Isaiah 21

The burden of the desert of the sea. As whirlwinds in the south pass through; so it cometh from the desert, from a terrible land.

A grievous vision is declared unto me; the treacherous dealer dealeth treacherously, and the spoiler spoileth. Go up, O Elam: besiege, O Media; all the sighing thereof have I made to cease.

Therefore are my loins filled with pain: pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman that travaileth: I was bowed down at the hearing of it; I was dismayed at the seeing of it.

My heart panted, fearfulness affrighted me: the night of my pleasure hath he turned into fear unto me.

Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and anoint the shield.

For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth.

And he saw a chariot with a couple of horsemen, a chariot of asses, and a chariot of camels; and he hearkened diligently with much heed:

And he cried, A lion: My lord, I stand continually upon the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my ward whole nights:

And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.

10 O my threshing, and the corn of my floor: that which I have heard of the Lordof hosts, the God of Israel, have I declared unto you.

11 The burden of Dumah. He calleth to me out of Seir, Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?

12 The watchman said, The morning cometh, and also the night: if ye will enquire, enquire ye: return, come.

13 The burden upon Arabia. In the forest in Arabia shall ye lodge, O ye travelling companies of Dedanim.

14 The inhabitants of the land of Tema brought water to him that was thirsty, they prevented with their bread him that fled.

15 For they fled from the swords, from the drawn sword, and from the bent bow, and from the grievousness of war.

16 For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Within a year, according to the years of an hireling, and all the glory of Kedar shall fail:

17 And the residue of the number of archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, shall be diminished: for the LordGod of Israel hath spoken it.

    Matthew 25:13
Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. KJV

    Watch ye, therefore
    You know not the day
    When the Lord shall
    Call your soul away
    If ye labor
    Striving for the right
    You shall wear
    A robe and crown

    Just as soon as
    My feet strike Zion
    Gonna lay down
    My heavy burdens
Put on my robe in glory
Shout and tell ‘em my story
Soon as my eyes see Jesus
    Gonna tell him all
    About my troubles
Put on my robe in glory
Shout and tell ‘em my story.
I shall wear a robe and crown

  2. 6 For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth.

God only gives us what we can handle, which means there is usually a lot more going on than what he is allowing us to see or envisioning. But due to his grace and mercy he is lightning the load to what we have the capability of taking on. As grievous as this vision was for Isaiah can you only picture how much more so was it for God in dealing with this burden of his people who have turned from him. After everything that he has done and the mercy and the grace that he has favored them how grievous must it have been dealing with being rejected by the very people He took aside from wickedness and rescued

16 For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Within a year, according to the years of an hireling, and all the glory of Kedar shall fail:

One thing for sure, Isaiah the prophet’s words might be hard to follow and be hard to understand but they will surely come to pass. Judgement is not fun and is painful, but it is the only thing that will keep this world in order

  4. LIVE – GIVE JESUS
    THE WATCHMEN

6 For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth.

THE WATCHMEN is one who looks out for, watches closely, keeps watch or even like a spy. THE WATCHMEN has a responsibility to watch and warn. THE WATCHMEN that sees and says nothing, allows peril to come upon his people.

One of the greatest responsibilities and honors of The Kingdom of GOD is when JESUS entrusts us to WATCH over HIS Kingdom. Every delegated leader has this responsibility, As Apostolic believers we are called to watch out for and over what belongs to JESUS. From territory to possessions and most importantly people.

People are the currency of The Kingdom of GOD. JESUS is calling for WATCHMEN to rise today and be set over a field, city, people or treasure.

JESUS has placed a WATCHMEN called a Pastor over each of us and we must let him declare what he seeth.

  5. Isaiah 21:4,15
[4]My mind reels and my heart races.  I longed for evening to come, but now I am terrified of the dark.
[15]They have fled from the sword, from the drawn sword, from the bent bow and the terrors of battle.

    Psalms 91:1-2,4-5
[1]Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
[2]This I declare about the lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.
[4]He will cover you with his feathers.  He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
[5]Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day.

  6. 2 I see a terrifying vision: I see the betrayer betraying, the destroyer destroying.

