Psalm 42

1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.

2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

3 My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?

4 When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.

5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.

6 O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.

7 Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.

8 Yet the Lord will command his lovingkindness in the day time, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.

9 I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

10 As with a sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me; while they say daily unto me, Where is thy God?

11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

Say, “Self, HOPE in GOD! I Shall PRAISE HIM who is My HELP and My GOD!!”

HOPE in GOD and PRAISE HIM!

  7. 1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

An insatiable hunger for God, a seeking opportunity just to kneel before him at the throne of grace. Lord help me to have a seeking heart, as a deer thirst after the brook, let my heart thirst after you. That I never be content with my walk with you, but that I continue to seek to be closer.

  8. iLove to Go Blog
Psalms 42:1-4 NLT For the choir director: A psalm of the descendants of Korah. As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for You, O God. (2) I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before Him? (3) Day and night I have only tears for food, while my enemies continually taunt me, saying, “Where is this God of yours?” (4) My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be: I walked among the crowds of worshipers, leading a great procession to the house of God, singing for joy and giving thanks amid the sound of a great celebration!

Whoa! Wait a minute…Do you see what I see? Yeah buddy, look at verse number 1, “For the choir director: A psalm of the descendants of Korah…” Who in the world was Korah? Well, he was Moses and Aaron’s cousin. Yep. Numbers 16:1-2 NLT “One day Korah son of Izhar, a descendant of Kohath son of Levi, conspired with Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth, from the tribe of Reuben. (2) They incited a rebellion against Moses, along with 250 other leaders of the community, all prominent members of the assembly.”

Wow…this Korah is the man, along with all those who followed him, who was swallowed up by the earth. Once again back to our scripture this morning, the children of Korah are longing for God…they thirst for God…their hearts are breaking as they remember how it used to be… Wow!

Parents, don’t be rebellious like Korah. This psalm is written hundreds of years after Korah was destroyed. The bad thing about it is his descendants never really overcame the shame of the incident. It was forever written into their family tree. It affected them years after the incident. What we do today reverberates through the atmosphere generation to generation.

Praise the Lord that the children of Korah did not give up or rebel against God but they turned to God. They had great hunger for God and God filled that hunger.

  9. 1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.

Yes my heart panteth after God, I am desperate for him, he is my rock and my love, he is so amazing, verse 3 has alot of significance in my life, there has been nights where ive woke up crying and cried through out the day and in my bed crying, hurt and doubt would consume me, but I would just say Lord help me yes so small and so simple, and he did! God is a good God and he will never leave us nor forsake us, he said it, its true and he deserves all the praise and all the worship because he is the LOVER OF MY SOUL!

  10. 8 Yet the Lord will command his lovingkindness in the day time, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.

    SOMEWHERE. A SONG
I searched for a song in the morning light
I searched for a song in the middle of the night
    I searched for a song in a baby’s smile
I searched for a song in the death of my child

Somewhere a song I had search for so long
Then I heard His voice so clear saying child my child just come near
    He said
I AM THE SONG HE SAID I AM THE SONG

He is our song. God gave me the words to this song a few days after the death of my beautiful 16 year daughter.

I have learned through trials after trials that God is the Song if we keep the melody of His sustaining love and power He will keep the rhythm of life right in tune. Harmony or a chord is made usually with three parts. When there is harmony there is unity. The Bible says a three part cord is not easily broken. Just a play on words here. This is where we gain the strength we need coming together in worship to sing to encourage one another to love others into the kingdom.
David although he was going through many trials he kept a song, He played his harp and sang. He knew where to find His strength. It was keeping I AM THE SONG right in the middle of his heart!

  11. 5 Why are you down in the dumps, dear soul? Why are you crying the blues? Fix my eyes on God— soon I’ll be praising again. He puts a smile on my face. He’s my God.

We all have a forgetful memory sometimes. We must Beware! When God is abundantly good to us we are in great danger. We are in danger because in good times it’s easy to forget God. It’s easy to be so consumed with the gifts that we forget the Giver! When/if we do that, we end up worshiping the blessings and not the One who in His amazing grace has blessed us.

The benefit of keeping God in mind is that it keeps our hearts grateful, appropriately humble, and delighted in our God for His goodness to us. Believe me, delighting in Him beats being consumed by the stuff that He has given us.Memory lapses in our daily routines may be normal for us. But remembering God’s goodness in our lives is something we can’t afford to forget.

