2 Kings 11

1 And when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal.

2 But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king’s sons which were slain; and they hid him, even him and his nurse, in the bedchamber from Athaliah, so that he was not slain.

3 And he was with her hid in the house of the Lord six years. And Athaliah did reign over the land.

4 And the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetched the rulers over hundreds, with the captains and the guard, and brought them to him into the house of the Lord, and made a covenant with them, and took an oath of them in the house of the Lord, and shewed them the king’s son.

5 And he commanded them, saying, This is the thing that ye shall do; A third part of you that enter in on the sabbath shall even be keepers of the watch of the king’s house;

6 And a third part shall be at the gate of Sur; and a third part at the gate behind the guard: so shall ye keep the watch of the house, that it be not broken down.

7 And two parts of all you that go forth on the sabbath, even they shall keep the watch of the house of the Lord about the king.

8 And ye shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand: and he that cometh within the ranges, let him be slain: and be ye with the king as he goeth out and as he cometh in.

9 And the captains over the hundreds did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest commanded: and they took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that should go out on the sabbath, and came to Jehoiada the priest.

10 And to the captains over hundreds did the priest give king David’s spears and shields, that were in the temple of the Lord.

11 And the guard stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, round about the king, from the right corner of the temple to the left corner of the temple, along by the altar and the temple.

12 And he brought forth the king’s son, and put the crown upon him, and gave him the testimony; and they made him king, and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, God save the king.

13 And when Athaliah heard the noise of the guard and of the people, she came to the people into the temple of the Lord.

14 And when she looked, behold, the king stood by a pillar, as the manner was, and the princes and the trumpeters by the king, and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew with trumpets: and Athaliah rent her clothes, and cried, Treason, Treason.

15 But Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of the hundreds, the officers of the host, and said unto them, Have her forth without the ranges: and him that followeth her kill with the sword. For the priest had said, Let her not be slain in the house of the Lord.

16 And they laid hands on her; and she went by the way by the which the horses came into the king’s house: and there was she slain.

17 And Jehoiada made a covenant between the Lord and the king and the people, that they should be the Lord’s people; between the king also and the people.

18 And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal, and brake it down; his altars and his images brake they in pieces thoroughly, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of the Lord.

19 And he took the rulers over hundreds, and the captains, and the guard, and all the people of the land; and they brought down the king from the house of the Lord, and came by the way of the gate of the guard to the king’s house. And he sat on the throne of the kings.

20 And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was in quiet: and they slew Athaliah with the sword beside the king’s house.

21 Seven years old was Jehoash when he began to reign.

The enemy thought he would wipe them out, BUT MY GOD HAD OTHER PLANS!!! HALELUJAH!!!

  4. Athaliah, oblivious to the existence of Joash, as she was so immersed in her plan of indulging herself. While the captains of the bodyguards and the Palace Security Force were instructed in the end of verse 8 MSG “Your job is to stay with the king at all times and places, coming and going.” This should be our charge, stay close with the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords……Jesus.

  5. 2 But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king’s sons which were slain; and they hid him, even him and his nurse, in the bedchamber from Athaliah, so that he was not slain.

Sometimes we must lay low, and wait until our God position us on the throne of Victory!!!!

Gal 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

  6. What is your Purpose in Life
21 Seven years old was Jehoash when he began to reign.
As we read in this chapter God had a plan for Jehoash, what is God’s plan for our life? I’ve heard that people have cheated death and they are still here, why….cause God has a purpose for them. What is my purpose on this earth? What is your purpose?
God help me to fulfill the purpose that you have for my life, that should be our prayer everyday is to ask God what would he have us to do today?

  7. And he brought forth the king’s son, and put the crown upon him, and gave him the testimony; and they made him king, and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, God save the king

If we were patient enough in situations that seem overwhelming and almost impossible to get through then we would be able to make different and better choices on how to resolve those issues.

  8. COVENANT RENEWAL
    11-17
God had remained faithful to his commitments. The ceremonies of covenant renewal mentioned so frequently in the O.T. remind us that it is the people of God who fail. When we fail lets reconsecrate ourselves to the Lord and exspect to revitalize us.

  9. iLove to Grow in the Word
14 And when she looked, behold, the king stood by a pillar, as the manner was, and the princes and the trumpeters by the king, and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew with trumpets: and Athaliah rent her clothes, and cried, Treason, Treason.

The Bible is far more entertaining than Disney or Hollywood. Back in the days of the Bible, alot of folks died… and believe it or not God truly was at the center of alot of it bringing holiness back to the land. Thank the Lord for grace, but judgement time will come again. I want to be on the Lord’s side.

