2 Kings 20
1 In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live.
2 Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the Lord, saying,
3 I beseech thee, O Lord, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.
4 And it came to pass, afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, that the word of the Lord came to him, saying,
5 Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the Lord.
6 And I will add unto thy days fifteen years; and I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.
7 And Isaiah said, Take a lump of figs. And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.
8 And Hezekiah said unto Isaiah, What shall be the sign that the Lord will heal me, and that I shall go up into the house of the Lord the third day?
9 And Isaiah said, This sign shalt thou have of the Lord, that the Lord will do the thing that he hath spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees, or go back ten degrees?
10 And Hezekiah answered, It is a light thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees: nay, but let the shadow return backward ten degrees.
11 And Isaiah the prophet cried unto the Lord: and he brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz.
12 At that time Berodachbaladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present unto Hezekiah: for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick.
13 And Hezekiah hearkened unto them, and shewed them all the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not.
14 Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country, even from Babylon.
15 And he said, What have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah answered, All the things that are in mine house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them.
16 And Isaiah said unto Hezekiah, Hear the word of the Lord.
17 Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store unto this day, shall be carried into Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the Lord.
18 And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.
19 Then said Hezekiah unto Isaiah, Good is the word of the Lord which thou hast spoken. And he said, Is it not good, if peace and truth be in my days?
20 And the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made a pool, and a conduit, and brought water into the city, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
21 And Hezekiah slept with his fathers: and Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.

I heard you pray, and I saw you cry. I will heal you, so that three days from now you will be able to worship in my temple. I will let you live fifteen years more, while I protect you and your city from the king of Assyria. I will defend this city as an honor to me and to my servant David.” 1 John 5:14 AMP “This is the [remarkable degree of] confidence which we [as believers are entitled to] have before Him: that [a]if we ask anything according to His will, [that is, consistent with His plan and purpose] He hears us.”

13. Hezekiah received the Babylonian envoys and showed them everything in his treasure-houses-the silver, the gold, the spices, and the aromatic oils. He also took them to see his armory and showed them everything in his royal treasuries! There was nothing in his palace or kingdom that Hezekiah did not show them.
16. Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Listen to this message from the LORD:
17. The time is coming when everything in your palace-all the treasures stored up by your ancestors until now-will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the LORD. NLT
From this we can learn not to pridefully show off anything that we are not willing to part with.
6 And I will add unto thy days fifteen years; and I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.

Seriously Hezekiah? You were just healed and you decide to take strangers throyg h your house so you can boast of your riches? And then you don’t care when you find out the consequences of your actions. Just because we receive a miracle from the LORD doesn’t mean mean everything’s ok. You still have to be on guard.
2 Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the Lord, saying,
Prayer is the key to everything, prayer will open up our eyes and let us see clearly. Prayer will get all our doubt out of the way and get the confirmation we need. When the Lord speaks to us, use prayer so God can give us that direction we need. Prayer is everything in our Christian walk. Pray, Pray, Pray!!!!!
10 And Hezekiah answered, It is a light thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees: nay, but let the shadow return backward ten degrees.
I believe Hezekiah knew the awesome power of God this is why he said that is a light thing for God so let’s give Him a greater challenge. Sometimes our human nature just has to have God prove himself to us. If we would step back ; look at how many times He has already proven Himself. Yet God being the gracious Father He is ,says ok I’ll show you and He once again shows His magnificent power. There is nothing too big nor too small for God. He may not answer in the way you want or expected Him to answer and sometimes He does not give an answer. Why because He wants us to know He is God and He has all in control! Hezekiah got his answer his life back but did not do exactly what he should have done. Would it have been better for him to not have sought for more time………….

Thank God that he hears us when We call, thank God that he sees our tears too! Sometimes we may feel like he does not hear us but every prayer he hears and every tear is bottled up!