  12. HOW WE GO TO CHURCH

4 When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.

All too often we allow our life situations to affect our spiritual determination. The adversary of our soul satan has desire to discourage us from offering victorious PRAISE to JESUS. Regardless of age, past or present challenges we should enter HIS gates with thanksgiving and HIS courts with PRAISE. The VOICE of JOY and PRAISE with a multitude.

Consider the context of verse 4 in the Message version:

4 These are the things I go over and over,
emptying out the pockets of my life.
I was always at the head of the worshiping crowd,
    right out in front,
    Leading them all,
    eager to arrive and worship,
    Shouting praises, singing thanksgiving—
celebrating, all of us, God’s feast!

I pray the LORD JESUS help us all to make every service a season of CELEBRATION in the presence of the LORD and with the multitude.

  13. “But each day the LORD pours his unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing his songs, praying to God who gives me life.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭42:8‬ ‭NLT

  14. Verses 5-6 say, “O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.” I am so glad that whenever we need God, He is right there for us. Whenever we may be sad or even not completely hopeful about what is going on, we can always turn to Him! By praising Him, we lift Him up higher in our lives; by putting Him first we allow God to guide us through our situation without any distractions from what we go through. Even just remembering what He has done for us can lift us up and encourage us to go on. As Psalms 122:1 says, “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord .” We can always rejoice in the fact that we are still able to worship God freely! I praise God for that freedom of worship and never want to lose sight of what He has done for me and what He will continually do in my life despite what the future may hold.

  15. 1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.

2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

The book of Matthew tells us that whosoever hunger and thirst after righteousness shall be filled. David had a hunger and thirst for God like no other. It was something he really was passionate about. I pray that I would posses the hunger of David and the passion of his heart because when we hunger God has made a promise to fill us up!

  16. 1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.

2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

If we ever feel separated from God, we should not rest until our relationship with Him is restored! Just as the life of an animal depends on water, our life depends on God! Those who seek Him will not only find Him but will also find everlasting life!

  17. 5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.

8 Yet the Lord will command his lovingkindness in the day time, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.

The Lord is my refuge, my strength, and unto him I cast all my cares. He is my hope and all I have to say to the enemy is “no matter what the weapon is, I WIN”

  18. A Song of Yearning and Praise
David yearns for God as his enemies taunt him although heavily weighed down he reminds himself to hope in God He cries out to God for vindication deeply disturbed at his enemies success David determines to urgently seek God’s presence and finds assurance from God

  19. 11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

We too should have great faith in what Jesus is doing, because He cannot fail. He has our best interest at heart. He called us. He chose us. He loved us.

  20. 1 As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.
2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?

God I thirst for you! I pray that everyday I’ll awake with a new thirst for you God, a thirst for your living water! Let my soul not be satisfied with water but have a want of your living water to come in me and want to see you everyday!

  21. 7 I hear the tumult of the raging seas as your waves and surging tides sweep over me.
8 But each day the Lord pours his unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing his songs, praying to God who gives me life.

“There is an endless song, echoes in my soul – I hear the music ring. And though the storms may come, I am holding on, to the rock I cling.
How can I keep from singing Your praise? How can I ever say enough? How amazing is Your love! How can I keep from shouting Your name? I know I am loved by the King and it makes my heart want to sing!
I will lift my eyes in the darkest night for I know my Savior lives. And I will walk with You knowing You’ll see me through and sing the songs You give
I can sing in the troubled times; sing when I win. I can sing when I lose my step and fall down again. I can sing ’cause You pick me up; sing ’cause You’re there. I can sing ’cause You hear me, Lord when I call to You in prayer. I can sing with my last breath; sing for I know that I’ll sing with the angels and the saints around the throne!”

Had this song playing while I blogged this morning and oh how suitable it is! Though the storm may toss me to and fro, I remain confident and trust my God because I know He will never fail me. He loves me and I will praise Him in all things because He alone is worthy of my all!

  22. Verse 11 MSG “Why are you down in the dumps, dear soul? Why are you crying the blues? Fix my eyes on God—soon I’ll be praising again. He puts a smile on my face. He’s my God.”

We must remember to fix our eyes on Jesus and thirst after His plan for our life in all things. John 4:14 AMP says “But whoever drinks the water that I give him will never be thirsty again. But the water that I give him will become in him a spring of water [satisfying his thirst for God] welling up [continually flowing, bubbling within him] to eternal life.” Matthew 5:6 AMP says “Blessed [joyful, nourished by God’s goodness] are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness [those who actively seek right standing with God], for they will be [completely] satisfied.”

