Joshua Chapter 5

Joshua 5

1And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, which were on the side of Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, which were by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.

2At that time the LORD said unto Joshua, Make thee sharp knives, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time.

3And Joshua made him sharp knives, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.

4And this is the cause why Joshua did circumcise: All the people that came out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came out of Egypt.

5Now all the people that came out were circumcised: but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, them they had not circumcised.

6For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD sware that he would not shew them the land, which the LORD sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.

7And their children, whom he raised up in their stead, them Joshua circumcised: for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them by the way.

8And it came to pass, when they had done circumcising all the people, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.

9And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of the place is called Gilgal unto this day.

10And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.

11And they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes, and parched corn in the selfsame day.

12And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

13And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?

14And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my Lord unto his servant?

15And the captain of the LORD’s host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.

    Renewing Relationship With GOD
GOD’S WORD is quick, and powerful, and shaper than any twoedged sword”
HIS WORD will circumcise our flesh. Something ought to happen when HIS WORD is preached. It ought to change us.

We must walk in the Spirit and not fulfil the lust of the flesh. This let’s us know that there’s a place you can get in GOD where you can live sanctified by the Spirit.
Thank you, JESUS! HIS SPIRIT will make us different.
It’s important to have a relationship with GOD and never lose it.
1 John 2:26 says…. Not to become seduce of those that have no revelation of who JESUS IS.
We ( i ) must know HIM, and HE must know us. Through HIS WORD, and PRAYER.
    One writer wrote i quote:
“HE came like we were to make us like
    HE IS.”

    HIS PRESENCE IS SO NEAR

  2. v 1 ” That their heart melted neither was there spirit in them anymore, because of the children of Israel”

I’m reminded of the 23rd PS verse 5
” Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies”

Our flesh is an enemy and worthless without
GOD. Be filled with HIS SPIRIT.

  3. vs 13 Joshua was not afraid to go unto a man even though that man had his sword drawn. Joshua had a promise he knew that he would be safe from God and from harm. We too have promises and should not be afraid go forth and witness to whomever God allows to cross our path.

  4. v13
The man introducd Himself as commander of the army of the lord.
CHRIST does not come merety to help us, and certainly not to harm us, He come to take full control .

    “ANGEL OF THE LORD”

***This “man” was the “Captain of the Lord’s Host”. Who is this Captain?
Revelation 12:7 And there was war in heaven: MICHAEL AND HIS ANGELS fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,

Joshua had an encounter with the arch angel Michael. The Israelites showed God they “feared Him” by keeping the comandment to get circumcised, therefore God sent the spiritual “real army of angels” led by thier captain, into the camp BEFORE the army of “flesh”, who were led by Joshua.

***Psalms 34:7 The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.8 O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.9 O fear the Lord, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.10 The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing.

11 Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the Lord.12 What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good?13 Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.14 Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.15 The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry

HAVING THE FEAR OF THE LORD IS CONNECTED WITH WHETHER ANGELS GO BEFORE US OR WE GO ALONE.

Proverbs 8:13 The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

***If we do not hate pride, hate arrogancy, hate the evil way, and hate the froward (or perverse and lying) mouth…WE DO NOT FEAR THE LORD and determines whether we win or lose the battle…

  6. Developmental Milestones

Getting right with God is important before moving foward to follow His will. Such as in Moses and Joshua’s time is relevent in ours. Moses couldn’t carry out God will for Isreal in Egypt until his son was 1st circumcised, luckly his wife interveined Ex 4:25. Neither will Joshua be able to move forward with the Israelites until they submit the the Law and the Lord “rolls away the reproach of Egypt from them” vs9. Today we are called to do the same for…Gal 3:24So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christh that we might be justified by faith. 25Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law. NIV Thank you Jesus!

Its wasn’t until they celebrated the Passover that they ate some of the produce from the land: unleaven bread and roasted grain, and the manna stopped the day after the food from this land; there was no longer any many for the Israelites, but that year they ate from the produce of Canaan vs11-12. Its not until we show our faithfulness that we will be able to move past the manna, or baby food and enter into the promised produce. Paul speaks of this message in 1 Cor 3:1But I, brothers, could not address you as spiritual people, but as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ. 2I fed you with milk, not solid food, for you were not ready for it. And even now you are not yet ready, 3for you are still of the flesh. For while there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way? Milestones are reached and grown out of as spiritual infants to become spiritual people through knowledge and undertanding(with obedience to) the Word of God.

