Hosea 8

Set the trumpet to thy mouth. He shall come as an eagle against the house of the Lord, because they have transgressed my covenant, and trespassed against my law.

Israel shall cry unto me, My God, we know thee.

Israel hath cast off the thing that is good: the enemy shall pursue him.

They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.

Thy calf, O Samaria, hath cast thee off; mine anger is kindled against them: how long will it be ere they attain to innocency?

For from Israel was it also: the workman made it; therefore it is not God: but the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.

For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk; the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up.

Israel is swallowed up: now shall they be among the Gentiles as a vessel wherein is no pleasure.

For they are gone up to Assyria, a wild ass alone by himself: Ephraim hath hired lovers.

10 Yea, though they have hired among the nations, now will I gather them, and they shall sorrow a little for the burden of the king of princes.

11 Because Ephraim hath made many altars to sin, altars shall be unto him to sin.

12 I have written to him the great things of my law, but they were counted as a strange thing.

13 They sacrifice flesh for the sacrifices of mine offerings, and eat it; but the Lord accepteth them not; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.

14 For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.

  1. 2. Israel shall cry unto me, My God, we know thee.

Don’t wait too late to cry unto God. How can we claim to know Him, and He know us, if we only call on Him in times of distress?

    Matthew 7:23
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

  2. Israel hath cast off the thing that is good: the enemy shall pursue him.
    Hosea 8:3 KJV
Dont leave your first love for things that temporarily brings self gratification. Stay focused on His word, prayer, church attendance, worship, etc!!!

  3. Verse 11 CEV “Israel, you have built many altars where you offer sacrifices for sin. But these altars have become places for sin.” This chapter and these verses reminded me of the song “The Heart of Worship”:

I’m coming back to the heart of worship
    And it’s all about you,
    It’s all about you, Jesus
I’m sorry, Lord, FOR THE THING I’VE MADE IT
    When it’s all about you,
    It’s all about you, Jesus

Let us not forget our Maker as Psalm 100:3 AMP says “Know and fully recognize with gratitude that the Lord Himself is God; It is He who has made us, [a]not we ourselves [and we are His]. We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.”

  4. 3 They sacrifice flesh for the sacrifices of mine offerings, and eat it; but the Lord accepteth them not; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.
14 For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof

This reminds me of the scripture that talks about his people in Revelation “But I have (this) against thee, that thou didst leave thy first love.” and “And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie”
We should always be be mindful what our heart that can be so deceitful, that we can be lead astray, but on the other end, if we seek to keep our heart pure and keeping our love on Christ, then it protects our heart from being easily decieved

  5. 11 “Israel has built many altars to take away sin, but these very altars became places for sinning!
12 Even though I gave them all my laws, they act as if those laws don’t apply to them. (NLT)

Looking the part isn’t hard – you can build up a nice altar and lay some laws next to it and say, yeah I do what I’m supposed to can’t you see how nice I set myself up? When in truth you’re not really acting the part. How can we expect the people we lead to truly act the part of we don’t set a right example? Lead by example and as you draw closer to God, they will also be following to get closer to God.

  6. “I have written to him the great things of my law, but they were counted as a strange thing.”
    ‭‭Hosea‬ ‭8:12‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We must fall in love with the Word! Hide the Law in our hearts and treasure it! It will give wisdom and understanding. It will be a light to our path.

“How can a young person live a clean life? By carefully reading the map of your Word. I’m single-minded in pursuit of you; don’t let me miss the road signs you’ve posted. I’ve banked your promises in the vault of my heart so I won’t sin myself bankrupt. Be blessed, GOD; train me in your ways of wise living. I’ll transfer to my lips all the counsel that comes from your mouth; I delight far more in what you tell me about living than in gathering a pile of riches. I ponder every morsel of wisdom from you, I attentively watch how you’ve done it. I relish everything you’ve told me of life, I won’t forget a word of it.”
    ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭119:9-16‬ ‭MSG‬‬

“My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3:1-2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I wrote for them the many things of my law, but they regarded them as something foreign

Isreal knew the Word of God they knew of His mighty works they knew the laws given by God.but kept going further and further away until they could not even recognize His truths. Seeking after the things in the world dimmed their eyes deafened their ears and dulled the knowledge they once had. They went searching when they had all they needed right before them . Lord keep our eyes and heart guarded so that the choices we make does not cause us to find You. Your word foreign strange to our lives. Be careful what you go searching for. In Jesus name.

