Acts 13

1 Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.

3 And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.

4 So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.

5 And when they were at Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had also John to their minister.

6 And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Barjesus:

7 Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.

8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.

9 Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him.

10 And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

11 And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.

12 Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.

13 Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem.

14 But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.

15 And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.

16 Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience.

17 The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it.

18 And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness.

19 And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, he divided their land to them by lot.

20 And after that he gave unto them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet.

21 And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years.

22 And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave their testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.

23 Of this man’s seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:

24 When John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.

25 And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.

26 Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.

27 For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.

28 And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain.

29 And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre.

30 But God raised him from the dead:

31 And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people.

32 And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers,

33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.

34 And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David.

35 Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

36 For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:

37 But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.

38 Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:

39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

40 Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets;

41 Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.

42 And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.

43 Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.

44 And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.

45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.

46 Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.

47 For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.

48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

49 And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region.

50 But the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coasts.

51 But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium.

52 And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost.

  1. vss.47-48 For do hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.

48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed .

Thank You LORD GOD went to great lenghths to prepare the early believers in their mission for
    You and I . ( The Gentiles )
We are not to keep this Great Salvation to ourselves, but share HIS GOOD NEWS .

    • That’s correct!!! Thank you Jesus!!
      Acts 2:38-40King James Version (KJV)
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

Acts 2:38-40New Living Translation (NLT) says
38 Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39 This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away[a]—all who have been called by the Lord our God.” 40 Then Peter continued preaching for a long time, strongly urging all his listeners, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation!”

Thank you Jesus you are wonderful and I love you.

  2. Rejection

51 But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium.

A lot of people don’t like to go to out reach for fear of rejection. One thing is clear that they are not rejecting you buy JESUS . His gives us a simple but painful situation. Their rejection, their unwillingness to change, or just down right anger should never be taken personally, it is JESUS they are against. For that reason and only for that is why God tells you ok you tried hard enough now go dust your feet and let them be….

  3. 8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.

God’s work will go on, His Word will go forth…those who try to stop it will suffer the consequences.

  4. 2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.

3 And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.

Commissioned to go win souls was the result of fasting and prayer. A call to separating themselves from the known, to go to the unknown and do the work of the Lord.

We, as the body of Christ, will find it necessary in our lives at times, to separate ourselves first to fasting and prayer to receive renewed instructions and directions from the Lord, then a time of separating our lives from things that weigh us down and hold us back from fulfilling the calling of God in our lives. We must hear the call of God and act accordingly and for some that means laying aside things that weight us down and keep us focused on this life, when we must focus on eternal life and the things that matter. “Only one life so soon it will pass, only what’s done for Christ for life.”

  5. MORE Boldness

    Acts 13:46 (KJV Strong’s)
46 Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.

Bold – (Olive Tree Enhanced Strong’s Dictionary) g3955. παῤῥησιάζομαι parrhēsiazomai; middle voice from 3954; to be frank in utterance, or confident in spirit and demeanor: — be (wax) bold, (preach, speak) boldly.
    AV (9) – speak boldly 4, preach boldly 1, be bold 1, wax bold 1, boldly 1, freely 1;
to use freedom in speaking, be free spokento speak freely
to grow confident, have boldness, show assurance, assume a bold bearing

(CWSB Dictionary) To speak openly, boldly, and without constraint

Thayers – in reliance on one to take courage

How many times are we tempted to slink away when confronted? Too often we get into the rut of asking for deliverance from a situation. We pray God help me, deliver me, take me out of this, and when he doesn’t we tend to distrust him.

We can sometimes doubt God when he doesn’t answer a prayer the way we want to. Yet the purpose of prayer is to SURRENDER to him. We don’t pray because we want things, we pray to align ourselves with God and his purposes.

    Acts 4:29 (KJV Strong’s)
29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,

The root word for boldness means free and fearless confidence, cheerful courage, boldness, assurance

The disciples prayed for boldness not deliverance. They didn’t ask for escape, they asked for help to go through what God wanted them to go through.

  6. iLove to eat more Word

“They Didn’t Water Doctrine Down Back in the Days”
12 Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.

This great and amazing Gospel was at it’s purest form at the start of the first church. Unwatered down doctrine brings great power, but it also brings quick judgement.

  7. “For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.” Although they were aware of the word of God (Jesus), and heard the word of God from the men of God, they listened not. If one is a hearer and not a doer, is not one also, a condemner. Dear Jesus help me to be a hearer, and a doer. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  8. AUTHORITY AND HOLY GHOST POWER

Many are fatigued and worn out by the antics and tactics of the adversary. The LORD reveals through Paul here how to deal with annoying, deceptive antagonists. SPEAK to THEM.

First identify them, then speak the curse of the LORD on them, notice Paul spoke the blindness that the LORD used on him. (He obviously had FAITH in this powerful judgement.)

Where did Paul get the AUTHORITY?

Luke 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Mark 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

I have been asked the question several times over the years, where and when did Paul receive the Holy Ghost.

Here is evidence that he did, which also negates the thought that the Holy Ghost was only of them on the day of Pentecost.
9 Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him.

    PRAY IN THE SPIRIT!
    LOOK AT YOUR PROBLEM!
    SPEAK TO YOUR PROBLEM!