  10. UNITY GROWS VICTORY

Jehoiada made a covenant with the LORD, the King and the People. Their purpose and mission was to bring down the idols of Baal and cleanse the temple of all idolatry. Their mission was to bring the King of Israel and restore the relationship with the LORD.

    MSG
17 Jehoiada now made a covenant between God and the king and the people: They were God’s people. Another covenant was made between the king and the people.

18-20 The people poured into the temple of Baal and tore it down, smashing altar and images to smithereens. They killed Mattan the priest in front of the altar.

Jehoiada then stationed sentries in The Temple of God. He arranged for the officers of the bodyguard and the palace security, along with the people themselves, to escort the king down from The Temple of God through the Gate of the Guards and into the palace. There he sat on the royal throne. Everybody celebrated the event. And the city was safe and undisturbed—they had killed Athaliah with the royal sword.

    Good Leaders will:

    1. Revive the VISION of the LORD.
    2. Repent of all sins and remove all idols and idolatry.
    3. Unify the Resources to Establish protection for the King and his plans.
    4. Delegate authority to fulfill the charge.
    5. Protect the atmosphere of VICTORY for and among the people.

  11. 20 And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was in quiet: and they slew Athaliah with the sword beside the king’s house.
21 Seven years old was Jehoash when he began to reign.

  12. 18 And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal, and brake it down; his altars and his images brake they in pieces thoroughly, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of the Lord
Whenever people get serious about serving God they take away their idols and Destroy them. We see this over and over in the word of God and we also see it today when people are serious about living for God they take away anything out of their life that may prevent them from serving God that is when you know that people really have made a commitment to the Lord.

  13. 2 Kings 11:17-20 (NLT)
    17) Then Jehoiada made a covenant between the LORD and the king and the people that they would be the LORD’S people. He also made a covenant between the king and the people.
    18) And all the people of the land went over to the temple of Baal and tore it down. They demolished the altars and smashed the idols to pieces, and they killed Mattan the priest of Baal in front of the altars. Jehoiada the priest stationed guards at the Temple of the LORD.
    19) Then the commanders, the Carite mercenaries, the palace guards, and all the people of the land escorted the king from the Temple of the LORD. They went through the gate of the guards and into the palace, and the king took his seat on the royal throne.
    20) So all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was peaceful because Athaliah had been killed at the king’s palace.

This made me think of Proverbs 11:10 (NLT), “The whole city celebrates when the godly succeed; they shout for joy when the wicked die.”

  14. 17 And Jehoiada made a covenant between the Lord and the king and the people, that they should be the Lord’s people; between the king also and the people.

  15. 21 Joash was seven years old when he became king.

No matter how old you are if you let God use you, you will be used greatly!!!! Don’t let age stop us from pursuing Gods will. We are CHOSEN to do GODS WORK!!!! No Excuses!!!

  16. 17 And Jehoiada made a covenant between the Lord and the king and the people, that they should be the Lord’s people; between the king also and the people.

18 And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal, and brake it down; his altars and his images brake they in pieces thoroughly, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of the Lord.

When God delivers us from something, we must break down anything and everything we can with reference to it, and destroy it that it does not rise to the surface at any other time to rule in our lives. Too many of us don’t destroy the the thing that causes us to sin, just set it aside. But they went into the house of Baal and brake all the images into pieces.

Destroy it, cut it’s head off, give no place to it any longer.

  17. 2 Kings 11:17 Jehoiada then made a covenant between the Lord and the king and the people that they would be the Lord’s people. He also made a covenant between the king and the people. All he people of the land went to the temple of Baal and tore it down. They they smashed all the altars and Idols to pieces and killed Mattan the priest of Baal in front of the altars. Then Jehoiada the priests posted guards at the Temple of the Lord. He took with him the commanders and hundreds the Carites the guards and all the people of the land and together they brought the king down from the Temple of the Lord and went into the palace entering by the way of the gate of the guards. The king then took his place on the royal throne all the people of the land rejoice and the city was calm because Athaliah had been slain with a sword at the palace.

Once a year we sign a covenant that is between we the people and the Lord Jesus Christ and your pastor. The covent is to maintain a godley life so that their will not be any idols in our life and that we can worship God with a clean heart.

  18. 1 kings 11:13-21 wow they honor the anointed one but they also respect the god temple but not killing the woman in the temple when u look u look at this verses like the church we need to honor the church like picking up trash even when its not ours if we have a problem with someone take of the church property. This is the way i look at this story they honor the house of god

  19. “18 And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal, and brake it down; his altars and his images brake they in pieces thoroughly, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.
20 And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was in quiet: and they slew Athaliah with the sword beside the king’s house.”

