Jeremiah 37

And king Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.

But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the Lord, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah.

And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the Lordour God for us.

Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people: for they had not put him into prison.

Then Pharaoh’s army was come forth out of Egypt: and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they departed from Jerusalem.

Then came the word of the Lord unto the prophet Jeremiah saying,

Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to enquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.

And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire.

Thus saith the Lord; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.

10 For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.

11 And it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh’s army,

12 Then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to separate himself thence in the midst of the people.

13 And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.

14 Then said Jeremiah, It is false; I fall not away to the Chaldeans. But he hearkened not to him: so Irijah took Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.

15 Wherefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison.

16 When Jeremiah was entered into the dungeon, and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;

17 Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the Lord? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.

18 Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, What have I offended against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison?

19 Where are now your prophets which prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?

20 Therefore hear now, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.

21 Then Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread out of the bakers’ street, until all the bread in the city were spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.

  1. “Then Jeremiah the prophet received this Message from God: “I, the God of Israel, want you to give this Message to the king of Judah, who has just sent you to me to find out what he should do. Tell him, ‘Get this: Pharaoh’s army, which is on its way to help you, isn’t going to stick it out. No sooner will they get here than they’ll leave and go home to Egypt. And then the Babylonians will come back and resume their attack, capture this city and burn it to the ground. I, God, am telling you: Don’t kid yourselves, reassuring one another, “The Babylonians will leave in a few days.” I tell you, they aren’t leaving. Why, even if you defeated the entire attacking Chaldean army and all that was left were a few wounded soldiers in their tents, the wounded would still do the job and burn this city to the ground.’””

When your in trails or not, listening to God is always the first and most important thing you should do.

  2. 9 Thus saith the Lord; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.

We have the Lord on our side. Being saved will not eliminate the battle we have with the evil of this fallen world. However when we maintain a proper relationship with the Lord, we will be victorious.

Give me a blessing but I do not want to bring a sacrifice .
Too many times people want the blessings of God without a the sacrifice. I have seen God heal a d protect many people yet the finalization and the realization is they continue to seek after the world .
I can pray for people but if they choose not to obey God and even seek God their self destruction will come and judgement of God.
Oh Jeremiah pray for us but we still will reject God.
When will some turn away from the life of sin ? I pray before it is too late .

Time in time people don’t wanna listen what the Lord has to say. But as soon as they found self in trouble, they sent a request for prayer.

We see once again how the people did not listen and rejected Gods word. They wanted God on their terms not His. They failed to realize it doesn’t work that way.

    THE PERIL OF FALSE ACCUSATION

12 Then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to separate himself thence in the midst of the people.
13 And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.

    16 When Jeremiah was entered into the dungeon, and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;

The Prophet, everyone knew the Prophet, they all knew what he prophesied. The prophesy of an overthrow. Now the prophet makes attempt to escape the peril, because the people would not hear, believe or follow him.

The rejected the WORD from GOD through Jeremiah, now they reject the word of Jeremiah. Since they didn’t believe him they made up their own words for him.

We face a similar peril and fate today. When people will not hear the WORD of the LORD they make up their own to falsely accuse then they attempt to emprison and silence your voice in their life, but the TRUTH is yet the TRUTH.

The TRUTH is what separates men and THE PERIL OF FALSE ACCUSTATION is real.

Proverbs 23:23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

Regardless of THE PERIL don’t be a sell out be sold out.

  9. Jeremiah 37:17, “Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the LORD? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.”

Is There Any Word From The LORD? There Is!
All we have to do is have our Ears and our Heart Open and be ready to receive it, For God Always Has A Word For Us. We just have to Listen and Receive It.

  10. iLove the Kingdom of Jesus2

The king has called for Jeremiah to “pray” for him. This is human nature 101. People live how they want to and when you try to help them they refuse your help. Then when judgement comes, they need you to come “pray” for them. People really think ministers have a magic wand to wave over their messes. Once they are free, they enjoy the pleasures of sin again. Jeremiah wasn’t trying to play this game. He told the king that he was going down…even if it was from some defeated rag tag type men.

10 For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.

There is no escape from the judgement of the Lord.