  23. Josiah: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” For in this chapter David has hope for the Lord. “11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.” However, how can he have hope in the Lord in the midst of such trials. He can have hope because the Lord perserveth his faithful. In Psalm 31:23 it says “O love the Lord, all ye his saints: for the Lord perserveth his faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.” David is faithful for the victory from God because the faithful are preserved. God is not bound by time so he could already have done the miracle and people still are asking God to do it. Yet David said “for I shall yet praise him”. This type of faith is what I pray I always have and never lose; the faith of the saints or doers of God’s word. PRAISE THE LORD!

  24. Verse one says As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. Which brings up the question of where to find the living fountains of God, Where is he? David asks this question in verse 3 and answers it in verse 4 where David says, When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday. For when you seek after God and want to find him, he can always be found in the House of God, with his people singing praises. May I always diligently seek after the Lord, and his house of prayer.

  25. Oh that my soul would exhibit the same desperation of desire as that hart as he seeks the water he needs to sustain his life. I may also have felt pursued by the enemy and feel like I barely escaped with my life, so lead me to the still waters where God can restore peace to my soul! When I recognize my spiritual life resides in a dry and thirsty land where no water is, oh that I would appreciate the only source of living water that gushes from God within! Oh that I would pursue him all the days of my life!

When, not if, but when my soul is discouraged, take me back to Jordan. Allow me to remember the experience of entering into His promise for the very first time! And like the source of the Jordan springs forth from Mt. Hermon, help me to remember the source of that living water that is new and fresh every day! Yes, it may once have been in the hands of the enemy, just like my life, but it was conquered and made to be a portion of the promise, also just like my life! So let me rest upon the promises of God as he renews my soul before going forth in His name again!

  26. 4 When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.

5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.

  27. 11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

The health of my countenance is JESUS!!! I catch myself frowning at times and this is exactly what comes to mind.

  28. 9 I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

10 As with a sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me; while they say daily unto me, Where is thy God?

11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

This is exactly how I’ve been feeling: I know God is there, but it feels that I’ve been forgotten. I know it’s not true, but it sure does feel that way a lot of the time. I have to pray through and be ever so vigilant on what god has for me; not what the world has for me. I will praise God in every aspect of my life. No more will I allow the enemy to bring me into a pity party. SATAN YOU HAVE NO ROOM IN MY LIFE, YOU HAVE NO ROOM IN MY MARRIAGE, YOU HAVE NO CONTROL OF ME: FOR I AM A CHILD OF GOD. BEGONE FROM ME!!!! Thank you Jesus!!

  29. Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God! Now I am deeply discouraged, but I will remember you— even from distant Mount Hermon, the source of the Jordan, from the land of Mount Mizar.
    Psalms 42:5‭-‬6 NLT

When there is times that you don’t feel like seeking God and there is sad situations in your life. We must remember who we serve and put it all in God’s hands.

  30. 10 Their taunts break my bones. They scoff, “Where is this God of yours?”

Don’t ever be so discouraged, that friends will ask “where is your God?” or ask “dont you trust your God?”. Your enemy will be there ready to remind you, there is no God, there is no one that can help you. We must stay strong and encouraged at all times.

  31. 1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.

2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

3 My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?

God I hunger and thirst after the things of you not and after the things of the world. You alone can fill every void that we have!!

  32. 7 Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.
Cover me while the noise being shouted around flows on by without distracting me.

  33. 7 Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.
Cover me while the noise being shouted around flows on by without distracting me.

  34. 1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.

A thirst soul desiring after God will be determined to be in His presence. Water is something we can live without and God is even more important than water. The day we believe we can live without him we are already dead. It should not matter how long we’ve been in the church; we should always have a thirst for Him. We should always long to be in His presence.

  35. Psalms 42:11 (KJV Strong’s)

11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me?
hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him,
who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

I love the way that David approaches this. He says why am I so down?! Isn’t God amazing? Doesn’t he have everything under control? Hasn’t he been there for me time and time again?

I think it’s time for me to put my chin up, remember who God is and get my praise on!

  36. 6 O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.

When you are down and out in life, things are hard, remember what God has already done for you. Remember where he brought you from. Remember each miracle He has done for you. Build your faith from your past experiences with God. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

  37. 4 When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.

On my way to work i find myself praising God in my truck just as hard as i do in Church. I find myself praying just as hard in my room as i do in Church. Im tanking God today for everything hes placed in front of me to bring me where im at right now. When im in the House of God theres no other place id rather be. The spirit is mighty with the number of people praising him. The multitude praising God with joy. He rewards me with his presence, and thats plenty for me. I wont be needy and ask for anymore than hes gave me, but whatever he blesses me with i will praise him. I will rejoice with strangers and brag on the goodness of the Lord. I will encourage people and show people what God can do for them and i will use myself as an example. God is mighty and hes made me mighty with his spirit. I dont have to ask God to use me everyday because, he has used me every single day and o trust he will continue to use me as long as i praise him with joy amd show the World what hes capable of…
    God bless you all!