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGIve
    iReap

  9. 50 But the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coasts.

51 But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium.

52 And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost
John had a great message for the masses that day and he preached the truth to them. It appears most took it well but some rejected the word. But just as Jesus told them they shook the dust of their feet kept on preaching and some were filled with the holy ghost!

  10. 49 And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region.

The Word of The Lord brought revival then and will bring the revival today. Everybody did not accept the preaching of Paul and Barnabas just as everyone today will not accept the truth. The Word teaches us to find the fields that are white and ready to harvest.
Also we should sow the Word on all ground and see if it will produce!!
If people reject this message it is not us they reject, but God they reject. So we shake off the dust of our feet and carry the message to the next person.

  11. 10 And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

    Choose righteousness….
The Lord is true and righteous. I pray to live a holy and godlynway of the Lord it will be pleasing to Him. I pray to be faithful in little and I will availeth much. This is for everyone. What a day it will be when we all see the true righteous person which is Jesus Christ. What a glorious day that will be. HALLELUJAH!!
Lord forgive me for turning away from you…I will always be in righteousness for Your NAME Sakes.
The key here is not to follow men of the world, cause there is no righteousness in them.
I bless You Lord. Im on my way…to You Jesus at the altar if forgiveness.

  12. 8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.

9 Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him.

Because Paul was filled with the Holy Ghost, God was able to give him the vision, the spiritual eyes to see Elymas and the spirit that was within him and he was able to come against that.

When we got the Holy Spirit inside us and we allow him to direct our path and our vision, he can show us things that we won’t be able to see on our own understanding. Which makes it so important to make sure we follow the voice of God and stick close to God to make sure we don’t stray from his path

  13. Bless God. The day is coming where cities will gather to hear the word of the lord.

    Acts 13:44
    Paul Turns to the Gentiles
The next Sabbath nearly the whole city assembled to hear the word of the Lord.

  14. Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.

We must gain a boldness. To preach the gospel. If other people can be bold. Why can’t the church? It’s time to do MORE. Be MORE bold.

  15. Preach Truth

49 And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region.

50 But the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coasts.

For preaching the Word boldly, Paul and Barnabas experienced persecution but at the same time the gospel was spread. The truth that is needed to be heard is not always the truth that will be popular, but the truth must be published. Not all will hear, but for those who will, the gospel must be told. Jesus would have suffered the cross even if He knew nobody would take the salvation He offered, so we must share truth even if nobody accepts it. It is not for the resulting choice of the individual that we share the truth, it is for the love of God towards mankind.

    Romans 10:14-17
14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

  16. Sent

When you are sent by the Holy Ghost things happen… Miracles take place, healing takes place, salvation of souls takes place. But when you go on your own you make a mess and nothing takes place. We have to learn to listen to the voice of God. The voice of God will never contradict the Pastor. We will find the word of the Lord easier to hear and understand if we get the vision of the Pastor. Le tus hold his hands up and listen for the lord amen!

  17. 8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.

We must be afraid to stand against opposition. That soul you are trying to reach there is some one coming against you to prevent them to turn to the faith. We must know in whom we serve and how great God He is. We must be bold knowing that the scriptures tell us that he has given us power over the enemy. It is spiritual warfare to matter of soul winning. Pray against and command a blindness on the opposition that the Truth may shine. There is a world to reach but we must not be afraid because greater is He that is in us. We have a great sword, the word of God and we must get acquainted so well with it to know how to use the tremendous power.

  18. 49 And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region.

I believe that POFW will be the center of faith in the region. Our ministries will be know so much in this region people from all areas will want publications of our sermons, praise team music, praise in motion, step by step on running and building children’s ministries. In Jesus name!

  19. Verse 34 KJV “And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no MORE to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David.” Same verse AMP “And as to His having raised Him from among the dead, now no MORE to return to [undergo] putrefaction and dissolution [of the grave], He spoke in this way, I will fulfill and give to you the holy and sure mercy and blessings [that were promised and assured] to David.” I was reminded this weekend by my beautiful sister, Rachel, that the promises of the Lord are MINE. So sometimes we just have to tell the devil, “Fool back off of my promises” for I know that my promises are alive (not dead) and sure in the Lord.

  20. 49 And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region.

THATS RIGHT!!! We pray and believe that Fort Worth region is going to be so hungry for God that POFW will do everything to find them. POFW has a great vision that there is room for more ministries in every aspect that will help the lost like prison, homeless, church hurt, different languages, and MORE!!! Were not gonna leave room for the enemy to destroy the great destiny that God has for us or the ones yet to come 🙂 let’s put on the armor of God and keep proclaiming all the miracles yet to come for this region in Jesus Name 🙂 this weekend was just beyond a great experience of joy being able to see 150+ kids is a joy that nobody can take that away from you!!!

  21. More humility

The scripture said that those who already believed had envy toward the new believers. At first it seemed like they wanted more, but when more people came they were envious.

We need to be careful not to push away the new people that are coming because of the hope in the truth. More humility means less envy.

Lord, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear: (‭Psalms‬ ‭10‬:‭17‬ KJV)

  22. 6 Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.

salvation is for all yet the only thing you need is the fear of God. it is important to show respect and honor to God it opens the door for Him to walk into your life.