2 Kings 20:1 NLT About that time Hezekiah became deathly ill, and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to visit him. He gave the king this message: “This is what the LORD says: Set your affairs in order, for you are going to die. You will not recover from this illness.”
I want you to notice a few things here. The first is Hezekiah was sick unto death and the prophet Isaiah went to tell him the Word of the Lord concerning his sickness. The prophet tells Hezekiah that he will die. One would think that the will of God was spoken and there would be no way to change it. But I’m here today to inform us that Prayer changed the very Word of the prophet which was the Word of God.
If we could catch the power of this chapter, we would never again say such things like, “Well, I got this sickness cause it’s God’s will”… or “Well, God put this on me to keep me humble”…
If Hezekiah would have had that attitude, he would have stayed in the bed and would have died. It’s time for us to remind God of our faithfulness, just as Hezekiah did, and humble ourselves and pray and watch God do a miracle in our life.
2 Kings 20:2-5 NLT When Hezekiah heard this, he turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD, (3) “Remember, O LORD, how I have always been faithful to You and have served You single-mindedly, always doing what pleases You.” Then he broke down and wept bitterly. (4) But before Isaiah had left the middle courtyard, this message came to him from the LORD: (5) “Go back to Hezekiah, the leader of My people. Tell him, ‘This is what the LORD, the God of your ancestor David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will heal you, and three days from now you will get out of bed and go to the Temple of the LORD.

So very thankful that our God and Savior Jesus Christ can feel our heart of repentance, remember our time of submission, and hear our prayers!!!!

“I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears”
It baffles me how people can pray and believe in a god that does not communicate with its followers. We have read about Baal. We have read about all the idols that were created by man. Today people worship and pray to almost anything – cows!! Really?
I can almost understand cows; they are alive and do communicate with people. They provide sustenance; of course, the people who pray to cows to do eat beef or partake of their uddery goodness – milk, butter, cheese – mmmm
We are such a privileged people to worship The God who communicates with His people and provides and protects us. We are not required to kill ourselves in His name. We are not asked to kill others in His name. We are simply asked to share the good news.
2 Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the Lord, saying,
3 I beseech thee, O Lord, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.
5 Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the Lord.
I just love how whe Hezekiah heard that he did wrong and that he was going to died for his illness that he face to the wall and prayed i just love hove Jesus mercy cover us

In times of trouble, you may think that God hasn’t heard your prayers because all you see is the trouble that is in front of you. But rest assured, God hears all your prayers and all your cries. He counts every single tear that you make, and he will answer your prayer, you may not know when, but he will.
THE POWER OF PRAYER
2 Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the Lord, saying,
3 I beseech thee, O Lord, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.
4 And it came to pass, afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, that the word of the Lord came to him, saying,
Sometimes news necessitates that we turn our face away from society, face the wall of opposition and FERVENTLY PRAY unto the LORD. There will be occasions in our lives that our FERVENT PRAYERS lead to DEEP TRAVAIL.

2-3 Hezekiah turned from Isaiah and faced God, praying:
Remember, O God, who I am, what I’ve done!
I’ve lived an honest life before you,
My heart’s been true and steady,
I’ve lived to please you; lived for your approval.
And then the tears flowed. Hezekiah wept.
Notice the immediate response of the LORD to Hezekiah’s fervent, intense prayer.

4-6 Isaiah, leaving, was not halfway across the courtyard when the word of God stopped him: “Go back and tell Hezekiah, prince of my people, ‘God’s word, Hezekiah! From the God of your ancestor David: I’ve listened to your prayer and I’ve observed your tears. I’m going to heal you. In three days you will walk on your own legs into The Temple of God. I’ve just added fifteen years to your life; I’m saving you from the king of Assyria, and I’m covering this city with my shield—for my sake and my servant David’s sake.’”

