Proverbs 19

Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.

Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.

The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the Lord.

Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour.

A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.

Many will intreat the favour of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.

All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him.

He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.

A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.

10 Delight is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes.

11 The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.

12 The king’s wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.

13 A foolish son is the calamity of his father: and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.

14 House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the Lord.

15 Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.

16 He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.

17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.

18 Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.

19 A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.

20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.

21 There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand.

22 The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.

23 The fear of the Lord tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

24 A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.

25 Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.

26 He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.

27 Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.

28 An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.

29 Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.

  1. Verse 27 CEV “If you stop learning, you will forget what you already know.” Same verse MSG “If you quit listening, dear child, and strike off on your own, you’ll soon be out of your depth.” Same verse NLT “If you stop listening to instruction, my child, you will turn your back on knowledge.”

Proverbs 1:5 AMP “The wise will hear and increase their learning, And the person of understanding will acquire wise counsel and the skill [to steer his course wisely and lead others to the truth],”. Same verse CEV “If you are already wise, you will become even wiser. And if you are smart, you will learn to understand”.

  2. 2 Enthusiasm without knowledge is no good; haste makes mistakes. NLT

This reminded me of Ahimaaz, who convinced Joab to let him run, even though he had nothing to report. David saw that Ahimaaz had enthusiasm, but when he realized that he had no knowledge, he basically told him to get out of the way and be still.

If you want to play the reporter, you better have a story.

  3. Proverbios 19:21-22 El corazón humano genera muchos proyectos,
pero al final prevalecen los designios del Señor.
De todo hombre se espera lealtad.[e]
Más vale ser pobre que mentiroso.

A wise man restrains his anger and overlooks insults. This is to his credit
I like this vs it gives me a chance to look at myself

When you help the poor you are lending to the Lord and he pays wonderful interest on your loan
I really like this vs i like helping people in need

  5. 20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.

27 Stop listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge.

  6. ARE YOU LISTENING

20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.

VISION and Determination are necessary components for success. There are usually multiple paths to a chosen destination. I seek to be wise in my latter end of each matter, so I hear counsel and receive instruction. There is an order that I like to follow if and when possible.

    1. What does the BIBLE say about it? This is the absolute in every opportunity.
    2. What does my Pastor say about it?
    3. What does my wife say about it?
    4. What do my Elders say about it?
    5. What do my peers that have done it say about it?
    6. What do my friends say about it?
    7. What does my heart say about it?

This order is fairly consistent and may vary based on the situation and availability of each source. I typically do not vary in question 1 and 7. I do not want to attempt anything that I cannot support with the WORD of GOD and I do not want to attempt anything that my heart is unwilling to consider the counsel of others.

Lets be committed to the cause but not at the expense of wisdom. Approach each opportunity with prayer and humility. Evaluate if we are hard headed and strong/self willed to the point that we do not hear counsel and receive instruction.

  7. There are many plans in a man’s heart, nevertheless the Lord’s counsel, that will stand. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

  8. 1 Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.

Integrity is a characteristics that has no gender and is not determined by wealth. It is a characteristic that all can develop, and sets a standard for each of our lives. It becomes who we are, or we become who it is. If we say something, do it. Let our integrity be the greatest example of our christian walk. Walk the walk and talk the talk otherwise our good will be evil spoken of because of our lack of integrity.

  9. Oh, the tangled webs we weave when first we practice to deceive. Like that line? I made it up myself. Just now. Honest.

5 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.
9 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.

We know it’s wrong. We use terms like “white lie” or “fibbing” to ease our guilt. Maybe we cross our fingers behind our backs, as if to somehow suspend the rules judgement. Lying can save us from awkward situations, spare the feelings of others, preserve a relationship, enhance our social standing, keep us out of trouble and even save our lives… Or can it?

Who teaches an infant to fake cry to get attention? Is the art of deception built into who we are as humans? Mark Twain’s claimed that people are never more truthful than when acknowledging ourselves as liars. So, what are we supposed to do, how do we continue to war against urgings that are part of being a human?

God’s wants people to dwell together with each other in unity and also in a closer relationship with Him. When we lie, we break our connection to other people and violate our relationship with God. We must be truthful as a way of building our closeness with God and other people.

  10. 20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
“Without wise leadership, a nation falls; there is safety in having many advisers.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭11:14‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Without counsel you fall, but with counsel there’s hope only if you choose to LISTEN AND OBEY. The instruction or wisdom might not always be exactly what you want but if more than one of the people you go to for advice give you similar answers chances are they’re right.
iBless you in the name of the Lord Jesus

  11. 16 He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.

The lords ways are my ways. I want to follow the path and way Jesus wants to set me. I don’t want to step out of his will for a second. If we know how to do the right things in life with the help of Jesus and his commandments, for a wise man keepeth the lords commandments. Thank you Jesus!