  7. 6For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD sware that he would not shew them the land, which the LORD sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.
8And it came to pass, when they had done circumcising all the people, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.

9And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of the place is called Gilgal unto this day.

Disobedience brought reproach to the children of Israel. The act of circumcision brought about a mass cleansing of the children of Israel and lifted the reproach of Egypt. A spiritual circumcision is required today to lift the reproach of sin. A cutting away of the flesh and a feeding of the Spirit is necessary to our daily lives. Anytime we flee temptation and stand on the word of God we are tearing at our flesh and putting it under submission to the Spirit of God.

The last part of verse 9 refers to the place called Gilgal. There is debate among scholars that ” the place was named Gilgal in memory of the reproach of Egypt being removed by this act of mass circumcision. Although Gilgal is phonetically similar to gallothi, meaning I have removed in Hebrew, some believe that it is more likely that Gilgal means circle of standing stones, and refers to the stone circle that was there.” (GilgalFrom Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Perhaps, it’s both the place of cleansing and memorial. Do we not have a similar experience the day we received the Holy Ghost? That day brought cleansing and is definitively memorialized in our hearts. I pray, I work, I give and I reap!

  8. WHEN THEY HEAR THE TESTIMONY

1 And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, which were on the side of Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, which were by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.

The result of the miraculous act of GOD is that the adversaries were now fearful. Unusual Spiritual advancement is made when we submit to, obey, and follow throughout with the commands of GOD.

When they heard what the LORD did.

*******DO NOT SPEND YOUR TIME TALKING ABOUT WHAT PEOPLE DID! TALK ABOUT WHAT THE LORD DID!

Testifying about what GOD did will cause even our adversaries to FEAR the LORD; as a result of what GOD has done for us.

  9. Verse 1 in the MSG reads….”When all the Amorite kings west of the Jordan and the Canaanite kings along the seacoast heard how God had stopped the Jordan River before the People of Israel until they had crossed over, their hearts sank; the courage drained out of them just thinking about the People of Israel.” We need to believe/obey and God will take care of our enemies!

  10. v6 NKJV For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people who were men of war, who came out of Egypt , were consumed, because they did not obey the voice of the Lord ……
That phrase “men of war” speaks of men of military age. Men who were able to fight. Men who should have conquered the land. They were soldiers! Yet, disobedience “listening to the wrong marching orders” left them to die in their fear.
Let’s be careful to listen to our orders from God so that we can take Fort Worth for the Lord. It is been promised to us.

  11. Our Victorious God!

Vs 1 All the kings of the Amorites west of the Jordan and the Canaanite kings living by the Mediterranean Sea heard that the Lord dried up the Jordan River until the Israelites had crossed it. After that they were scared and too afraid to face the Israelites. NCV

    * The Lord our God is Mighty! Who or what should we fear? I hear the sound of victory and it’s so loud even the enemies can hear it! *

Psalms 110: 1 The LORD said to my Lord, “Sit by me at my right side until I put your enemies under your control.” 2 The LORD will enlarge your kingdom beyond Jerusalem, and you will rule over your enemies. NCV

II Chron. 20:15 He said, “Listen to me, King Jehoshaphat and all you people living in Judah and Jerusalem. The LORD says this to you: ‘Don’t be afraid or discouraged because of this large army. The battle is not your battle, it is God’s.

Romans 8: 31 So what should we say about this? If God is for us, no one can defeat us. NCV

Isa 54:13-17 All your children will have God for their teacher —what a mentor for your children! You’ll be built solid, grounded in righteousness, far from any trouble—nothing to fear! far from terror—it won’t even come close! If anyone attacks you, don’t for a moment suppose that I sent them, And if any should attack, nothing will come of it. I create the blacksmith who fires up his forge and makes a weapon designed to kill. I also create the destroyer—but no weapon that can hurt you has ever been forged. Any accuser who takes you to court will be dismissed as a liar. This is what God’s servants can expect. I’ll see to it that everything works out for the best.” God’s Decree. MSG

    “Pancakes From Heaven”

12And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more

***I remember the time when free pancakes use to rain down on my plate almost every morning.***

Every morning I would wake up around 3 a.m.and wait for the doors to roll open…waiting…just waiting to be able to go down and get some good home cooking.

Now most of my “brothers in white” would grumble and complain and say” oh no, pancakes again!”, but I would always be thankful because I saw it as “Manna from Heaven.”

