Genesis 50

1 And Joseph fell upon his father’s face, and wept upon him, and kissed him.

2 And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father: and the physicians embalmed Israel.

3 And forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of those which are embalmed: and the Egyptians mourned for him threescore and ten days.

4 And when the days of his mourning were past, Joseph spake unto the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,

5 My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have digged for me in the land of Canaan, there shalt thou bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee, and bury my father, and I will come again.

6 And Pharaoh said, Go up, and bury thy father, according as he made thee swear.

7 And Joseph went up to bury his father: and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,

8 And all the house of Joseph, and his brethren, and his father’s house: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen.

9 And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen: and it was a very great company.

10 And they came to the threshingfloor of Atad, which is beyond Jordan, and there they mourned with a great and very sore lamentation: and he made a mourning for his father seven days.

11 And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, This is a grievous mourning to the Egyptians: wherefore the name of it was called Abelmizraim, which is beyond Jordan.

12 And his sons did unto him according as he commanded them:

13 For his sons carried him into the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field for a possession of a buryingplace of Ephron the Hittite, before Mamre.

14 And Joseph returned into Egypt, he, and his brethren, and all that went up with him to bury his father, after he had buried his father.

15 And when Joseph’s brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him.

16 And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying,

17 So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.

18 And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.

19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?

20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.

22 And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father’s house: and Joseph lived an hundred and ten years.

23 And Joseph saw Ephraim’s children of the third generation: the children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were brought up upon Joseph’s knees.

24 And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

25 And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.

26 So Joseph died, being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

  1. v19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of GOD?
v21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comfoforted them, and spake kindly unto them.

We see that Joseph’s brothers were fearful . They thought Joseph would change his mind and repay them for all he had suffered. If only they had known that the joy that was set before him kept him during the times of difficulty. There is joy in following the leadership of the Holy GHOST.

When we find ourselves in troubled and fearful times all we have to do is believe in HIS WORD .JESUS ‘ WORDS HAVE ALL AUTHORITY AND POWER.
HIS WORD IS FULL OF GRACE AND TRUTH.
When we are troubled we too can say with great peace in our hearts as
Thomas uttered ” My LORD and my God” John 20:28

    MORE WORD !!!

  2. Mistakes.

I know that sometimes we make bad mistakes. Sometimes they are fixable sometimes they’re not. I pray that God can turn my heart aches into joy, if it would be His will. I know that Joseph sons made a mistake. A very big mistake. And it seemed to me that it was too late to be fixed. I’ve been in situations like that before. But the grace of God changed them into a love relationship with Him even closer. And I’ve learned.

    Thankyou Lord for your Word.

  3. In reading this chapter, two things came to mind…..Following through on your word and letting God be God. It is so important to follow through on your word and not make promises you cannot either keep or won’t. Joseph had made a promise to his father and he followed through completely. He also let God take care of his hurt, his pain as he told his brother’s in verses 19-21 AMP “But Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid, for am I in the place of God? [Vengeance is His, not mine.] As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present outcome, that many people would be kept alive [as they are this day]. So now, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and support you and your little ones.” So he comforted them [giving them encouragement and hope] and spoke [with kindness] to their hearts.”

  4. THANK YOU JESUS!!!

20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

    Romans 8:28
For we know that ALL things work together for the good of those who are called according to HIS purpose.

My DADDY IS GOOD ANNNNND HE’S got EVERYTHING UNDER CONTROL!!! HALELUJAH!!! THANK YOU JESUS!!! YOU ARE FAITHFUL A DADDY!!!

  5. Good relations

6 And Pharaoh said, Go up, and bury thy father, according as he made thee swear.

As children of God we should have the best relations with everyone. This is sometimes easier to say than do but it should be a goal to be a trustworthy person. Here, Joseph needed to take some time off from work to take his father and bury him. Because of his relationship with his employer there was no issue with his request.

I have had both relations with employers. Due to immaturity, I have had times where my intentions were questioned. Life is so much easier when people trust what you say.

  6. 18. And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.

    19. And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?

    21. Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.

One again we see his dreams coming true as his brothers kneel before him, and as before he deals kindly with them. Authority does not have to be revealed in arrogance, cruelty, or revenge.

  7. 20 You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people. (NLT)

We may not see all the good intentions God has until the end when we look back and say, “oh wow, God, You did that!” We may not understand everything that’s happening in the moment but it’s in such times when we need to trust God the most and really elevate our faith to realize God intends it all for our good and His glory.