Yes, we see the terrifying things daily. The bad news, weather, battles and disobedience you hear about everyday. The vision is not good. But for the righteous, we have a vision of good. Knowing God is with you, the blessing you’ll receive, the comfort, the healings, etc.

  7. Then the watchman called out, “Day after day I have stood on the watchtower, my Lord. Night after night I have remained at my post.
    Isaiah 21:8 NLT

The previous verse says the watchman should be fully alert. There’s not a minute we can let pass where our guard isn’t up. In our world today, attacks hit from every which way, and in ways we wouldn’t expect. We need to live in a lifestyle of prayer and praise, we need the Word deep in our hearts, so that any attack we are able to identify and move past without loss.

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
    Ephesians 6:10 KJV

  8. Isaiah 21
Tell him to keep his ear to the ground,
    note every whisper, every rumor.”
    Just then, the lookout shouted,
    “I’m at my post, Master,
Sticking to my post day after day
    and all through the night!
    I watched them come,

Note every whisper every rumor .
It is time we the chirch rise above the tactics of the enemy keeping watch for every little fox that could spoil the vines . We are responsible for the new babes in Christ and we must keep a close watch on self and those we are leading .
God help us to stay alert in Jesus Name !

  9. “Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and anoint the shield.”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭21:5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    Anoint The Shield!!
This reminded me of putting on the Whole Armor of God- Shield of Faith! Anointing is equal to the Holy Ghost! We must be filled with the Holy Ghost. Our faith must be covered with His Anointing.

  10. The vision that Isaiah is seeing, causes great burden in his life for the destruction that he witnesses in cities to come, the destruction of Babylon and at this point there is nothing that can be done, even though he travails with great pain.

We must not let our travail be in vain. We are travailing until Christ is formed in our new babes and they are strong enough to fight for themselves. We must travail for our city, our region that God has placed us in. Just Babylon, our world desperately needs a Savior. We have the good news of that Savior, but they are not going to know that if we don’t share that.

  11. “O my people, threshed and winnowed, I have told you everything the Lord of Heaven’s Armies has said, everything the God of Israel has told me.”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭21:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The violent threshing of grain portrayed Babylon’s oppression of Israel, and the resultant grain was Israel’s deliverance by God. The concise saying offered God’s people hope.

God is the One who separates the wheat from the chaff. Isaiah is expressing the fact that he has warned them exactly as the LORD has given him instruction.

  12. Isaiah 21:12 The watchman said, The morning cometh, and also the night: if ye will enquire enquire ye: return, come.

Turn from your sins ; come back to God, and show respect for him and his declarations

Then come and you will be accepted.

    Repent and be ready!

  13. 4 My heart panted, fearfulness affrighted me: the night of my pleasure hath he turned into fear unto me.

When the Lord inflicts judgement, it will not be as easy as going to court to be declared guilty. The judgement of the Lord is something to be greatly feared.

  14. I cannot imagine the burden that Isaiah is going through with these visions and prophesying to these people…. We only assume what a Man of God’s walk is like but no one truly knows the burden. Let’s keep our Mighty Men and Women of God covered in prayer.

  15. vs 11-12
Dumah refers to Edom which was south of Moab.Seir is another name for the same area where the descendants of Esau settled. Here Edom is pictured as hiding in Seir wondering it is safe to come out. Isaiah is called a watchman and warns them of impending judgment unless return.

  16. 3 Therefore are my loins filled with pain: pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman that travaileth: I was bowed down at the hearing of it; I was dismayed at the seeing of it.

We must travail like a woman with labor pains for the lost we do not know when the Lord will come back. We must be ready and be in prayer for the church.

  17. Isaiah 21:5 (KJV)
“Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and anoint the shield.”
    Isaiah 21:5 (AMP)
“They set the table (for the doomed banquet), they spread out the cloth, they eat, they drink; “Rise up, captains (of Belshazzar’s court), oil your shields (for battle, for your enemy is at the gates)!”