One God! Society will continue to believe their is more than one God and worship many idols that are dead … but I as a firm believer will continue to believe with my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ that their is only ONE God! It is time to reveal true gospel to the lost! Many people will try to categorize us or compare us to other “Christians” because we believe in God. But the difference between us and trinitarians or non-holiness believers, is that we are not Christian, we are children of God! The difference is that a Christian can be considered one who just believes in God , you wouldn’t have to believe in holiness or in one God but that would still make you a Christian. A CHILD of God! Is UNIQUE! It is one who has a true relationship with the king of kings! One who is true believing in his WORD for spiritual growth and guidance in everyday living, and in his NAME for healing, blessing, and breakthrough! One who walks hand in hand with God , living and teaching the true gospel of ONE GOD, ONE FAITH, and ONE BAPTISM!
“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:”
    ‭‭John‬ ‭1:12‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ #ChildrenOfGod

  20. 18 And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal, and brake it down; his altars and his images brake they in pieces thoroughly, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.

There is a time to work and a time to rejoice. Together as a church we are there to help each other when it comes time to work and rejoice with one another!

  21. 18 And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal, and brake it down; his altars and his images brake they in pieces thoroughly, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.

  22. 4 In the seventh year of Athaliah’s reign, Jehoiada the priest summoned the commanders, the Carite mercenaries, and the palace guards to come to the Temple of the Lord. He made a solemn pact with them and made them swear an oath of loyalty there in the Lord’s Temple; then he showed them the king’s son. (NLT)

Jehoiada, went to extreme lengths to physically protect Joash with guards and to rightfully raise Joash in truth by sharing Gods laws with him and tearing down the temple of Baal. I couldn’t help but think of how important it is that we guard our children, not only from physical harm, but do all we can to keep them in truth.

    Proverbs 22:6 (NLT)
Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.

  23. Keep the queen out of the throne room

What Jehosheba did was good and bad. Athaliah had given an order to kill the entire royal family. To go against that order was bad but she knew the better thing to do was save the young prince. When the time was right Joash was made kimg and God blessed everyone.

It takes great courage to go against what is popular. However, right is right. If it sounds like a duck, looks like a duck and walks like a duck – call it a duck. There is no reason for Gods’s people to fear the correct morale choice. This fall we need to cast out vote to keep another Athaliah away from the leadership of this country.

“Athaliah was the mother of Ahaziah. When she saw that her son was dead, she took over. She began by massacring the entire royal family. But Jehosheba, daughter of King Joram and sister of Ahaziah, took Ahaziah’s son Joash and kidnapped him from among the king’s sons slated for slaughter. She hid him and his nurse in a private room away from Athaliah. He didn’t get killed. He was there with her, hidden away for six years in The Temple of GOD. Athaliah, oblivious to his existence, ruled the country.”
    ‭‭2 Kings‬ ‭11:1-3‬ ‭MSG‬‬

  24. 11 And the guard stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, round about the king, from the right corner of the temple to the left corner of the temple, along by the altar and the temple.

12 And he brought forth the king’s son, and put the crown upon him, and gave him the testimony; and they made him king, and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, God save the king.

God has a plan for us no matter the age. If God is with us who could be against us, only God has the power to deliver us from all evil. Athaliah thought she had it all figured out but God was in control.

  25. 20 And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was in quiet: and they slew Athaliah with the sword beside the king’s house.

21 Seven years old was Jehoash when he began to reign.

God has a plan for everyone in his kingdom. Don’t let the devil lie to you telling you that there isn’t a plan for life, that your to young or too old. The devil is a liar. God got everything under control. Take care of God’s business and he will take care of yours!!

  26. 1 And when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal.

When facing tragic events in life, leave everything in the hands of God. Don’t try to fix everything yourself and assume that your works are the will of the Lord.

  27. 18 And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal, and brake it down; his altars and his images brake they in pieces thoroughly, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.

  28. 17 And Jehoiada made a covenant between the Lord and the king and the people, that they should be the Lord’s people; between the king also and the people.

18 And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal, and brake it down; his altars and his images brake they in pieces thoroughly, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of the Lord.

  29. You never know the LORD’S timing. David was anointed to be king, but had to be broken before he was ready. Josh was crowned at seven years old. No period of maturing. God knows what He’s doing.

  30. 17 And Jehoiada made a covenant between the Lord and the king and the people, that they should be the Lord’s people; between the king also and the people.

18 And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal, and brake it down; his altars and his images brake they in pieces thoroughly, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of the Lord.

  31. Following the plan of God will bring about some obstacles. While the devil doesn’t want us to succeed, God will help us to see his plan through till the end.

