Acts 8

And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.

And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.

As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.

Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.

Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them.

And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.

For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.

And there was great joy in that city.

But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:

10 To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God.

11 And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.

12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

13 Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.

14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:

15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:

16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)

17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,

19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.

20 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.

21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.

22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.

23 For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.

24 Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me.

25 And they, when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.

26 And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.

27 And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,

28 Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.

29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.

30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?

31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.

32 The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:

33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.

34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?

35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.

40 But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Caesarea.

  1. 6 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.
7 For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.

A church that has unwavering faith will be in one accord. When a church sees many miracles and healings, we can be assured thst Christ is preached and they are in one accord.

  2. 35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

Have you heard about a man name Jesus? Just preach Jesus.

    A.L.M.A.S.

  3. 18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,

When I read this scripture the word reminds me how Jesus pays close attention to our hearts which is always better to humble and repent even if we feel we didn’t do anything wrong. I’d rather be right with King Jesus!
    Hallelujah!
    Thank You Jesus!

  4. “Let me have this power, too,” he exclaimed, “so that when I lay my hands on people, they will receive the Holy Spirit!” But Peter replied, “May your money be destroyed with you for thinking God’s gift can be bought! You can have no part in this, for your heart is not right with God. Repent of your wickedness and pray to the Lord. Perhaps he will forgive your evil thoughts, for I can see that you are full of bitter jealousy and are held captive by sin.”
Acts of the Apostles 8:19‭-‬23 NLT

It wasn’t that his heart was wanting the power to give the Holy Ghost or was it his hunger for it, it was his wickedness and evil thoughts that created his bitter jealousy that was rebuked by Peter. This world has no idea what kind of power God has given to us and the ones that are wicked in their heart will be revealed through situations where their intentions come out

  5. 26. “And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go…”

    27. “And he arose and went…”

    29. Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.

    30. “And Philip ran thither to him…”

    Simple obedience
No questioning, no second-guessing, no debate, no delay; he just went.

    1 Samuel 15:22
“…Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.”

  6. Acts 8: 6-7 And the people with one a cord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.
    7) For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them, and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.
    8) And there was great joy in that city.
The second outstanding deacon was Philip, as he preached the message of Christ in Samaria, mircles took place.
As we come in unity, and be Baptized inJesus name, the joy come , and mircles happen.
Because the Joy of the Lord is our Strength.
    Thank you Jesus!

  7. 4 Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.

Persecution of the church became more intense after Stephen‘s death. They were forced to scatter. In doing so they shared the Word wherever they went.

  8. Acts of the Apostles 8:35
So beginning with this same Scripture, Philip told him the Good News about Jesus.

We need to share the good news of Jesus with others

  9. Verses 20-23 CEV “Peter said to him, “You and your money will both end up in hell if you think you can buy God’s gift! You don’t have any part in this, and God sees that your heart isn’t right. Get rid of these evil thoughts and ask God to forgive you. I can see that you are jealous and bound by your evil ways.”

2 Corinthians 6:14-15 VOICE says “Don’t develop partnerships with those who are not followers of Jesus’ teachings. For what real connection can exist between righteousness and rebellion? How can light participate in darkness? What harmony can exist between the Anointed and Satan?[a] Do the faithful and the faithless have anything in common?” Romans 12:21 VOICE “Never let evil get the best of you; instead, overpower evil with the good.”

  10. You ain’t gotta be a good story teller. You ain’t gotta be a smart theologian. You don’t have to be a famous preacher.

Just speak the truth in Jesus Christ and the word of God will do the rest of the work.

“The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, was the prophet talking about himself or someone else?” So beginning with this same Scripture, Philip told him the Good News about Jesus.”
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭8:34-35‬ ‭NLT‬‬

When believers are hungry just show them and teach them basic doctrine. Their eyes will be open wide! And they will see the value of repentance and baptism for them selves.

  11. 23 I see that you are full of bitter jealousy
And can not stop yourself from doing wrong.
    —-
I like how Peter stood and confronted him
And protected that moment in Jesus name
But also he did mention and I like that he told Simon to repent, also it was the Holy Ghost showing him
What was goi g on within him( Simon).

