19 And the sons of his wife Hodiah the sister of Naham, the father of Keilah the Garmite, and Eshtemoa the Maachathite.

20 And the sons of Shimon were, Amnon, and Rinnah, Benhanan, and Tilon. And the sons of Ishi were, Zoheth, and Benzoheth.

21 The sons of Shelah the son of Judah were, Er the father of Lecah, and Laadah the father of Mareshah, and the families of the house of them that wrought fine linen, of the house of Ashbea,

22 And Jokim, and the men of Chozeba, and Joash, and Saraph, who had the dominion in Moab, and Jashubilehem. And these are ancient things.

23 These were the potters, and those that dwelt among plants and hedges: there they dwelt with the king for his work.

24 The sons of Simeon were, Nemuel, and Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, and Shaul:

25 Shallum his son, Mibsam his son, Mishma his son.

26 And the sons of Mishma; Hamuel his son, Zacchur his son, Shimei his son.

27 And Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters: but his brethren had not many children, neither did all their family multiply, like to the children of Judah.

28 And they dwelt at Beersheba, and Moladah, and Hazarshual,

29 And at Bilhah, and at Ezem, and at Tolad,

30 And at Bethuel, and at Hormah, and at Ziklag,

31 And at Bethmarcaboth, and Hazarsusim, and at Bethbirei, and at Shaaraim. These were their cities unto the reign of David.

32 And their villages were, Etam, and Ain, Rimmon, and Tochen, and Ashan, five cities:

33 And all their villages that were round about the same cities, unto Baal. These were their habitations, and their genealogy.

34 And Meshobab, and Jamlech, and Joshah, the son of Amaziah,

35 And Joel, and Jehu the son of Josibiah, the son of Seraiah, the son of Asiel,

36 And Elioenai, and Jaakobah, and Jeshohaiah, and Asaiah, and Adiel, and Jesimiel, and Benaiah,

37 And Ziza the son of Shiphi, the son of Allon, the son of Jedaiah, the son of Shimri, the son of Shemaiah;

38 These mentioned by their names were princes in their families: and the house of their fathers increased greatly.

39 And they went to the entrance of Gedor, even unto the east side of the valley, to seek pasture for their flocks.

40 And they found fat pasture and good, and the land was wide, and quiet, and peaceable; for they of Ham had dwelt there of old.

41 And these written by name came in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and smote their tents, and the habitations that were found there, and destroyed them utterly unto this day, and dwelt in their rooms: because there was pasture there for their flocks.

42 And some of them, even of the sons of Simeon, five hundred men, went to mount Seir, having for their captains Pelatiah, and Neariah, and Rephaiah, and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi.

43 And they smote the rest of the Amalekites that were escaped, and dwelt there unto this day.

  1. And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested. (‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭4‬:‭10‬ KJV)

The words spoken here as Jabez sought the Lord in prayer. What kind of prayers am I praying today? My spoken words is my faith in action, either for good or bad.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. (‭Proverbs‬ ‭18‬:‭21‬ KJV)

I was reading Joshua chapter 10 earlier this morning,

Then spake Joshua to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Aijalon. And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day. And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the Lord hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the Lord fought for Israel. (‭Joshua‬ ‭10‬:‭12-14‬ KJV)

The LORD is listening to what we are praying, and answers according to our faith and His will!!!

  2. 9 And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.

10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

Right here in the middle of all these children being born, one son makes a plea to God Enlarge my coast,.
This passage has become famously known as “The Prayer of Jabez”.
Enlarge my territory . A prayer that was granted. When we step out of self pity, self righteousness, self reliance and we seek for the favor of God seeking His will. He will enlarge our territory. No matter where we may walk today if we pray this prayer God will enlarge our vision. There are so many people around us hurting and just waiting for someone to help them. They are trying to find a peace that only God can give. So today Lord enlarge my territory, lead me to the soul that is seeking for you. Don’t let this day go by that we don’t touch someone for the Kingdom.
I pray this over every one who goes out today whether in Bus Ministry, Outreach,Spanish Outreach, or just about their every Saturday routine. Lord enlarge our territory!