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

1 Kings 18:21 (ASV) And Elijah came near unto all the people, and said, How long go ye limping between the two sides? if Jehovah be God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

    Hosea 8:11-13 NLT
    (11) “Israel has built many altars to take away sin, but these very altars became places for sinning!
    (12) Even though I gave them all My laws, they act as if those laws don’t apply to them.
    (13) The people of Israel love their rituals of sacrifice, but to Me their sacrifices are all meaningless. I will hold My people accountable for their sins, and I will punish them. They will return to Egypt.

Wow, this is the “Once Saved, Always Saved” doctrine of the 21st Century! This is exactly the mentality of the majority of the denominational churches in the days we live in now and quite honestly it has crept into the Apostolic Movement as well. This is, believe it or not, even the origin of the parade of Mardi Gras. Folks attempt to “sin as much as they can” before their time of fasting from meat begins. Wow, insain logic, however we can see by this example that this same attitude towards religion exists today just as it did back then.

  9. THY KINGDOM COME
    REMAIN CONNECTED

1 Set the trumpet to thy mouth. He shall come as an eagle against the house of the Lord, because they have transgressed my covenant, and trespassed against my law.
2 Israel shall cry unto me, My God, we know thee.
3 Israel hath cast off the thing that is good: the enemy shall pursue him.

As we see and feel the end of time as we know it closing in, we must heed the the warnings and hear the instruction of the LORD. Israel had established idolatry in their hearts and lives and turned away from their GOD.

They lifestyle of attitude and action had embraced the sinful and rejected the holy. They violated the laws of GOD, broken covenants with their GOD. However in time of need, they would cry unto the LORD of their fathers relationship with him. Now, because they refused to REMAIN CONNECTED to the King and HIS Kingdom, the enemy shall pursue. Leaving Israel all alone and doing their thing, unteachable, unapproachable, helpless and wild.

7 For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk; the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up.
8 Israel is swallowed up: now shall they be among the Gentiles as a vessel wherein is no pleasure.
9 For they are gone up to Assyria, a wild ass alone by himself: Ephraim hath hired lovers.

They sowed discord and disunity and now it has left them helpless and hopeless, all alone as a donkey that cannot be approached or led, all alone and disconnected.

YES there are expectations, rules and laws in The Kingdom, but it is better than being a wild, unapproachable, lonely animal.

REMAIN CONNECTED to JESUS and HIS Kingdom.

  10. 13 They sacrifice flesh for the sacrifices of mine offerings, and eat it; but the Lord accepteth them not; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.

A unacceptable sacrifice is one that is not out of true repentance. If ones heart and mind is to repent for the moment and then later return to the filth you repented from This is not true biblical repentance.

We cannot have the mindset of “just do it and ask for forgiveness later” Israel new better. This is a nation that has always known God practiced His ways and testified of His goodness to their children and others.

God wants to blot out their sins but they continually go back to a sinful life. There are many people around us that are living in this same way. We must pray and seeek God that He may help them be so impacted by His Word that the desire to sin is removed from their lives.

  11. And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days. And I Daniel fainted, and was sick certain days; afterward I rose up, and did the king’s business; and I was astonished at the vision, but none understood it.
    Daniel 8:26‭-‬27 KJV

The word of the Lord is a heavyweight I carry a message in my heart for. 3 days and it drain me felt like fainting imagine a vision for a whole city That’s Heavy.

  12. “This calf you worship, O Israel, was crafted by your own hands! It is not God! Therefore, it must be smashed to bits.”
    ‭‭Hosea‬ ‭8:6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

If this don’t make you ask yourself what you’re worshipping than I don’t know what will. Remember it’s his will not ours.
This also make me think of how man will take and twist scripture too. Crafted by your own hands! It’s not God!
Careful what you read or what you listen to, the adversary will do anything to gt you to fail

  13. 11 Because Ephraim hath made many altars to sin, altars shall be unto him to sin.

It’s hard to imagine someone building an altar to sin; a dedicated place to sin. A place to sacrifice and offerings. An altar always represented a place of consecration. How could they build an altar to sin? Some today might proclaim; “I would never” but we need to be careful. If we truly examine ourselves and are honest with ourselves we might find an altar to sin.

    What, how?

Every human heart has an invisible altar where the war between the flesh and the spirit rages. When we surrender areas of our lives to God, we are in effect laying that area on the altar before Him. In the same manner if there is something in our lives we cannot lay on the altar of God, we are laying it on the altar of sin. A sin is any thought or action that falls short of God’s will. God is perfect, and anything we do that falls short of His perfection is sin.

