Jonah 3

1 And the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the second time, saying,

Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.

So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days’ journey.

And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.

So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.

For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.

And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:

But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.

Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?

10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

  1. 1 And the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the second time, saying,

2 Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.

3 So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days’ journey.

4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.

Scripture stated the word came to Jonah a second time to go to Nineveh and He wasted no time to getting there. As he entered the city cry of the judgment coming from God. Sometimes it takes something drastic to change a mindset and get someone to move in the direction that God has ordained. Why is it that it takes a life altering event to move some people and get their attention. I find that when God calls man he usually equips them for the task and it is usually something that we are not comfortable in doing. God usually takes us out of comfort zone. No matter what, our steps are ordered of God if we choose to go.

It is time for us to become a willing vessel to go and do what God has called us to do. We are to be a light in the darkness of this world and we find that the harvest is ready and the outpouring of the spirit of God is happening. We just need to make ourselves available. We need to live like Jesus to be examples of what God can do for them that need saving. It is time to make the last great push for the kingdom of God because time is running out.

  2. Jonah Chapter 3

4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.

5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.

6 For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.

7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:

8 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.

9 Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?

10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

What do we learned? We have learned that the wages of sin is death but seeking after God and repenting. Turns the curse of death to Life. As we obey Jesus and ask forgiveness the curse is lifted. As we allow our selves to be baptized in Jesus name. He washes all our sins away in the blood of the Lamb and rise out of the water we are clean. Then He gives us the power to live by that redemption and receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. See Acts 2: 38 and 39 Read all the book of acts and you will see the apostils are no longer afraid to speak and declare Jesus is Lord of all. You will never find a person baptized in The Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Ghost. No one was in all the New Testament. Let us also follow Jesus in the same baptism that John taught. John baptized Jesus. Mathew 3 Jesus knew who he was He was Jesus and he was sinless, Yet John baptized for the remission of sins and when he came out of the water He received the Holy Spirit. The next chapter4 he defeated the devil by declaring the words of the old testament. Deuteronomy 8:3, And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.
Deuteronomy 6:16 Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.
Deuteronomy 6:13 Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name. The devil left. The three steps he took are the same found in Acts 2:38-39. We are to follow Jesus.

  3. “Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.

So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.

Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not? And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.”
    ‭‭Jonah‬ ‭3:2, 5, 9-10‬ ‭KJV

POFW we as a body in Christ have been called to our city to proclaim the Gospel. Today we go out into the streets to pray for this region during this time of revival. Let us all repent so we may see the Glory of GOD come. It’s through you and I revival will begin.

WE ARE HIS PEOPLE OF HIS NAME. Hallelujah!!!

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
    ‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭7:14‬ ‭KJV‬‬
I pray we will continue to have favor with those who serve in our city government.

  4. 10. And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

When they repented of their sins, God repented of the justice He was about to give.
I’m so thankful we serve a merciful God who has given us time to repent and hasn’t given us what we deserve!

    God has never been
    obligated to give us life
If we fought for our rights
    we’d be in hell tonight

  5. 2 Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.

When we are obedient and submitted to what God wants to do, entire cities can be saved! What a day to read this chapter as we go to pray for our own city. In Jesus Name, we’re gonna see revival!!

  6. 9 Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

God’s heart is still near a repentant soul. While he is vengeful and just and he will not tolerate sin, his love and mercy truly does endure when a heart turns from its evil way bends it’s knees and lifts up the heavenly Host. Sometimes we are way too hard on ourselves whenever we make a mistake, when God is just in heaven ready to pour out mercy and Grace upon repentance

  7. iLove the Kingdom of Jesus2

insert from Brother Google- Nineveh was an ancient Assyrian city of Upper Mesopotamia, located on the outskirts of Mosul in modern-day northern Iraq. It is located on the eastern bank of the Tigris River and was the capital and largest city of the Neo-Assyrian Empire, as well as the largest city in the world for several decades.- (end of insert)

The great influence from Jonahs preaching is seen here with the enemies of Israel (the Assyrians) adopting the Jewish customs of repentance with sack cloth, ashes, and fasting. With the very influence of the King of Assyria, this shows us that they feared the God of the Hebrews. One possible reason could have been the influence of the Assyrians Captain of the host. It’s possible the very powerful man who once was a leper influenced Nineveh to believe the man of God. Regardless, God is once again showing the enemies of Israel mercy…and this really upset Jonah.