One commentary said, “Anoint the shield is prepare for battle.”
Shields were instruments of defense prepared to ward off the spears and arrows of an enemy in battle. They were usually made of a rim of brass or wood, and over this was drawn a covering of the skin of an ox or other animal in the manner of a drum-head. It was occasionally necessary to rub it over with oil lest it should become hard, and crack, or lest is should become so rigid that an arrow or a sword would easily break through it.

Ephesians 6:16 says, “Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.”
“Anoint Your Shield – the Shield of Faith”
God has given to each and everyone of us a measure of Faith (the Shield of Faith). We must keep our Shield of Faith Oiled EVERYDAY with the Holy Ghost, so that it doesn’t become hard, cracked, or rigid. Our Shield of Faith is what we use to quench (put out, extinguish) all the fiery darts of the wicked that come at us. Our Shield of Faith is what protects us in battle against the enemy.

So today, Oil your Shield and Prepare for Battle!!
“For we wrestle (fight/battle) not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Eph. 6:12)

  18. Isaiah Chapter 21

5 Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and anoint the shield.

A year ago Jesus asked me a question and it was why are their so many believers with their shields down? The word is clear see Ephesians 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. and verse 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

    verse 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

We have to many wounded brothers and sisters bleeding and in pain because they are not in uniform. see Ephesians 6:10-18

Even in the verse that was copied from Isaiah Chapter 21:5 it seems they on watch towers did not have their shields on but was polishing them which is a good thing but not on duty.

What are we to do in Verse 18 and what is the word that has been declared? What has our pastor been saying often? We are to pray in the Spirit more than we are now. We must be students of the word. That is why the blog is their for us . Prayer is not just before the services.

How often should we pray? The answer is always and (keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints watching there unto with all perseverance and supplication for the saints). ESV Version

How may I pray when I am sleeping Start you sleep time in the word and ending in praise and prayer and keep in that attitude until you fall asleep.
Your spirit never sleeps. I may wake up in the morning praying in tongues even though I am not mouthing the words or I am singing from my spirit until I join
with my mouth. Because I know the words of the song that the spirit is singing and I join in. May this day be a day of discovery and keep your armor on in Jesus name.

  19. “The Master told me, “Go, post a lookout. Have him report whatever he spots. When he sees horses and wagons in battle formation, lines of donkeys and columns of camels, Tell him to keep his ear to the ground, note every whisper, every rumor.” Just then, the lookout shouted, “I’m at my post, Master, Sticking to my post day after day and all through the night! I watched them come, the horses and wagons in battle formation. I heard them call out the war news in headlines: ‘Babylon fallen! Fallen! And all its precious god-idols smashed to pieces on the ground.’””
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭21:6-9‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Day in and day out, the enemy will try to cause you to fall. We must keep our eyes and ears opened and “stick to our post” of prayer and bible reading. Give the enemy no opportunity to slip in.

  20. 10 O my threshing, and the corn of my floor: that which I have heard of the Lordof hosts, the God of Israel, have I declared unto you.

We can declare the name of the Lord. He is our strength and our refuge. There is something about declaring the name of Jesus. We can find hope, peace and joy in him. I am thankful for a God who cares.

  21. 6 For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth.

7 And he saw a chariot with a couple of horsemen, a chariot of asses, and a chariot of camels; and he hearkened diligently with much heed:

8 And he cried, A lion: My lord, I stand continually upon the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my ward whole nights:

There are many that God hath called to watchmen over the church. But there are those that have been ordained by God to have authority to speak of what they see in the lives of those they are over.

In the military when a platoon of marines were going through the villages of Iraq and Afghanistan, they always had an over watch for protection because the overwatch could see the dangers that the marines could not see immediately. Just like our shepherd or pastor is the over watch for us each and every day. So when God demands that he speaks of what he sees, we should not get a haughty spirit because he is watching and trying to save our souls from an eternal hell. We have to be obedient to the leaders over us and submitted to the authority that God has placed over us.

