Romans 2

1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.

2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.

3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:

11 For there is no respect of persons with God.

12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;

13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:

15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)

16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

17 Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God,

18 And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law;

19 And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,

20 An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law.

21 Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal?

22 Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?

23 Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God?

24 For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.

25 For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision.

26 Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?

27 And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfil the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law?

28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:

29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

  1. 4. Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

Your kindness leads me to repentance
Your goodness draws me to Your side
Your mercy calls me to be like You
    Your favor is my delight
Every day, I’ll awaken my praise
And pour out a song from my heart

You are good, You are good
You are good, and Your mercy is forever

  2. Romans 2:15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another ; )

A wise Christian will be careful not to engage in activities that bother his conscience.
John 8:9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last : and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
The eldest left first, readily admitting they were sinners.

  3. Listening and knowing the word of God is there is no Good and doesn’t one bit impress God.
But obeying the Word of God gets. Gods attention and makes us right in his sight.

    __

Sinning…You say its wrong but do you do it?!

  4. 13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

Hearing the word or law is not good enough! Many people go to church and hear some powerful preaching but never do anything about it.
We must be DOERS not hearers only!
At most services we attend there will be 200 to 400 ears to hear. At western day we had over 1400 ears that needed to hear the word.
We are only given 1 mouth and 2 ears and eyes. We need to spend more time listening and watching and less time
    talking!
Help me God to be A better hearer in 2015

  5. 6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

Everyone will be judged there is no getting out of it or getting around it. You could say that we will get what is coming to us. As little children we are taught what is right and what is wrong. We know better even people who don’t know the word and don’t confess Jesus know what is right and wrong. We will have to answer for out selves so we should put alot of thought into our actions

  6. 1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.

Like all of scripture, this one reigns with so much truth, I’ve seen happen a lot in my life, with myself and with other people. You need to be careful how you talk about other people and how you judge them for it could come back on you. And often times when you judge other people, it blinds you and distracts you from what the things you are doing in your own life. You can’t work and improve your own character if you’re too busy looking at other people.

  7. THE ROUGH ROAD OF DISOBEDIENCE

8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
    9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:

GOD in his infinite wisdom of Mercy and Grace has offered us the opportunity to make choices and decide how we desire to live our lives. Too often we find ourselves in situations and dealing with circumstances that are not convenient or even bearable at times.

In verse 8 we find revelation of the rough road of:

Tribulation (2347. thlipsis, thlip´-sis; pressure (literally or figuratively): — afflicted(-tion), anguish, burdened, persecution, tribulation, trouble.

    and

Anguish – 4730. stenochoria, sten-okh-o-ree´-ah; narrowness of room, i.e. (figuratively) calamity: — anguish, distress.

Most of the undue pressure in life is the result of our own contentious actions:

Contentious – likely to cause disagreement or argument: exhibiting an often perverse and wearisome tendency to quarrels and disputes

Arguing, complaining, critical, negative, unwilling all of these attitudes of the flesh lead to the ROUGH ROAD OF DISOBEDIENCE.

    GLORY, HONOR and PEACE to the EVERY ONE that works GOOD;
    Willing, Obedient, Submitted.

Choose the smooth route and LOVE GOD from a pure heart of obedience.

Titles and Heritage alone will gain us NOTHING in the Kingdom of GOD.

    iRepent
    iObey
    iPraise

  8. 3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

    5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

Just because judgment for our sin does not come as quickly as it did in the Old Testament we think we have gotten away with it or God doesn’t care, but our day of judgment will come. repentance is our only way out through Jesus Blood.

  9. 21 Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal?

22 Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?

The word teaches us that it’s the ‘little foxes that spoil the vine’-it’s those little things that we teach others or teach our children not to do, yet do them ourselves, that we must overcome! Most Christians have overcome the ‘gross’ sin in our lives (drugs, alcohol, etc), but still need to master our tongue, attitudes and brotherly love. Help me Lord to overcome self as I strive for perfection through the power of the Holy Ghost!

  10. 9 If you go against the grain, you get splinters, regardless of which neighborhood you’re from, what your parents taught you, what schools you attended. 10 But if you embrace the way God does things, there are wonderful payoffs, again without regard to where you are from or how you were brought up. MSG

We go against authority that is in our life we are going to hit the bottom. Nothing will go right oh you will think that you are going the right track, but all the while someone is following us and we are leading them down the wrong way. I want to obey and follow the ones that have authority over me, yes i have strayed from this and if we were all honest we all have. When we get out of authority it also affects our kids in ways we don’t know. Raising girls in the church and for that matter raising kids period they are watching how we as parents act. So be careful if you are living a two tone life. I thank God for his authority and for being the man of God that he is and for loving us (me) even when I (you) are unloveable.