  8. God is so good to us and loves us so much. He is such a good father and he wants us to be successful, happy and disciplined. In our reading today we see good example of him being merciful and kind. Rewarded for his obedience Jonah was spared and also rewarded for his faithfulness. My God lives and reigns forever. I love POFW!

  9. “Then God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God relented from the disaster that He had said He would bring upon them, and He did not do it.”
    ‭‭Jonah‬ ‭3:10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
Their repentance moved the Lord to show them His grace and mercy.

  10. Jonah finally goes to Nineveh and proclaim, wake them up, and stirred their faith. Everyone dresses in sack clothes as a sign of sacrifice bit is their heart. The people of Nineveh begIn to repent from the heart. Our God is si good and His Mercies endureth forever!!! Our God never lets us sin in sin HE ALWAYS MAKES A WAY TO EXCAPE !!! So don’t give up, look around your way and

  11. 8 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
9 Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

Repentance is the main theme. However it appears that the key emphasis which is linked to the repentance is “God saw their works”. Apparently when we “cry mightily unto God” this strengthens our relationship with our savior.

  12. Verse 5 MSG “The people of Nineveh listened, and trusted God. They proclaimed a citywide fast and dressed in burlap to show their repentance. Everyone did it—rich and poor, famous and obscure, leaders and followers.” We are all in this together and we must repent as a unified body, trusting God as we go out to do what we have been called to do…..reach this city……”Impacting Lives to Change The World”.

  13. Jonah 3
10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

They turned from their evil ways. Repentance is a complete turning away from the things that are sin. God cover us today completely and forgive us of anything unlike You. We can never repay You for what You did at Calvary but to do our best to live for You and proclaim the Gospel…that others will repent in Jesus Name.
What Can Wash Away My Sins
What can wash away my sin?
    Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
    Oh! precious is the flow
    That makes me white as snow;
    No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
    2
For my cleansing this I see—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus!
For my pardon this my plea—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus!
    3
    Nothing can my sin erase
Nothing but the blood of Jesus!
Naught of works, ’tis all of grace—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus!
    4
This is all my hope and peace—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus!
    This is all my righteousness—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus!

  14. When the king of Nineveh heard what Jonah was saying, he stepped down from his throne and took off his royal robes. He dressed himself in burlap and sat on a heap of ashes.
    Jonah 3:6 NLT

Sorrowful repentance. True Repentance turns the heart of God. All the angels in heaven rejoice over even one sinner repenting!!

    THE IDEAL CHURCH SERVICE

1 And the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the second time, saying,

4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.

10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

In my mind this is THE IDEAL CHURCH SERVICE.

    GOD sends a Preacher
    The Preacher Preaches
The people believe, respond and repent
    GOD saves the people

The VICTORIES come through OBEDIENCE. The Preacher obeyed GOD and then the people obeyed GOD and both were VICTORIOUS.

  16. 10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

This is the result of repentance. God is a forgiving God, but we must come before him with a repented heart. Sin will always find you, the important thing is that we don’t allow ourselves to fall into it. We have the power to overcome all of the things of this world.

  17. 3:6 for word came unto the king of Nineveh
And he arose from his throne and he laid his robe from him, and cover with sackcloth and ashes.
    —-
    Wow!!🙌
    Arose from his throne…
    And laid his robe….
    Wow!!!
Thanks be to God, this man made the best choice.
He put his royalty to the side, and became the example of how to repent and change the direction
Of his life and everyone else.
    Hallelujah 🙌.
Humble, open mind, willing, and blessed.
Yes, I believe God blessed him in such a way.
And Nineveh had the best REVIVAL ever.
    Hallelujah.
    Isn’t God so merciful?