  3. 1 Chronicles 4:10, “And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.”

Jabez called on the God of Israel, and God granted him that which he requested.

St. Matt. 21:22 says, “And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.”

When you PRAY, BELIEVE (have Faith), and ye shall RECEIVE!

  4. 9 And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.

10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

  5. Verses 9-10 MSG “Jabez was a better man than his brothers, a man of honor. His mother had named him Jabez (Oh, the pain!), saying, “A painful birth! I bore him in great pain!” Jabez prayed to the God of Israel: “Bless me, O bless me! Give me land, large tracts of land. And provide your personal protection—don’t let evil hurt me.” God gave him what he asked.” Same verses in CEV “Jabez was a man who got his name because of the pain he caused his mother during birth.[b] But he was still the most respected son in his family. 10 One day he prayed to Israel’s God, “Please bless me and give me a lot of land. Be with me so I will be safe from harm.”[c] And God did just what Jabez had asked.”

Mark 11:24 AMP “For this reason I am telling you, whatever things you ask for in prayer [in accordance with God’s will], believe [with confident trust] that you have received them, and they will be given to you.” Same verse CEV “24 Everything you ask for in prayer will be yours, if you only have faith.” Same verse NLT “I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours.”

  6. 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested. (NLT)

Let’s make this prayer personal today. Let it be so, this day, Lord!

  7. And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

First, Jabez asks God to bless him. Second, he asks God to enlarge his territory. Some may stop here but think about it a moment. With increased territory comes increased responsibility. A majority of people only have a relationship with God to see what they can get out of it with the least amount of commitment and responsibility.

God wants to bless every life. But, we must first ask God to lead us where He wants us to go. It is not important where He leads us, what is important is that when we want to reach for goals and accomplishments that we have God on our side. “Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.” Proverbs 16:3.

  8. 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

God blessed because Jabez was an honorable man.

  9. PRAYER CHANGES DESTINY

10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

The MOST important thing we do EVERYDAY is call on the GOD of Israel (JESUS). Jabez had been born into a challenging life, full of trouble and frustration. Jabez however refused to simply accept life as it was. He didn’t seek a sex change, he didn’t take drugs, smoke pot, get drunk or enter a crazy relationship. Jabez called on JESUS.

Jabez simply asked JESUS to BLESS him, GROW his capacity to LEAD others, be with him or GUIDE him and KEEP him from evil, so that he would not regret living. GOD answered his PRAYER.

We also possess this same opportunity! Today we can ask JESUS to BLESS us, to GROW our capacity to LEAD others, ask JESUS to be with us and GUIDE us at every step and ask JESUS to KEEP us from evil or “lead us not into temptation”.

Regret is a disgusting medicine. To attempt to have life outside of JESUS is the pathway to regret. What you could have done, what you could have been, the things you could have seen. The list is unending.

    Join me everyday in praying:

Lord JESUS, bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil. In JESUS name.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  10. 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

  11. 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
Such a simple but powerful request. It’s amazing to see this prayer not very long, not very deep but was honored by God. It shows me that sometimes all we have to do is simply open our mouth and ask. When we do that God is faithful to answer us.

  12. 10. And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

That Thine hand might be with me…
Without the leading and protecting hand of God, we would all be all be wandering lost and vulnerable!

  13. 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

i Guess what this vs means to me is that he ask he open his mouth and ask and for that god granted his requested

but a lot of the time we sit here question god
why is god doing this , why is god not doing that
when need to stop question god and get on our knee and open our mouth and ask
the bible say in James 4:2 ye have not because ye ask not

  14. 9 And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.