  11. I also thank God for loving me even when I am unlovable, I also agree with Bro Tallent, how can you hear when your mouth is running like a motor, the Holy Ghost cant talk to you if you are never quiet to listen.

  12. 13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:

29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

There are many people in the nation today that say “I am a Christian”. Many churches and denominations, inclining the “non-denominational” that say they are followers of Christ, yet they don’t go beyond attending to get their names checked off but their lifestyle are way off. The one that can really judge is the One, our Lord Jesus, that knows the hearts. We must allow the word that we hear to change us and move us to action. It is explained plain and simple in the Word. Jesus said if you love me, obey my commandments.

  13. iLove to eat More Word

    “More Accountable”

Romans 2:1 “Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest:”

Alot of folks use alot of verses (like the above one) to rebuke those who preach against sin.

For example, if I write an article against homosexuallity and put it on a forum that promotes gay marriage, I can expect to be accused of being “judgemental”. I’m sure many would quote scriptures and assure me that Jesus loves everyone (in which I agree that He does love everyone). The thing is however, Paul’s main issue is not judging the sin (he just informed us in chapter 1 that sin would be judged and he named some of those sins), Paul’s main issue is that there were folks preaching against sin and yet they were doing exactly what they were preaching against.

As teachers of the Gospel, we must be “More Accountable”.
In ethics and governance, accountability is answerability, blameworthiness, liability, and the expectation of account-giving.[1] As an aspect of governance, it has been central to discussions related to problems in the public sector, nonprofit and private (corporate) worlds. In leadership roles,[2] accountability is the acknowledgment and assumption of responsibility for actions, products, decisions, and policies including the administration, governance, and implementation within the scope of the role or employment position and encompassing the obligation to report, explain and be answerable for resulting consequences.

In governance, accountability has expanded beyond the basic definition of “being called to account for one’s actions”.[3][4] It is frequently described as an account-giving relationship between individuals, e.g. “A is accountable to B when A is obliged to inform B about A’s (past or future) actions and decisions, to justify them, and to suffer punishment in the case of eventual misconduct”.[5] Accountability cannot exist without proper accounting practices; in other words, an absence of accounting means an absence of accountability.

  14. 14-16 When outsiders who have never heard of God’s law follow it more or less by instinct, they confirm its truth by their obedience. They show that God’s law is not something alien, imposed on us from without, but woven into the very fabric of our creation. There is something deep within them that echoes God’s yes and no, right and wrong. Their response to God’s yes and no will become public knowledge on the day God makes his final decision about every man and woman. The Message from God that I proclaim through Jesus Christ takes into account all these differences. MSG

  15. 17 But if you bear the name of Jew and rely upon the Law and pride yourselves in God and your relationship to Him,
18 And know and understand His will and discerningly approve the better things and have a sense of what is vital, because you are instructed by the Law; (AMP)

Do you rely on the Law and boast about the God we have???
I know I do my God is an awesome God and there is nobody like him!!! I have been taught his Law for therefore were accountable of he things we do and not do. Since I have been instructed I am accountable to do these things be a guide to those who are blind, be the light, and teach the truth. (V.18-22)Not only teach the truth but walk by it! God has given me this revelation not only for myself but to share it also! Whatever we do, say, or act is what we are teaching others also. Jesus guide my every step in you I trust!!!

  16. 4 Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin? (NLT)

We need to always remember the goodness God has shown us. Sometimes we can get so caught up in life that we forget just how good He has been to us, despite how foolish we have been. Thank you Jesus for your kindness, goodness, mercy and grace; I am often so undeserving but You are so good, all the time!

  17. 1, “THEREFORE thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.”
2, “But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.”
3, “And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?”
16, “In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.”

There is no excuse for us on the day of judgment, IF we are judging people for their sins, and we are out there sinning and doing it secretly. We may think we are hiding it from people, but we better look at the bigger picture and remember GOD SEES and KNOWS ALL THINGS. We aren’t hiding anything from God, and ALL things will be revealed on the day of judgment. We would do well to do a HEART TEST and make sure our HEARTS are right before God.

