Acts Chapter 12

40 Days of FIRE – Day 12

Day 12: Acts Ch.12. Peter appears to be just hours away from being executed by King Herod when he is miraculously released from prison by an angel of the Lord. He then visits a house full of disciples who are praying for him. Prayer works! Prayerfully thank God for hearing and answering every one of our prayers.

Acts 12

Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.

And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.

And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)

And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.

Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.

And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.

10 When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.

11 And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

12 And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.

13 And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.

14 And when she knew Peter’s voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate.

15 And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.

16 But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.

17 But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.

18 Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter.

19 And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the keepers, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judaea to Caesarea, and there abode.

20 And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king’s chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king’s country.

21 And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.

22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.

23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

24 But the word of God grew and multiplied.

25 And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministry, and took with them John, whose surname was Mark.

  1. And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministry, and took with them John, whose surname was Mark.
    Acts 12:25 KJV

Barnabus and Saul only returned to Jerusalem after they had fulfilled their ministry. I think there are a few things to note about this simple statement:
    1) They knew what and where their ministry was. They were clear about their purpose and calling. They knew how to get direction from God.
    2) They were obedient and faithful to the call. They stayed until the job was done. They didn’t bail when the job got difficult or when they didn’t get enough recognition. They were in it for the long haul. They were determined to finish what they started.
    3) They were in it together. They had teamwork and unity of purpose. They weren’t trying to out do one another but were able to work peaceably together so that they could accomplish more.
    4) They were sensitive and obedient enough to leave when God said that their job there was done. They didn’t stay in the same place because it had become comfortable. They were able to turn over the reins of their past work and step into a new future with God. They allowed God full control over every area and day of their lives.

God help us to be just as sensitive, obedient, and faithful as were Barnabus and Saul

Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power: That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
    2 Thessalonians 1:11‭-‬12 KJV

  2. 6 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.
7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

It doesn’t matter how your situation looks like, you could feel like your in prison, stuck on each side, bound by chains, down and out, locked up with the keys through away.

Remember that these conditions have to exist for God to shine. How can we know God as a healer, if we are never sick, how can we know God as a deliverer if we have never been bound, how can we know God as our very present help if everything is alright all the time.

If you can believe that what you are going through, will somehow bring God glory and stop trying to figure it our for yourself, God can shine through your darkness and what seemed to be in defeat was really just, a miracle in the making.

The only way to lose is to give up!

  3. Verse 5 MSG “All the time that Peter was under heavy guard in the jailhouse, the church prayed for him most strenuously.” Same verse AMP “So Peter was kept in prison, but fervent and persistent prayer for him was being made to God by the church.” Same verse CEV “While Peter was being kept in jail, the church never stopped praying to God for him.” The time is now church (POFW), we must keep our brothers and sisters lifted up in prayer. Many have gone astray or been deceived; but, we must never stop praying for them.

Ephesians 6:13-18 MSG “Be prepared. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet. Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. You’ll need them throughout your life. God’s Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out.”

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 MSG “Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.”

  4. Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church. 12 So when he had considered this, he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose surname was Mark, where many were gathered together praying.

  5. Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

Not only is this the power of prayer at work but this reveals the faith Peter had. Jesus told Peter that he saw him when he was full of old age, Peter knew that he would not die the following day because of this statement. Jesus Told Peter he would be older before he died, and Peter one there was more for him to do and more people for him to reach. We must obtain that faith when things get hard, that God will see us through, before there is more for us in store. When Jesus got on the boat with the desciples and told them they would go to the other side, then feel asleep during the storm. God is taking us to there other side, we have nothing to worry about when hard times come our way.

  6. 24 But the word of God grew and multiplied.

His word remains and God will forever reign! Just when the enemy thinks he’s gaining ground, when he’s too busy glorifying himself through your mess; remember Gods word. We stand on the promises of God and it’s not His will for us to stay shut up in bondage. He’s got a plan and it will always bring Him glory!

  7. THY KINGDOM COME
    ANSWERED PRAYER

11 And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

14 And when she knew Peter’s voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate.

The WORD of GOD is filled with wonder testimonies of trial and triumph.

    JESUS is on TIME.

But, the miracles begin with DISCIPLESHIP. Walking with JESUS; daily PRAYER, FAITH in JESUS for anything, OBEDIENCE to the WORD of GOD, SUBMISSION to AUTHORITY, we read about the HOW and the WHO chapter after chapter here in the book of Acts.

    MIRACLES HAPPEN
    PRAYER IS ANSWERED
    WILL WE BELIEVE

How will we respond when the answer to our prayer is knocking at our door?