    Today is a new day🙌
A new day of Gods mercy
I repent, I move on, I keep walking
With you Lord by my side.
    In Jesus name.
    Hallelujah 🙌

  12. GREATER
    THE MESSAGE

12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

The LORD highlighted to me today that the people were believers in the sorcery of Simon until they heard about JESUS and then were all Baptized in JESUS name, including Simon the sorcerer.

It is obvious by the results of the ministry of Philip that he preached JESUS name Baptism, as both mentions of ministry concluded with sould baptized in JESUS Name.

Who has JESUS placed in our lives, just waiting for us to tell them about the WORD of GOD and the command to be baptized in JESUS Name.

THE MESSAGE is repeated by the disciples of JESUS.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iLive
    iGive
    iReap
    iGo
    iBlessYouInTheNameOfTheLordJESUS
iSee a REVIVAL and HARVEST building that is GREATER than anything I have ever seen coming to The POFW.

  13. As for Philip, an angel of the Lord said to him, “Go south down the desert road that runs from Jerusalem to Gaza.” So he started out, and he met the treasurer of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under the Kandake, the queen of Ethiopia. The eunuch had gone to Jerusalem to worship, and he was now returning. Seated in his carriage, he was reading aloud from the book of the prophet Isaiah. The Holy Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and walk along beside the carriage.””
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭8:26-29‬ ‭NLT‬‬

This is a marvelous example of how God leads us to accomplish His purpose.

  14. 18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,

Our flesh always wants to go the fastest and easiest way, BUT this Holy Ghost CANNOT be bought with silver nor gold!!! For It is freely given to all!!!

  15. 26 And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.

We have to be ready to move when God calls on us, we have to be ready to speak the word of the lord.

  16. 26 And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.

We have to be ready to move when God calls on us, we have to be ready to speak the word of the lord.

  17. The Kingdom of Jesus is GREATER
21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.

Most folks today wouldn’t have liked this First Church. The Apostles weren’t playing around. They called out Simon and quickly judged him right there in the middle of Revival. Simon was a brand new convert. He just became a believer and was just baptized. Most would have given him a pass, but not the first church. They woulda surely been blasted on social media

  18. “But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Cæsarea.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭8:40‬ ‭KJV‬‬

It begins with one, a very wise man said this to my husband and I. This statement is true. Hallelujah our city is waiting on us to guide them in all truth as Philip did with the eunuch. The only thing that will be a great hindrance would be you and I, doubt and fear. But that was in our past.
We are anointed by GOD through the power of The Holy Ghost. Let’s go continue to reach for souls,

  19. 3 As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.
4 Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.

Persecution brought revival in the places they were scattered to. Samaria next received the apostolic doctrine along with Simon the sorcerer. Then the Gentiles will be next. Thank God he has a plan for thr region of Ft Worth to receive this doctrine and has a plan to use each of us to spread the word.

  20. I love POFW LIVE JESUS GIVE JESUS2 GREATER! 7 For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.

8 And there was great joy in that city.

The joy is the key word here. Joy is an excellent way for people to see and want what us believers have. Definitely a soul winning tool!

  21. 6 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.

7 For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.

8 And there was great joy in that city.

Saul was creating havoc in the church, but it did not stop the believers. They heard the word and they responded, they wasn’t detoured by the havoc.

I’m thankful for the word of the Lord this past week that has taken the eyes of POFW off the havoc/chaos and back onto the Lord and His purpose. We too can see the miracles, signs and wonders that are portrayed in this chapter, and their can be great joy in the region of Fort Worth that God has called us to. Keep your eyes on JESUS, He won’t let you down.

  22. And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest.

  23. Acts 8:4-5, 12. & 35
    4) Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the WORD.
    5) Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached CHRIST unto them.

    12) But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the Kingdom of God, and the Name of JESUS CHRIST, they were baptized, both men and women.

    35) Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him (the eunuch) JESUS.

No matter where you are, no matter if it’s to many or one, the message is the same; We need to preach the WORD – We need to preach the things concerning the Kingdom of God, and the Name of JESUS CHRIST!

  24. 4 Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.

They were scattered yet they continue to walk with purpose. They continued to preach the Word of God. Life and seasons change but we have to become disciplined enough to stay on purpose. It is important for us to keep our hearts right. Refusing to allow people, things, and seasons of life to cause us to be distracted from the reality that we must keep ourselves saved in order to help save others.