  18. 10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

When we genuinely repent and turn away from our evil ways, God grace and mercy can be extended upon us. Nineveh entire city was saved as they turned away from their evil ways, fasted and cried out for forgiveness. We have the same opportunity today to turn away, fast and cry out to God.
    He can do anything!
    Our family can be saved.
    Our city can be saved.
    Our nation can be saved.
    Glory to God!

  19. 5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.

The results of the people applying for Jonah was saying to their lives, brought about a repentance and the end result God repented for the evil that He was going to do to Nineveh.

If we will just apply the Word of God as he hear it or read it to our lives daily, it will cause us to walk a holier lifestyle, helping us to be pleasing to the Lord. God responds to our actions be they good or bad, its up to us what type of response we are going to get from the Lord.

Ezekiel 36:27 “And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.”

  20. 9 Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?

10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

Praise the Lord for the power of repentance, A fresh start. What a mighty God I serve.

    A.L.M.A.S.

  21. 3 “This time Jonah obeyed the Lord’s command and went…”

Thank God for the many opportunities we are given to get it right!
We serve a graceful and merciful God!

  22. I wonder if Nineveh leadership would have made a different decision had it not been for Sodom and Gomorrah? We are all a collection of our personal and observed experiences. The wise choose to learn from the past to make better decisions going forward. Likely, we have all heard the definition of insanity is doing something the same way, expecting different results.

How can we live and give more to/of Jesus if we dont grow and let God? I know it is hard to let go of things and allow God to work it in His time and His plan but we must learn.

  23. Jonah 3:2 Arise, go unto City of Fort Worth, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee. So POFW arose , and went unto COFW according to the word of the Lord. Now COFW was an exceeding great city of three days journey.

This is exactly what POFW is doing today at the Plaza
    Praise God!!

  24. 1Then the LORD spoke to Jonah a second time: 2“Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh, and deliver the message I have given you.”

The Lord has spoken to our Pastor. We have returned to the court house the last several years to reach our city. We are delivering God’s message for everyone to hear. Let’s be bold, and personally make a difference in someone’s life, by telling them about JESUS.

  25. Jonah 3: 4-5( Amp) And Jonah begin to enter into the city a day’s journey , and he cried, Yet forty day’s and Nineveh shall be overthrown!
( 5) So the people of Nineveh believed in God and proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth ( in penitent mourning), from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
Jeremiah 18 : 8 If that nation , against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do into them.
Jonah’s guickly obeyed the Lord’s second command to go to Nineveh . The people believed God’s message and repented in sackcloth and ashes.
The king also proclaimed a fast, They seriously and earnestly turned to God, anxious that his anger would turn away from them.
True Repentance and being Obeintance to the Lord is the key word.
    Haulula thank you Jesus.

  26. Jonah 3:2, 4-5, 8, & 10
    2) Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.

    4) And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
    5) So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.

    8) But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in his hands.

    10) And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

Jonah Preached, the people of Nineveh Believed, they Repented and turned from their evil ways, and God was MERCIFUL to them.
    WOW!! What a Revival!!

This is the kind of Revival we are Praying for in the city of Fort Worth.
When the Word is Preached, people will Believe and Repent, and God will be Merciful to them.

  27. ” For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of : but the sorrow of the world worketh death..

  28. 1 And the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the second time, saying,

There is such a consolation to know that God gives us second chances. That if we fall we shall arise. Sometimes it may be through situations, and sometimes just from our foolishness and mistakes. But God, and His grace and love towards us. He allows us to repent and make things right with him. However, like the apostle Paul said; “what shall we say then shall we remain in sin that grace may abound? God forbid!” God’s grace is not a license to sin and live a reckless life. It is now, that if we fall, the opportunity to do things right and turn from sin.

  29. 4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.

The people would have 40 Days to turn their hearts towards God. Good thing they listened and God gave Jonah favor with the people and they did turn their hearts towards God. A lot can happen in 40 Days!

How about we take this as a challenge to get involved in 40 Days of Fire2 and watch God give us favor with the people of this region and they shall turn their hearts back towards Him.