How does falling short become an altar? It is when we dedicate a place in our lives that is off-limits to God. Maybe it is our money, time, family, hobbies, work or our pride, our selfishness, lust or unbelief. Just because we are prideful, selfish, lacking in faith or “fill in the blank” we have not built an altar to that sin. Rather, it is when we dedicate a portion of our lives to this sin that we now have an altar to sin.

  14. 14 Israel has forgotten its Maker and built great palaces,
and Judah has fortified its cities.
Therefore, I will send down fire on their cities
and will burn up their fortresses.”

As a true APPLEstolic, I have had many iPhones in my life. Although, there was one time when I decided to jailbreak the phone. Long story short the phone ended up crashing and left me having to purchase a new one.

    What is “JAILBREAKING”?
To jailbreak your iPhone is to free it from the “limitations” imposed on it by its manufacturer and carrier. After a jailbreak, the device can do things it previously couldn’t, such as install unofficial apps and modify settings and areas of the phone that were previously restricted.

When jailbreaking your phone, you are creating the device to forget its maker. Causing it to do things that it was never created to do.

When you forget your maker there are consequences.

For starters, once you jailbreak your phone, you’re entirely on your own since you may void the warranty you have with your carrier. This means that if something horrible happens to your phone, you can’t rely on AT&T, Verizon, or Apple to fix them. Many users report an unstable or even completely disabled phone after they enable the jailbreak. Your slick smartphone could end up as nothing more than a very expensive paperweight.

Genesis 1:26 – And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

We are created after Him. Not modifying our convections to benefit us. It’s upsetting to so many created for so much, for them to forget their Maker.

We are created to be VICTORIOUS not Jailbroken.

  15. 3 Israel hath cast off the thing that is good: the enemy shall pursue him.

When we step out of the covering of the Lord, we open up ourselves and our family to the attacks of the enemies. Covering is important. As a child we are covered by our father for spiritual guidance, and an adult those who are married are covered by their spouse. For those single they are covered by their Pastor, and ultimately all who are true believers are covered by the Lord.

These coverings are for our protection, they keep the enemy at bay to a certain degree. When we openly step out of our “covering, protection” we are opening ourselves up to be targets for the enemy.

In this day and hour we must stay close to our covering. Don’t let anything come between us/them. Whatever we need to do to keep the favor of God in our lives, that is what we must purpose to do.

  16. 2 Israel shall cry unto me, My God, we know thee.
Do wait for the hard time to cry out to him but do it in the good times do you can’t say he’s my GOD only in the bad time and go back worship idol
    He good all the time

  17. Hosea 8:12, “I have written to him the great things of my law, but they were counted as a strange thing.”

Don’t allow the Word of God to become a “strange thing” to you. Read It, Study It, and Hide It in your heart everyday.

  18. 14 For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.

You can run and be rebellious for a time but you can’t hide from THE ALMIGHTY!!!

  19. For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind…
    Hosea 8:7 KJV

This is especially true in the home. In the previous chapter, we saw that fathers, who tried to serve God and idols both, produced “strange children,” who knew not God at all. I’ve said it before, but it’s worth repeating: What we parents allow in moderation, our children will do in excess.

Children are adept at learning what we did not mean to teach. Parents must, therefore, beware of how they speak of their own authority figures in front of their families: their bosses, spouses, pastors, police, etc. Likewise, parents must especially beware of how they respond to their child’s correction by another authority figure: their teacher, Sunday School teacher, pastor, principal, the estranged spouse, the new step-parent, or any adult in their life. ANY TIME a parent undermines ANY AUTHORITY FIGURE in the presence of their child, they have laid the groundwork to completely obliterate their own authority in the child’s life as well as the authority of God. If you use situational ethics even once for your own benefit or for the child’s benefit, they will learn to use it in every situation as they see fit.

I’ve seen many distraught parents come to their pastors, their child’s schools, or to the psychologist’s office begging for help with the unruly child that they can no longer do anything with. “Johnny, used to be such a good boy,” they cry. “I don’t know what happened, but now he won’t listen to a thing I say!” Almost without fail, these are the same parents who just a few years back switched their child from one classroom to another because the former teacher “was an idiot,” the same parents who fought with and disrespected each other in front of their child, or the same parents who had a habit of having “preacher stew” at the dinner table. They had sown the wind at home and were now reaping the whirlwind in their child’s life. They practiced selective submission, but now their child had no concept of submission at all.