  22. Verses 6-8 MSG “The Master told me, “Go, post a lookout. Have him report whatever he spots. When he sees horses and wagons in battle formation, lines of donkeys and columns of camels, Tell him to keep his ear to the ground, note every whisper, every rumor.” Just then, the lookout shouted, “I’m at my post, Master, Sticking to my post day after day and all through the night!” Pastor was sent to the city of his calling and he is our watchman. He reports whatever he spots/sees, always backing it up with The Word (scripture). We have to be alert and at our post day after day and all through the night, always ready for whatever comes our way as we heed the warnings of our watchman. LIVE-GIVE JESUS²

  23. My heart panted, fearfulness affrighted me: the night of my pleasure hath he turned into fear unto me.

5 Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and anoint the shield.

9 And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.

10 O my threshing, and the corn of my floor: that which I have heard of the Lordof hosts, the God of Israel, have I declared unto you.
What A Mighty God We Serve!! He will fight our battles when they arise.

  24. 5 Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and anoint the shield.

In times of old the shields thought of were those covered with leather, which was oiled, partly to protect it from wet, partly to make the stroke of the sword glide off from it.

The men would have to make sure the shield were not dried out to make sure they were ready for a battle. The same is with our Faith the shield of faith. No we don’t carry a physical shield but a spiritual shield. We must daily oil our shield of faith allow God to pour his holy oil on our faith that way we will stand in the battle

  25. 8. Then the watchman[b] called out,
“Day after day I have stood on the watchtower, my lord.
Night after night I have remained at my post. Isaiah 21:8 NLT

How important it is to be at your post. Your position matters. Most importantly you matter. Only you can do what you are supposed to do. May we be faithful in the small things that the Lord may put us over big ones. Show the Lord you are found faithful and can be trusted with your post. He does not forget. Your faithfulness can put you over greater.

  26. 9 And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.

All false gods, idols and worldly things will fall when Jesus returns.

  27. Anoint the shield

5 Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and anoint the shield.

Being ready for battle takes serious preparation. Without a shield it is all but a suicide mission. If our shield is faith the how do we anoint it or prepare it? Building and preparing your faith takes two main ingredients, the Holy Ghost and opportunity. We must activate the Holy Ghost when the opportunity arises and we will anoint our shield each time. No one can anoint your shield for you. It must be your faith that increases.

  28. 6 For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth.

We must be ready to see great and mighty things in our church. We have to expect the unexpected, and see the unseen. Anything is possible in Gods eyes. We must have full faith and trust in Him though. I pray tonight that we are all trusting the process and expecting more than we could ever imagine!

  29. 17 And the residue of the number of archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, shall be diminished: for the LordGod of Israel hath spoken it.

  30. “O my people, threshed and winnowed, I have told you everything the Lord of Heaven’s Armies has said, everything the God of Israel has told me.”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭21:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We must be prepared for when the day comes we need to know the word of God by heart. And know the voice of God for when he commands us to speak we do as he says. I pray that we realize God is the only true way, and that we can put all our faith in trust in the Lord. Let us understand to never doubt the Lord for he will never fail you, and I pray we stand tall and strong for the Lord and his word when the day comes.

  31. “Then the watchman called out, “Day after day I have stood on the watchtower, my Lord. Night after night I have remained at my post.”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭21:8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Your position in the church matters. Whether it is opening the doors at the front of the church , singing on the praise team or cleaning the windows. Your post matters and you should do it with all your might and with a humble heart. Everyone in the church plays an important role in the church. We all have a part in the body of Christ so it is important that we do our jobs to the best of our ability no matter how small it may be because when one part of the body isn’t working it effects the whole body and cause other parts in the body to have to pull the weight of the piece in the body that isn’t working. Just as this happens in the natural the same applies spiritually. When we do not play our part in the body of Christ it affects the rest of the body.

  32. “Meanwhile, the Lord said to me, “Put a watchman on the city wall. Let him shout out what he sees.”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭21:6‬ ‭NLT

This is not the time to sleep. We must be attentive and intentional in our actions. Daily revival and reaching out to the lost. When the bridegroom comes, I pray His bride is ready.

Pro 25:9  Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another:

This verse is simple y’all…. Don’t gossip about folks . Yep, the world would be a better place

  34. 6 For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth.

