1 John Chapter 2

1 John 2

1My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

2And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

3And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

4He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

5But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

6He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

7Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.

8Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.

9He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.

10He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.

11But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

12I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.

13I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.

14I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

15Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

17And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

18Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.

19They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

20But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.

21I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.

22Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

23Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.

24Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.

25And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.

26These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.

27But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

28And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

29If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.

  1. A reality for all leaders to accept; a painful, very painful reality. 19 They left us, but they were never really with us. If they had been, they would have stuck it out with us, loyal to the end. In leaving, they showed their true colors, showed they never did belong. The reason this scripture is so painful for leaders, especially Pastors, true shepherds, who have charged from the LORD to LOVE and FEED his sheep. There is a natural Spiritual, relational attachment. Ant separation or division of that relationship is painful and rejecting. However it is the Word of the LORD and very necessary to be accepted, understood, and proceed forward.

What a WONDERFUL Revelation for all to receive.

4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

Relationship with JESUS = Disassociation with sin.

Continuing in sin + Confessing Christ = LIAR

It seems very simple to understand, yet very challenging to accomplish. The LORD desires that we do not sin; but if we do Jesus died for our sins; however if we abuse the gift of grace and forgiveness and continue sinning then we by our own actions void that gift by becoming a liar in confessing that we belong to GOD but refuse to keep HIS commandments.

LORD help my integrity with you is my prayer today.

    BE Church
    Keep HIS Commandments

  2. Vs 24-25 For those that choose to remain with Christ Jesus until the end have the promise of eternal life with Him.
As humans, we may fall, but through Him, we can get back up and through His annointing we are able to continue fighting the good fight of faith.
Abide in Him-find your secret place in Him & let Him shelter you from the storms. You have a promise!

  3. 1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

I read this a so many times and it has never resounded so loudly in my ears like it has today. My job title is Bilingual Advocate. My job, although I love it, it is very stressful, I deal and see things, ugly things of this world that I dont like. When I read verse 1, it hit me, Jesus does for us all and more, mine is a sand pebble beside what He does. The ugly things He has to see and try to advocate for us, my eyes fill with tears of repentance; LORD HELP US!!!!

  4. 5But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

I want the love of God to be perfected in me. Keep the word, Be Church!

  5. 15Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

  6. 1 My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous.
2 He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.

  7. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one.
This part of scripture speaks to me in a prophetic voice. Any young man that is going through something should read this chapter and understand it is for them. Even if they are still in the midst of there problem, they have overcome the wicked one.

  8. 27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

Wow; teach me Lord..I NEED YOUR TRUTH

  9. There is so much you could elaborate on in this chapter; I guess in my mind I sum it up like this…

Don’t let the Style of your Life contradict the Style of your Speech.

  10. Abide means to remain stay and continue in the same place.

This chapter to me is saying “just abide in him”

If we do this we won’t lie, hate our brother, reject Christ, or be of this world.

Abiding in him means we won’t backside and we will be reaching others.

What other place would we rather be than with him.anyway?

  11. v 21I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.

The truth shall make you free.

  12. RSB v27 ” As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you,”
The Spirit whom they had received would teach them how to distinguish truth from error.
The Spirit may use human teachers to accomplish this (Eph.4:11-14

God is present and He is Holy. His anointing
teaches us about everything . He reveals all
truth and is no lie. He desires a relationship
    with us.
    HE IS HOLY !!!

  13. 3And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

4He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

Our talk and our walk should match. Many say they love the Lord, but their walk does not say the same thing. His word declares, if ye love me keep my commandments. It doesn’t say chose the ones you want to keep, or keep only the ones that make you comfortable. Sometimes keeping this commandments are not easy, but the obedience is well worth the end result.

  14. 15,
We are plainly warned not to love the world or the things that are to the world, for the simple reason that love for the world
Is not compatible with love for the father. all that the world has to offermaybe described as the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of lif. The lust of the flesh refers

  15. 29 You know that Christ always does right and that everyone who does right is a child of God.