  11. 10. For though ye hath smitten the whole Army
Of the Chaldeans that fight agains you and there
Remain but wounded men among you, yet should they rise up every men in the tent and burn this city with fire.
    ——
Acts 5:39 but if it is from God, you might not be able
To stop them, you might even be fighting against God himself!

God is always involved!!! Either to save and deliver
    Or to bring judgment….
This will be their end, and it is God who settles it.
No matter how much they might fight against
    God’s will, Gods decree.

  12. Verses 1-2 MSG “ King Zedekiah son of Josiah, a puppet king set on the throne by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon in the land of Judah, was now king in place of Jehoiachin son of Jehoiakim. But neither he nor his officials nor the people themselves paid a bit of attention to the Message God gave by Jeremiah the prophet.” Unfortunately, many are like this puppet king; letting others’ fake words and intentions influence them from hearing what God is telling them to let go of. As we see in verses 9-10 we cannot allow ourselves to be deceived or fooled into thinking you can leave any part of the enemy or that sin alive as it must be killed/buried and fully destroyed or it will come back and burn you into the ground. Choose every day to LIVE-GIVE JESUS².

  13. 2 But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the Lord, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah.

It’s always good to hear words of the Lord.. those who choose to reject the words of the Lord are really not receiving his counsel and are walking to death instead life.

    Thank You Jesus!

  14. 4 Then said Jeremiah, It is false; I fall not away to the Chaldeans. But he hearkened not to him: so Irijah took Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.

15 Wherefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison.

    16 When Jeremiah was entered into the dungeon, and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;

Truth is not popular, yet it remains the truth. The people were not spiritual, they were living completely carnal lives, so what the prophet told them, was not pleasing to their flesh, therefore they rebelled against it and took it out on the prophet. Don’t shoot the messenger, listen to the message.

  15. “That’s not true!” Jeremiah protested. “I had no intention of doing any such thing.” But Irijah wouldn’t listen, and he took Jeremiah before the officials. They were furious with Jeremiah and had him flogged and imprisoned in the house of Jonathan the secretary. Jonathan’s house had been converted into a prison.
    Jeremiah 37:14‭-‬15 NLT

Later King Zedekiah secretly requested that Jeremiah come to the palace, where the king asked him, “Do you have any messages from the Lord?” “Yes, I do!” said Jeremiah. “You will be defeated by the king of Babylon.”
    Jeremiah 37:17 NLT

Some people will hear us and some people will ignore us while others will reject it knowing that it’s true. We cannot force anybody to receive the word of god, but deep down there is a longing for truth behind the comfort of lies. Even though the king did not want to listen to Jeremiah he knew what he spoke was true and knew that he was a messenger of god. He knew that he could hear exactly what God was saying. The right people in our lives are going to listen and want to hear the word of God while others reject it. But those that reject it may come to us later and yearn for that word. Always be open to sharing the gospel no matter what state you are in

  16. 2 But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the Lord, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah.

It’s a dangerous thing to not listen to the words of the Lord. Many have failed when ignoring God’s word. He wants to lead us to victory. However, the only way we will obtain that victory is to follow the words of God. God should always be first in your life.

  17. Jeremiah 37 : 2-3 ( amp) But neither he nor his servants nor the people of the land listened to and obeyed the words of the Lord which he spoke through the prophet Jeremiah.
    (3) Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now to the Lord our God for us.
Choose everyday to listen and hear the truth,
    God will and God desires.

  18. I love pofw LIVE JESUS GIVE JESUS 2. Please hear the word of the Lord! He is our Savior our constant guiding light! Stay close to him he is our all in all!

  19. 7 Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to enquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.
8 And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire.
9 Thus saith the Lord; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.

God’s word is true even when it doesn’t say what we may want to hear! We can’t fabricate a message to suit us because it would only serve to deceive us.

  20. The living Bible
    vs(3-4)
King Zedekiah sent Jehucal and Zephaniah the priest to ask Jeremiah to pray for them
vs-4 (Jeremiah had not been imprisoned yet so he could go and come as he pleased)
Why did Zedekiah send messengers to Jeremiah? Earlier the prophet had announced the city doom. Perhaps when the Babylonians temporarily lifted their siege. Zedekiah thought God had relented. But the prophet continued his blunt and bold assertion that the Babylonians would surely attack and burn the city. In fact it was only a short time later that the Egyptian column hurried back home and the Babylonians returned to Judah.