7 And he saw a chariot with a couple of horsemen, a chariot of asses, and a chariot of camels; and he hearkened diligently with much heed:

8 And he cried, A lion: My lord, I stand continually upon the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my ward whole nights:

9 And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.

10 O my threshing, and the corn of my floor: that which I have heard of the Lordof hosts, the God of Israel, have I declared unto you.

  35. “Then a guard said, “I have stood day and night on this watchtower, Lord. Now I see column after column of cavalry troops.” At once someone shouted, “Babylon has fallen! Every idol in the city lies broken on the ground.””
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭21:8-9‬ ‭CEV‬‬

Sometimes we feel like that guard on duty just waiting and looking to see what’s going to take place next. We know it’s coming, we can feel it, experiences past tell us it’s bound to happen yet we question the tiniest of events. “Was that it? Is that what God was talking about doing? However, if you just keep standing guard and keep watching when whatever is supposed to take place finally happens you’ll know for certain! The fall of Babylon was shown by the falling of its idols all around the city, there was no doubt they had finally met their match. What idols need to come down in your own life order for you to shout with victory at the end of your watch?

  36. 10 O my threshing, and the corn of my floor: that which I have heard of the Lordof hosts, the God of Israel, have I declared unto you.
11 The burden of Dumah. He calleth to me out of Seir, Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?
12 The watchman said, The morning cometh, and also the night: if ye will enquire, enquire ye: return, come.

Do you have a burden calling you?? “. . . burden of Dumah. He calleth to me out of Seir, Watchman, what of the night?”” The burden that pushes you to do more and go the extra mile! The burden that wakes you up in the midnight hour to pray. We don’t always know what or where it comes, or even what it’s for, but we know do know to pray and to lift it up. Carry the burden and invest.

  37. …And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭21:9‬ ‭KJV
The time of power, false ‘gods/idols’,rebellion, witchcraft, and sin has come to an end.
The enemy will never have the upper hand.
Holiness, righteousness, obedience, worship unto GOD alone, prayer, praise, and relationship does the LORD JESUS CHRIST desires of His children.

  38. “Look! They are preparing a great feast. They are spreading rugs for people to sit on. Everyone is eating and drinking. But quick! Grab your shields and prepare for battle. You are being attacked! Meanwhile, the Lord said to me, “Put a watchman on the city wall. Let him shout out what he sees. He should look for chariots drawn by pairs of horses, and for riders on donkeys and camels. Let the watchman be fully alert.” Now at last—look! Here comes a man in a chariot with a pair of horses!” Then the watchman said, “Babylon is fallen, fallen! All the idols of Babylon lie broken on the ground!””
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭21:5-7, 9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Without the watchman on the wall they wouldn’t have seen what was coming. They were all sitting on their rugs and stuff thinking everything was okay and that’s good that felt safe and trusted the watchman on the wall but instead of waiting let’s prepare let’s strengthen ourselves spiritually and be ready when the battle is coming. Thankful for the watchman on the wall today. The countless hours, days, and nights of being there when no one else was. Many are called but few actually go and do the grunt work.

  39. I believe our pastor is a chosen messenger the Lord to relay messages that the Lord has spoken to him to give to us and sometimes those messages can be warnings like the pronouncements given about Dumah and Arabia in Isaiah ch. 21. I am so thankful for Pastie Watts dedication and honestly delivering these messages to us and not altering what the Lord has spoken to him in order to gain for himself like some of the other false preachers would do. We need to hear all of God’s words, the good, the bad, and the pronouncements.

  40. “I see a terrifying vision: I see the betrayer betraying, the destroyer destroying. Go ahead, you Elamites and Medes, attack and lay siege. I will make an end to all the groaning Babylon caused. My stomach aches and burns with pain. Sharp pangs of anguish are upon me, like those of a woman in labor. I grow faint when I hear what God is planning; I am too afraid to look. My mind reels and my heart races. I longed for evening to come, but now I am terrified of the dark.”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭21:2-4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I am grateful that gives us a warnings. Sometimes he sends then through others. Sometimes he gives visions or dreams. Sometimes he speaks to us straight from the Bible. All of these warning are to benefit us, his people. No matter what the warning is, it is help. Thank you Jesus for your help!