Ecclesiastes 12:14, “For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.”
St. Luke 12:2, “For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed: neither hid, that shall not be known.”

  18. 1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.
2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.
3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

Mom would say, ” The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.”
Dad would tell me, ” Boy you ain’t lived your life yet.”

Both were very blunt ways of saying what Paul is trying to explain to the church here. I have seen it many many times where people of the church look down their nose at someone because of their shortcomings, just to later fall to the same trap. If we judge not only will we be judged on that great day of judgment, to the same measure, but we will also have to answer for the blood of the souls that our haughtiness hurt and pushed away from church. I try to guard myself, and watch my family, and help them to understand this, as not only will they have to give an account for hurting others with their judgments, but I will have to answer for not correcting my family, and anyone else that comes under submission under me…

  19. Be humble and repent
    Romans 2:5
But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,

Our ways are an insult to Gods diety. We need to repent so that he can work santification in us. Without such we are storing uo judgement for our sinful ways.

  20. “Who will render to every man according to his deeds”. Paul was enlightening all that God (Jesus) sees all and hears all. One would be wise to attend to self, as God will surely address all, in due season. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  21. Each Jewish boy was circumcised 8th day after birth and so united to the O.T. covenant community whom God had given his law. But having the law was useless unless the law was kept. Paul showed that no one ever lived up to the demands of ther own conscience to say nothing of the higher demands of Gods law. Circumcision is an outward physical sign sign of the covenant community.

  22. Romans 2:29 ESV But a Jew is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter. His praise is not from man but from God.

It is important to have our hearts in line with God’s will because once we’re right on the inside, the outside of us will follow. Thank you Lord for caring about our hearts and minds first!

  23. 16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel. What’s done in the dark will come to light nothing you do God doesn’t see!

  24. 18 And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law;

The law is not just set for us to have rules. It helps to give us boundaries, show excellence in those who follow it, and help us to have a distinction or separation from those who don’t dollow the law.

I was disturbed tonight to hear someone say, “You love me more than JESUS.” Why was that disturbing? Because I know the law. The law says that we have no other gods before him. When some one/thing is more than JESUS it is a god. NO gods other than Jesus. He is jealous!

How can the people of he world know the errors of their ways of they don’t know the law? We must love them enough to speak to hem and teach them about the lord and his law so they can make. A choice to follow him and his laws.

  25. 13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

We cannot be hearers only of the word, but we must be doers of the word as well. Just like the saying “being in a garage doesn’t make you a car”, attending church doesn’t make you a christian. Taking the necessary steps of repentance, baptism in His name, and the infilling of Holy Ghost, walking a daily walk with the Lord, makes us a christian. So to be justified of the law, we must live out loud what we believe so that all will see.

  26. God’s Praise

29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

In our lives lived out in this world we will continuously feed off the praises of those around us. We search for a praise from our parents, then maybe our boss or co-workers. These kinds of praises help us to know the good we are doing among them. We understudies look for praises from our Pastor or our fellow minister. These praises keep us encouraged and eager to go again. These praises are necessary for men and woman to live together in harmony and peace. Without a gentle good job every now and then it could lead to discouragement or possibly unworthiness. Although I believe man to man praise is necessary and effective, there is nothing like a praise from my God. When God smiles on something it is unlike the praises of men that are just like you. When the creator of the universe praises his people it is an eternal gesture that cannot be superseded. My daily goal as a Christian or servant of the most high should be to gain the praises of him that I serve. When I gain the praises of God I am unstoppable. Pastor preached about being a glory junkie. The glory of God is what we experience when he is praising us. We get in his presence and we live there for just a moment even it is irreplaceable. What could happen if we lived continually in the glory of God? Another preacher said it like this ” when the praises of man meet the praises of God” we are in his glory. We can magnify that glory by being in on accord in the church. When the church is in unity and finds the praises of God the supernatural takes place.
Help us everyday Lord to get in your presence and to boast in your glory.

  27. 29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

Circumcision was an outward sign of a blood covenant with God. The practice was only done by Jews. It singled out God’s people from the rest of the world, and was a daily reminder of who they were.

Today circumcision is of the heart. The inner conscience testifies of the personal commitment, and walk with God. We can have the fleshly symbol all we want, but if the heart isn’t separated from the world, and in covenant the circumcision profits little.