10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

Too many people blame their current situation and circumstances on their past and it hinders them form becoming what God would have them be. Not Jabez, we see by his example here and even though his mother implanted a negative seed into his live by his name, that he prayed unto the Lord and God granted him his request and blessed him indeed.

  15. 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

There must have been a reason Jabez asked God to keep him from evil. His mother says he was more honorable than his brothers, so perhaps this man saw a lot of evil doing going on. Just like today. We see a lot of evil around us but God can preserve us from it – we do not have to join in with what others are doing. I see Jabez asking God to put a large border around him to separate him from the evil others were doing, and God did just that, he enlarged his borders, was with him and blessed him.

  16. iLove to Grow in the Word

1 Chronicles 4:9-10 NLT (9) There was a man named Jabez who was more honorable than any of his brothers. His mother named him Jabez because his birth had been so painful. (10) He was the one who prayed to the God of Israel, “Oh, that You would bless me and expand my territory! Please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all trouble and pain!” And God granted him his request.

Amen. For those who speed read through the genealogies, you coulda almost nearly missed this verse. Also, you coulda nearly missed some of David’s mighty men listed in this chapter. Finally, it’s good to study the family tree often in order to always have a branch nearby to whoop the devil.

  17. 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
Hallelujah ! Thank you Jesus!! Thank you Jesus for being a prayer answering God!!

  18. 1 Chronicles 4:41 (KJV Strong’s)
41 And these written by name came in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and smote their tents, and the habitations that were found there, and destroyed them utterly unto this day, and dwelt in their rooms: because there was pasture there for their flocks.

The 12th King of Judah, Hezekiah was reigning when the Simeonites possessed their land. King Saul of the United Kingdom was told to destroy the Amalekites by the prophet Samuel. There are two more kings before the kingdom is divided. This means 13 kings after Saul the word of the Lord was fulfilled against the amalekites.

Had king Saul obeyed the Lord his people would not have had to suffer without pasture land for all that time.

We never know how a small order, command, or direction can really be a really big deal down the line.

  19. 9 And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name , saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.

Honourable- to be made heavy, burdensome, grevious

The scripture leads us to believe that Jabez’s mother had a hard labor with him. In doing so she named him “sorrow” he then lives up to his name for he was a honourable man.

His mother travails would not be waisted but she bare a man that would get the attention of God just as he got her attention. Jabez’s presence demands attention and his words demanded action.

The very thing you are having a hard time birthing in the spirit will be just as honourable when it gets here. It’s presence will demands attention and the Word that God spoke to you about it will demand action but remember Growth will be a biproduct of it.

  20. 9 And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.

10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

In listing more lineage and genealogy we see that it just goes on and on. Every name just played the hand they were dealt in life, but it all is halted because one man chose to step out in faith because he wanted more. His name meant trouble! But he refused to accept that so he cries out to God and God hears him! And you see later on in the lineage that that is exactly what happens

  21. 9 And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.

10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

What was so special about Jabez? Well we dont have much to read about him but he possed one notable quality, he was honorable…in fact more honorable than his bretheren. However we are not told that such is the reason why God answered his prayer. From God’s word we know not to pray amiss or in other words according to God’s will. So from here we can see that it is God’s will to have his hand over you, to keep you from evil, to bless you and enlarge your territory. You have not becuase you ask not… Here is a prayer that may it to be an example forever settled in His Word and in eternity… This is God’s will for your life too. My God answers prayers of blessing. Its not because who I or you maybe, such as in this case more honorable man, but because of Gods’s nature who He is and how he wants the best for us. My God answers prayer. My God blesses me. Thank You JESUS!

  22. “And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭4:9-10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Keep me from evil! Jesus help me! I need you.