But a strange, yet predictable thing happened when I stepped through the walls one day…The free provision dried up…I was faced with reality…I would now have to provide for myself, after all those years of free loading…

Well, I don’t think the complaining Children of Israel missed the manna too much…but that is a shame, because they didn’t realize that the manna was a type and shadow of the WORD of God coming down.

John 6:41 The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven.

  13. To me I believe when they circumsised them it was a new covenant and a new beginning for them with God. Kind of like our baptism today Their slate was clean even from the past sins of their fathers.

  14. Through Eyes Of Faith
v13 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?

    Wow! That’s relationship with GOD.
Joshua knew that this meant war, and the LORD was the captain on his side.
Joshua saw a vision and heard a word from the LORD….v14 ” I COME NOW”
Let’s receive that word for the POFW,
and see the vision of our leadership through the eyes of faith, and WORSHIP The LORD
HE is NOW COME and working in our behalf
Thank GOD that our leader ( our Pastor) like Joshua is looking out for us. Our shepherd is going to stay with his sheep regardless of the dangers,up’s and down’s
Nobody knows more than our leader where that power comes from
___ It comes from the anointing of the HOLY GHOST__
After many hours of preparation, studying, praying, fasting, spiritual dedication and sensitivity seeking GOD’S Voice Spirit, Will And His Ways on behalf of GOD’S church.
The power Of GOD cannot be bought.
Something’s are not for sale. You cannot buy love, peace of mind, nor friends.
Friends you have to buy will forsake you when your money is all gone, but
What a friend we have in JESUS and in our leadership.. Pastor and his lovely wife.
I Love you both, and church family we have each other too,and i love you too!

  15. Circumcise is cutting away the unneeded flesh the people did this as a sign of cutting away the world from there live that was the people who came out of Egypt but we see that there children are now grown up and not yet been circumcised so God tells Jushua to circumcise them so they to will be set apart from this world.
This shows us that just because are family is saved dosent mean we don’t have to be also we all must be set apart from this world.

  16. Gods word is great because it tells us that if we obey then we to will have the goodness of the land(milk and honey) but if we dont then we too will be lost in the wilderness thinking to ourself of the promise, not realizing that yes it was meant for us but because we didnt obey the voice of God then we cant have it

  17. 9.- And the Lord told Joshua,This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from of you ….. to me, this is the beginning of another chapter in their lives….do you notice it?they are experiencing new stuff….
    —they celebrate the Passover
—they ate from the fruit of the ground
    —-they ate bread….
13.- And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lift up his eyes and looked and behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand:and Joshua went unto him,art thou for us,or for our adversaries?

I think the angel of the Lord had a long talk with Joshua,I think he was there to confirm that God was with him,and that he (Joshua had long ways to go)…. There is a future, there is hope….
Jeremiah 31.17there is hope in your future says the Lord, that your children shall come back to their own border.
    Anyways
God said it very clear:This day have I rolled away the reproach…

  18. 4 And this is the cause why Joshua did circumcise: All the people that came out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came out of Egypt.
5 Now all the people that came out were circumcised: but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, them they had not circumcised.
6 For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD sware that he would not shew them the land, which the LORD sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.

Joshua had to do some cutting away. My thought for this. Sometimes I have wondered why when God gives us a blessing that He sometimes takes away something. This story has opened my knowledge to it. We see here that it wasn’t until they came over to Jorden,”the beginning of the promise land,” to cut away. Why is this? I believe it’s because on the other side is the past. And they needed a new start in their life.

  19. To fear the Lord is often taken in a wrong way. Many people think of fear as punishment for doing something wrong or having a fear of worldly things. Since God is love and all love drives out fear than we know that this cannot be the fear that the bible is talking about. To fear the Lord is to reverence him and yield to his authority in your life. The Fear of the Lord is rooted in our relationship to God as his adopted Children. The Fear of the Lord is not servile fear (having to do with punishment) it is filial fear (the dread of offending or being separated from God who is our loving Father).
The Fear of the Lord is rooted in our love for God. We really love God, with all our heart! He is Abba Father. He has given us everything and we deeply love and reverence him. The thought of offending him fills us with dread! We cannot bear the thought that we have offended God in any way because of the great love that we have for him.
Fear the Lord and be blessed, protected, saved and wrapped in the love of God.

  20. 9And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of the place is called Gilgal unto this day.