  8. MORE HOPE

At his death, Joseph offered MORE HOPE to the children of Israel. Joseph recognized that the children of Israel had placed their confidence in him, rather than GOD. As Christian Leaders we must be careful to direct all attention, trust and credit to GOD.

Joseph recognized the concern of the children of Israel and prophesied that GOD would SURELY visit them.

This is the HOPE of every believer, GOD will SURELY visit us in the 2nd coming. When the TRUMP of the LORD sounds and time shall be no more.

The LORD will visit us and bring us out of this land!

  9. iLove to eat More Word
“Then Joseph made the sons of Israel swear an oath, and he said, “When God comes to help you and lead you back, you must take my bones with you.””
    ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭50:25‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Wow, it would be a promise of that would take 400 years to fulfill. The fulfillment is found in the Book of Exodus.
“Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for Joseph had made the sons of Israel swear to do this. He said, “God will certainly come to help you. When he does, you must take my bones with you from this place.

  10. 20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

Joseph came to a place of maturity that he realized that God had turned the unfortunate situation his brothers placed him in, into a situation that God could use him to sustain an entire nation during a famine.

The question today is what can God use us for? Can the spiritual bread that we partake of everyday sustain another individual when given to them or are we too shallow in our relationship that we barely feed ourselves and have nothing to give to others?

It’s time for us to mature and realize that even in a bad situation, God can use it to mature us and use it to feed others.

  11. 5 My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have digged for me in the land of Canaan, there shalt thou bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee, and bury my father, and I will come again.

6 And Pharaoh said, Go up, and bury thy father, according as he made thee swear.

When you make a promise, always keep it and fulfil your promise, otherwise you’ll be sinning if yoiu don’t.

  12. 20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people

You never know what God has up his sleeve.

    Isaiah 55
7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
8 For my thoughts [are] not your thoughts, neither [are] your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
9 For [as] the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

His wisdom is greater than we can comprehend

17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, THE ONLY WISE GOD…..

We don’t have to understand everything that God is doing in our lives. All we have to do is have faith in him and trust him. He knows what he’s doing.

  13. True Forgiveness

20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.

True forgiveness is not “I forgive you” but the treatment that comes after. Joseph showed by his kindness and comfort that he forgave his brothers from his heart. Lord teach us to forgive and treat me ach other with kindness and everlasting love.

  14. 20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

AMEN!!! EVERYTHING that Jesus does is for our good. There is nothing that God will make us go thru that we cant bare. Jesus is the answer and the light, He is my strength and I will keep my eyes on Him. Hallelujah!!!!

  15. Love is all that Joseph had for his brothers. Love was all that he gave. There was no more hate or evil for his brothers. Not no more. In leadership sometimes it’s hard to let things go. Sometimes it’s easy….

  16. 2 And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father: and the physicians embalmed Israel.

Josephs servants were healers. They were called by they’re skill and ability to do what needed to be done. They were called to preserve Israel.

This is God’s chosen people. We, as servants of the most high God, are called to preserve , pray for, bless this great nation. Though tumultuous times are brewing, the nation of Israel will be preserved. Hallelujah!

  17. 18 And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.

I find it amazing how when Joseph came to this foreign land, he was not shown so much kindness, and yet he makes sure that his family is not treated in the same way. He cares for them dearly and makes sure they have everything they could possibly need. He loves them as God loves them. It’s beautiful.

  18. 20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

The experiences in Joseph’s life taught him that God brings good from evil for those who trust him . Do you trust God enough to wait patiently for him to bring good out of bad situations ???

  19. Gen. 50:20-21
    20) But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.
    21) Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.

What can we learn from Joseph in these scriptures?
One, we have to keep a right attitude. If we can remember that everything we go through, whether good or bad, God means it for our good.
Two, we can learn how to treat those who have hurt or wronged us. Joseph nourished them, comforted them, and spoke kindly to them. Are we not, as the children of God, suppose to love our enemies, bless them, do good to them, and pray for them? St. Matt. 5:44-45a says, “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefullly use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven.. ”

Rom. 12:21, “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”
Remember, it’s all in the attitude. You are an Overcome!

  20. 20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

    Everything happens for a reason

  21. 15But now that their father was dead, Joseph’s brothers became fearful. “Now Joseph will show his anger and pay us back for all the wrong we did to him,” they said.