  21. V17 Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the LORD? And Jeremiah said,There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.
v18 Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, What have I offended against thee,or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison?

HIS WORD STANDS FOREVER..the best friends we have in this earth is our preacher because he keeps the story that saved you and me alive in our memories.
If we don’t hear it preach we lose our faith.

You must be born again. All those who are born in Christ shall suffer persecution. No body is exempt .

  22. Jeremiah Chapter 37

In Chapter 36 it was written that The prophecy would be completed. See Jeremiah 37:17 Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the Lord? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.

  23. Jeremiah 37

2 But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the LORD, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah.

Well, to ignore the message of the Lord, Is SOoo stupid. If you are not tuned into God, to ignore Him, or not be in tuned to him, is a huge mistake. We must love God and be true to him.
Thank you Jesus for this day.

  24. 9 “This is what the Lord says: Do not deceive yourselves, thinking, ‘The Babylonians will surely leave us.’ They will not! 10 Even if you were to defeat the entire Babylonian[c] army that is attacking you and only wounded men were left in their tents, they would come out and burn this city down.”

Sometimes we may have things against us but we have to trust God that He knows what’s best and what we need to defeat our battles.

  25. 9 “This is what the Lord says: Do not deceive yourselves, thinking, ‘The Babylonians will surely leave us.’ They will not! 10 Even if you were to defeat the entire Babylonian[c] army that is attacking you and only wounded men were left in their tents, they would come out and burn this city down.”

Sometimes we may have things against us but we just have to trust God and know that He can tell us what we need for our battles.

  26. “This is what the Lord says: Do not fool yourselves into thinking that the Babylonians are gone for good. They aren’t!”
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭37:9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Our enemies aren’t going to stop to try and bring us down, but we know we shouldn’t fear because as long as we are continuing to do the work of the Lord, and living for him faithfully and full heartedly God will always be protecting us and raising us up in our hardest moments. We need to learn to always trust God and never doubt him, for he has never failed or broke his promise. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and obey and no enemy will win against you.

  27. 9 Thus saith the Lord; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.

Sometimes our flesh might tell us something other than the voice of God. The voice of the Lord should be the only thing that we should be listening to. This kinda brought me back to the revival with Taylor Fish and he said that sometimes we have crossroads in our life that we must face. In this case the crossroad is listening to the flesh or His voice. I pray tonight that everyone is making the right decision and listening to His voice!!!

  28. When Jeremiah had come into the vaulted cell in the dungeon and had remained there many days,
    Jeremiah 37:16 AMP

Aside from the obvious about the people of Judah in this chapter, that they would not hearken to the words of God by the prophet… this other thing that I could not get out off. This question just kept popping in my mind; what did he do wrong? What did Jeremiah do wrong? He was just minding his own business. Had been obedient to God and had delivered every word God asked him to. Even after being imprisoned many days still delivered the word that was for the the king of Judah.
Would I, you or anyone else that follow God keep the same attitude and still continue to deliver the work/word of the Lord even after being wrongfully accused and mistreated? If I’m honest with myself, I don’t know… what made this man and many others just keep on keeping on disregarding whatever might come at them?
I read it several times, and I kept going back to the same; in a sense, maybe in my flesh, I kinda got a little upset. I kept going back to the same. What did he do wrong Lord? Why? Not even fair. Those where thoughts that came to mind. Maybe this is like pastor has recently preached to us about knowing God in the fellowship of his sufferings.

Some things come to mind like the words of our Lord Jesus that say if any want come come after me let him carry his cross and follow me. He has warned us from the beginning its not going to be easy. The cross in Roman days was not something that was light, and it represented where you will crucify yourself…where you will die.

Radical faith. Is what I can call this.
The apostle Paul said; “for me to live is Christ and to die is gain”

    Revelations 12 we read this:

And they overcame and conquered him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, for they did not love their life and renounce their faith even when faced with death.
    Revelation 12:11 AMP

It’s a matter of crazier than crazy faith…it’s radical faith.

His return is soon to come. The word tells us in Luke 18:
    Shall he find faith?

