.

10 And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.

11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:

12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.

14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.

15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

17 And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.

18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.

19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.

20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

21 After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome.

22 So he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotheus and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season.

23 And the same time there arose no small stir about that way.

24 For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen;

25 Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth.

26 Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:

27 So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth.

28 And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

29 And the whole city was filled with confusion: and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul’s companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre.

30 And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the disciples suffered him not.

31 And certain of the chief of Asia, which were his friends, sent unto him, desiring him that he would not adventure himself into the theatre.

32 Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was confused: and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together.

33 And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander beckoned with the hand, and would have made his defence unto the people.

34 But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

35 And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?

36 Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, ye ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly.

37 For ye have brought hither these men, which are neither robbers of churches, nor yet blasphemers of your goddess.

38 Wherefore if Demetrius, and the craftsmen which are with him, have a matter against any man, the law is open, and there are deputies: let them implead one another.

39 But if ye enquire any thing concerning other matters, it shall be determined in a lawful assembly.

40 For we are in danger to be called in question for this day’s uproar, there being no cause whereby we may give an account of this concourse.

41 And when he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly.

  1. 4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

The word was explicit on saying that they spoke boldly after that the Holy Ghost has come upon them. This is why having the HG is so important, how else can you operate in his will.

The other thing, how Paul ask the two most important questions, giving us the understanding what is needed to be saved. There is no other reason why he would give these two things priority for the disciples to obtain, baptism in Jesus name and receiving the HG.
What more proof do we need to know the apostic faith is the truth of God.

  2. Got to have the Holy Ghost, so you may have power to cast out devils or evil spirits in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen & Amen…..for you can’t even fool the evil spirits. You must be anointed…….. and have authority……….

2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

    “Use that Authority”………………in Jesus name!

  3. 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

7 And all the men were about twelve

They were baptized in the name of the LORD JESUS and as they were also completely pre paired by there response to preachings of John the Baptist they were ready to be baptize in Jesus name. And
When Paul put his hand upon them they received the Holy Spirit . Even though it wasn’t the whole church that was in understanding just 12 understood and revived the gifts and baptized that’s a beautiful thing. Just a notice Paul never stop preaching even after the Jews drew him out of

  4. The synagogue

  5. 16. And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

Still think playing with evil spirits is just a game? No matter how innocent it looks to begin with, that is only a deception by the enemy; it will over-take your life and possibly others. This man only had one evil spirit and almost killed seven men; what if he’d had several, or a legion, like others in the Bible? Once you open the door, it’s hard to close. The good news is, there’s deliverance and power over all enemies in the Name of Jesus!

  6. Verse 4 MSG “That explains it,” said Paul. “John preached a baptism of radical life-change so that people would be ready to receive the One coming after him, who turned out to be Jesus. If you’ve been baptized in John’s baptism, you’re ready now for the real thing, for Jesus.” So many are ready for the real thing, for Jesus. Share the good news with someone today!

  7. 8 And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.

9 But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.

Paul was bold speaking unto those that did not believe what he was preaching. Many hardened their hearts and believed not, and spoke against Paul. This is much like today people are not afraid to speak against things they know nothing about. Let’s stand up and be counted as part of the group that baptize in the name of Jesus Christ, even if the world does not accept this message. It is time for the church to have another Acts experience to show the world Jesus is still alive.

  8. 30. And when Paul would have entered unto the people, the disciples suffered him not.

When there is mass confusion roaring about, it is best just to stay out of it sometimes.

  9. For some people OUTREACH could be a little intimidating. Well, what will I say?? What if they ask questions and I don’t know the answer?? God makes it easy, His answers are always found in His word. Here is the perfect example of what to say, how to say it, and the outcomes of it. I loved going on Outreach can’t wait to be back full force; but until then I pray God will soften the hearts of the lost, so when my Bro & Sis approach them their heart will be pricked with His Holy Word and they will immediately OBEY & follow through. In Jesus Name AMEN.

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

By whose name we get baptized in is very important for there is no other name to get baptized in then the name of Jesus. There is only one name, not several or three names, for Jesus is our God and Lord.

  11. 6 Then when Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in other tongues and prophesied.

    Amen!

  12. Arguments

8 And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.

There is a negative connotation with arguing in our country. The Jews, however, argued and remained friends afterwards in many cases. An argument is a dispute or disagreement with another person or view. I don’t mind arguing with any one, as long as they are thoroughly aware of difference views. Logical arguments and reason can persuade many. Others, however, are set in there ways, and not even God himself would convince them otherwise in this life. It is good to notice the two different types and the sooner the better.

Acts 19:9 NLT But some became stubborn, rejecting his message and publicly speaking against the Way. So Paul left the synagogue and took the believers with him. Then he held daily discussions at the lecture hall of Tyrannus.

Wow, this verse very clearly describes why people post negative things on social media when they get offended. The NLT calls these people stubborn.

    stub·born
    ˈstəbərn
    adjective
having or showing dogged determination not to change one’s attitude or position on something, especially in spite of good arguments or reasons to do so.