It seems like the brothers were relying on their father Jacob for protection. They failed to realize Joseph had forgiven them already. Apparently none of the brothers went directly to Joseph and ask for forgiveness. If you do something wrong, go to that person and ask for forgiveness. It’s simple and both parties can move forward in life.

  22. 19-21 Joseph replied, “Don’t be afraid. Do I act for God? Don’t you see, you planned evil against me but God used those same plans for my good, as you see all around you right now—life for many people. Easy now, you have nothing to fear; I’ll take care of you and your children.” He reassured them, speaking with them heart-to-heart. (MSG)

  23. And when the days of his mourning were past, Joseph spake unto the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,

The greatest leaders are the greatest followers. We see here Joseph’s example of leadership after the passing of his father. He was great and mighty in the land but still respected who was above him and asked for permission to go and take care of his personal things and his loss. You may think his father died he should just be allowed to go take care of his things and surely he should tve difference is how he recognized the authority in his life this is what kept him with great authority.

  24. God will surely come to your aid
This phrase is repeated twice .Joseph died confident that God would bring the people of Israel back. To the land that he had promised to give to Abraham’s offspring. In life and in death we have the same certain hope. God.will keep his promise to us

  25. 17 So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.
18 And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.

Becoming a servant is a humbling experience. We must confess our faults to God and become his servants. A willing heart and right attitude.

  26. It is important for us to forgive. We cannot continue to hold things against our brethren and expect God to be ok with that. By us forgiving them, we lift that burden from off our shoulders which will allow us to love and move on.

  27. 15 And when Joseph’s brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him.

Joseph’s brothers mistakenly thought Joseph was more loyal to his father than His God. They thought that Joseph was holding back his anger from them because his father was still alive yet in reality it was because his Heavenly Father was alive in him.

Many will do us wrong and will mistakenly believe that we are waiting for the right moment to get revenge. Yet in reality we are “in the place of God” There is no need for any to worry about our punishment but His punishment.

  28. 20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.
the scripture reveals to us that God always have a purpose in our life that he does things for a reason and that he allows things to happen for a reason we realize this and our lives the longer we live when we look back at things that have happened and we see the way that God brought us out of situations we realize that what the devil meant for evil God meant for good..

  29. Gen. 50:20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me ; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

    God is always my protector!

  30. “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.” Joseph had forgiven his brothers, however they were fearful and miserable; for they had done wrong. One need only too do what is right, for the Judge (Jesus) will take care of the wrong. Dear God, forgive me of my wrong so that I may be right in your sight; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In GOD we trust”. “One Nation under GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”. What a mighty GOD we serve! Thank GOD for his word. GOD bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in JESUS name, Amen!

  31. Genesis 50:24 (KJV Strong’s)

24 And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

The Egyptians escorted Israel the man out of Egypt with favor and provisions. The second time Israel the people would leave being led by Moses after many plagues, signs, and wonders.

This was the beginning of a 400 year plan God was concocting. The iniquity of the Amorites was not yet full. It wasn’t time for the children of Israel to return yet because God was setting them up for a testimony that would rock the world.

This encourages me to hold on, and let God have his way. He will work it out with an ultimate perfect end in mind. The whole world was about to know the God of Israel.

  32. Through out the whole chapter there was respect for the dead, for keeping your promise, and hope for the future. I mean that is what we lack today. For the most part your word means nothing to the world. Things were so much better then, men kept their promises.
Vs. 5 ‘ My father made me swear, saying, “Behold, I am dying; in my grave which I dug for myself in the land of Canaan, there you shall bury me.” Now there for, please let me go up and bury my father, and I will come back.’ ”
Vs. 6 And Pharaoh said, “Go up and bury your father, as he made you swear.”
Yeah Joseph could’ve lied, ‘Thinking yeah I’m out as soon as my father is buried.’, but he didn’t need to cause Pharaoh kept his word. See this is where we need to be, it’s all good trusting in God, but we also need to be able to trust what each person says. Who are we without our word as being trustworthy. We are nothing without our word. Think about it!!!!!

  33. “And Pharaoh said, Go up, and bury thy father, according as he made thee swear. And Joseph went up to bury his father: and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,”
    ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭50:6-7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

What a honor for Joseph this must have been! The Egyptians did not really know his father as his father was new to the land, but out of respect and honor to Joseph Pharaoh sent great numbers of people and things to show the morning of his father. Also it says that the all of Egypt mourned for it. This would not happen unless all of the people loved and respected Jospeh just like Pharaoh.