  30. “On the day Jonah entered the city, he shouted to the crowds: “Forty days from now Nineveh will be destroyed!” The people of Nineveh believed God’s message, and from the greatest to the least, they declared a fast and put on burlap to show their sorrow.”
    ‭‭Jonah‬ ‭3:4-5‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We never know who God is working on or who is ready to come back to church, so when He says Go, don’t let pride or fear stop you from doing His will. The man of God spoke and the people responded. Jonah didn’t know how it was going to turn out but He trusted God and went and did the work

  31. “When God saw what they had done and how they had put a stop to their evil ways, he changed his mind and did not carry out the destruction he had threatened.”
    ‭‭Jonah‬ ‭3:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Repentance is very important, it’s what we do in order to ask the Lord for forgivenness of our sins, and to be renewed in him. As we pray for our city, let us also go out there with faith and wisdom of the Lord, showing them and preaching the word of God to them. Show them the truth, tell them how the Lord saved you and how he can do it for them. Teach them repentance. Let them know that even in there darkest, with God there is victory, how the Lord can heal them, and save them from the fear and pain they’ve been suffering in.

  32. Jonah was worried that in forty days Nineveh would be taken over. The people of Nineveh knew they needed to repent to get favor from God. They put on sack cloth and fasted. God saw that they had changed and things were made right with God. Our Lord is a loving and forgiving God as we should do right in His eyes.
Thank you Jesus for this day.

  33. 5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.

The people of Nineveh trusted in God, and by showing this they did a fast as a sacrifice. Forty days of fire is coming up really soon, and I hope that we are sacrificing something that’s worth it! I pray tonight that we put our faith, and trust in Him and He will guide us in the right path!

  34. “When the king of Nineveh heard what Jonah was saying, he stepped down from his throne and took off his royal robes. He dressed himself in burlap and sat on a heap of ashes.”
    ‭‭Jonah‬ ‭3:6‬ ‭NLT

The king humble himself to God. Sometimes we make us king in our own reality, but for God to move on us we need to take off our robes and become servants of his kingdom.

  35. “So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days’ journey.”
    ‭‭Jonah‬ ‭3:3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Thankful that god is a god of second chances and never gives up on us. Jonah was asked again to and he obeyed this time. God will always be there for us even when we do not want to listen he sits and waits patiently for us to return back to him. He doesn’t change up the way he thinks about us. He unconditionally love us.

  36. 10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

    Faith without works is dead…

  37. ““Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh, and deliver the message I have given you.” This time Jonah obeyed the Lord’s command and went to Nineveh, a city so large that it took three days to see it all.”
    Jonah 3:2-3 NLT

We got to reach this city that God has given us because there are people that are walking to the lake of fire. Let us make His gospel known to every person’s and let arise with boldness and share His word in our city so that people will repent of their sin and worship God.

  38. Jonah 3:9-10
[9]Who can tell? Perhaps even yet God will change his mind and hold back his fierce anger from destroying us.”
[10]When God saw what they had done and how they had put a stop to their evil ways, he changed his mind and did not carry out the destruction he had threatened.

    Chronicles 7:14
[14]Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.

  39. Repentance saved them. The people repented, and it made God repent. There was a unified repentance that saved all the people of the town!

Unity in repentance is what is going to fuel the EECU al at POFW!

  40. This chapter gives you a good look at the power of true repentance. Repentance is a gift given by God himself to an imperfect people who other wise would not make the cut. When real repentance comes, God takes notice. His heart is that we would repent and not perish. God is not willing that any should perish. Repentance is the only way to fulfill Gods will in our lives. Keeping a soft heart that can be corrected and an open line of communication with your spiritual council will allow repentance to become a normal part of your life.

  41. 5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
6 For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.

I have heard in conversation from people at work that they do not feel that America as a nation could turn around and repent and do as Jesus would want. Rather instead continue to spiral more into sin. I’ve heard America be compared to Sodom & Gomorrah, however, I think it should rather be compared to Nineveh! Turning around into a completely different nation in spite of the previous mindsets. It can happen just as it did in Nineveh!!

  42. 10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

Someones whole world could change when they just start doing the right thing. When you make up in your heart that you wan too start pleasing God and not man guess who knows that first…thats right God does. Before you know wit the whole atmosphere changes around you and its because you’ve let go of your will and let his will start happening.