It is very difficult for a person to become a good disciple of Christ as an adult, who was not taught respect for authority and the value of submission as a child. You cannot afford to sow any disrespect into your child’s life. Even if you disagree with the other person’s stance, you always treat them with respect for their office and you uphold the authority of that office in your child’s life. The only time one is given permission in the Bible to disobey authority is when obeying would cause that person to sin; thus, when disobeying one authority is submitting to the Highest Authority.

  20. “Even though I gave them all my laws, they act as if those laws don’t apply to them.”
    ‭‭Hosea‬ ‭8:12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

It’s easy to listen to a sermon and think of all the people we believe should be listening, or to read the word of God and think of those who should be doing what the passage says. This is what the Israelites did, they applied the laws of God to others, but not to themselves. This is just yet another way to avoid the will of God. Instead of trying to figure out who the sermon or the word of God applies to, we need to search ourselves and apply it to our own lives.

  21. ““Israel has built many altars to take away sin, but these very altars became places for sinning! Even though I gave them all my laws, they act as if those laws don’t apply to them. The people love to offer sacrifices to me, feasting on the meat, but I do not accept their sacrifices. I will hold my people accountable for their sins, and I will punish them. They will return to Egypt. Israel has forgotten its Maker and built great palaces, and Judah has fortified its cities. Therefore, I will send down fire on their cities and will burn up their fortresses.””
    ‭‭Hosea‬ ‭8:11-14‬ ‭NLT‬‬

  22. “They have planted the wind and will harvest the whirlwind. The stalks of grain wither and produce nothing to eat. And even if there is any grain, foreigners will eat it.
    Hosea 8:7 NLT
    https://bible.com/bible/116/hos.8.7.NLT

The bible talks about you reap what you sow. We must be careful what it is that we sow because thw Lord is always watching and we have a choice of what things we sow. When can sow blessings and good things and we reap thise things or we can sow curses and evil things and reap those in return. Its up to us.

  23. 3 Israel hath cast off the thing that is good: the enemy shall pursue him.

This verse is interesting. For it shows a princple here. Once the thing(s) that are good are cast off, the emeny pursues. That word pursue is usually used after the emeny has been routed from the field, when they lost the battle. So if I cast off the things which are good; then I have lost. I have no protection and no strength. It would be easy from him to win. But if I hold to that which is good, the enemy has no hope because they are no longer fighting me but God. May I hold and cling to that which is good and never cast that which is Good off.

  24. 14 For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.

As a result of Israel forgetting its maker and turning its back on God today they find themselves still blinded and confused about the truth. The veil has been put upon their faces so that they dont understand the messiah. God is willing to reveal himself to those who are open to receiving Him. lets open our hearts to God and what he wants us to be.

  25. 14 Israel has forgotten their Maker
    and built palaces;
    Judah has fortified many towns.
But I will send fire on their cities
    that will consume their fortresses.”

We must never forget who the creator and Maker of everything is! His Name Is Jesus! He is the everlasting Father!!! He is the true and loving God!! Just becauseHe has blessed us doesn’t mean we forget who He is!! We must always give Him the glory and honor in everything we do! Jesus is alive and I shall never forget you Lord!!! You are my everything!

  26. Scripture clearly declares that God shall not be mocked, that whatsoever we sow is what we’re going to reap. This has an obvious physical analogy but it applies to every aspect of our life! We cannot reap the spiritual blessings that we’re too complacent to take the time to sow ourselves. It is not that we can bring about the increase, but it is an expectation that we exhibit our desire in doing our part. Although we cannot control the measure of the increase, we have been given the opportunity to choose what we’ll receive!

We love to see this in the case of the blessings of God, but the same applies to those seeds sown to carnality. This familiar passage is one such example: ‘For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind’ They weren’t looking for the storm, they weren’t looking for judgment, they weren’t looking for the struggles they heaped upon themselves, but they were reaping exactly what they had sown. God even allowed them to reap it in great measure… they couldn’t control the increase but the choice in what was sown was theirs to make.