  25. 9 But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:
10 To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God.
11 And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.
12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

There is no greater power than that of the Lord Jesus Christ and he has given us the power through the Holy Ghost to cast out demons and to be a witness to the last of his great love for them.

  26. The Living Bible
    vs:(36-38)
As they rode along ,they came to a small body of water, and the eunuch said,
Look !water! Why can’t I be baptized? You can Philip answered, if you believe with all your heart. And the Eunuch replied, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He stopped the chariot , and they went down into the water and Philip baptized him.

There are different places in the Bible that when people were going to be baptized they had to find enough water to go underwater to be baptized. Other churches when they baptized the sprinkled water over the person head. If this is O.K. why were there different places in the Bible where they had to find enough water to be baptized and go completely underwater???? As in vs-36-37 they came upon a body of water and the eunuch said
    Look! Water!

  27. 24 Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me.

    Simon needed the truth.
In this chapter it read that Simon used witchcraft and thought that he was God. Simon needed someone to come and tell him the truth, which happened. Imagine how many people don’t know the truth and need us to come bring them to the gospel. We need to be the ones who do all that we can for others to be saved!

  28. 16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)

This talks about being baptized in Jesus name and not the son the father and the Holy Ghost.

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

  29. 5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them.

35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

In this chapter we see Phillip preaching to a whole city and to one man. People are important to God, whether it’s one or many. We can talk to people in stores, restaurants, clinics, on the phone, through the mail and house to house.

  30. 8 And there was great joy in that city.
    **********************
A city can be happy, with celebration like we do at New Years, 4th of July, birthdays or any other event. But it is when a person gets alone by them self are they still happy? There is a difference in being happy and having joy. Joy is there when no matter the circumstance we have the peace of God in us. Joy fills our soul and nothing can take it away. Happiness last only depending on what is happening. Joy overcome any situation with knowing all is and will be well for God is in control. Joy is from God!
    *********************
20 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.

21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.

22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.
    *************************
We can’t buy salvation, or joy, or forgiveness. We can have peace and all these things as a gift from our Lord. Repent, be baptized and be filled with the Holy Ghost, it’s free, it’s a gift. Accept it and have the Joy in your heart forever. Thank you Jesus for your saving grace.

  31. I learned that let men and women be baptized just like the scripture Acts 2:38 Peter said onto them repent and be baptized in the remission of sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost that what I learned.

  32. Acts 8:4 Therefore they that were scattered abroad went everywhere preaching the word.

Matthew 10:23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee you into another:

They went everywhere preaching the word, they did not go to hide themselves for fear of suffering, no, nor to show themselves as proud of their sufferings; they just spread the gospel every place they went and that’s what we need to keep doing, going forward with the gospel to every community, City in DFW

  33. For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.

In the in the time of prosecution and uncertainty we cannot let our situations destroy us nor fold us nor break us but we must still continue to go out and preach and teach by God called us to do there’s a city full of people that are lame there’s still a city Full of people that have palsies still full of people that need to be healed so we still need to have a full heart of Christ we go impact our city

  34. 12But now the people believed Philip’s message of Good News concerning the Kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ. As a result, many men and women were baptized.

If your voice is louder and firmer than others you’ll be heard. You can influence many to God, if we only speak out. Tell and teach others the Word and they’ll believe.

  35. 31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.

We all need instructions in order to fulfill God’s purpose. He will always show us the way and all we have to do is be willing. Our hope is in him.

  36. 6 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.

7 For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.

God is the same yesterday and forever! Your kingdom come Lord.

  37. 14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:

15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:

16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)

17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

  38. 9 But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:
10 To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God.
11 And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.

We must stay humble and not get a big head thinking we are someone special, because Jesus is who we are serving…

  39. 17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

It’s not up to you or I who does or doesn’t get the Holy Ghost, but Jesus is the one to fill them.

  40. And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭8:37‬ ‭KJV‬‬

He believed and still was baptized. Belief isn’t enough. We need to be born again and be filled with the Holy Ghost as well

  41. Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.

30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?

31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come

Pray that the Lord will lead you to hearts that are hungry and ready to receive the message.

  42. 18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,
19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.

This power cannot be bought! Jesus already paid the price and now looks for the true worshippers who believe without doubt!

  43. And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.

2 And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.

3 As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.

4 Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.

5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them.

6 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.
