Proverbs 9

Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:

She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.

She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,

Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,

Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.

Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot.

Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.

Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

12 If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.

13 A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.

14 For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,

15 To call passengers who go right on their ways:

16 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,

17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.

18 But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.

  1. Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.
    Proverbs 9:10 NLT
Keep you eyes on the Lord and know that all knowledge comes from the Lord that includ our talents and skills it’s all the Lord

  2. We can tell by the way we respond to criticism if we are a mocker or a wise person. We need to learn from and listen to our critics.

  3. Verses 10-11 AMP “The [reverent] fear of the Lord [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the beginning and the preeminent part of wisdom [its starting point and its essence], And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding and spiritual insight. For by me (wisdom from God) your days will be multiplied, And years of life shall be increased.” Wisdom versus Foolishness……which will you choose?

As we read in Proverbs 4:5-7 AMP “Get [skillful and godly] wisdom! Acquire understanding [actively seek spiritual discernment, mature comprehension, and logical interpretation]! Do not forget nor turn away from the words of my mouth. “Do not [b]turn away from her (Wisdom) and she will guard and protect you; Love her, and she will watch over you. “The beginning of wisdom is: Get [skillful and godly] wisdom [it is preeminent]! And with all your acquiring, get understanding [actively seek spiritual discernment, mature comprehension, and logical interpretation].”

  4. 12 If you are wise, wisdom is its own reward. If you mock what you don’t understand, you alone will suffer the consequences. Voice

What is the reward for getting wisdom? Having wisdom. Until we realize that is enough, we don’t have enough.

Want wisdom? Here’s the first step:

10 Reverence for the Eternal, the one True God, is the beginning of wisdom; true knowledge of the Holy One is the start of understanding.

  5. 8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.
9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

  6. GO BUILD A HOUSE

9 Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:

Wisdom is defined as the “application of knowledge”. As we apply knowledge of GOD and HIS Kingdom to our lives we expand the room and opportunity for WISDOM in our lives.

Knowledge added to knowledge builds or makes an addition. To build our house to GOD we must apply what we KNOW of and about GOD to our lives. We must GO beyond the elementary or beginning stages of knowing about GOD and progress to the place that we KNOW JESUS.

The proverb states that she “Wisdom” hath hewn out “carved out” 7 pillars or supports for her house. The number 7 represents the number of “completion”.

I believe the 7 pillars are identified in:

Proverbs 6:16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

The 7 things that GOD hates are most likely the 7 things that GOD builds on. Thereby the reason for them to be hewn out.

2672. chatsab, khaw-tsab´; or chatseb, khaw-tsabe´; a primitive root ; to cut or carve (wood), stone or other material); by implication, to hew, split, square, quarry, engrave:—cut, dig, divide, grave, hew (out, -er), made, mason.

To carve or cut something out, means to do away with the unnecessary. Therefore as we do away with the 7 things that GOD hates, we are building 7 pillars or supports for the house of WISDOM.

    Lets GO build a house.

  7. 9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

Wisdom is gained through experience, we often hear “we learn from our mistakes”. That saying is very true, Ibut how many mistakes does it take to finally learn is my question? The answer to that one lies in your hands, you decide whether or not to receive instruction.

I bless you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ

  8. Leave your simple ways behind, and begin to live; learn to use good judgment.”
    Proverbs 9:6
Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.
    9:10

Fear and respect of the Most High God is the foundation of safe and wise living. Study the Word. Knowledge of Him brings about good judgement. The LORD guides those that He favors, those that walk in His ways.

  9. 9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

  10. Proverbs 9:11 (English Amp) For by me [Wisdom from GOD] your days shall be multiplied, and the years of your life shall be increased. This means you will you will build you Faith , Your knowledge of learning God’s ways. To fear God with all your heart. And live your best for God. God’s past is our pledge. Live for Jesus forever.