  38. 11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

Hope thou in God…sometimes our own heart and soul may need a little assurance. Troubles may come and situations may make you feel as if you are going under but hope in God. Hope is a form of patience, to wait expectantly and in faith. And yet praise Him. Praise him for who He is and praise Him in advance that He will come in your aide. Thank you Jesus for you have been more than good to us.

  39. 6 O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.

Have your I ever had to reach back to something God had done for you in your past and use it to encourage your itself in your present situation? This is why testifying of what God has done for you to others is so important. Sometimes we do have to reach to something that has already happened to encourage us for something we are expecting to happen. Make a journal, write it down, then you will have somethIng to look back to encourage yourself with

  40. 2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

David is in a place of desperation here and feels like God is ignoring him. God says taste and see that he is good. He is the water that we drink and never thirst again. He is our well of living water. A spring welling up within us. When it feels like we are all alone in a trail and people mock us we can hold fast knowing that God is our rock. He is our strong tower protecting us even when we may not be able to visually see it.

  41. Psalm 42:1 (KJV) 1 [[To the chief Musician, Maschil, for the sons of Korah.]] As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.

My soul lines after your presence so much that it is like a deer looking for water. It is essential. We must have the flow of your living water with in us to refresh and renew us all the time.

  42. When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.(Psalms 42:4 KJV)

I was glad when they said unto me “Let us go to the house of the Lord” Ps 122:1. We are to rejoice when others rejoice and even in the hard times praise him because that shows our faith that we trust he will bring us out.

  43. 2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

I thirst daily for God, He is my everything!!! I can’t stay away away from the Lord!!! When I am going through a trial God is so good to me that He will make sure I hear what He has to say. Thank You Jesus for taking care of me daily!!! I know that despite what anyone may say, you know what is best and is always watching me. Thank You Jesus!!!

  44. 11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

When we have God for us, there’s nothing to worry about. Leave your trust in God! Our lives are in His hands! We will overcome whatever tries to come against us!

  45. 11 Why am I discouraged?
Why is my heart so sad?
I will put my hope in God!
    I will praise him again—
    my Savior and my God!

Before we can think ourself happy, we have to admit that there is a problem! And give that problem over to God, and trust in His will!

  46. 4 When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.

  47. 11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

God is in control seek and you shall find him. We are not alone.

  48. Hannah: “8 Yet the Lord will command his lovingkindness in the day time, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.” Every day that we walk with God he is there for us to strengthen and walk with us on that straight, narrow path. Every time when I am going through a tough time I can always look unto my Lord to give me the strength to go on. As David said “Yet the Lord will command his loving kindness in the day time, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.” Even when it is nighttime I can sing praises unto my Lord and he will give me strength every step of the way with him.

  49. 7 Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.

8 Yet the Lord will command his lovingkindness in the day time, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.

  50. Psalm42:1 In today’s (English Amp) As The hart pants and longs for the water brooks, so I pant and long for You, O God. I think about where I used to be. God is in control of everything. If you are sad about something , Go to Rock with Jesus. And praise Him for everything.

  51. psalm 43:4 ( English Amp Bible). Then will I go to the altar of God, to God, my exceeding joy yes, with the lyre will I praise you, O God, my God! I will build a altar of repentance. At my job , My home . My car. The joy of Lord is my strength. God I will praise you with a song and dance.

  52. “A deer longs for streams of water. God, I long for you in the same way. I am thirsty for God. I am thirsty for the living God. When can I go and meet with him? My tears have been my food day and night. All day long people say to me, “Where is your God?” When I remember what has happened, I tell God all of my troubles. I remember how I used to walk along with the crowd of worshipers. I led them to the house of God. We shouted with joy and gave thanks as we went to the holy feast.”
    ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭42:1-4‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

Living for God doesn’t exempt you from going through the valleys. Our lives are still going to go through seasons, but one thing we can count on is that God will never change. He is our constant Friend. I’m thankful for His mercy and grace!

  53. 1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. Jesus is the living water for my soul. When I wandered through life in a desert place without Jesus my soul was forever thirsty and but no matter what I tried, I could never be filled. I never want to lose my way and again wander without my Jesus. He has filled and continues to fill me so that I may be a witness of him to all that I meet because his well will never run dry and there is plenty for every soul that will come to him