  12. Proverbs 19
2 The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.

A,story of a young man and his wife expecting their first chikd. Life seem to be going well for the young couple. Admitting to one another their past mistakes in life they knew God was in control. Until one day a phone call came a wrong that had been committed was now being brought back into the young man’s life. After obtaining a lawyer; the lawyer looked at the young man and said just tell me u were not this age but thus and I will make this go away. The young man said “No”,
I will not lie. The consequences came, imprisonment, yet God used this young man mightily as he witnessed daily while in prison. There was heartache but God used this young man’s faithfulness and the truth that in reality set him free.
So remember truth may be painful and no matter what the consequences God
    will see u through.
In everything give God the glory!
Now Go tell the truth !
What the enemy meant to destroy with , God turns it into a blessing.
The Joy of the Lord is my Strength

  13. 20 Get all the advice and instruction you can, so you will be wise the rest of your life.
21 You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail. (NLT)

Amen and amen. Lord teach me; place people in my life who will continue to instruct me in Your ways. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in all that I seek to do!

  14. 3People ruin their lives by their own foolishness and then are angry at the LORD.

We make make choices on a daily basis. But when your choice has consequences, we want to blame God for choosing wrong. Then you begin to think God is unfair, even resent him for not answering your prayers. You allow yourself to become angry. These choices are your own fault. We have to remember everything is God’s will, and pray in that manner. God hears our prayers and will provide for you.

Luke 22:42 Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me. Yet not my will, but Yours be done.

  15. “Better to be poor and honest than to be dishonest and a fool. Enthusiasm without knowledge is no good; haste makes mistakes. People ruin their lives by their own foolishness and then are angry at the Lord. Wealth makes many “friends”; poverty drives them all away.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭19:1-4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

  16. 21 You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail.

There was a slight chuckle and crooked grin that came across my face as I read this passage. I remembered some of my own “master plans” that by the grace of God that never worked out.

Have you ever owned a pet, or worked with small children? You work so hard giving training and instructing them, yet there are times when you just look at them and question if they’ve even grasped anything you’ve said.

There was a young girl in my class who loved to climb but was terrified of heights so never knew how to get down, it was a vicious cycle. After multiple warnings to not climb on the furniture, she makes her way up on to the top, at that moment she begins to realize her mistake. What does a toddler do? She begins to cry. I help her down and again try to explain if you stop climbing, you would stop getting stuck. I didn’t even make it across the room before she began to climb onto the table.

I remember the complete disbelief that this little girl was yet again going to climb something and began to wonder how many times I have personally made God feel the same way.

How many times has He redirected me, guided me, and explained to me the dangers of the situation? Yet, at times it just takes the point of pain to cause a reaction.

Psalm 25:4-5 – “Show me your ways, LORD, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.”

Why not save yourself and the Lord some frustration and ask Him for His Way!

  17. He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
    Proverbs 19:8 KJV
    http://bible.com/1/pro.19.8.KJV

GO; get wisdom. How by knowledge and understanding. The spirit is our teacher and with that you can gain knowledge by reading and studying the word. But we do have to be careful not to let ourselves perverse the word to what we want it to say. We have to let the spirit guide us. Remember that God is the ultimate counselor: the spirit the teacher: and the word is our guide on how to live. Thank you Jesus.

Phil. 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

  18. 4 Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour.

This is so so true! I have to think of all the times I didn’t have anything and I can count on my fingers who would be there to help me if I needed anything, I have never really been the type to ask for stuff any ways, but it was amazing how many people would reach out to me when they thought I had something to give, and when I didnt have what they wanted they were gone! But God is there always, in the time of fullness, and even when I dont have nothing! He has never failed me EVER!
    iblessyouinthenameoftheLord

  19. 5 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.

If we were to stand in a room full of people and ask a show of hands of who has lied, every hand in the building would go up, because we are all human and all have lied at some point in our lives, but that does not make it okay, and it doesn’t make it any less of a sin. This is why we must repent every day and continually ask God to work in us! Many times we will even use the excuse “it’s just little white lie” to keep ourselves out of trouble, but that “little white lie” is usually followed by another and another lie and soon we are caught in a web of lies we cannot keep up with and we’re in bigger trouble now then we would have have been if we would have just told the truth to start with. So to keep yourself out of a mess, just tell the truth! The consequences may seem hard at the time but God will take notice of your honesty!

  20. iLove to Go Blog
Proverbs 19:1 NLT Better to be poor and honest than to be dishonest and a fool.
Wow, honesty in this generation is truly underrated. Most folks are dishonest because they “gain” things in return. They might gain wealth through dishonest practices, they might gain friends through dishonest flattery, they might gain temporary trust through deception…but according to the Word of God everyone who is dishonest is a fool. I have determined in my heart to let God search my heart and to lead me into all honesty rather than to be counted with the fools.