I have heard that some people do not believe in angels or their power to operate in the natural. However, Peter would disagree. The GOSPEL of JESUS and the Book of Acts of the Apostles is to declare and decree to us what our GOD can and will do for HIS own.

Seeking FIRST the Kingdom of GOD is not rocket science, nor is it boring, it is an adventure in eternal matters. JESUS bring us near to you in these 40 Days of FIRE.

  11. Acts 12

5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

12…….. John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.

    Unbelieving Prayer Meeting
These people had no belief in what they were praying for. They had all gathered together to pray for deliverance for Peter but declared that when the gurl told them he was standing at the door.
    1. We are to go into His presence with thanksgiving as if He has already answered the prayer.
Faith is the substance of things hoped for evidence of things not seen! Here they were seeing what their faith had brought about but yet did not believe evidently God would answer.
    2. Rhoda shut the door on the miracle.
How many times have we shut the door even after seeing a miracle performed ? We question or say wonder how long that will last or was that really God. We fail to recognize what God has actually done !
    3. They were in astonishment when they finally came to the realization it was Peter standing before them and not a Ghost nor a girl gone mad.
3 elements of an an unbelieving prayer meeting.

I want to stand on this promise every time I go to God in prayer. I want to believe that those I am praying for arevto be set free from every prison this world has bound them in. Why waste time praying if we do it believe we are going to see the impossible become possible! Lord help our unbelief and help us come before You knowing You will answer our prayers for the last st for the Kingdom in Jesus Name.

    Matthew 19
26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

  12. 6 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.
7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

God’s timing is always right on time

  13. 17 But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.

22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.

23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

Look at the difference between Herod and Peter. Peter lifted up God and gave Him glory but Herod seen the people praising him and I believe his flesh got in the way because he didn’t give credit where credit was due. All Glory is to God! Don’t leave God out when there’s a good service or a good word delivered to someone who was in need. After all Gods the only reason you’re standing here today.
    I give you Glory
    HEY
    Did not triumph!
Bless you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ

  14. Paul wrote to the church at Thessalonica to pray without ceasing. Here we see that principle in action: ‘Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.’ There was nothing in their own power they could do, so they continued in prayer steadfastly that God would perform the work they were unable to affect themselves. This was obviously not a one time affair. When the angel delivered Peter, the Bible says, ‘And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.’ Peter did not have to be told by the angel where to go. When he stopped and considered what the saints would be doing, he knew exactly where they would be at in prayer.

It was also the middle of the night and yet it says that many were gathered together praying. They didn’t just check the box and find a convenient time to bring Peter’s need before the Lord and leave a few alone to cover the midnight hour… they did it in the strength of the body! They did not know that Peter would be freed that night or even if he would be…. they had after all already witnessed the stoning of Stephen for his faith. Why would Peter fair any better? Despite that immediate reminder, they refused to back down or be discouraged and chose to pray together that God would make a difference!

Prayer should never be our last resort.. that’s why we pray without ceasing, but when there is no way before us, prayer is still effective! He can make a way where there is no way. So let us pray together! Let his house continue to be called the house of prayer! Let each of our individual houses also be a house of prayer! Let our prayers be more than just a commitment… let them be part of our strength in our walk with God!

  15. 21 And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.

22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.

23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

It is always important to give God the glory and praise for what He is doing in our lives. Not just because of the fear of God killing us if we don’t, but rather because He is worthy of it. In this natural flesh, if someone helped us out with something we would thank them and probably tell others of how that person helped. How is it different with God? When He brings us through something or helps us out with a situation we should not be shy; we should give God thanks and praise Him for what He has done!

  16. 14 And when she knew Peter’s voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate.

15 And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.

Bro Lee Stoneking has a message where he preaches about our guardian angels taking on our characteristic and our features. We know that anytime you spend time with someone or something for a long period of time it leaves imprints on you. I think the same goes for our angels. Of course, they didn’t see Peter’s angel they actually saw him. But what if we could pray and dispatch angels that were guardians for our Apostalic forefathers to come and aid in situations? ….hmmmm…..

  17. 21 And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.

22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.

23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

24 But the word of God grew and multiplied.

  18. 23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

24 But the word of God grew and multiplied.

We need to let the things in our life that do not glorify God to die, and allow His word to grow and multiply in our hearts!

  19. 5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

The simple statement – but prayer was made without ceasing of the church Unto God for him. They were serious about petitioning the Lord to free him from prison because they knew if not the outcome would be just like James.

