Acts Chapter 17 – FIRE2 – 17/40

Day 17:  Acts Ch.17. Paul stops in Athens, studies his audience’s culture, and then begins to reason with the Greek  philosophers about the One True God. Pray for God’s guidance to understand today’s culture and as well as how we might more effectively share what God has done in our lives.

Acts 17

Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews:

And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.

And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.

But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.

And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;

Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.

And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things.

And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the other, they let them go.

10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.

11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

12 Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.

13 But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached of Paul at Berea, they came thither also, and stirred up the people.

14 And then immediately the brethren sent away Paul to go as it were to the sea: but Silas and Timotheus abode there still.

15 And they that conducted Paul brought him unto Athens: and receiving a commandment unto Silas and Timotheus for to come to him with all speed, they departed.

16 Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.

17 Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.

18 Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection.

19 And they took him, and brought him unto Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine, whereof thou speakest, is?

20 For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean.

21 (For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.)

22 Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars’ hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.

23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, To The Unknown God. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.

24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

25 Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:

28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.

30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

32 And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.

33 So Paul departed from among them.

34 Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.

  1. “Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭17:16‬ ‭KJV

    As a church we look around our region and see the same here. This is what keeps us moving across our city to reach for souls. Pail went through so much and never stopped preaching the gospel. Truth and righteousness will prevail in our region no matter what comes against us. The love and mercy that JESUS CHRIST put in us is what we have to share the only doctrine we have.

    “ “if my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
    ‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭7:14‬ ‭KJV

    Righteousness [moral and spiritual integrity and virtuous character] exalts a nation, But sin is a disgrace to any people.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭14:34‬ ‭AMP‬‬

  2. 19 And they took him, and brought him unto Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine, whereof thou speakest, is?

    20 For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean.

    Well since you ask.

    24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

    25 Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

    26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

    Standing in the midst of the court, Paul delivered what has come to be known as the Mars Hill address. It must be remembered in studying this address that he was speaking to Gentiles, not Jews. They did not have a background in the OT, so he had to find some subject of common interest with which to begin. He began with the observation Which to begin. He began with the observation that the Athenians were very religious. That Athens was indeed a religious city was well attested by the fact that it was reputed to have more idols in it than men!

    ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭6:11‬
    “And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”

  3. Verse 30 AMP “Therefore God overlooked and disregarded the former ages of ignorance; but now He commands all people everywhere to repent [that is, to change their old way of thinking, to regret their past sins, and to seek God’s purpose for their lives],”. The time and place is here and now, no more excuses as we must make a decision to LIVE-GIVE JESUS². Romans 8:28 AMP says “And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.”

  4. Acts 17:17 (KJV)
    “Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.”

    Acts 17:17, (NLT)
    “He went to the synagogue to reason with the Jews and the God-fearing Gentiles, and he spoke daily in the public square to all who happened to be there.”

    This Gospel is not just for those in the church. It is for everyone.
    This Gospel needs to be preached in the church, as well as, outside the church – in the restaurant, in the store, on the street, at our jobs, at school, etc… wherever we go. And it should be shared Daily.

    LIVE JESUS – GIVE JESUS2

  5. 2 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,
    3 Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.

    When sharing the gospel or talking to someone about the truth, it’s not about whether or not we are right but whether we are speaking from a place of love and understanding. You can most definitely win a discussion and lose simultaneously. Sometimes it’s better to be in the right then to be right. We will not win people by knowing more about the Bible than they do but rather by loving those people. Jesus never argued with those who did want to listen and even instructed his disciples not to cast their pearls before swine. Our jobs as Christians is to Love The Gospel to each person. To use opportunities to teach and reach them

  6. 32. And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.

    33. So Paul departed from among them.

    Don’t put God off until later – this may be your last chance, it may never come again. Sobering thought that is hard to hear, but true.

    Romans 13:
    11. And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

    12. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

    2 Corinthians 6:2
    (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

    2 Corinthians 6:2

  8. 16 Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.

    I wonder if anyone is stirred up today for the souls around them? This world is hungry and desperate for truth – we must feed it to them and lead them to Jesus!

    Get stirred up today then go Live and Give Jesus to the lost!

  9. Acts 17: 16-17 ( Paul alone at Athens)
    16) Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.
    (17) Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market place, daily with them that met with him.
    Ever where Paul when he shared the gospel.
    Go and share the gospel everyone to everyone you come across too.
    It not just the church , It’s for Everyone.
    We can’t make it without him !
    Live Jesus- Give Jesus 2
    We must be saved.

  10. 16 Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.

    Paul seen a city given to idolatry.
    What did Paul do ?
    He set out to reach and teach.
    His spirit was stirred . He could not just sit there and do nothing.
    As Paul began to preach Jesus Christ there were those who listened intently to what he was proclaiming. Take a look again what he does

    17 Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.

