Isaiah 61

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.

And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.

And strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of the alien shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers.

But ye shall be named the Priests of the Lord: men shall call you the Ministers of our God: ye shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory shall ye boast yourselves.

For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them.

For I the Lord love judgment, I hate robbery for burnt offering; and I will direct their work in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.

And their seed shall be known among the Gentiles, and their offspring among the people: all that see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed which the Lord hath blessed.

10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

11 For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

  3. 7 For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them.

    Bro David Smith preached to us “Double for your trouble” from this verse almost three years ago.

  4. Verses 10-11 CEV “I celebrate and shout because of my Lord God. His saving power and justice are the very clothes I wear. They are more beautiful than the jewelry worn by a bride or a groom. The Lord will bring about justice and praise in every nation on earth, like flowers blooming in a garden.” Like the song that we sing says:

    Shout with a voice of triumph
    Shout with a voice of praise
    Shout unto God for the victory

    Give the Lord a shout of praise
    Triumphant in battle
    We are victorious
    God is most high over all the earth
    Jesus has conquered
    Satan is defeated
    The enemy is under my feet
    Shout for the victory
    Shout if you have been set free
    Shout

  5. Isaiah 61:2 (English Amp) To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord ( the year of His favor) and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn. Matt. 11:2 ) Now when John in prison heard about the activities of Christ, He sent a message by his disciples, And Jesus replied Go and report to John what you hear and see. Go tell people the good news that Jesus can do great miracles in your life.There are signs, wonders, miracles after miracles happily now.

  6. 1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
    3 “To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.”

    Go plant a tree
    It’s not hard to spread the word, especially when you allow the spirit of God to operate the way it’s meant to.
    You never know what someone is going through. You never what trial they’re going through. You also never know when the last time that “someone” actually heard the Gospel (Good News).
    When God filled you with his Spirit he didn’t call you to just expect the hard things to be over and wait for his coming. No he called you to help bring each one of those Lost people in. To Witness, to Teach, to Preach, to spread his Love and show people that there’s more to life than what THEY think. I heard something the other day I was told, “You know what’s good about being at rock bottom, you know you have a strong starting foundation.”
    But I would say “You know what’s good about living for Jesus, that foundation will NEVER erode or crumble. Jesus is your solid foundation.”
    So take the word and sew it into the Lost. Take that seed and pray over it and pray it becomes a tree!

    iBless you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ!

  7. 10 I am overwhelmed with joy in the Lord my God! For he has dressed me with the clothing of salvation and draped me in a robe of righteousness. I am like a bridegroom dressed for his wedding or a bride with her jewels. (NLT)

    Oh hallelujah! Not only have we been wonderfully saved but verses 1-3 say we are called to share the gospel and reach the captives. They deserve the same joy, salvation, and righteousness we have because just like them, we at some point were oppressed, lost, and unworthy.

  8. GO REJOICING IN VICTORY

    10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

    A key to rejoicing in the LORD is to be IN the LORD. Many people rejoice over or about the LORD. But, there is a difference when we are IN the LORD.

    I am INvolved in what HE is doing, I am INcreased by HIS favor and Blessing, I am INrobed in HIS Righteousness. Recognizing our INclusion in the promises of GOD is great cause to and for rejoicing. As we cover ourselves IN and with the things of GOD we will no doubt be free and empowered to GO REJOICING IN VICTORY.

    Life is filled with setups and setbacks. We are privileged to choose and determine our response to each of them. When we choose to greatly rejoice in the Lord, we choose the promises of GOD over the lies of the adversary and the lust of the flesh.

    Choose GOD and GO in HIM.

  9. 1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound

    Wow, this scripture leaped off the page. “…the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings to the meek…” The issue with many of us is that we try to preach to the proud. Yep, ever try to share some Bible with a proud and arrogant person? Probably ended in a debate or an argument. The Word meek is the following Hebrew word:
    ânâv
    The second form is by intermixture with H6041; from H6031; depressed (figuratively), in mind (gentle) or circumstances (needy, especially saintly): – humble, lowly, meek, poor`. Compare H6041.