The Bible assures that in due season we will always reap… if we faint not. We just need to be faithful and take heed to what we sow. God will not be mocked by blessing that which we have cursed, nor will he do his part until we have done ours… but there is a great principle here! We can heap spiritual blessings unto ourselves, we can receive those same blessings for the harvest in which we labor, we can truly bear the spiritual fruit of God in our lives, and it’s all contingent on what we choose to plant! Let us sow with eternity in mind! Let us labor in the same! Let God pour out the blessings he truly desires to give unto his people!

  27. Verse 5-6
God’s anger burned against His people. The. “Calf of Samaria “, in all likehood, was situated and housed in the royal shrine at bethel. As a symbol of Israel’s embracing for hidden cults, these calves had been fashioned by men to take the place of Yahweh and were an abomination before the Lord. ((1 Kin 12:28).
Though the people had rationalized that they were honoring God, their worship at this shrine was rejected by Him.

Is our worship rejected by God…
For honoring others things or idols before Him?

  28. 12 I have written to him the great things of my law, but they were counted as a strange thing.
13 They sacrifice flesh for the sacrifices of mine offerings, and eat it; but the Lord accepteth them not; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.

  29. 13 They sacrifice flesh for the sacrifices of mine offerings, and eat it; but the Lord accepteth them not; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.

14 For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.

  30. 1 Set the trumpet to thy mouth. He shall come as an eagle against the house of the Lord, because they have transgressed my covenant, and trespassed against my law.

The Lord will be right there to the sound of your cry. Our voice is heard by the king of kings, and he will provide for us when in trouble. I will give Jesus the praise in trial and triumph. No matter what weapon is…. I win. If I don’t doubt he will bring me out. Thank You Jesus!

  31. Hosea 8:1-3 Blow the trumpet! Sound the alarm! Vultures are circling over God’s people Who have broken my covenant and defied mg revelation. Predictably, Israel cries out, My God! We know you! But they don’t act like it. Israel will have nothing to do with what’s good, and now the enemy is after them.

Isaiah 58:1 Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and show my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.

  32. When you make a move without God, things don’t end so we’ll. This is why it’s important to pray first before making big decisions. If we would listen closely, God will tell us exactly what to do.

  33. Set the trumpet to thy mouth. He shall come as an eagle against the house of the Lord, because they have transgressed my covenant, and trespassed against my law.

2 Israel shall cry unto me, My God, we know thee.

3 Israel hath cast off the thing that is good: the enemy shall pursue him.

4 They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.

5 Thy calf, O Samaria, hath cast thee off; mine anger is kindled against them: how long will it be ere they attain to innocency?

6 For from Israel was it also: the workman made it; therefore it is not God: but the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.

When Israel was hard pressed, they would claim protection from God, but this would be disregarded. What stead will it stand in to say, My God, I know thee, if we cannot say, My God, I love thee, serve thee, and cleave to thee only?

  34. 4 They have set up kings, BUT NOT BY ME: they have made princes, and I KNEW IT NOT: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.

The kingdom of God must be built by the King. He sets men in places of authority that He deems fit. Those whom He has called, prepared and found faithful. [Psa 127:1 KJV] 1 [[A Song of degrees for Solomon.]] Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh [but] in vain.

  35. They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.

  36. I have written to him the great things of my law, but they were counted as a strange thing.
    Hosea 8:12 KJV

Upholding the laws of God are considered a strange thing in this day. But, thankfully those who uphold what He has called His people to are already told that we are precious, we are a royal priesthood, a peculiar people. Hallelujah!

  37. The people have appointed kings without my consent, and princes without my approval. By making idols for themselves from their silver and gold, they have brought about their own destruction.
    Hosea 8:4 NLT

God does not play when it comes to idolatry. Idol worship is sure to bring about distraction since all idols will be cast down and crushed.

  38. 11 “Israel has built many altars to take away sin, but these very altars became places for sinning!
12 Even though I gave them all my laws, they act as if those laws don’t apply to them. (NLT)

Standards can be set, then put down, then people wonder why God gets upset.

  39. Israel, I created you, but you forgot me. You and Judah built palaces and many strong cities. Now I will send fire to destroy your towns and fortresses.(Hosea 8:14 CEV)

In this verse God is speaking to his people of Israel, saying to them that God himself created them, but Israel acts like they forgot that there God has created them. God is saying to Israel and Judah that they have built palaces and many strong cities. God is now going to send fire to destroy and punish Israel’s and Judah’ s towns and fortresses.

  40. 14Israel has forgotten its Maker and built great palaces.

It’s easy to forget about our creator when things are going great. We only remember our creator during times of hardships. We must remember our creator at all times through prayer.