THE CURSE OF AN ANSWERED PRAYER

Hezekiah was “Starstruck”, he possessed the celebrity mentality. He was a SIGN SEEKER, not a FAITH FOLLOWER. He misused the POWER OF GOD and perceived the FAVOR of GOD to be a celebrity status and sought to impress the other kings.
Remember, regardless of how much we gain here on earth, GOD is NOT impressed. JESUS made it ALL and by HIM it all consists.
Hezekiahs celebrity status caused him to be cursed by the LORD.
Was the 15 year extension worth the BLESSING?
We must remain PRAYERFUL even when our PRAYERS are answered, our needs are supplied and miracles are granted. Continue in the same HUMILITY that turns us to the wall.

The power and importance of prayer is revealed through Hezekiah in today’s chapter.
This is ipray weekend and we are praying for all of our friends for “Friend Day.” We need to be effective in this prayer so that they are drawn by the spirit of the Lord to a relationship with Him.
The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
2 Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the Lord, saying,
3 I beseech thee, O Lord, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.
4 And it came to pass, afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, that the word of the Lord came to him, saying,

I don’t believe he prayed a patty cake prayer. Obviously his prayer was effective.
The power to change God’s mind.

How many times have we hoped for something else. Did you you know what God’s plan was before that? Our prayers can change God’s mind. Think about that. Through our prayers we can change an outcome in a situation. Someone that is in need we can change it for them through our prayers.

18) The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.
Thank You JESUS, that when we are brokenhearted and our spirit is crushed, You hear us when we call to you for help and You rescue us.

How intense is your prayer?? When you pray to God and desire to be used, or desire for him to bless you or forgive you … It must be with such a passion to show God how much you really desire your prayer answered ! God measures the intesity of your desire with the intensity of your PRAYER! In other words if I were to be at a convenient store with my Dad … And said “hey dad can I get this? Can I get this ? How about this?” . I’m sure he wouldn’t pay as much attention as oppose to “Dad can I get this PLEASE!” . I’m sure that would get his attention . You see God wants to BLESS YOU, but there has to be a burning desire within you to show God how much you need and want him in your life so that HE can use you to the utter most. You may think God is not hearing or planning to help … but just because he doesn’t answer when you want doesn’t mean he won’t. He has his ear open and his arm is extending to pick you up to THRIVE! All you have to do is pray with intensity to God and long with a PASSION for his good works in your life!

He hears our every cry and catches every tear! He is my healer, my savior, my mender. What a mighty God we serve!
19 Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “If God says it, it must be good.” But he was thinking to himself, “It won’t happen during my lifetime—I’ll enjoy peace and security as long as I live.”

The Lord is coming soon it’s time we get our house (soul) in order and put aside playing church and be church!

8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart:
the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
The new of the death of Hezekiah came as a shock and terror to the king. He knew that his days were numbered and prayed to the Lord asking for an extension.
Now hezekiah stands in the face of judgment. The babylonians will come and carry them away. His sons will be slaves and his blood line will end.
Sometimes tragedy is a blessing in disguise. God was having mercy on the King by taking his life. Yet hezekiahs prayer was actually the catalyst that led to the downfall of his own children.
May we pray prayers but ask the Lord his thoughts about what we are asking.

God heard Hezekiah’s plee and had Isaiah turn around and go declare his healing. It reminds me of Bishop Foster telling us how he closed himself in his office and prayed and touched the God of glory with his petition and was miraculously healed of Lyme disease. Nothing is too hard for God…but we must do our part in prayer, touching his throne for healing.

When going through a trial or struggle, remember to pray about it.
he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the Lord, saying,
Sometimes you have to turn yourself to face the wall you’ve been backed into and talk to God. Yes, talk to God not the wall or opposition. Your opposition is not worth your time, breath, or words but God is the one that will change you and your situation. So spend time talking to him.
3 I beseech thee, O Lord, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.
4 And it came to pass, afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, that the word of the Lord came to him, saying,

God can hear a preayer in an instant. And has all power and authority to heal and restore.