According to this scripture, the stubborn can be identified by rejecting the truth and publicly speaking against it. Wow…

Caution to all those who post via social media. It’s not wise to be in the Acts 19 verse 9 club. Just hold those negative thoughts and ask God to reveal the truth to you.

  14. Stay with it!!!

Moreover ye ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:

27 So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth.

29 And the whole city was filled with confusion: and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul’s companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre.

The enemy will always try to intimidate you when there is a mighty move of GOD in your city.
satan purpose is to simply interrupt what JESUS is doing at POFW and in us. “The thief cometh not but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy” only if we allow him access to do so. We need to be aware of his doings at all times and in all things. Don’t be caught off guard.
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. (‭Ephesians‬ ‭6‬:‭11-13‬ KJV)

  15. Acts 19:1-6
1, While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul traveled through the interior regions until he reached Ephesus, on the coast, where he found several believers.
2, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” he asked them. “No,” they replied, “we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
3, “Then what baptism did you experience?” he asked. And they replied, “The baptism of John.”
4, Paul said, “John’s baptism called for repentance from sin. But John himself told the people to believe in the one who would come later, meaning Jesus.”
5, As soon as they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6, Then when Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in other tongues and prophesied.

As a child, I grew up in many denomination of churches. They taught about repentance and baptism. (Baptism was in the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost and sprinkling, not immersion. The only time I heard “of the Holy Ghost” was when it was mentioned in baptism. I didn’t know it was for me.) BUT when I came to a Pentecostal Church, the first message I heard was on Repentance, Baptism in Jesus Name, and the infilling of the Holy Ghost, the Plan of Salvation.
So THANKFUL for Men of God who still teach and preach the Truth of God’s Word and the Plan of Salvation. For there is no other way to be saved then through JESUS Name and the Plan of Salvation.

  16. 3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.

4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
How you are baptized matters! You must understand that if it matters to God it must matter to you! John by himself had a 12 person revival by revealing the truth to those men about who God was and how to be baptized. Jesus said “greater things that this shall we do” if we have the faith to step out and let God use us.

  17. Believe.

The men were asked do they believe. The Ensemble song from Sunday night came to mind.

We’re gonna see what we’re praying for
    We believe every single word
    Stronger than we’ve ever been,
    Standing on his promises,
    We’re gonna see the impossible
    We release the supernatural
    Stronger than we’ve ever been,
We are standing on his promises

What an amazing song and the team did wonderfully bringing us these powerful words. Thank you singers for your sacrifices of time, tallant and treasures.

  18. Act 19:2 — Act 19:6
And he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John’s baptism.”
And Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus.”
On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking in tongues and prophesying.

This is what happens when you preach the truth. It just takes a few simple questions to intrigue some one and the the name of Jesus does the the rest. We will never know what God can do, if we don’t ask. MORE TRUTH! MORE OUTREACH!

  19. 4 Paul said, “John’s baptism called for repentance from sin. But John himself told the people to believe in the one who would come later, meaning Jesus.”
5 As soon as they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 Then when Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in other tongues and prophesied. (NLT)

There are hungry individuals ready for the truth! Let’s go find them in Jesus Name!

  20. 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

There are many ” believers” out there. Yet many don’t know about the Holy Ghost. This is why we must be actively telling everyone that we come into contact with. Because most don’t know that there is a Holy Ghost.

  21. MORE APOSTLES DOCTRINE

Clearer than ever before in my walk with JESUS of almost 27 years, I NOW see the deeper value of being strong in doctrine. Doctrine is under attack in our society, just as it was in the days of the disciples walking the face of the earth. Emotional pain will occasionally result from sound doctrine for those that we love and respect who have never received or embraced the APOSTLES DOCTRINE.

The Apostle Paul warned years ago:

Galatians 1:6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

    Paul preached in Acts 19
    Repentance
    Baptism in JESUS name
Receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost

    MORE JESUS
    MORE PREACHING
    MORE JOY

    iBelieve
    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    IReap

  22. 11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:
12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

Hallelujah!!! This is our church…it has been prophesied that people are going to be coming from all over to get healed and cast demons out. That is the great power and The Lord Jesus Christ but we must be prepared for the harvest by prayer and fasting. “But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” Matt 17:21
MORE MIRACLES AND WONDERS are yet to come everything for the glory and honor of Jesus Christ 🙂

  23. 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus

Another scripture affirmed by the apostles of the need to be born again of the water and of the Spirit. These believes had already been baptized but not in the name of the Lord Jesus. They were told about the Holy Spirt and the need to receive it and were baptized the right way. There are many out there that are willing to listen and obey once it is explained acts 2:38 and John 3:5.

  24. 8 And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.

9 But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.

By patiently going through scriptures line by line, Paul was able to convert enough men to start meeting in a school. They way I’ve heard that the Jewish people study scripture today is to go verse by verse and thoroughly discuss each verse one at a time by each person in the study group. They look at the verse on many different levels to be certain to derive the correct meaning. Maybe this is how they did it in Paul’s day too and why it took so long. Either way, God knows those that are his and he waits patiently on them to come to him today. They need us to be sensitive to the Spirit & ready to teach when they are ready to listen & learn.