  11. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. For by me your days will be multiplied, and years of life will be added to you. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

  12. Hannah: “4 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, 5 Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled. 6 Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.” All the ways of the foolish are nothing, but the ways of the wise will bring you far. Always be around people who lift you up and encourage you with your walk with God. You will gain understanding and you will always have someone to look out for you. If instead you surround yourself by foolish people then you will turn more foolish. There would be no one to encourage you with your walk with God, and the foolish people around you will not look out for you. Always surround yourself with Godly and wise people. You will go further in the Lord since you will always have lights and examples around you.

8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. 9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

This is a life lesson 101. Put this in the bank…When you correct a person and they get mad, angry, or lash out at you, be assured that person is “scorner”. The bible instructs us to teach the wise and they will become wiser. Leave the other folks alone…They will hate you if you try to correct them.

  14. 8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.

9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

A sure way to distinguish between a fool and a wise men WATCH HIS REACTION WHEN CORRECTED!!!!

  15. 9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

  16. 5 Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.

6 Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

7 He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot.

  17. 9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
12 If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.

We each are accountable to apply wisdom to our lives. Wisdom can’t be given, but through teaching, it can become knowledge (which when applied is wisdom). I’m thankful for all those who teach God’s word, whether to children, youth or adults.

  18. 8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.
9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

Lord let my heart always be one that is seeking wisdom and open to correction. There in lies the difference between wisdom and foolishness. Being open to being told we are wrong and fearing God. Something about our pride that needs to be broken to accept the possibility of not always being right. I don’t like having that in my mind…I want my heart to be open and accountable.

  19. 9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

To have wisdom you must respect, honor, fear, obey the Lord, but that is only where it starts, to continue to gain wisdom you must listen to instructions and corrections!

  20. Proverbs 9:9, “Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

  21. I Love To Worship The Lord
vs-11 I wisdom will make the hours f your day more profitable and the years of your life more fritful

  22. We can’t afford to forget the first steps in our walk with God. ‘The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.’ That first step in wisdom begins with a step of faith towards the fear of the Lord, and as you learn a proper respect for the will and ways of God, the steps that follow on to understanding will lead you on a holy walk with a holy God down a holy path that leads to his holy abode. We don’t have to worry about the simplicity of those first steps because ‘Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.’ God doesn’t condemn our lack of understanding, he just asks that our hunger and thirst after righteousness would continue to bring us into a closer walk with God in purity and understanding. This isn’t anything we should ever ‘outgrow’ in our walk with God. ‘Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.’ This speaks of a basic principle in the kingdom of God: a desire to know more of him, to come closer to him, to recognize that regardless of where God brings us to there is always a next step in faith with him! Even the wise can increase in wisdom and even a just man can continue to learn how to walk wiser in the holy ways of perfection. Such a sharp contrast to the latter verses of this proverb: ‘Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant. But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.’ This speaks the mindset of the world so well and yet the Bible clearly declares that despite the passing sweetness and pleasure, the blindness of such a spirit is leading them right to the gates of hell and the spiritual death and separation from God that such a spirit brings. O let our desire be for the bread and the wine that Jesus has to offer for our soul! Allow our soul to desire life and cry out for the wisdom we need to make it to eternity with him!

  23. Proverbs 9
9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

We can never be too old naturally or spiritually to gain more wisdom more instructions. As we receive we may just find out we did not know everything like we thought we did . And who in this world could not use a bit more wisdom. So don’t disregard instruction could be the one that will help u not mIss Heaven .

    His Strength is Perfect

  24. Josiah: 9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
When you give instruction to a wise person they can be wiser. However it can also go the other way. If we seek wisdom and people give us instruction we can get wiser. Further more if we are just we can increase our learning when people teach us. Sometimes listening can get you more than speaking. Proverbs 1:5 says “A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsel:” “A wise man will HEAR” So, let us GO with EARS THAT HEAR and increase wisdom and understanding! Let’s have church tonight!

  25. 10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
To fear God means to have reverence and respect for Him it means to have such a awe and reverence that we would never do anything to displease Him. When we do that we are just beginning to understand wisdom. We are just starting to grasp what true wisdom and understanding is. Also to have the knowledge of holy and that which is righteous is understanding. Its one thing to know something but its another thing to understand. Thats why in another passage the bible says… “with all thy getting get understanding.”