    He doesn’t just begin preaching the gospel of Jesus but he explains his reason for bringing truth to them

    As I read this morning I could see the faces of people who worship but have no idea the true message of Jesus Christ. Paul explains to them what needs to be changed and shares Jesus Christ. There are truly sincere people who are just waiting to hear the gospel . Yes we will run into those who will oppose the Gospel but we cannot allow opposition to stop us.
    Paul gives them truth and shares how close a known God truly was to them . They had been serving an unknown god and Paul introduced them to his known God Jesus Christ . I am sure he was continually in his own mind replaying his own conversion. He disputes and brings to their attention there truly was a God they could know and gives instructions to repent . Not only that he also declares The day of the coming of Jesus Christ and why repentance is necessary . Again more reasons for us to know why we believe what we believe. There is someone waiting to be led into truth to know who God truly is. Just open the word and read it to them share what God has and is doing fir you and others . Don’t be afraid of rejection sow the seed and allow God to do the rest .

    2 And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.

    33 So Paul departed from among them.

    34 Howbeit certain men clave unto him,

    Just Live Jesus
    Just Give Jesus

    Simply use the Instruction Book and ask God to mead you to a Mars Hill . You can do this .

  11. 23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, To The Unknown God. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.

    24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

    25 Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

    If you are going to have an altar, I feel you should at least know who it is you are praying to. It seems this world we are living in has a lot of idols but no real God. Some may say their job is their God or their success. They may even say that money is their god. I want to tell the world that everything except Jesus Christ is an idol and even man you turn into an idol or false god.

    We have to adhere to Deuteronomy 6:4 hear o Israel the Lord our God is one Lord. There is one lord, one faith, one baptism. His name is Jesus Christ and this is who we need to be setting our altars up to. No other name under heaven given unto man whereby we must be saved. We have to remember that without an altar we will not have any sacrifice. It’s time to make room for the power of Jesus Christ and lose everything else and make heaven an eternal reward. It’s time to live give Jesus so we may reap the harvest of this end time outpouring of the Holy Ghost. We have to be prepared.

  12. Preach it Bro. Parker! I so agree. We worship all kinds of things and God should be #1! LiveJesusGiveJesus2! I love POFW

  13. 28 fort in him we live and move and have our being
    As certain also of your on norms have said, for we are also his offspring.

    Hallelujah 🙌🙌 thank you Jesus.hallelujah 🙌
    Blessed be the name of the Lord Jesus.
    I am thankful for this day, for waking up one more day,
    I am thankful for he cares, and his faithfulness.
    In him I breath, I am not my own, to him I belong.
    Hallelujah
    Thankful
    Gracias Señor.
    Commit your way to the lord
    Trust in him, and he will do.

  14. 26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

  15. 16 Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.

    ACTS 17:17 AMP “So he had discussions in the synagogue with the Jews and the God-fearing Gentiles, and in the market place day after day with any who happened to be there.”
    ‭‭
    We can not be complacent when we see people worshiping idols. We must open our mouths and tell them the truth. That there is ONE TRUE GOD. And his name is JESUS !

  16. 2 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

    “Where’s that in the Bible”

    Many people will question why we live the lifestyle we do, we do not have to argue, we just need to show them the scriptures and let them speak for us!

  17. 10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.
    11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

    This describes how we should receive the word of God. Pastor always says ‘Where’s that in the Bible?’ We must be rooted and grounded in the word by reading it for ourselves and hearing it preached in our church, then we something strange comes along, we are prepared for that because we have hid the word of God in our hearts. There is no new doctrine!

  18. iLove the Kingdom
    Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few. 13 But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached of Paul at Berea, they came thither also, and stirred up the people.

    Everybody doesn’t want revival. This shows us back then as well as now that revival is alive and well but always comes with it’s challenges.

  19. “His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him—though he is not far from any one of us. For in him we live and move and exist. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’ And since this is true, we shouldn’t think of God as an idol designed by craftsmen from gold or silver or stone. “God overlooked people’s ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now he commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to him.
    Acts of the Apostles 17:27‭-‬30 NLT

    I felt my way toward Him to find Him. Looking back, He was always reaching for me. I was too scared to grab hold. I was scared to leave the only thing I knew. My prayer today is those that are looking, reaching, feeling would earnestly grab hold. That the fear of leaving their more worldly desires would be overcome by a deeper desire and hunger for more of the God I serve. I speak thirst so strong that only the Lord can quench. Jesus name.

  20. Acts 17:29,30 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device. And the times of this ignorance God winked at ; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, and that he hath raised him from the dead.

    Luke 24:47,48 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And you are witnesses of these things.

    We must reach our City with the Gospel.
    We must LIVE JESUS and GIVE JESUS more than ever in these last days.