When we are serious about petitioning the Lord for a specific matter, we become like the little widow who wearied the judge, don’t stop until we get an answer. Too many times, we pray about it once and never mention it again. Make a memorial before the Lord with thanksgiving and praise regarding the outcome of that prayer and watch it happen. God does answer the prayers of those who diligently seek Him.

  20. 7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

8 And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

9 And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.

There is a lot to be said for obedience. If Peter thinking it was a vision would of sat there like a frog on a log, he would of never been freed but Peter obeyed the Angel of God and did as instructed. Therefore he was rewarded with freedom! Thank you Jesus for He is the Real Freedom!!!!

  21. But while peter was in prison, the church prayed very earnestly for him.
    Acts 12:5 NLT

When prayer is made the supernatural takes place.

  22. 12 And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.

25 And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministry, and took with them John, whose surname was Mark.

Isn’t it a beautiful thing, the way Jesus works things out for us.

  23. 1 Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.

2 And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.

3 And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)

4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.

5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

8 And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

James was one of the sons of Zebedee, whom Christ told that they should drink of the cup that he was to drink of, and be baptized with the baptism that he was to be baptized with, Matthew 20:23. Now the words of Christ were made good in him; and if we suffer with Christ, we shall reign with him. Herod imprisoned Peter: the way of persecution, as of other sins, is downhill; when men are in it, they cannot easily stop. Those make themselves an easy prey to Satan, who make it their business to please men. Thus James finished his course. But Peter, being designed for further services, was safe; though he seemed now marked out for a speedy sacrifice. We that live in a cold, prayerless generation, can hardly form an idea of the earnestness of these holy men of old. But if the Lord should bring on the church an awful persecution like this of Herod, the faithful in Christ would learn what soul-felt prayer is.

  24. iLove the Kingdom
6 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.

Notice the timing of God…God could have delivered Peter at an earlier time and date but chose to deliver him right at the last minute. Why? I’m really not sure except for the fact that God is the Author of the story and He might like an exciting plot…Why do movie makers and book writers wait till the last minute to rescue the main character of their stories? Nevertheless, God is truly the Author and Finisher of our faith and He has our lives in His hands. One thing is for sure…Peter wasn’t worried and losing any sleep about it.

  25. 9:10 when they were past the first and The second ward, they came unto. The iron gate that leaders unto the city; which opopened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forth with the angel departed from him.

  26. 16 But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished

I’ve been told many times not to give up. If you want something or you want to be able to do something to keep going, keep trying, keep practicing. It doesn’t matter how many times you fail, keep going.
I’ve also been told that it’s OK to remind God of promises that have not come to pass yet.

  27. 2 And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.
I remember a study about the different ministries each apostle had but no one wanted the ministry that James had. His job was to die for the cause of the kingdom and we all are supposed to die to self but James was to be a martyr. There are not a lot of people lining up for that calling but when we say, Lord whatever it takes, it is included. We should say as Paul, [Phl 1:21 KJV] 21 For to me to live [is] Christ, and to die [is] gain.

  28. 5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

  29. 21 And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.
22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.
23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.
24 But the word of God grew and multiplied.
Regardless of the ability the God gives an individual; we must always give God ALL of the honor and glory!

  30. Acts 12:5 & 7
    5) Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.
    7) And, behold, an angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

1 Thess. 5:17 tells us to, “Pray Without Ceasing.” Never Stop Praying!! We never know when God sends forth a Ministering Angel, or when He shines His Light on someone, or whose chains are being Loosed because of our Prayers and Intercession. Remember the “… The Effectual Fervent Prayer of a Righteous Man Availeth Much (James 5:15).

    KEEP PRAYING!!!!

  31. Acts 1211 & 12

  32. As I read this chapter; I began thinking about what have I done to glorify God lately. Nothing: where has my faith been here lately. I want to give all the glory to God, even in my times of iniquity. God knows my heart and where He wants me. Do I know; of course not. Why, because I’m to busy focusing on other things. Herod died because he to caught up in himself. I don’t want to be a Herod: I want God to lead me like Barnebus and Saul. How can that happen except through prayer and fasting. Two things I have difficulty getting into doing. I need to be completely broken for God to build me back up. I thank you Jesus for this blog and opening my eyes.

  33. I Love To Worship The Lord
So Peter Left The cell following the angel. But all the time he thought it was a dream or vison and didnt believe it was really happening

  34. He was in prison but God brought him out. God can bring you out to. People will be afraid because they know not of him. But those who understand him will see that. remember to give him the glory . For he is the king of kings and lord of lords.