  25. 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.

4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

If you believe it, you can receive it!! No matter what the problem may be just believe in God, and you will receive your victory!!

  26. 13 Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, “In the name of the Jesus whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out.” 14 Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. 15 One day the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you?” 16 Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding.

Why couldn’t they cast out demons like Paul? Basically they only had heard of Jesus, but did not have a personal relationship like Paul did. Jesus wants us have a personal relationship with him. Many people have heard of Jesus, but are still lost because they have no personal relation with Jesus. Once you have the personal relationship, you will have the authority to use his name, to cast out demons and heal people.

  27. Acts 19:6-7 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. And all the men were about twelve.

  28. Acts 19:27-28 (Literal Translation of the Holy Bible – LITV)
27 And not only is this dangerous to us, lest our part come to be in contempt, but also the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be counted nothing, and her majesty is also about to be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worships. 28 And having heard, and having become full of anger, they cried out, saying, Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!

Artemis was the savior of the Greek world according to their beliefs. She aided in child birth, supported fertility, and was even on their money. The temple of Artemis was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.

People traveled from all over to see its magnificence. A great crowd shouted for hours about her greatness. It would seem that the Christian people would lose this battle.

However today the temple is in ruins, and the idols have been hidden. Those who supported that religion are long gone, and Artemis is confined to the pages of a history book.

Yet the cause of Christ continues to grow, and its adherents get stronger daily. Many are being converted by the thousands and it lives on after over a thousand years.

Don’t worry about what others say. Trust in the Lord and he will come through. His word cannot lie!

  29. “Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was confused: and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together.” They were unwilling and unwise, for they blindly followed the crowd. One would be wise to study the word of God (Jesus) and pray for understanding, which includes the things that are taking place today, and not just blindly follow and listen to the crowd. Dear God, open my eyes and ears so that I am not deceived into thinking a lie; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In God we trust”. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  30. “Some itinerant Jewish exorcists who happened to be in town at the time tried their hand at what they assumed to be Paul’s “game.” They pronounced the name of the Master Jesus over victims of evil spirits, saying, “I command you by the Jesus preached by Paul!” The seven sons of a certain Sceva, a Jewish high priest, were trying to do this on a man when the evil spirit talked back: “I know Jesus and I’ve heard of Paul, but who are you?” Then the possessed man went berserk—jumped the exorcists, beat them up, and tore off their clothes. Naked and bloody, they got away as best they could.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭19:13-16‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Sure there are plenty of people that can sweet talk their way through any biblical discussion but when it comes down to it, if you don’t have the power of His Holy Spirit then you’re just blowing a bunch of hot air. These men thought it was only words that made the difference, but it was much more. When you have the spirit of God inside of you, you’re capable of more- much MORE!

  31. 1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
pual said we should die daily I believe that very strongly so we should spke in tongues daily if at all possisble

  32. Greeks and Jews living in Ephesus openly repented and those who practiced sorcery burned their scrolls publicly. They decided to give their lives over to Christ. In doing so they changed themselves and they changed the market of idolatry. The idol makers became angry because Paul had said that “man-made gods were not gods at all” (vs26). The enemy became afraid that the preaching of Paul would change their lively hoods. They made a good income from the buisness of making their own gods. Why would they want to give everything up to serve a God who controls everything? When new believers begin to change their lives oposition will certainly rise up against them. We can be their to lead them in the gospel.

  33. “And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God. But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus. And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks. And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭19:8-11‬ ‭KJV

Many times people focus on the special miracle that were wrought by Paul’s hands but it is important for us to see what happened first. We need to realize that Paul spoke for three months in one place and then for two years in another place so that the word for God was spread to everyone. The key is that there word of God was spread. After the word went out to all then it talks about the miracles that happened by way of Paul’s hands.

  34. 8 And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.

9 But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.

Not everyone is going in the direction that Jesus is leading the church. We must be wise enough to know when its time to separate ourselves and shake the dust off our feet from those that are not on board.

The wheat and tare grows together, but that doesn’t mean that we have to be influenced by the tare. If they are not in tune with the Spirit of God, working in unity with the vision of the house and the man of God, then we must be willing to shake loose and go on.

  35. There is nothing like experiencing the power of the Holy Ghost for the first time. It’s a change you can feel and the feeling is good. When the Holy Ghost gets a hold of you, you won’t walk or talk the same if you allow it take control. Too many times we try to only allow the Holy Ghost to take control when we need something from God. We should always allow God to be in front to lead us and we not hesitate to follow.

  36. Acts 19:8-10
Paul begun teaching in Ephesus for two years, he rounded up young man and trained them in the lecture hall of Tyrannus . in those 2 years Luke says that everyone in Asia Minor heard the word of the Lord. Acts 19:10
It is important for us to get equip by word and seminars or whatever we can so that we may be good leaders just as the young man Paul trained.