    The proud will not receive the truth of the Word of God. We must preach, but just know in advance that revelation comes from above and the Word says that God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

  10. The Robe of Righteousness
    Isaiah 61:10-11 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with jewels.
    11. For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all nations.

    Psalm 85:11 Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven.
    72:3 The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness.

    Habakuk 3:18 Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.

  11. Lord let your will be done in my life, My life has its own personal desires, but your will is what’s best for me. Annoint me lord and shod my feet with the gospel. Lord praise will forever be on my lips. Let me hear with your ears and see with your eyes. In Jesus name!

  12. 1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

  13. 3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.

    Everyday I must choose to put on the garment of Praise. It doesn’t matter what comes up that day I can choose to Praise about it instead of complain. Just like I robe myself with the whole armor of God, I robe myself with Praise. I choose Praise today!

  14. Isaiah 61:3
    “To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness: that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.”

  15. I Love To Worship The Lord
    61:10-11
    Paul uses the image of salvations clothing in Rom and Eph. Christ used it in several parables as in where the guests were dressed in special garments provided by the host . Being dressed in such garments showed the wearer to be an invited guest with a right to join the celcbration

  16. 10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

    Salvation is made possible by his atoning blood applied to our lives through the baptism of the Holy Ghost and by baptism in water in Jesus name. I’m so thankful for the blood that saved me.

    Revelation 7:9
    “After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;”

  17. To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified. J. Soliz

  18. 10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

    11 For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

  19. … that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting OF THE LORD, that he might be glorified.
    Isaiah 61:3

    The trees of the Lord are full of sap; the cedars of Lebanon, which HE HATH PLANTED;
    Psalms 104:16 KJV

    The “planting” is OF THE LORD. For all our desire, we cannot save ourselves. If truth be told, we would not even have a desire for salvation if the Lord had not planted it in our hearts and drawn us by His Spirit. Moreover, once planted, we are to be FULL of sap (not withered or dried or barely hanging on, but full of the power, strength, anointing, and Spirit of our God).

    I will greatly rejoice in the Lord , my soul shall be joyful in my God; for HE HATH CLOTHED me with the garments of salvation, HE HATH COVERED me with the robe of righteousness…
    Isaiah 61:‬10 KJV

    But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
    Isaiah 64:6 KJV

    The Word repeatedly points out that salvation and righteousness are of God. Just as no man can plant himself, or draw himself by his own spirit or will, no man can redeem himself by his own righteousness. SALVATION IS OF GOD ALONE.

    Our righteousness is as “filthy rags.” This term was used for the bloody rags of a menstruating woman–discarded blood because there was no seed planted that it might bring forth life, blood that had no power to save.

    We can rejoice in our God because HIS SPIRIT and HIS BLOOD work in us His salvation. It is of His Grace that we are saved, and it is by His power that we can share His invitation of salvation with all those that He draws to us.

  20. 11 For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

    The Lord will bring Justice, God is in control. He can do all things. Stay righteous and choose the right path honors God. Spread the good news and make God first he will bless you beyond measure.

  21. 1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

    2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

    As ministers we have a responsibility not only to preach but to comfort, not only to rebuke but encourage, not only to reprove but to edify. The weights on the ministry abound and our responsibility grows day by day as we hasten closer to God’s return but it is still the greatest privilege on earth and I’m thankful to be a part of God’s ministry.

  22. Isaiah 61
    3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.

    Trees of Righteousness
    Rooted and grounded deep in His aword. In the events of life there will be spirits of heaviness and mourning. Oh but our God on His sovereignty had a way of bringing healing. We must stay rooted and allow His presence to ever flow over us so that we can have the stability needed during these times. Yes easier said than done but I know a God that is faithful and ever loving. He is my Strength and My Breath.