There is nothing to hard for God. All power is in his hand and he will take away those things that bind us. Freedom starts in the mind. If God sets you free and believe that you are still bound, then you are not truly free. God will take those things that are in our way, remove them and give us the power over them.

  21. 13 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?

14 And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my Lord unto his servant?

15 And the captain of the LORD’s host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.

If you ever had any doubt that the battle belongs to the Lord, this verse is for you. He has the battle so well organized He even got a Captain. So, fear not, hold on to your sword, and go with confidence for the battle belongs to the Lord & He already has the Victory.

  22. Waiting for a promise

13 And then this, while Joshua was there near Jericho:

I can only begin to imagine what Joshua was thinking as he stood there looking at Jericho. Finally I get my promise. Imagine waiting 40 years to get what God had for you. He wasn’t scared of the man with the sword because he had a promise. He asked the angel are you with us or against us much the way John the Baptist asked Jesus are you he who was coming.

waiting its hard, paientence is probablty the virtue less sought after. but when the waiting is over and your on the verge of the promise. When we quit looking for a new building and stand on a freshly poured slab, we might begin to understand what Joshua felt. when we quit praying for revival and stand in a stadium with thousands recieving the holy ghost for the first time we might begin to feel what Joshua felt when he saw Jericho.
When we finally get what God promised, we wont want to rush down and conquer it, we will stand on a hill side and just look at it with a smile on our face.

Luke 2:25-35 (MSG) In Jerusalem at the time, there was a man, Simeon by name, a good man, a man who lived in the prayerful expectancy of help for Israel. And the Holy Spirit was on him. The Holy Spirit had shown him that he would see the Messiah of God before he died. Led by the Spirit, he entered the Temple. As the parents of the child Jesus brought him in to carry out the rituals of the Law, Simeon took him into his arms and blessed God:

    God, you can now release your servant;
release me in peace as you promised.
    With my own eyes I’ve seen your salvation;
it’s now out in the open for everyone to see:
    A God-revealing light to the non-Jewish nations,
and of glory for your people Israel.

33-35Jesus’ father and mother were speechless with surprise at these words. Simeon went on to bless them, and said to Mary his mother,

This child marks both the failure and
the recovery of many in Israel,
    A figure misunderstood and contradicted—
the pain of a sword-thrust through you—
But the rejection will force honesty,
as God reveals who they really are

  23. God doesn’t take sides but rather chooses those who would fulfill HIS purpose. We should not expect God to do what we want Him to do just because we want it. I would rather just Stay in His presence in worship and praise and let God be God and Speak to us. When the Captain of the Lord was asked”what side are you on ?’ He said,Nay or no. He wasn’t picking sides {so we better behave} He was a Captain of the Lord and He was doing Gods will and not ours. When Israel sinned God sent the enemy in to put Israel in bondage. Could this happen to America? Yes it could . And who will we blame? Think about it.

  24. 5-9
The reproach to Egypt was the shame to slavery. The circumcision of this generation in obedience to Gods ancient command came at a time when the new genration was about to take its place as a nation in its own right. The shame which was attached to circumcision as a mark of a slave race was about to be replaced by the pride of becoming a race of conquerors.

  25. 8And it came to pass, when they had done circumcising all the people, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.

Notice that the cutting of the flesh was so severe that it caused them to have a time of recovery. When we have circumcised our heart we will experience a period of recovery. Repentance should be a painful bloody experience that shouldn’t just be an “Im sorry” and then we go on, but a deliberate turning away.

    Why?

When we truly repent, and circumcise our hearts we become candidates for divine visitation.

  26. Joshua 5:12 KJV

And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.
Manna stop coming when the went to go find food fir themselfs

  27. “v2 At that time the LORD said unto Joshua, Make thee sharp knives, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time.” This is an analogy of our relationship with the savior. Had the Israelite s not murmured and complained, they would have made it to the promise land! If we do the opposite and rejoice in the lord no matter how badly those cuts hurt from the cutting away of our flesh, our carnal wants, then we will survive and make it to the promise and God wouldn’t have to instruct us to go through the painful and time consuming process over again!