    Salvation
    Acts 2:38,39

  21. 23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, To The Unknown God. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.
    24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
    25 Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;
    26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
    27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:
    28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

    We must reach the lost and teach them the truth and the way to heaven. For without God we are nothing and can’t do anything. Without God we are lost, I pray today that God would take the scales off of our eyes and see that the world we live in needs Jesus.

  22. Acts of the Apostles 17:16
    While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was deeply troubled by all the idols he saw everywhere in the city.

    We need to pray boldly for our city

  23. “Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭17:16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    Paul had a burden for Athens. He couldn’t sit idly by knowing their were souls who didn’t know Jesus. I pray we have that burden for Fort Worth. There are millions of souls in this county who are hungry and it is our service to show them Jesus!

  24. LIVE – GIVE JESUS2
    LIVE JESUS

    28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

    In HIM.

    Who? JESUS

    3 Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.

    In HIM (JESUS) we LIVE. To LIVE JESUS we must KNOW JESUS. Who HE is, that HE is GOD in flesh, creator of the heavens and the earth.

    23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, To The Unknown God. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.
    24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

    When we LIVE JESUS we MOVE in HIM, not our own will, we Have our being or EXIST in HIM, we are HIS offspring or 2 (square).

    Colossians 1:17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

    CONSIST – 921. synistaoœ; or (strengthened) to set together, i.e. (by implication) to introduce (favorably), or (figuratively) to exhibit; intransitively, to stand near, or (figuratively) to constitute: — approve, commend, consist, make, stand (with).

    All things are by HIM set together.

    LIVE JESUS and all we do will be for HIM.

  25. “As was Paul’s custom, he went to the synagogue service, and for three Sabbaths in a row he used the Scriptures to reason with the people. He explained the prophecies and proved that the Messiah must suffer and rise from the dead. He said, “This Jesus I’m telling you about is the Messiah.””
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭17:2-3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

    Paul was very well versed in the Word. If we are to Be Church we must spend our time in His Word. I’m thankful for the Blog. It’s a great start to knowing His Word. We also need to dig deeper. And ask God for more understanding and boldness to tell others of His Word.

  26. “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭17:11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    This is exactly what I believe. If a person truly studies the Scriptures with an open mind and heart to receive the Truth, God will reveal that Truth to you.

  27. AMP – 22 So Paul, standing in the center of the Areopagus, said: “Men of Athens, I observe [with every turn I make throughout the city] that you are very religious and devout in all respects. 23 Now as I was going along and carefully looking at your objects of worship, I came to an altar with this inscription: ‘TO AN [d]UNKNOWN GOD.’ Therefore what you already worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you. 24 The God who created the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands; 25 nor is He [e]served by human hands, as though He needed anything, because it is He who gives to all [people] life and breath and all things. 26 And He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their lands and territories. 27 This was so that they would seek God, if perhaps they might grasp for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us.

    Paul was able to use things that he saw as a conversation starter to be able to speak with the people who was in the crowd. Becoming a “personalizer” of people will open doors for us to be able to share the gospel with those we don’t know. Taking note of things about them, things they say, or that they are passionate about will help us it turn the conversation around to introduce to them to Jesus, or to share our testimony.

  28. Acts Chapter 17

    2 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,
    3 Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.
    4 And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.

    This is the way Paul was following Jesus example. Jesus came to the Jews first in his ministry and before he was crucified he was going to the non Jews.
    Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
    Rom 2:10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:
    Yet the Jews stirred up the people and the Greeks were ready to listen. Those that were Jews believed yet a small number and many Greeks. We are now coming back in time that the Gospel will be preached to the Jews again and many will come. That is why we have a Bible college in Jerusalem. We will have opposition. Do not be afraid because Jesus has overcome the world. Let us press in to the high calling of the Lord.
    Phl 3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
    Heb 3:1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; Amen and Amen

  29. 24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

    25 Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

    26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

    We should be like Paul, continually spreading the Word and Plan of Salvation, without ceasing! We have got to but willing to reach the lost at any cost!

  30. He walked down from the temple and saw them washing up and other gods said you have And the next day he worship other gods.

  31. It doesn’t matter which country you’re in it’s all the same. is it made out of Earth, does it have grass? Of course it does. who do you think made it? so I want to ask you this, do you believe that from anywhere there’s a God? Belief is not a superstition, it has been thought that way for hundreds of years. But, it’s more or less just a devotion to something much more pure.

  32. “For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭17:28‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    It’s because of Jesus that we live move and have our being. Thank you Jesus for all that you have done in our lives and dying on the cross for our sins. He loves us so much that he did such a thing. We should be like Jesus when it comes to winning souls. We should be devoted to winning souls into the kingdom because god loves everyone. Jesus loves everyone and wants to see everyone saved so we should have the same attitude of wanting to see everyone saved. Just like that children’s song “Jesus loves the little children” says he loves us all no matter what color we are all precious in his sight. We are his offspring this is why it is important for us to continually be disciples and win souls to his kingdom because he loves us all no matter what.