  34. Joseph embalmed Israel. This was an Egyptian practice. Egyptian customs affected him. The officials of Egypt mourned with him. His had influence over Egypt. The church today is lacking this. It is influenced by secularism but is losing influence on secularism.

  35. “Joseph replied, “Don’t be afraid. Do I act for God? Don’t you see, you planned evil against me but God used those same plans for my good, as you see all around you right now—life for many people. Easy now, you have nothing to fear; I’ll take care of you and your children.” He reassured them, speaking with them heart-to-heart.”
    ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭50:19-21‬ ‭MSG‬‬

In every pit of darkness there is light to be found. Although this plan was meant to destroy Joseph, he was instead molded into something much greater.

  36. 19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?

20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.

I love how Joseph even though how his brothers did all that bad stuff to him showed forgiveness to them. With all that power he had, he could have made their life miserable. But I believe that it was the love of God he had in his heart that made him the man that he was. God showed him favor everywhere and in every situation. I believe he was so humble when he told them that the evil that they thought against him, God meant it for good.
This is very encouraging, because he can use the bad situations in my life to help someone else through my testimony later down the line. ( please excuse the grammar)

  37. 19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?

20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.

I love how Joseph just forgave his brothers, sometimes our fears are misplaced and what we think is going to be the outcome isn’t the case at all. Yes Joseph was 2nd in the land of Egypt and he could have made his brothers life real miserable. But he didn’t and I believe he showed them humility, and love!

  38. 19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?

20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.

I love how Joseph forgave his brothers with out any hostility, he was #2 in Egypt and could have really made his brothers life miserable. I believe he showed humility and love. A lot of time we think the outcome is gonna come out a certain way and its not that way at all. But God is so good, he has a knack at taking all the bad that I’ve ever done or that has been done to me, and useing it for his Glory. He is an amazing God!!!

  39. 19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?

20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.
I love how Joseph had a forgiving nature! With him being #2 he could have made his brothers so miserable but he didn’t. I believe a lot of times we already have a preconceived notion on what an out come is going to be, and its usually never right. I love how God takes the bad in our life and uses it for Good and even if its done against us, the only one who gets the Glory is God!

  40. This is so embarrassing, I tried so many different times to post my comment and it wouldn’t post. And so I decided to use my fb and now it posted all the comments, Please forgive me this is so embarrassing.

  41. 6 And Pharaoh said, Go up, and bury thy father, according as he made thee swear.

Never make an oath and break it. It is so easy to make a promise and not keep it. Our challenge is in making difficult promises that push us to be accountable.

The only exception is an oath to the devil. Ecc. 9:4 we understand that with God, while we have life, we have hope. We have been chosen from the beginning, how can he call us his if we belong to God.

Let us life daily keeping his promises.

  42. “But Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Do you think I’m God? You planned to harm me. But God planned it for good. He planned to do what is now being done. He wanted to save many lives. “So then, don’t be afraid. I’ll provide for you and your children.” He set them free from their fears. And he spoke in a kind way to them.”
    ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭50:19-21‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

Forgiveness is so powerful. It completely changes your perspective on life challenges that have been thrown the way.

  43. “‘Thus you shall say to Joseph: “I beg you, please forgive the trespass of your brothers and their sin; for they did evil to you.” ’ Now, please, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of your father.” And Joseph wept when they spoke to him.”(Genesis‬ ‭50:17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

We must be ready as children of God to forgive all that injure us, yet we must especially take heed of bearing malice that is in this world. There’s broken spirits that must be bound up and encouraged out in this world that need our help and that are going through things that they can manage to fight on there own, those we love and forgive, we must not only do well for, but speak kindly to.love and forgive, we must not only do well for, but speak kindly to. In Jesus Name Amen !!!

  44. We see some special acts of kindness from the Egyptians here. First they mourned for Israel after his death and embalment, Pharaoh allows Joseph to go up and bury his father in Canaan and sends ‘all’ of his servants with him. This is not the same behavior found in the Exodus, but to see the Egyptians here mourning for Israel strikes me as odd. God promised Abraham that he would bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you; and all the peoples on earth will be blessed through you (Gen 12:3). Despite the fact the Egyptians were a worldly nation they respected Joseph and his divinely given position as second in command. Egypt was blessed because of Joseph and his family and it won’t be until they enslave the Israelite nation that they become cursed. We have to be careful who we bless and curse because God will always honor his promise and covenant.