  32. “And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was in quiet: and they slew Athaliah with the sword beside the king’s house.” The word of God (Jesus) revealed what was required. A Nation must be united. America is a GOD fearing Nation. The name of GOD is JESUS, all that oppose this or the word of the CREATOR (JESUS) is not in unison. The pledge of Allegiance represents what America stands for (freedom for all) but more importantly ONE NATION UNDER GOD; however there are sadly those that do not understand it, oppose it, or worse yet disregard it as well as the sacrifices of those that gave their lives. Dear God, bless us with unity as a JESUS fearing Nation. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  33. “And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal, and brake it down; his altars and his images brake they in pieces thoroughly, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of the Lord.” They accomplished this because all the people, which were united worked together. Think how much could be accomplished today if all would call upon the Lord in unity. God awaken us while there is yet time, in Jesus name.

  34. God preserved the bloodline. The child hid in the temple for 6 years and was later crowned king. Those who are not ordained for a position usually don’t keep it when the right person steps onto the scene.

  35. He was only seven when he became king. That portion of the chapter reminded me that It doesn’t matter what age you are, you can be a part of leadership. A leader isn’t chosen based on physical age, he is chosen by mental age.

  36. 2 Kings 11:20 (GNT with Deuterocanon)
20 All the people were filled with happiness, and the city was quiet, now that Athaliah had been killed in the palace.

There is only two peace when the one who is supposed to be on the throne sits on the throne. Joash was not king, Athaliah was dead, and the priest of Baal was gone. Now the city could be happy.

When I was in the world, backslidden, I could never truly fit in or feel like I belonged. No matter how hard I tried I couldn’t find satisfaction or connection. Peace was far from me.

Yet when I got back to the house of God peace returned. Soon I felt like I was home, and that I had a family.

Only God can help us and give us the peace that we need.

  37. This copy of the covenant may have been the Ten Commandments, the entire book of Deuteronomy or the kings responsibilities in regards to Gods covenant with his people. The Law of Moses decrees that when a king is established that he has to be given his own copy of the law (Dt 17:18-20). He was to seriously study and know what was expected of him by God. This would give him reverence of the Lord and gain knowledge that would help him follow the law throughout his reign. God promised that if a king obeyed these commandments he and his family would have a long reign over Israel. We now have something better than the law to follow because Jesus came to fulfill the Law. If we follow him and obey him we too will live prosperous lives.

  38. “And he brought forth the king’s son, and put the crown upon him, and gave him the testimony; and they made him king, and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, God save the king.”‭‭(2 Kings‬ ‭11:12‬ ‭KJV)

Athaliah tried to destroy all the bloodline to the crown. Jehoash, one of the king’s sons, was hid. Now was the promise made to David bound up in one life only, and yet it did not fail. Thus to the Son of David, the Lord, according to his promise, will secure a spiritual seed, hidden sometimes, and unseen, but hidden in God’s pavilion, and unhurt. It only takes one to destroy the plot the enemy has in store because God will always keep his promise and have victory.

  39. 17 And Jehoiada made a covenant between the Lord and the king and the people, that they should be the Lord’s people; between the king also and the people.

The Lord is a God of covenants. He desires for us to be faithful. He has given himself as a new covenant of salvation shedding his blood that we may be saved.

  40. 17 And Jehoiada made a covenant between the Lord and the king and the people, that they should be the Lord’s people; between the king also and the people.

18 And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal, and brake it down; his altars and his images brake they in pieces thoroughly, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of the Lord.

  41. Spending 6 years in the house of the Lord has taught this young boy and now King the ways of their God. Thank God for a priest that planned and brought about the rightful heir to the throne.

  42. “Then Jehoiada made a covenant between the LORD and the king and the people that they would be the LORD’s people. He also made a covenant between the king and the people. And all the people of the land went over to the temple of Baal and tore it down. They demolished the altars and smashed the idols to pieces, and they killed Mattan the priest of Baal in front of the altars. Jehoiada the priest stationed guards at the Temple of the LORD.”
    ‭‭2 Kings‬ ‭11:17-18‬ ‭NLT‬‬

It’s time to get the house in order.

  43. 21 Joash was seven years old when he began to reign.

I was so impacted by what Pastor did I’m gonna repost. If the people of God were to unite, even a 7 year old could run it.

  44. “And Jehoiada made a covenant between the Lord and the king and the people, that they should be the Lord’s people; between the king also and the people. And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal, and brake it down; his altars and his images brake they in pieces thoroughly, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of the Lord.”
    ‭‭2 Kings‬ ‭11:17-18‬ ‭KJV‬‬