  26. “So don’t bother correcting mockers; they will only hate you. But correct the wise, and they will love you. Instruct the wise, and they will be even wiser. Teach the righteous, and they will learn even more.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭9:8-9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Some people will not accept your message if it corrects error in their life. Those who are wise are eager to take instruction from someone who knows a little more. The only people who can increase in learning are the ones who want to learn.

  27. 3 She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,

We need to find a spot and look at our city and cry for the souls that roam the streets of FortWorth. People all around this area need Jesus! We need to have a burden for the people of our area to win them so they can experience salvation just like us. Thank you Jesus!

  28. 9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

    Never too old to learn.
A wise man will tell you that he is always trying to learn something new. A new book, a new seminar, something to increase his knowledge. So why do we think that we are where we want to be, that we have arrived? As this passage states, a wise man will become wiser if you give him instruction. So study to learn more and more each day. Knowledge is power, but wisdom is what you do with that knowledge.
    #GODOSOMETHING by increasing your wisdom.

  29. 8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.

9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

The blessing and favor of the lord is with us when we obey the lords commandments and obey our elders and leaders with the right sprit.

  30. Proverbios 9:11y12 Gracias a la sabiduría, vivirás mucho tiempo
y aumentarán los años de tu vida.
    Si eres sabio, tuyo será el provecho;
si eres insolente, tuya será la responsabilidad.

  31. 9-10 Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

God let me gain wisdom and knowledge in your word and by the people in my life. Guide me on the straight path towards you! God let me be open to you that I’ll receive your teaching as your servent!

  32. It’s so easy to tell when a person is wise. They have a teachable spirit and they walk according to the directions given them. Sometimes people are trying not to allow you to fall into a pit so it’s best to follow their advise.

  33. 9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

If we want to grow in wisdom, we must learn to listen to instructions. We cannot become wiser if we do not learn to listen and follow.

  34. 5 Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.

6 Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

I beleive that when she is talking about eating the bread she is talking about knowledge, how can we understand the word of God and forsake the foolish if we dont know what we are doing, the word of God is the bread of life, and its all laid out chapter by chapter and verse by verse, all we have to do is read it and study it, keep it on our hearts and live by it,

17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.

18 But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.

What is done in the dark will surely come to light, there is nothing that we do in the dark God doesnt know about, a little bit of dishonesty can be sweet for a second, but sooner or later it wears you down, it haunts you, nothing about the world is sweet, all that, that life has for me and anyone else is DEATH, and why chose death when we can have life!
Luke 8:17 For Nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.

  35. 9.Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

Correction is no fun, but it is needed, that might become closer to him, as a fool will end up in hell.

  36. 9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

Only fools reject instruction and it’s usually because of pride. A just and wise man humbly will accept an instruction given

  37. Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
    Proverbs 9:8‭-‬10 KJV
    http://bible.com/1/pro.9.8-10.KJV

So as I read this passage; it hit me. Most people don’t like to be corrected: hence the “scorner”. That is most of the world today; there are those few that will sit and listen to counsel. They will take the reproof and what was taught upon. Those are the ones that God watches for. He wants the ones that can take instruction from the spirit. God will use anyone to bring His light to those that are seeking Him earnestly. It is true that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; the spirit will teach you how to get wisdom. The spirit is understanding: without understanding there is no wisdom. The path of the foolish leads to death. Yes it can feel good for a season; but without correction where would I be. God knows how to correct and guide me when I go astray. Let not my feet turn me to the path of the foolish. Father keep me on your path and from going into the depths of hell. Teach me, correct me, and give me the mind to be stayed on your word; let me gain from the knowledge of your word. I thank you Jesus for my life today.