  23. 10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

    Because the Lord saved me and I am where I am I rejoice and so glad. The Lord choose me even when I wasn’t even looking for Him or wanting Him! He has turned my mourning into dancing. Never thought that I would be souled out for Jesus and much less God use me to reach the Hispanic community and for that I rejoice. Even if many don’t desire Him Inknow there are many out there crying for a God that can here them.

  24. 11 For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are son in it to spring forth, so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nation’s.

  25. Jesus himself would quote this prophetic verse of scripture. He came to preach good tidings and he wants us to do the same! He has something greater to give to anyone who would choose to willingly follow after him. We were born in sin and shaped in iniquity but we don’t have to live our lives that way. Our end can be much greater than our beginning! So ‘I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness…’ Not something man could do, but something God chose to do!

    This didn’t come by accident however, God said ‘I the Lord love judgment, I hate robbery for burnt offering; and I will direct their work in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.’ He is the one that directs, his covenant is the one that saves, his truth is the word that shall prevail! We need to walk in his ways before we can truly rejoice. We cannot rob him of his glory, we cannot turn aside his judgment, we cannot go about our own ways and expect to receive his blessings. He is God and there is none else and my soul shall rejoice with him and him alone!

  26. Josiah: 10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, …
    This reminded me of the song take this whole world but give me Jesus. It also reminded me of the last verse of Psalms that says “Let everything that hath breath
    praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.” If God is for us who can stand against us? This verse just reminded me of how blessed we are to be able to breath. To have the blessings the Lord has put on us. So, let us GO let the love God SHINE THROUGH US!

  27. And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.

    5 And strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of the alien shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers.

    6 But ye shall be named the Priests of the Lord: men shall call you the Ministers of our God: ye shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory shall ye boast yourselves.

    7 For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them.

    8 For I the Lord love judgment, I hate robbery for burnt offering; and I will direct their work in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.

    9 And their seed shall be known among the Gentiles, and their offspring among the people: all that see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed which the Lord hath blessed.

    Promises are here made to the Jews returned out of captivity, which extend to all those who, through grace, are delivered out of spiritual thraldom. An unholy soul is like a city that is broken down, and has no walls, like a house in ruins; but by the power of Christ’s gospel and grace, it is fitted to be a habitation of God, through the Spirit. When, by the grace of God, we attain to holy indifference as to the affairs of this world; when, though our hands are employed about them, our hearts are not entangled with them, but preserved entire for God and his service, then the sons of the alien are our ploughmen and vine-dressers. Those whom He sets at liberty, he sets to work. His service is perfect freedom; it is the greatest honour. All believers are made, to our God, kings and priests; and always ought to conduct themselves as such. Those who have the Lord for their portion, have reason to say, that they have worthy portion, and to rejoice in it. In the fulness of heaven’s joys we shall receive more than double for all our services and sufferings. God desires truth, and therefore hates all injustice. Nor will it justify any man’s robbery to say, it was for burnt-offerings; and that robbery is most hateful which is under this pretence. Let the children of godly parents be such, that all may see the fruits of a good education; an answer to the prayers for them, in the fruit of God’s blessing.

  28. 6 But ye shall be named the Priests of the Lord: men shall call you the Ministers of our God: ye shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory shall ye boast yourselves.

    Are calling no matter or calling we are all ministers, I minister is nothing more than a servant who uses the word of God to reach people and to serve. There isn’t any person who has not been called to Ministry.

  29. v10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

    Experiencing the new birth creates a new way of viewing life.
    I will greatly rejoice in the LORD!!!!

  30. 61 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
    Because the Lord has anointed and commissioned me
    To bring good news to the humble and afflicted;
    He has sent me to bind up [the wounds of] the brokenhearted,
    To proclaim release [from confinement and condemnation] to the [physical and spiritual] captives
    And freedom to prisoners,

    The Spirit of the Lord is upon us, has anointed us (given divine ability) and commissioned us (goes with us with power and authority) to:
    1. Bring good news (to all)
    2. Bind up wounds (of wounded)
    3. Proclaim release (to captives)
    We should seek to be used by God to bring a word of salvation, healing, or deliverance everywhere we go! I love to receive a word from the Lord but even better yet is being able to share a word in due season!
    [Isa 50:4 KJV] 4 The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to [him that is] weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.