Prayer will fix it every time!
“Then said Hezekiah unto Isaiah, Good is the word of the Lord which thou hast spoken. And he said, Is it not good, if peace and truth be in my days?” The word of God (Jesus) identifies self. Hezekiah was concerned about peace and safety; however it was for his generation. One that is unwilling to give thought or care about tomorrow’s generation, only cares about oneself. Whereas one that cares will do ones part in seeking and obeying God’s (Judge) word. One should never forget to thank Jesus, and also show respect too those that sacrificed self for tomorrow’s generation. Dear God, enlarge our hearts for others and remove those with power and influence that do not fear or heed your word. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!
“I beseech thee, O Lord, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.” Hezekiah was capable of praying as he did; however if he had not lived right he would not have been able too. Before we do, say, or act we should remember this prayer, for the Lord surely will. God help us to do what is right in your sight, in Jesus name.
2 Kings 20:5 Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the Lord.
James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
Psalm 142:1;2
1 I cried unto the Lord with my voice; with my voice unto the Lord did I make my supplication.
2 I poured out my complaint before him; I shewed before him my trouble.
Over and over, the word of God is constant in assuring us that the Lord hears our prayers. It is the earnest or effectual (DEF: (successful in producing a desired or intended result) prayer that prevails before God. The word stresses that it just does not availth, but availth MUCH. God is always overdoing how he blesses. Its always pressed down, or abundantly, or from everlasting to everlasting. He is not a regular portion God, he’s a above and beyond God. He can turn a death sentence into a blessing. So pray, and when your tired and down, pray some more. You cannot over pray. In this world that we live and the times that we live, you can’t get enough of Jesus.
Be careful what you let in your house.
Your house is your domain or what you have dominion over. If we are not prayerful in hat or who is able to acces our dominion then we are hanging our defenses up and we are exposed. Someone is always trying to exploit Gods people as if we should not have a blessed life because we serve the Lord. The problem is as Brother Collins said, they don’t know who we are. It is not abnormal for the Kings kids to be blessed. No one thinks that is odd. This is why we should tell all your business to everyone. You never know who is in the wait for you.
Lord you have seen our hearts you have seen our prayer! Don’t forget us! Don’t forget me…
It pays to pray. There are so many things that can be accomplished through prayer. Hezekiah understood the importance of prayer. Even though he had received bad news that did not stop him from praying to God. Because of his prayer God added to his life.
Confused by the two conflicting messages about his death (vs 1,6) Hezekiah doesn’t know whether he will truly recover. Seeking reassurance, he asks for a sign. Isaiah goes along with his request, and prophecies that the Lord will alter the shadow on the sundial by ten steps. How God accomplishes this miracle is a mystery. Did he reverse the earths rotation? Use clouds that refract the light of the sun? No matter how God accomplished the supernatural resetting of the sundial God fulfilled is promise through displaying his power over the natural world. He has all power, holds time in his hands and the giver and taker of life. A sign from God is so small to relieve the doubts of a king in a desperate situation.
God gave Hezekiah a sign to let him know he would live for another 15 years and not die.
Hezekiah is a great example of a selfish intercessor. He is quick to pray to God on his behalf, and quick to accept a word of God that doesn’t effect him.
My opinion, he is shallow.
God is there to hear every cry. We should never be ashamed to admitting our faults, needs, and praises unto God.
Prayer changes things, a feverish heartfelt prayer tells God you are serious and diligence makes all the difference
“And Isaiah the prophet cried unto the Lord: and he brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz.”
2 Kings 20:11 KJV
Turning back the light in his life is what he asked for. For the shadow to go backwards the sun had to move away from where it was. I wonder if the sun doesn’t represent Jesus.if it does he may have asked Jesus to step away from him slightly.
God controls everything
9 And Isaiah said, This sign shalt thou have of the Lord, that the Lord will do the thing that he hath spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees, or go back ten degrees?
10 And Hezekiah answered, It is a light thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees: nay, but let the shadow return backward ten degrees.
11 And Isaiah the prophet cried unto the Lord: and he brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz.
2 When Hezekiah heard this, he turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, (NLT)
Hezekiah’s immediate reaction was to pray. Whenever we receive undesirable news, our first reaction should be to pray too.
5 Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the Lord.