  28. 1And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, which were on the side of Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, which were by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.
The testimony of what God was doing in favor of his people, had the enemy already on the run-even before the Israealites got there! Let me testify that God has already begun to shrink the tumor in my grandson’s chest! When the church prayed for Kristy Sun night she was in grave danger of pre-term labor-even before the specialist could see the baby! Next morning Kristy reported that she felt great & was hungry instead of having the nausea and vomiting and cramping. Then the Dr gave her the report that the tumor was smaller than it had been just 3 days before! this is remarkable because she is in the time period when the tumor grows the most! Praise the Lord! He is not through yet! iPray for the many needs that have come in to the church and isay that the enemy is on the run! Praise the Lord for He is good and it is He that healeth all our diseases; He is our comforter and our provider! You haven’t seen anything yet! I love to brag on God 🙂

  29. From Sharp Knives to a Drawn Sword

Joshua obeyed the Lord by making sharp knives and circumcising as the Lord commanded. We too must obey the Lord and be circumcised… Spiritually speaking, a cutting away of the flesh in our spiritual lives. This will cause us to be whole in the spirit. Circumcision is probably not at the top of the fun-o-meter but is necessary to reproduce spiritually. If we will allow God’s word coming from the man of God to cut us it will lead us to a drawn sword of the captain f the Lord of hosts going to battle with us!

No knive to the flesh = No accompaniment of angels

  30. “And they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes, and parched corn in the selfsame day.
12And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.”
Praise the Lord Saints!!!!! AInt it funny what a little submission can do!?! All the Israelite s had to do is cut the complaining so much and everything that the people are enjoying in this passage could have been theirs! Cut away the unnecessary carnal things we want and watch God work! Amen!

  31. 15. And the captain of the LORD’s host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy.
    And Joshua did so.

When the man God sent to Joshua told him to do something, he simply obeyed.

1 Samuel 15:22 (KJV) “…Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice…”

“Angel of the Lord” Part 2

14And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come.

***Some may question whether the captain of the host of the Lord was an angel, or if it was Jesus.***

I personally believe, after much study, that this “Captain” is an angel.

One of the most interesting things the Word says is, ” 15And the captain of the LORD’s host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy.”

A similar verse is found in Exodus 3:4 And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.5 And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.

THE KEY IS FOUND IN EXODUS 3:2, “And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush:”

Also I looked up “Captain” in the Hebrew…

From H8323; a head person (of any rank or class): – captain (that had rule), chief (captain), general, governor, keeper, lord, ([-task-]) master, prince (-ipal), ruler, steward.

Interesting enough check out this scripture…

(Dan 12:1) And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

Do you know what “PRINCE” is in the Hebrew?

    THE SAME WORD as CAPTAIN.

oh, there is more…the first 3 or 4 chapters of the Book of Hebrews explains this better than i could…

    yummy Word

  33. V9 “And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of the place is called Gilgal unto this day.”

Just coming out of a situation doesn’t mean you’re completely free of it. Remnants of a situation can cling to you and it feels like the you’ve got the ghost of it hanging around, haunting you, even though you’ve left it behind in one way or another. Like a stain that remains in clothing even after it goes through the wash, sometimes something more is needed. We must allow God to take us to our personal Gilgal and remove those spots and wrinkles left by those situations, to not just take us out of the situation but also take the situation out of us.

Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”

  34. 6

For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD sware that he would not shew them the land, which the LORD sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.

  35. The last few verses of this chapter show the true courage of Joshua to ask the angel are u for us or against us is the spirit of a mighty man of valor… He showed this attitude his whole life and performed many mighty works as a result.

  36. The people of Isreal had to become circumscised after they had traveled through the wilderness. These people were grown and they had to have the extra cut away from them so they would be closer to GOD and in his will. We all need to have the extra cut away from our lives. After it is cut away we need to stay in our “tents” to heal or become whole. When we have had the extra cut away and we have had time to heal then GOD will allow us to move on with his promises in our lives.

  37. 6For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD sware that he would not shew them the land, which the LORD sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.

7And their children, whom he raised up in their stead, them Joshua circumcised: for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them by the way.

The children of the men of war had to have their flesh cut away, because they had wandered in the wilderness until all the men of war, who obeyed not the voice of the Lord died. Many times we pick up attitudes, and actions from those who obey not the voice of the Lord, and we need the Lord to cut it out of our lives. This happens through test, trials and hard times and some old fashion prayer, taking us back to the potters will to reform and remake our thinking or character to become Christ like.

  38. 14And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my Lord unto his servant?
15And the captain of the LORD’s host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.

When we circumcise our flesh and keep His commands, we open the door for God to do the miraculous all around us….

  39. This chapter illustrates waiting. “For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD”. Disobedience will hinder ones promise and increase the wait for the blessings of the Lord. May the good Lord bless you all in Jesus name, Amen