I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
    Luke 18:8 KJV

With all that is going on in the world in the end will you, I, we that prophes the name of Jesus, be found Faithful standing in Faith?

  29. “But neither King Zedekiah nor his attendants nor the people who were left in the land listened to what the Lord said through Jeremiah.”
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭37:2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

‘I do what I want, when I want, and how I want, and if I want!’ Sounds to familiar. What tragedy or spiritual loss is one willing to take for a moment of pleasure (sin?) is your desire so strong that it’ll kill you? I’m not talking just about in the physical but a loss of eternal everlasting life.
Don’t play Russian Roulette with your life ever! It’s harder for you to come back home! Not that you can’t… but when?

Repentance and Obedience will bring a blessing not to you and your family… generación a generación!

  30. “But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the Lord, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah.”
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭37:2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

It’s never good to hear the voice of the lord and not take heed. When the lord speaks we must listen. It doesn’t matter how it comes or when it comes. We must listen to his voice and take heed to what he is asking us to do. Disobedience or not the way to go: obedience is better than sacrifice.

  31. “Nevertheless, King Zedekiah sent Jehucal son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah the priest, son of Maaseiah, to ask Jeremiah, “Please pray to the Lord our God for us.””
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭37:3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Even though we have the answer, there will still be some who choose not engage. Although this may frustrate us, it’s not our issue whether they engage. But we do need to make sure we give them the answer – and that is Jesus.

  32. “So King Zedekiah commanded that Jeremiah not be returned to the dungeon. Instead, he was imprisoned in the courtyard of the guard in the royal palace. The king also commanded that Jeremiah be given a loaf of fresh bread every day as long as there was any left in the city. So Jeremiah was put in the palace prison.”
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭37:21‬ ‭NLT‬‬
I learned that when you obey god and do what he tells you he will supply every need you have even when it doesn’t seem like he can as long as you put god first and decrease so he can increase god will supply your needs

  33. 20 Therefore hear now, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.

When was the last time you spoke to God in the manner?? Praying unto God and asking and begging humbly that your begging be accepted. I pray daily and ask God to except my prayers, my requests, and all the work I try to dedicate to Him. I hope you do the same. For there is like a relationship with Him. Trust me, . . . I know from experience.

  34. 9“This is what the LORD says: Do not fool yourselves into thinking that the Babylonians are gone for good. They aren’t! 10Even if you were to destroy the entire Babylonian army, leaving only a handful of wounded survivors, they would still stagger from their tents and burn this city to the ground!”

Never think that sin has left. The devil is always around waiting for the opportunity to come into your life. You’ve got to be strong against the enemy at all times. Feed yourself daily with God, and you’ll be able to withstand anything the enemy throws at you.

  35. ‘“This is what the Lord says: Do not fool yourselves into thinking that the Babylonians are gone for good. They aren’t! ‘

    Jeremiah 37:9

Seasons come and go when your enemy isnt around its really just for a season he’ll be back and you gotta be ready. You gotta be prayed up and studied up and full of the word of God. When that enemy comes back you gotta be ready to send him back to hell where he came from. I believe in you whoever you are that reads this youre victorious and Jesus has already won every battle.

  36. 17 Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the Lord? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.

Jeremiah never once changed what the Lord spoke. Even though it lead to tough times for him, He never lied or falsely prophesied what God was saying. That’s bold. Several claim they would do the same, even if meant ending up in a grungy dungeon but the truth is, it’s a hard choice. Just like the message from last week, God may ask of us a sacrifice and we have to be willing to trust His plan.

  37. Where are your prophets now who told you the king of Babylon would not attack you or this land?
    Jeremiah 37:19 NLT

Naysayers don’t ever stick around. False reports cannot stand in the presence of truth! Hallelujah!

  38. “Then Jeremiah asked the king, “What crime have I committed? What have I done against you, your attendants, or the people that I should be imprisoned like this? Where are your prophets now who told you the king of Babylon would not attack you or this land?”
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭37:18-19‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Jeremiah didn’t back down even though he was imprisoned for delivering the truth. When you stand on God’s Word it will never let you down. It is a firm foundation you stand on. His Word will not return to Him void.
