Exodus 19

1 In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai.

2 For they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the desert of Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount.

3 And Moses went up unto God, and the Lord called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel;

4 Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself.

5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:

6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

7 And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the Lord commanded him.

8 And all the people answered together, and said, All that the Lord hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the Lord.

9 And the Lord said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto the Lord.

10 And the Lord said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to day and to morrow, and let them wash their clothes,

11 And be ready against the third day: for the third day the Lord will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.

12 And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death:

13 There shall not an hand touch it, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, it shall not live: when the trumpet soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount.

14 And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.

15 And he said unto the people, Be ready against the third day: come not at your wives.

16 And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled.

17 And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.

18 And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.

19 And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice.

20 And the Lord came down upon mount Sinai, on the top of the mount: and the Lord called Moses up to the top of the mount; and Moses went up.

21 And the Lord said unto Moses, Go down, charge the people, lest they break through unto the Lord to gaze, and many of them perish.

22 And let the priests also, which come near to the Lord, sanctify themselves, lest the Lord break forth upon them.

23 And Moses said unto the Lord, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai: for thou chargedst us, saying, Set bounds about the mount, and sanctify it.

24 And the Lord said unto him, Away, get thee down, and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee: but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto the Lord, lest he break forth upon them.

25 So Moses went down unto the people, and spake unto them.

  1. Once again we see specific instructions in what God commanded Moses and the people to do. In doing so, the Lord revealed himself at Sinai. What an awesome sight and sound that must have been at the foot of that mountain. Some want to climb to the top as fast as they can (job/success wise, climbing the ladder or getting ahead), but; waiting and following instructions to what the Lord wants for you is crucial to your salvation.

  2. Exodus 19:5-6
    5) Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:
    6) And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

    1 Peter 2:9-10
    9) But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.
    10) Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

Thank You Jesus that we have obtained mercy, and we are your people!

    We are ….
    A Chosen Generation
    A Royal Priesthood
    A Holy Nation
    A Peculiar People

  3. 18 All of Mount Sinai was covered with smoke because the Lord had descended on it in the form of fire. The smoke billowed into the sky like smoke from a brick kiln, and the whole mountain shook violently.
19 As the blast of the ram’s horn grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God thundered his reply. (NLT)

    WOW!!!

  4. obedience and separation.

Their obedience gave them the opportunity to become His “peculiar people” and their sanctification would allow Him to reveal Himself to them. It would be wise for us to always remember that God requires obedience and separation.

  5. Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:

If you live for a kingdom relieved to be close to his heart

  6. 5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:
6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

5-6 If you will listen obediently to what I say and keep my covenant, out of all peoples you’ll be my special treasure. The whole Earth is mine to choose from, but you’re special: a kingdom of priests, a holy nation. MSG

In a world of over 7 billion people, to be a chosen, a special treasure, a priest and a holy nation is something special. Sometimes in the heat of the battle of life we can forget how special we are to the Lord. I know that I have forgotten plenty of times.

  7. 5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:

It is so important to know who your listening too. Many voices fill our world , be quick to hear slow to speak.. Your spiritual life will depend on it.

  8. OBEDIENCE IS OUR PATH

We have been privileged to see many acts of GOD. Salvations, Miracles, Signs and Wonders. Our LORD JESUS has BLESSED us with these testimonies. Each of us have a testimony of how JESUS brought us out or kept us out of destructive situations. These testimonies are to inspire and encourage us to continue walking in the LORD.

The LORD JESUS promises in verse 5. If we will obey HIS voice, keep HIS covenant, we are a peculiar TREASURE unto HIM above all people.

What an inspiring, motivating promise! I pray we are committed to following the LORD and living in OBEDIENCE to HIS Covenant!

    BE BLESSED

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  9. 5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:

6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel

Obedince is the key to victory!

  10. 22 And let the priests also, which come near to the Lord, sanctify themselves, lest the Lord break forth upon them.

We cant just go in his presence any kind of way, that’s why God wanted the priests to be sanctified before they came on the mount. I cant go to God just any kind of way, I have to make sure that my heart is right, by repentance, and I need to be humble. God is so GRACIOUS!!

  11. Exodus 19:10 And Lord said to Moses, Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow. Have them wash their clothes and be ready by the third day because on that day the Lord will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people. Put limits for the people around the mountain and tell them. Be careful that you do not approach the mountain or touch the foot of it. Whoever touches the mountain is to be put to death. They are to be stoned or shot with arrows not a hand is ti be laid on them. No person or animal shall be permitted to live; Only when the ram’ s both sounds a long blast may they approach the mountain.

  12. Exodus 19:23 (KJV Strong’s)

23 And Moses said unto the Lord, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai: for thou chargedst us, saying, Set bounds about the mount, and sanctify it.

Where does the mountain begin? At what point did it become disobedience as you step toward the mountain. God said the people who touched it would die. How can anyone know for sure where the boundaries are?

Moses set the boundaries. He made it plain where the people could and couldn’t go.