A blood covenant meant if you break it your blood is required. If we break the blood covenant afforded to us by the cross then our blood will be required by him.

  28. What we do to dicipline the flesh matters, God teaches us his commandments, it is up to us to live separate lives and represent him, glorify him always and not take for granted the works of God at the end he will judge us , we are no exception.

  29. You think you can instruct the ignorant and teach children the ways of God. For you are certain that God’s law gives you complete knowledge and truth. Well then, if you teach others, why don’t you teach yourself? You tell others not to steal, but do you steal? You say it is wrong to commit adultery, but do you commit adultery? You condemn idolatry, but do you use items stolen from pagan temples? You are so proud of knowing the law, but you dishonor God by breaking it. No wonder the Scriptures say, “The Gentiles blaspheme the name of God because of you.” (‭Romans‬ ‭2‬:‭20-24‬ NLT)

It’s sad that so many of us forget that even though we have the Holy Ghost we are still sinners and it’s only by His grace that we sustain breath. God is looking at us not just to teach what is right and true but to uphold those teaching by continually studying and growing in Him. We can’t become complacent in our walk with God.

  30. In the MSG version, the caption for verses 17-29 says “Religion Can’t Save You”. In a portion of verse 29 it says “……..It’s the mark of God on your heart…….”. In the NLT verse 29 says “No, a true Jew is one whose heart is right with God. And true circumcision is not merely obeying the letter of the law; rather, it is a change of heart produced by the Spirit. And a person with a changed heart seeks praise[d] from God, not from people.

  31. This goes back to chapter one of Romans, why condemn others if we do the same thing, you have no right to judge especially if you are doing or acting in the same way as someone your talking about….how many of these things is already wrong…ummmm…judging others(only Jesus Christ can do that), being two faced, which two faced is just as bad as gossiping, if you go tell someone else look what so and so is doing OMG and then you go back and do the exact same thing you are no better than they….Let us all STOP and look around at what is clearly going on before we speak or think(your mind can be a terrible thing when it wonders) oh help us Jesus to keep our minds only on YOU.
    New Living Translation
    God’s Judgment of Sin
2 You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad, and you have no excuse! When you say they are wicked and should be punished, you are condemning yourself, for you who judge others do these very same things.

God doesn’t want us to sin, if anything He retires to make us do right showing his live and mercy and grace but we are so wicked in our ways that we can’t see his grace if it slapped us in the face.
When will we wake up and realise that God is for us he is not against us, if we would just submit ourselves to Him and only Him, more great things would come. Just let Him in.
    Vs. 4 NLT
4 Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?

WHEN WE DON’T WANT TO LISTEN BECAUSE WE ARE STUBBORN
5 But because you are stubborn and refuse to turn from your sin, you are storing up terrible punishment for yourself. For a day of anger is coming, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed. 6 He will judge everyone according to what they have done. 7 He will give eternal life to those who keep on doing good, seeking after the glory and honor and immortality that God offers. 8 But he will pour out his anger and wrath on those who live for themselves, who refuse to obey the truth and instead live lives of wickedness. 9 There will be trouble and calamity for everyone who keeps on doing what is evil—for the Jew first and also for the Gentile.[a] 10 But there will be glory and honor and peace from God for all who do good—for the Jew first and also for the Gentile. 11 For God does not show favoritism.

HELP US KNOW YOUR LAW AND ENFORCE IT INTO OUR MINDS AND HEARTS
13 For merely listening to the law doesn’t make us right with God. It is obeying the law that makes us right in his sight. 14 Even Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it. 15 They demonstrate that God’s law is written in their hearts, for their own conscience and thoughts either accuse them or tell them they are doing right. 16 And this is the message I proclaim—that the day is coming when God, through Christ Jesus, will judge everyone’s secret life.

CHANGE OUR HEARTS BY YOUR SPIRIT SO THAT WE WILL SEEK PRAISES FROM YOU GOD!!!
28 For you are not a true Jew just because you were born of Jewish parents or because you have gone through the ceremony of circumcision. 29 No, a true Jew is one whose heart is right with God. And true circumcision is not merely obeying the letter of the law; rather, it is a change of heart produced by the Spirit. And a person with a changed heart seeks praise[d] from God, not from people.

Thank you Jesus for your word and help us to make our flesh die daily and our Spirit grow stronger and stronger. I love you Jesus Christ my Savior.