  33. 23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, To The Unknown God. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.

    Sometimes when we have a challenge when witnessing, we may need to use more than the precepts of our conviction. It can be helpful to grasp the perspectives of other religious sects, so we can more effective reason with those that we wittness to about the Lord, and his plan of salvation.

  34. 30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

    31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

    This verse came to my mind few days ago. I was thinking that we have to start preaching to people this message not like a new message, but the one that is had preached since the prophets. To repent and go back to God because we have to give account to the only One. We are living right now in the Valley of decisions. Choose who to serve! The message in Revelations said worship the One to made the heavens and the earth!

  35. “While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was deeply troubled by all the idols he saw everywhere in the city.”
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭17:16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

    Are we concerned about the idols in world? As Christian we must destroy the idols in our lives so we may put God first. Help destroy other peoples idols in there lives and show them to the Living God.

  36. “For in him we live and move and exist. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’”
    Acts of the Apostles 17:28 NLT

    If God is not in us we are lost and we can do nothing without Him. We need the Spirit of God living inside of us every day in our life. To know His word to speak it with authority in everything we do. Let be drawn to the presence of the Lord and be obedient to His will.

  37. Acts 17

    22 Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: “People of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious.

    23 For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship-and this is what I am going to proclaim to you.

    So then, about eating food sacrificed to idols: We know that ” An idol is nothing at all in the world ” and that “There is no God but one. 1 Corinthians 8:4

    Our one true God is Jesus Christ. Worshipping a dead item built by man, is so WRONG! This is why we need to reach the lost, and show them the truth.

  38. 6 And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;

    If we focus on God, we have the ability to change the world. The enemy knows what will happen when the people of God join together. We are stronger when we work as one. Let us lay aside the things that hinder us, so that we can go forth strong and mighty.

  39. 6 And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;

    7 Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.

  40. 3 Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.

  41. “When they heard Paul speak about the resurrection of the dead, some laughed in contempt, but others said, “We want to hear more about this later.””
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭17:32‬ ‭NLT‬‬

    There will be a lot of different people in a crowd as we are teaching them the word of God, yes there will be many not listening but in those crowds there will be many not speaking up but they will be wanting to hear more of the Lord. We shouldn’t care about what people think of us or say about us as we’re doing the work of the Lord. I pray tonight that we only think about what the Lord thinks of us and not what the world thinks. And I pray we continue his work and preach his word for there will be many seeking after his word and we can help guide them.

  42. Our God can’t be put in a box.

    Our chat be captured in a picture.

    Our God can’t be settled in a church within 4 walls.

    Our God is big. He omnipresent- everywhere all at once.

    “God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭17:24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  43. 6 And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;

    There comes a day that even the sinners will recognize that the church is center stage. A day that the church’s influence goes beyond the four walls or their neighborhood to turning the world upside down. There comes a day that revival and harvest will be the talk of the town.

  44. 32 And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.

    33 So Paul departed from among them.

    34 Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.

    You never know who God will reach and what effect the word will have. One thing is true and for sure, it will not return void. Just send the message, release the seed and allow God to work in the hearts of people.

  45. 1 Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews:
    2 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,
    3 Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.

    So, what are we known for? Paul was known for going unto Jews and the synagogues preaching. Maybe being long winded? Maybe it was what he was preaching, that he was known for. But what are we known for, foul mouths? Bad at repaying debts? Always late? Liars? Untrustworthy? Or is it prayer warriors? Worshipers? Givers? Examples of Christ?

  46. 32When they heard Paul speak about the resurrection of the dead, some laughed in contempt, but others said, “We want to hear more about this later.”

    Yes, we’ll be mocked for believing that Jesus rose from the dead. The unrighteous don’t believe, or don’t feel God, or haven’t experienced a miracle. Until something unusual happens that they can’t explain, they will start believing there is a God. We have to tell them about your testimony, and teach them the Word.

  47. 11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
    12 Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.

    I want this to be said of us when minister’s come to visit, “. . . in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, . . . also of honourable women which. . .” For this to be said we have to actually do that though and in fact receive word from the pulpit and blog faithfully and daily.

  48. Acts 17:29-30

    Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device. And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

    There is nothing more important than Jesus.
    There is nothing more important than sharing this gospel. There’s so many people lost, backslid, and bound by sin and we have the answer. We must sanctify them, the Bible says to sanctify them with truth….thy word is thy truth!

  49. “And they that conducted Paul brought him unto Athens: and receiving a commandment unto Silas and Timothy for to come to him with all speed, they departed.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭17:15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    Paul had his own Underground Railroad of sorts to get him from place to place without dying. There was only one being movesd, sometimes three