Stay true to God and don’t doubt!

  16. V16-17 “16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.”

This really seems to sum up the bottom line of life on this earth, echoing Ecc 12:13 “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” Life is full of things that can become distractions and snares in the way of living for God: relationships, jobs, possessions, etc.

The Bible says God will provide all our needs, however attached to our needs are often wants (lusts) which are not necessarily going to be provided for. In our minds, we associate the fulfillment of those needs with the fulfillment of associated wants. This snowballs into our wants becoming “needs”, which fulfilled and reinforced become habits and lifestyles. These, built off often harmless needs, turn into distractions and snares.

Just previous to this is v15 “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” That word “love” in referring to “love not the world” is agapaō, which according to Thayer’s Lexicon, in regards to love of a thing, denotes “to take pleasure in the thing, prize it above other things, be unwilling to abandon it or do without it.” This world will pass away, if we are unwilling to abandon it or do without it then we will doom ourselves to pass away with it and go into eternity to find everlasting destruction.

The question is, what are we tied to? Are we chained and shackled to this world? Or are we chained and shackled to God? When He comes to call His bride to Him, will it be old hat to us as we live each day abiding in Him and Him in us? Or will it be impossible to rise to meet Him because we refuse to part with everything else?

Rom 5:5 “And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” The love of God is in us by the Holy Ghost, and we need to Holy Ghost to rise to meet Christ in His return. The antidote available to the church for the love of the world and the fate of the world is be full of the love of God, full of the Holy Ghost, to continue in Him.

V28 “And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.”

V24 “Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.”

1 Cor 2:2 “For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.”

    Be Founded in Christ
Be Full of the Holy Ghost
    Be Church

  17. 17 And the world passes away and disappears, and with it the forbidden cravings (the passionate desires, the lust) of it; but he who does the will of God and carries out His purposes in his life abides (remains) forever. AMP

Reminds me of the song and its so true. Only what you do for Christ will last.

You may build great cathedrals large or small, you can build skyscrapers grand and tall, you may conquer all the failures of the past, but only what you do for Christ will last.
Chorus: Remember only what You do for Christ will last. Remember only what you do for Christ will last, only what you do for Him will be counted at the end; only what you do for Christ will last.

  18. 1My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
——–if we sin we deal with daddy

  19. 15Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

Anytime it becomes hard for us to portray the love of God to someone we might want to check ourselves because we are in sin.

  20. We need to be careful what we do because if we appear to be too much like the world then this passage tell us that God is not truly in us.

  21. This chapter is either a warning or reassurance, which we are the ones that choose. We are to love people/souls, we are to keep God’s commandments and we are to Be-Church. If we hate, mock and/or backbite people/souls than we are lost, if we do not keep God’s commandments than we are lost and if we are not Church than we are lost. Life comes from God’s Word and prayer, we must eat and drink of it or we will be lost. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  22. 18Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.

This struck me a bit different….as we move toward the end times, we get to looking for the antichrist as one person, and forget about the “anti christs,” which are many things, not just one person. Anything that is against Him, by definition, is anti christ. The devil wants us to be so cautious of one single threat that we lose sight of his other devices that can creep into our lives if we aren’t praying, and reading, and fasting. Those antichrists are more dangerous than the antichrist that will come in the end because they will damage our relationship with God, which is the most important thing in our lives.

  23. 4.He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth.is not in him.
5.But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God protected: hereby know we that we are in him.

•• If we say we know God but behind doors we act ungodly then we are liars but if we say we know God.and keep his word in us we are in him.

  24. 3And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
4He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

Many time people say that they believe in God, yet they do their own things, go their our ways living their wicked lifestyles. The word right here tells us that that is not enough to just believe, but that we must follow His comands. If we follow His word, then we have the light in us. We must be doers and not just readers of His word.

  25. Advocate !!!! 1. MY little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Je’-sus Christ the righteous: Rom. 8 : 34 2. And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. 3. And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. 4. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. DO not sin !!!! THANK YOU JESUS !!!!