  21. Josiah: 2 Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.
8 He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
The Bible says that it is not good to be without knowledge. It also says “he that keepeth understanding shall find good.” When we have understanding our lives can be so much easier. The Bible tells us what we need to do. How to act. The word of the Lord can be our strength and foundation. A rock that we can stand on. Nomatter what this world throws at us if we are established on the word, God is on our side, this world can not prevail. So, let us GO SEEK knowledge and understanding so that we can find good! The Bible tells us to seek and we SHALL find!

  22. People ruin their lives by their own foolishness and then are angry at the Lord .
    Proverbs 19:3 NLT
It’s not the Lord that cause trouble in our life when we chose to go out and do stupidity things it not the Lord fought but it are own we a cannot be angry at God if we decide to do the worng things and ruin are life but thank God we serve a forgiving God by his blood we are clean

  23. 18 Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.

This correction is for the parent with children and for the saint and correction from God. And if we endure chastening, God deals with us as sons Heb 12:7.

  24. Proverbs 19:20, “Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.”

If we want to be wiser, in 1 year – in 5 years – in 10 years from now, we have to be willing to hear counsel and receive instruction. We have to be willing to be advised, taught, and corrected now, so that we can be wiser later.
As the saying goes, “We are never to old to learn.”

  25. “Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end. There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭19:20-21‬ ‭KJV‬‬

He that seek wisdom when he is younger will gain wisdom. Learn to fear the lord when you are young and a baby in Christ. So when you grow older you have the wisdom God with you. Your heart will not fail you. Seek counsel from God!

  26. 15 Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.

Anorexia in the spirit, do not starve yourself from God’s word. Because when you do it is those around you who see what you are becoming before you see for yourself.

  27. 19 A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.
20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
21 There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand.

Listen to the wise words of the elders in your life. #GODOSOMETHING by listening.

  28. 16 He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.

Obedience is better than sacrifice in the eyes of God, it is better to keep and obey his commandments than to offer a God a sacrifice out of disobedience.

  29. Hot-tempered people must pay the penalty. If you rescue them once, you will have to do it again.
    Proverbs 19:19 NLT

  30. 22 The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.

  31. 23 The fear of the Lord tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

    Are you in good hands?
That slogan from All State insurance company came to mind. We want to be protected for when the trouble comes, or if we could put it this way, evil comes. What’s for sure is that troubling times will come but they don’t have to be evil times. Fear the Lord and live by his statutes and he will take good care of us. Then we can rest aside that we are in good hands, in God’s hands.

  32. Proverbs 19:21 There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand.
Isaiah 46:10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from the ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure :

Psalm 33:10 The Lord bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices (plans) of the people of none effect.

  33. 8 He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.

If we truly get and use wisdom we show that we love our souls, How? because by using wisdom we keep our self out of trouble and put ourselves in positive situations. Along with wisdom comes understanding and with understanding you make the right decisions and choices.

  34. 1 Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.
2 Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.
3 The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the Lord.
4 Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour.

5 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.

6 Many will intreat the favour of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.

7 All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him.

  35. 1 Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.

This doesn’t mean that the children of God should have a welfare mentality. We are not a defeated people but walk with integrity. Foolish men build empires with perverse lips and flimsy ground. The prudent build upon the rock Jesus.

  36. 26. He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach. 27. Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge. Don’t bring shame on your parents !!!! Thank you LORD !!!!

  37. “People ruin their lives by their own foolishness and then are angry at the Lord.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭19:3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

    Don’t blame God
In the society that we live in we often hear excuses of why actions were made. If you hadn’t done this I won’t have done that. We must come to the understanding of maturity. We must accept responsibility for our own actions.

  38. 23 The fear of the Lord tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

I don’t know how people cannot fear God. It’s amazing how people just live life and expect for everything to be perfect. I am blessed to know who God is. I am blessed to know who my healer, provider,

  39. “Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭19:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Mean what you say and say what you mean

  40. God has a plan for each and ever one of us. His desire is for us to be saved and live a righteous life. Nobody is exempt from judgement seek advise and prayer before you act because you may not like the results. Be aware of your decision and be wise while you do it.

  41. God has a plan for each and ever one of us. His desire is for us to be saved and live a righteous life. Nobody is exempt from judgement seek advise and prayer before you act because you may not like the results. Be aware of your decision and be wise while you do it.

  42. Proverbs 19:3 (English Amp) The foolishness of man subverts his ways [ ruins his affairs] ; then his heart is resentful and frets against the Lord . You are the one that has to make a decision about life. God give you change after change to make a difference in your life. You can repent for your own soul. God is your only hope, Dont blame God for your foolishness. He is the one that will help you. I blessed you in the name of Jesus.

  43. 12 The king’s wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.

  44. 1 Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.

This is a reminder the integrity is always important, it takes many years to build a reputation and only a few seconds to ruin it. May God guard and guide my heart and actions so his reputation is not marred.