Phil. 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

  38. “If you reason with an arrogant cynic, you’ll get slapped in the face; confront bad behavior and get a kick in the shins. So don’t waste your time on a scoffer; all you’ll get for your pains is abuse. But if you correct those who care about life, that’s different—they’ll love you for it! Save your breath for the wise—they’ll be wiser for it; tell good people what you know—they’ll profit from it. Skilled living gets its start in the Fear-of- GOD, insight into life from knowing a Holy God. It’s through me, Lady Wisdom, that your life deepens, and the years of your life ripen. Live wisely and wisdom will permeate your life; mock life and life will mock you.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭9:7-12‬ ‭MSG‬‬

When working with people sometimes we encounter those who don’t always want to change their ways. Some people will pretend that they want to change and some will even mock it.

But when we are able to help those that truly want to change it makes it all worth it. Live wisely and wisdom will permeate your life.

  39. 10″The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.”

In order to gain wisdom we to need to obey the Lord and listen unto him. Fear, obedience, and honoring him is only just the beginning. But gaining wisdom is where listening to him and living righteous is Where you can have him guide you in the path he wants you to go!

  40. “Anyone who rebukes a mocker will get an insult in return. Anyone who corrects the wicked will get hurt. So don’t bother correcting mockers; they will only hate you. But correct the wise, and they will love you. Instruct the wise, and they will be even wiser. Teach the righteous, and they will learn even more.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭9:7-9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Sometimes it’s hard to see a loved one going down the wrong path. It seems like the more to reach for them the more they push you away and hate you. It’s in those situations that prayer is key. I’ve thought a lot about how Jesus made disciples and spent time with them and taught them and they all turned away. But thankfully 11 came back to the kingdom. And even though they had made a mistake and turn the way God still restored them and use them to birth the church.

  41. 4-6 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled. Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

It is easy to live for God when things are good with money in the bank, everyone is healthy and washing machine works. It is a much more difficult story when the storms of life hit with full force. At such times, it’s easy to lose focus or even to make doubt your faith. James claims to consider it all joy when things get bumpy.

Making it through trials with joy goes against our natural response to pressure. When trials hit, we generally ask, “Why is this happening to me?” That is the wrong question. Sometimes, God graciously reveals to us the reason for the trial but not always. The answer may never be revealed. Let’s try these questions next time: “How can I understand this trial from God’s perspective? How can I navigate through this storm in such a way as to bring glory to God? How can this trial help me grow in maturity?”

God’s wisdom does not come as a sudden revelation or impression that hits out of nowhere. You won’t find it in Dear Abby. God’s wisdom comes directly from God and is revealed in His Word. It especially centers in the knowledge of who He is, “in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge”

  42. 8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.

One quick way to know a person. I recently was speaking to a friend of mine who claimed to hate the world around them because of people telling them what to do all the time. Now they’ve come to a point of loneliness out of spite and are completely clueless as to how to handle life. This friend walked out of the house of wisdom and entered the house of the foolish woman. It’s one thing to hear and take advice for a moment, but it’s important we stay put where we belong, where we know is right.

  43. 8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.
9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

As David said Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O LORD, and teachest him out of thy law; Solomon confirms this for a wise man will love them that rebuke him and give instruction for they know it is for their good and be wise, likewise a just man. So if the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom, and reproving increases wisdom. Blessed indeed is the man whom God chastenest for not only is God setting them back on the right path, he is increasing their wisdom, and understanding. May I grow in both, and love correction.

  44. 8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.

A scorner enjoys urighteousness and leave behind a path of destruction wherever they go. They are toxic relationships filled with distain and despicable abuse taking advantage of righteous servants. Correcting a foolish scorner births hate. When you go to a righteous servant with a correction they welcome it and it increases love. What does light have to do with darkness? Amos 3:3 How can two walk unless they agree? 1 Cor 15:33 “Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals. Proverbs 13:20 ”Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.” Toxic relationship should be avoided. “If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell”. If you can identify a scorner better to server ties and go to heaven then be pulled into their folly and spend eternity in hell. Remember birds of a feather flock together.

  45. 10. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. Thank you Jesus !!!!

  46. Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.
    Proverbs 9:6 KJV

Their are foolish people we should leave alone if we want to live. Fools lead a life toward death and destruction. The righteous go in the way of understanding seeking life and first the kingdom of God.
