Nehemiah 6

1 Now it came to pass when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had builded the wall, and that there was no breach left therein; (though at that time I had not set up the doors upon the gates;)

2 That Sanballat and Geshem sent unto me, saying, Come, let us meet together in some one of the villages in the plain of Ono. But they thought to do me mischief.

3 And I sent messengers unto them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you?

4 Yet they sent unto me four times after this sort; and I answered them after the same manner.

5 Then sent Sanballat his servant unto me in like manner the fifth time with an open letter in his hand;

6 Wherein was written, It is reported among the heathen, and Gashmu saith it, that thou and the Jews think to rebel: for which cause thou buildest the wall, that thou mayest be their king, according to these words.

7 And thou hast also appointed prophets to preach of thee at Jerusalem, saying, There is a king in Judah: and now shall it be reported to the king according to these words. Come now therefore, and let us take counsel together.

8 Then I sent unto him, saying, There are no such things done as thou sayest, but thou feignest them out of thine own heart.

9 For they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it be not done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands.

10 Afterward I came unto the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah the son of Mehetabeel, who was shut up; and he said, Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us shut the doors of the temple: for they will come to slay thee; yea, in the night will they come to slay thee.

11 And I said, Should such a man as I flee? and who is there, that, being as I am, would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in.

12 And, lo, I perceived that God had not sent him; but that he pronounced this prophecy against me: for Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.

13 Therefore was he hired, that I should be afraid, and do so, and sin, and that they might have matter for an evil report, that they might reproach me.

14 My God, think thou upon Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works, and on the prophetess Noadiah, and the rest of the prophets, that would have put me in fear.

15 So the wall was finished in the twenty and fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty and two days.

16 And it came to pass, that when all our enemies heard thereof, and all the heathen that were about us saw these things, they were much cast down in their own eyes: for they perceived that this work was wrought of our God.

17 Moreover in those days the nobles of Judah sent many letters unto Tobiah, and the letters of Tobiah came unto them.

18 For there were many in Judah sworn unto him, because he was the son in law of Shechaniah the son of Arah; and his son Johanan had taken the daughter of Meshullam the son of Berechiah.

19 Also they reported his good deeds before me, and uttered my words to him. And Tobiah sent letters to put me in fear.

  1. But i said, “should a man like me run away? Or should one like me go into the tample to save his life? I will not go!” I realized tha God has not sent him, but tha he had prophesied againts me because Tobiah and sanballat had hired him. He had been hired to INTIMIDATE me so that I would commit a sin by doing this, and then they would give me a bad name to discridit me. Nehemiah 6:11-13.

I am amazed of the wisdom that Nahemiah display in this chapter. True leaders will not be intimidated easy!

  2. Nehemiah talks about distractions that the enemy may try to use to divert us from our promise. God sent Pastor and Sister Watts here (Fort Worth) 14 years ago and we are NOW working on our next wall (Phase II). We must stay focused and not let the thoughts, words or comments of anyone or anything stop the work of the Lord for this city. Just like Nehemiah, let us pray as verse 9 MSG says “They were trying to intimidate us into quitting. They thought, “They’ll give up; they’ll never finish it.” I prayed, “Give me strength.”

Psalm 28:6-9 AMP says “Blessed be the Lord, Because He has heard the voice of my supplication. The Lord is my strength and my [impenetrable] shield; My heart trusts [with unwavering confidence] in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, And with my song I shall thank Him and praise Him. The Lord is their [unyielding] strength, And He is the fortress of salvation to His anointed. Save Your people and bless Your inheritance; Be their shepherd also, and carry them forever.”

Same verses CEV “I praise you, Lord, for answering my prayers. You are my strong shield, and I trust you completely. You have helped me, and I will celebrate and thank you in song. You give strength to your people, Lord, and you save and protect your chosen ones. Come save us and bless us. Be our shepherd and always carry us in your arms.”

  3. 9 They were just trying to intimidate us, imagining that they could discourage us and stop the work. So I continued the work with even greater determination. (NLT)

Opposition should only stir up greater determination within us!

  4. Nehemiah 6:9 (NLT) “They were just trying to intimidate us, imagining that they could discourage us and stop the work. So I continued the work with greater determination.”

Anytime the enemy tries to intimidate and discourage us, it should cause us to WORK that much harder (greater determination) for God’s kingdom.

O God, strengthen our hands !

  5. IMAGINARY CONFLICT

8 Then I sent unto him, saying, There are no such things done as thou sayest, but thou feignest them out of thine own heart.

Problems, conflicts and offenses are often the result of lies and temptation from the “fiery dart of the wicked”. The adversary satan, the prince of the power of the air creates imaginary accusations against innocent people and we are stuck with discerning if the IMAGINARY CONFLICT is valid. Often the accusation is false but the conflict is believed.