  23. “And they smote the rest of the Amalekites that were escaped, and dwelt there unto this day.” The word of God (Jesus) identifies “unto this day”. They were able to accomplish what they did because God allowed it, and because they fought for it. Salvation and freedom were both purchased with blood. One that refuses to acknowledge Jesus (God) is denying oneself, and sadly often times another salvation (sowing confusion). One that refuses to acknowledge the American flag and National anthem is denying the next generation of their freedom (sowing division). Dear God, expose and remove confusion and division. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  24. “And Jabez called on the God of Israel”. There are many resources and courses available today, which are designed to help and assist. Many of which can and have helped many. Meanwhile many go further away, or sadly have no idea in where to find the true source. God open our eyes that we may see that you are the answer, and in whom we should call on, in Jesus name.

  25. 9 And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.

10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

Jabez was blessed by God and kept away from evil and God honored him with his request.

  26. 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

When you ask for mere pleasure, most of the time, it’s out of the will of God. You will always get when you pray to God what is in God’s will.

    1 Timothy 2:3-4 NIV

3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior,
4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

If you asked to be saved, he will guide you to Pentecostal preacher that will tell you the truth. This is Gods good pleasure.

  27. 9 And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.

10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

    Ecclesiastes 7:3 NLT
Sorrow is better than laughter, for sadness has a refining influence on us.

Jabez is first mentioned as being more honorable than his brethren, then it explains that his mother gave him that name because he was born with sorrow. While many of us are hopping the first train out of sorrow we can find, Ecclesiastes illuminates the hidden blessing within the dark times of sorrow; the refining properties of sorrow can do that which mirth cannot. In fact, mirth can even be said to “numb” one to their ability to exercise proper discernment whereas sorrow sharpens the senses and allows us to grow.

Jabez’ prayer is not one of sorrow-avoidance but of faith in God’s goodness as well as reverence for His sovereignty to choose how He would respond to that prayer. Jabez asks only to not be grieved by sinfulness, which is something for us all to seek. His request for God’s provision is one of hope and security without asking for “limitless prosperity” that might seem more like a substitute for heaven than anything good for the heart of man. And God granted him that which he requested. Jabez didn’t shun sorrow, he didn’t idolize prosperity, and revealed in his character why he was said to be an honorable man above his peers.

    Ecclesiastes 7:13-14 NLT
Accept the way God does things, for who can straighten what he has made crooked? Enjoy prosperity while you can, but when hard times strike, realize that both come from God. Remember that nothing is certain in this life.

  28. In this chapter there are a bunch of names called and most people would get tired of reading them all….but think of it in a different way. With reading this chapter by reading each name and getting a little information of who they are connected to or what they do, it made me think of how important people are. Now going off of that topic “each person is important” what they do is important! We all have a place and a purpose.

Now changing the mind set of this chapter and putting it towards us individually…..as I was reading those names and hearing about those families, I thought about my family and friends and all of their names and what special purposes and how important they are to God. So when getting to chapters about families and the long lists of names…..let that be a chapter of remembrance of how important our family and friends and that they each have a place and to never give up!

  29. 9 And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.

10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
    God hears our requests!

  30. 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

We need to pray to God and ask him for his hand of protection from evil thoughts, actions and additudes!!

  31. In the middle of this family tree is an anecdote that presents a profund message about one man’s choices. These parenthetical remarks include more than usual facts or figures. As a result of a very painful childbirth the mother in 1 chr 4:9 names her son Jabez which literally means sorrow or pain. Since Hebrews hold significant meaning in a person’s name, Jabez has a strike against him from the day he was born. Yet Jabez wants more than the sad heritage his family has to offer. He goes to God “I want your blessing” Jabez prays. “Nourish and grow me beyond my present situation. Direct me with your powerful hand and help me rise above my painful, depressing past.” And God did. Jabez was not complacent with the situation he was in but was willing to talk out on faith in God.

Lord you will bless me today!

  33. “And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭4:9‬ ‭KJV

Janet had a reputation because of his actions. He was honorable even though there was sorrow when she had him. The honor that people have comes because they have walked through some things. Honor isn’t just given, it’s earned.