The Pastor, the man of God is appointed by God to set the boundaries. These are the places that are off limits. These boundaries are set by the angel of the church and may be different than another pastor’s boundaries. However God honors these boundaries, and will bless those who abide by them.

Thank God for a Pastor that establishes boundaries.

Exodus 19:6-9 NLT And you will be My kingdom of priests, My holy nation.’ This is the message you must give to the people of Israel.” (7) So Moses returned from the mountain and called together the elders of the people and told them everything the LORD had commanded him. (8) And all the people responded together, “We will do everything the LORD has commanded.” So Moses brought the people’s answer back to the LORD. (9) Then the LORD said to Moses, “I will come to you in a thick cloud, Moses, so the people themselves can hear Me when I speak with you. Then they will always trust you.” Moses told the LORD what the people had said.

God used Moses as an intercessor for the people. God spoke through Moses and Moses spoke to the people in the behalf of God. God desires to use his people to make intercession for a lost and dying world.

  14. And the Lord said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to day and to morrow, and let them wash their clothes,

We must come clean and lift up holy hands into God. We must check ourselves first in order to come into his presence.

  15. “As Moses went up to meet God, GOD called down to him from the mountain: “Speak to the House of Jacob, tell the People of Israel: ‘You have seen what I did to Egypt and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to me. If you will listen obediently to what I say and keep my covenant, out of all peoples you’ll be my special treasure. The whole Earth is mine to choose from, but you’re special: a kingdom of priests, a holy nation.’ “This is what I want you to tell the People of Israel.””

Those that obey His word are even more precious in His sight

  16. ;

The Lord loves those who obey him and will make them a special peculiar people a treasure in His sight.

  17. 4 Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself.

5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:

  18. To Meet with God

17 And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.

Thank God for a Pastor that not only hears from God but will take us to him!

  19. 5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:

What a blessing if they obey! It sounds fantastic. If only they will obey and do what he says. If only we all could. . .

  20. 5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: 6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

The word of God (Jesus) as we read stated that they were a chosen people, however they were also required to obey; “And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death”. One should recognize that the Creator (Jesus) has boundaries, which one that is wise will respect. Dear God, forgive us (me) of times of not heeding your boundaries; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In God we trust”. “One Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  21. Access

6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

    Exodus 19:21-22 AMP
Then the Lord spoke to Moses, “Go down, warn the people, so that they do not break through [the barriers around the mountain] to the Lord to see [Me], and many of them perish [as a result].

Also have the priests who approach the Lord consecrate (sanctify, set apart) themselves for My sacred purpose, or else the Lord will break forth [in judgment] against them [and destroy them].”

As a nation of priests, Israel would have only so much access to the Lord. They would be sanctified, holy unto Him, in order to serve Him and please Him, but they lacked free entrance into His presence. The law stated that only once a year the high priest would enter the Holy of Holies in the tabernacle to make a sacrifice for the sins of the entire nation so that their sins would be rolled back for the coming year. It was brief to consider one man’s single, yearly encounter on behalf of an entire nation. Access to God’s inner court may be one of the lesser realized and celebrated works of Calvary. We jump at forgiveness of sins but another, great miracle appears as almost a minor, passing detail:

    Matthew 27:50-51
50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.

    51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

The veil that covered the entrance to the Holy of Holies was torn just after Jesus gave up His life on the cross. Access to Him in a much more intimate way was suddenly being opened. Life for the born again believer was far different than the Exodus account of God warning Moses to keep the people back lest they die:

    Hebrews 4:14-16
14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

  22. Exodus 19:5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:
6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

We have been called out. We have been called to be separate. We are a peculiar and chosen people. Come out from among them and be ye separate! We werent meant to fit in!! We were called to be holy!!! Hallelujah!

  23. 4 Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself.

5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:

6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel

Jesus had a reason for saving them from slaveiry , now he was ready to tell them . They were to become a holy nation , a kingdom of preists in witch anyone could approach God freely . See good had extended his plan to all believers , we are to become holy , a royal preist hood , as we see the death and resurrection of Christ has allowed us to approach God freely .

  24. 12 And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death:

13 There shall not an hand touch it, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, it shall not live: when the trumpet soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount.

God has always had boundaries for his people to live within, and there are consequences if you go beyond the boundaries that have been established. Unfortunately too many times people don’t see the consequences until it’s too late. Once the boundaries have been removed, they think they have a time of freedom, but satan always paints a picture that is beautiful, but behind the facade, but when ti’s time to accept the consequences of removing those boundaries, the picture is not as pretty.

  25. And all the people answered together, and said, All that the Lord hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the Lord.

This is the attitude that we should possess when the man of God speaks into our lives. No hesitation. No reservations. Just obedience. If we truly trust him then it is easy. If you don’t trust him it is revealed in these times. Let us unify and see what Gid will do!

  26. “The Lord said to Moses, “Go to the people. Today and tomorrow set them apart for me. Have them wash their clothes. Have the people ready by the third day. On that day I will come down on Mount Sinai. Everyone will see it.”
    ‭‭Exodus‬ ‭19:10-11‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

The Lord desires us to be set apart and holy. We must present ourselves a holy and living sacrifice.