    MSG
8 I sent him back this: “There’s nothing to what you’re saying. You’ve made it all up.”

We must guard our hearts and consider the accusation that comes to our mind. It could be a lie from the pits of hell, through its father satan.

As FAITH filled believers we should try the spirit, examine the word and pray for discernment prior to accepting every accusation that comes to our mind.

May the GOD of peace and spirit of Forgiveness have RULE in our hearts and minds to accomplish the will of GOD “Revival NOW” for the people of GOD.

  6. 9 They were all trying to frighten us, thinking, “Their hands will get too weak for the work, and it will not be completed.”

But I prayed, “Now strengthen my hands.”

This is what the enemy wants to do FRIGHTEN US!!!! The enemy wants to see us quit, get tired and stop everything but I rebuke that spirit upon the church. We can’t get weary and quit for I find my strength in the Lord. This conference has made me see so many things different and I praise God because everything that is happening is for a season but we are here because of Him. He brought us here to impact this city and make a difference in the lives of many. Lord strength us so we may continue to work passionately for your kingdom. Nothing else matter but YOU LORD!!!! I will not quit, I will keep working to grow your kingdom for your glory and honor.

  7. Nehemiah 6:9 (Gideon)
“For they all were trying to make us afraid, saying, Their hands will be weakened in the work, and it will not be done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands ”

My legs are weakened right now where I can’t walk, but Praise God, He’s a Healer.

  8. 9 They were just trying to intimidate us, imagining that they could discourage us and stop the work. So I continued the work with even greater determination. (NLT)
Sometimes the enemy really doesn’t have any other tool to use against us than intimidation. He knows God is with us and he knows he can’t stop us from doing God’s will so he intimidates us. We must remember however that greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world!

  9. Wow this is a strong chapter Nehemiah had great wisdom he knew every trick of his enemies we can’t be intimidated by our enemies but stand our ground and keep build don’t let this world influence you .Keep doing the works of god.

  10. Nehemiah 6:7 And thou hast also appointed propets to preach of thee at Jerusalem saying there is a king in Judah and now shall it be reported to the king according to these words. Come now therefore and let us take counsel together. Then I sent unto him saying there are no such things done as thou sayest but thou feignest them out of thine own heart. For they all made us afraid saying their hand should be weakened from the work that it be not done now therefore God strength in my hands. Afterward I came unto the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah the son of Mehetabeel who was shut up and he said let us meet together in the house of God within the temple and let us shut the doors of the temple for they will come to slay thee yea in the night will they come to slay thee. And lo I perceived that God had not sent him but that he pronounced his prophecy against me for Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him. Therefore was he hired that I should be afraid and do so and sin and that they might have matter for an evil report yhat they might reproach me.

  11. 12 And, lo, I perceived that God had not sent him; but that he pronounced this prophecy against me: for Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.
13 Therefore was he hired, that I should be afraid, and do so, and sin, and that they might have matter for an evil report, that they might reproach me.

Nehemiah was able to perceive that this man was hired to cause him fear and to sin because of his relationship with God. We must be able to hear what the Lord says, not everything that people say. Some are sent to discourage and distract and lead us away. Draw closer to God and hear his direction and stay on the course he has set for us.

  12. should a statement such a man as I flee. how much strength and faith in God would cause him to say a bold statement . we should also have that boldness in our hearts, j, soliz

  13. 9 For they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it be not done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands.

Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?

    Jeremiah 22:27

  14. 18 For there were many in Judah sworn unto him, because he was the son in law of Shechaniah the son of Arah; and his son Johanan had taken the daughter of Meshullam the son of Berechiah.

19 Also they reported his good deeds before me, and uttered my words to him. And Tobiah sent letters to put me in fear.

  15. The enemy will try to distract you feom the work of God. It is important that we remain focus. The more we go the more we grow.

  16. 9 They were just trying to intimidate us, imagining that they could discourage us and stop the work. So I continued the work with even greater determination. NLT

    GO with Greater Determination!

Don’t allow intimidation to hinder you, it is merely a tactic to discourage you.
Use it to GROW your determination!

  17. iLove to Grow in the Word
“They were just trying to intimidate us, imagining that they could discourage us and stop the work. So I continued the work with even greater determination.”
    ‭‭Nehemiah‬ ‭6:9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Wow, the spirit of intimidation joined together with a lying and deceptive spirit and tried to remove the plant of the Lord from Jerusalem. Thank the Lord that Nehemiah was planted by the Lord . He used extreme wisdom when dealing with the enemy and also when dealing with the lying spirit.