  35. 21 And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.
22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.
23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

Give God all Glory and Honor

  36. angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his h

  37. Josiah: 5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.
God hears the prayers of the church. Peter was in prison and the angel got him and brought him out, but the church was praying without ceasing. Sometimes we do not see anything at first but God can be doing stuff behind the scenes. When Peter came to John’s mother Mary’s house there were people praying and the first thing they probably knew unless God showed them ahead of time was Peter knocking at the door before getting let in! So, let us PRAY FAITHFULLY AND STEADFASTFULLY!

  38. But the word of God grew and multiplied.
    Acts 12:24 KJV

I want the word of the Lord múltiples in my heart and in my mind.

  39. 11 And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

Pray pray pray without ceasing untill the Lord takes you by surprise with your answer. Don’t lose faith but let the request be made to God. Tell him who can do something about it. And always give God the glory.

  40. All for the glory

God doesn’t play around about his glory. Every miracle that I’ve seen with my own eyes has been in a service where no one was trying to steal the glory. There are plenty of imitators out there that put hocus pocus on people and they think they got a miracle from a man. This scripture just reminds us that flesh cannot do the spiritual. All flesh will be consumed by worms one day. Real miracles come directly from God through faith. Worms are waiting for the glory thiefs.

  41. Michael Johnson

When the church doesn’t cease to pray and keeps the unity we will be astonished just as they were when they saw Peter at the gate. When we are unified God only knows what will happen. Don’t be surprised if your prayer comes true.

  42. Peter finally came to his senses. “It’s really true!” he said. “The Lord has sent his angel and saved me from Herod and from what the Jewish leaders had planned to do to me!” When he realized this, he went to the home of Mary, the mother of John Mark, where many were gathered for prayer.
Acts of the Apostles 12:11‭-‬12 NLT

Prayers and angels go hand in hand!!! The LORD waiting to hear the voice of his children to cry out unto Him. ‘Send up Judah!’

  43. Olivia Johnson

Peter is like the lost souls in our city.
We are like the angel that came to get him out of prison.
We have to get them out of prison and free.

  44. And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

Let us be reminded that God deserves all the honor. We may achieve great things in life or life may not always be great but one thing if for sure We should always give God glory.

  45. 8 And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

Oh thank you Jesus! I will gird myself and go into battle in spiritual warfare. The lord has set me in a time and place ready for revival! My God your power is so great and mighty!

  46. Acts 12:23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the Ghost.

Psalm 115:1 Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy Ruth’s sake.

    Glory to God’s Name!

  47. The people gave him a great ovation, shouting, “It’s the voice of a god, not of a man!” Instantly, an angel of the Lord struck Herod with a sickness, because he accepted the people’s worship instead of giving the glory to God. So he was consumed with worms and died.
Acts of the Apostles 12:22‭-‬23 NLT

Everything that we do is for His kingdom and God gets all the glory and honor. Don’t let the enemy fool you into thinking that its because of you that things are accomplish and you want to take credit for it. The devil wanted to get the glory and see what happened to him. He was kicked out. Don’t be kicked out just because you want something that doesn’t belong to you.

  48. “And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda. And when she knew Peter’s voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate. And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel. But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭12:13-16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Peter went To the house of people who knew were supporting him. He knew that they would rejoice and be glad that God delivered him as they were praying for him and they loved him. One was so happy that they ran off and left him out. The others didn’t really believe that he was there as they thought their prayers weren’t answered.

Of the people that were praying I would rather be Rhoda than the skeptics. Rhoda just needed to calm down and open the gate. The other people didn’t even believe that God would answer their prayers. Both had some sort of correction that needed to occur with their behavior.

Most of all we should be like Peter. We should never give up. He kept knocking until the initial joy wore off and the door opened.

  49. 23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

My DADDY ALWAYS GETS THE GLORY!!!

  50. 23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

We must make sure to ALWAYS give God the glory for the things he has done! If not we run the risk of God’s judgment.

  51. 23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

When we are selfish and proud, focusing on ourselves, we are stealing God’s glory. Any time that we receive praise and we do not direct it towards God instead of ourselves, we are stealing God’s glory. We should measure our actions by the same standards. We could do something really nice for someone and it would be complete sin if we do it to draw attention to ourselves.

  52. 23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

King Herod made the mistake of withholding God’s praise. Its hard to deny praising God especially after being broke out of heaven by an angel. Situations can make us feel as if we are bound up in prison, but God can turn it all around. Just give God the glory due his name and all will be okay.