  31. 10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

    11 For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

    Praise be to God for he has redeemed and paid for my soul. He has taken away all sadness and given righteousness peace and joy in the Holy Ghost. To Him be all glory and honor and praise.

  32. 9And their seed shall be known among the Gentiles, and their offspring among the people: all that see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed which the Lord hath blessed.
    10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

  33. He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the Lord ’s favor has come, and with it, the day of God’s anger against their enemies.(Isaiah 61:2 NLT)

    There’s going to be a time when God himself gives us a encouraging message to be delivered to his children that are weeping out and praying and trying to seek help from him by telling of how He will give them favor. The anger God uses to punish Israel’s sin He is going to turn upon their enemies. God is going to turn their mourning into dancing and sorrow into joy. “For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.” (Ps 30:5).

  34. 1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

    Many are the called but few the chosen.

    Before the foundation of the earth, you chose me God. You had in mind already to fill me with your Spirit, and anoint me to preach. Even when I didn’t believe it for myself, you have sent me to proclaim you Kingdom.

    We have not received such great power, just have it. But to establish your Kingdom on earth. Because it is your Kingdom that is the good tidings, that will bind up the brokenhearted, and liberate the captives, and open the prisons to the bound.

    Let you Kingdom Come!

  35. “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭61:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    Go in the Spirit of Christ! We have that same Spirit in us today!!

    “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭10:38‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    “And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:”
    ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  36. 1The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

    When the spirit of God is upon us it is much more rewarding than going on our own accord. His spirit grants us power to preform all this scripture tells us. When we do not have the gift of the Holy Ghost we are broken-hearted, captive, and in prison. Yet, when we receive the Holy Ghost we gain power over These things

  37. 1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

    Our purpose is to show people who God is and to lead those who are willing to Him.

  38. “To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭61:3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    Such a beautiful thing to be traded he pain for praising the Lord. Whatever is causing you to be pulled down into a depression, trade it out! Get beauty for your sackcloth and ashes. Trade oil of joy for your mourning. Put on the garment of praise instead of heaviness. All these things are designed to draw glory unto God.

  39. 4 And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.

    What do Missionaries Do?
    They build the old wastes raise up the former desolations. They build the waste cities of the kingdom of God and repair the desolations of many generations not serving God. They Reach into the highways and byways of the far ends of the Earth so that men could find him. They go where others will not, sacrifice what others would not and reap what others can not. They may need much, but that is because they gave their all, all their possessions, all their toys and all they know. But wherever they go they are a blessing to all who come near. Like a cup that runneth over, they have given so much and God has given back much that it flows out to Bless those around them. Their testimony given through a medium that some would despise, but Paul was captured and died to give similar testimony and counted it but gain. For the joy their testimony brings leaves lingering memories that you will never forget and cherish forever. Carry you through the lightest and darkest days of your life. Which is why I need to pray for them. For they are labouring in a field that breaks many, facing trials that many can not even imagine or understand. There need my prayers are needed, for they labour without the help and support that we take for granted and need all the support they can get. May I not forget to keep them in my prayers or they joys of their testimony.

  40. 3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.

    When God healed the blind man in Mark 8 by putting his spit upon his eyes he asked him what he saw and “he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.” (Mark 8:24). The Lord desires that we be those trees of righteousness, and bearing good fruit. Like plants, people sometimes need some pruning. The process is painful. This can be compared to the ashes, mourning and heaviness mentioned in this verse that are the dead things the Lord has to take away so new healthy limbs may grow. They make room for the Lord to move and change them for beauty, oil of joy and praise. He makes all things new.