  18. No Weapon, No Lie, No one can keep the work of God from continuing.
When God is in it He is the Victor.

16 When all our enemies heard about this, all the surrounding nations were afraid and lost their self-confidence, because they realized that this work had been done with the help of our God.

  19. Nehemiah 6:12 I realized that God had not sent him, but that he had prophesied against me because Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.

Many people like to prophesied to others. It’s a dangerous thing to speak in behave of God, if Gid didn’t really say. You can be labeled a false prophet. Don’t confuse emotion with prophecy from God. If you have a word for someone, make sure you run it by the man of God first. God doesn’t just step over his prophet, especially if he is walking in the Spirit.

  20. Nehemiah 6:19 (NLT)
19 They kept telling me about Tobiah’s good deeds, and then they told him everything I said. And Tobiah kept sending threatening letters to intimidate me.

Intimidation is a promise of destruction with no physical evidence at present. It is a way to make you believe something negative could happen without proof. Intimidation is cowardly. There is no action, only insinuation.

We should always believe the word of God over intimidation. There is no foundation for intimidation but God’s word is forever settled in heaven.

The easiest way to defeat intimidation is to recognize it for what it is, a scare tactic. We have the upper hand and should never allow ourselves to live in fear of what could happen if we take a step for God.

  21. AMP – 2 Then I realized that God had not sent him, but he spoke this prophecy against me because Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him. 13 He was hired for this reason, that I would be frightened and do as he said and sin, so that they would have [grounds to make] a malicious report in order to censure and disgrace me. 14 Remember, O My God, Tobiah and Sanballat in regard to these actions of theirs, and also [remember] the prophetess Noadiah and the rest of the prophets who were trying to frighten me.

Not everyone that comes to us is sent by God. We must discern their attitude and actions to determine whose team they are really on.

  22. 3 And I sent messengers unto them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you?

4 Yet they sent unto me four times after this sort; and I answered them after the same manner.

Accusations will come and we must “answer them after the same manner” we are doing a good work! Yet, before we can answer in this manner we must examine our lives and make sure we are doing the work and we are submitted to God and the man of God.

  23. “Then sent Sanballat his servant unto me in like manner the fifth time with an open letter in his hand.” The word of God (Jesus) recorded the number of times. Although his answer was the same they continued in their attempts to hinder him on the matter. One should consider the number, or rather the fifth time. Dear God, help us that we would not fall victim. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  24. “My God, think thou upon Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works, and on the prophetess Noadiah, and the rest of the prophets, that would have put me in fear.” Although there were attempts to instill fear, the Lord protected him. This illustrates the necessity of seeking the Lord and his word. God help us discern so that we would not be deceived, in Jesus name.

  25. 6 Wherein was written, It is reported among the heathen, and Gashmu saith it, that thou and the Jews think to rebel: for which cause thou buildest the wall, that thou mayest be their king, according to these words.

Intimidation and fear based on lies all tatics of the enemy. We should know that most attacks come with lies and some form of fear. Try the spirits

  26. “Afterward I came unto the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah the son of Mehetabeel, who was shut up; and he said, Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us shut the doors of the temple: for they will come to slay thee; yea, in the night will they come to slay thee.

Therefore was he hired, that I should be afraid, and do so, and sin, and that they might have matter for an evil report, that they might reproach me.”
    ‭‭Nehemiah‬ ‭6:10, 13‬ ‭KJV‬‬
    http://bible.com/1/neh.6.10,13.kjv

Fear causes us all to sin.

  27. So called prophecy

“I sensed that God hadn’t sent this man. The so-called prophecy he spoke to me was the work of Tobiah and Sanballat; they had hired him. He had been hired to scare me off—trick me—a layman, into desecrating The Temple and ruining my good reputation so they could accuse me.”
    ‭‭Nehemiah‬ ‭6:12-13‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Do I have a strong enough relationship with Jesus that if a man states he has a messaged from God that I can determine if it is the words of my Father or a trap from the enemy? I pray that I do. Most of my life I would have to answer no to this question and would have to solely rely on men of God to confirm any spoken to or into my life. Nehemiah had such a relationship.

He “perceived”. What does that mean? Perceive: to become aware of, know, or identify bymeans of the senses: to recognize, discern, envision, or understand. Do we know the voice of our Father? Can we recognize his voice over and through all the noise of life?

  28. 9 They were just trying to intimidate us, imagining that they could discourage us and stop the work. So I continued the work with even greater determination.

We allow so many things to discourage us each day, we may not know it, but little by little we are dscouraged by the simplest things. We should always be positive minded and determined to move forward. Dont allow the enemy to bring us down!
